Stratosphere II (SCH-I415) Teardown/Analysis - Hardware Hacking General

So, there's no Strat II forum, so I hope this is the right place. For those interested, I did a teardown and analysis of the chips on the Strat II mainboard.
jdshewey.blogspot.com/2013/09/stratosphere-ii-sch-i415-teardown.html
If anyone has some tips on getting a USB jig to work with this thing or UnBrickable mod, I would be much obliged. Otherwise, it's a new board for me

Teardowns are good, for you, and for me, and for the world!

Just wanted to say thanks for the tear down and corresponding link! As you know, there is VERY little development going on for our device and I'd love to hear anything else you may have to contribute on the subject, including if and how you may have managed to unbrick. Good luck!

Well, I'm not unbricked yet. I did find this thread the other day:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856327
Since we know the CPU on the Strat II is the MSM8960, this becomes VERY useful. I ordered a replacement main board the other day, so once it arrives I am going to run dmesg on it to find out if the USB controller supports the Jig. If so, it probably means we have the ICS bootloader (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402286). We'll find out when it gets here!

Unroot?
Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to unroot. I rooted with system.img.ext4, but now lost ability for wifi and bluetooth. In addition, I tried uninstalling something (system ui or something like that) and now lost the status (notification) bar at the top.
Is there a way to get it back to original image/rom? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi all. I remember some details on here about how to repair the stylus issue by taking the handsset apart. Can anyone find the thread? I'm hopeless at searching the forum.
I need to fix the stylus and also the headphone socket, so some guidance would be great.
-Mike
I don't know if this will help but this thread speaks on taking it apart...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288199
He's right, I remember seeing a really good post with pics showing exactly how to fix it. Was a couple of months back that I saw it, and it may have been a link to another site, I cannot remember, but I am buggered if I can find it now!!!
Oh dear. This is not how I pictured the component to look at all.
At least I saw it in the manual before taking it apart myself and voiding warranty. Thanks guys.
I'd better try and get it done under warranty but its doubtful

Is it possible to replace the USB port on the bottom of a Titan/Mogul?

My plug broke, the little plastic piece that separates the pins finally gave out and not knowing I plugged in my USB cable and bent the pins. Now my phone doesnt work. It boots up but beyond getting to the Today screen is un-usable.
Can I open it up and just replace the port? (any tips on where to buy the part, I have the tools already Im sure and am willing to solder really really really small connectors. )
Or am I stuck buying a new phone?
Thanks in advance.
yes you are in luck, i am currently developing a program that will do exactly that and much more, just give me a few decades

Hey bud..
Sorry to hear that issue , as a Sprint Store & Repair Tech Mgr I would leave it to a tech to get workin on it.. If you want to you can sauder it and try to fix the pins but you run he risk of uniting circuitry when you put back together..which will completely kill your phone.. Suggestion: Repair Center or Insurance.. last option uprgade or purchase a new phone..
this is definitly and absolutly the wrong thread man. you are asking a hardware question of a specific phone on a software developers side ?!
so please accept the rules, because some people here have enought of junior posts like this. Read thread one ! although i wouln'd event post it there.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!
Can you ball park the cost of such a repair? I dont mind paying, but if its close to the same cost of picking up a used phone on ebay (~200-250) I'd rather just get a new phone.
Thanks!

That is the part you are looking for right? The little USB female portion of the phone?
It's kinda expensive and risky, good luck with your repair, I hope this helps!

That is the part indeed, and you've just answered my lingering question! lol it would be cheaper for me to get a used one off ebay. If that part costs 50 bucks and a service tech would take at least 1 hour to fix it I'd be looking at a little less than just buying another. I appreciate all the help with this.

Reviving an old HTC

Well, I'm about to buy a HTC HD2 (the t-mobile version) to repair it, (like a hobby thing), anyway, the phone seems to have the LCD broken, the digitizer seems ok (but as far as I know they aren't expensives, like U$S 15), So here are the questions:
I want to buy the LCD replacement, but I'm not sure which one (I know I have to buy the T-mobile version) but some seems to require soldering a connector, and others don't, also do I need special tools for opening the cellphone? Is there any guide on the internet that you could recommend me? and how much should I paid for the Lcd? any other advice? Thanks!
edit: I forgot the [Q] on the title.. can't edit it, sry I'm new
you can probably open it without using special tools, altough you will need T9 screw drive if im correct, here's a video of official assembly/disassembly video leaked by HTC. pocketnow[dot]com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
LCD and digitizer is glued together, theres a video there showing how to take it apart i think.
Good Luck!

Well, thanks for the warm welcome! and about the price to pay for the screen + digitalizer? 80 U$S is alright? (if, it can be told) and thanks again for the info, in a few months I'll post some before and after screens
Oh, and by the way, I don't have a T-Mobile Sim card, Will I be able to unlock the phone? thanks.

One-click Unbrick

Don't know if this is old news, but got it from my tech news app. It says it's for the Captivate but will work on any device that uses Odin. So it should work for the Vibrant. http://www.talkandroid.com/45252-one-click-unbrick-for-samsung-captivate-let-the-flashing-commence/
Great find. Hopefully this really works for us.

You didn't steal my thunder at all. I was amazed at how this shot out across the entire internet. 700+ downloads since 3july11. it just shot out of nowhere and on every Android website out there. I posted in the Captivate dev section... I wouldn't want to create multiple threads, also I wouldn't want to put it in the "general" section as it's specific to Samsung devices.
OneClick unbrick is "successful" but still have Black Screen
I have spent countless hours over the last three days trying to unbrick my Samsung Vibrant (I think the reason that it bricked that few days ago I rooted it, added Voodoo, then tried upgrading to Froyo; I think that I should have first removed Voodoo before upgrading to Froyo?).
In any case, after reading through many posts, I have tried two methods to debrick the device, both of which report "success", but NEITHER of them has actually fixed the problem: after the phone boots up and the samsung "S" sign appears for a minute, then my screen remains black, except for the lights which are on at the bottom of the phone.
Specifically, method #1 that I've tried is using Odin3 in order to flash a .pit file (i've tried s1_odin_20100512 as well as s1_odin_20100803 and s1_odin_20100513) along with the PDA file (T959UVJFD).
Method #2 that I've tried is using OneClick Debrick.
Both of these report success. But my phone is still stuck with the black screen!
Can anyone please help?? I am close to giving up and buying an iphone.
Do a search for flashing Eugene's froyo that does not brick. There should be a post with a walk through explaining how to recover from a bad flash when voodoo wasn't disabled.

Galaxy Note FAQ

Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of compiling a Galaxy note FAQ, to hopefully help avoid thread clutter through repeated questions.
I'll be putting it here:
http://lishutterbug.com/note
It will take me a while to get all the information I can find compiled up, but you can keep an eye on the page as I update it through the coming days.
Any suggestions/comments are welcome.
If I make any mistakes, or if you have any information to add that isn't in this forum (I plan on grinding through every thread) then please let me know!
Thanks!
- Frank
Great idea and a nice start.
Thanks, well done.

Went through the FAQ, really great!
One thing is wrong though. Opera doesn't have any Night Mode.
There used to be a hacked/modified/modded version with night mode but it's an old version, and download links are broken.
BUT, I found this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281738
you should reference it, it's working, i tested it with Mozilla + Proxy plugin.
This way I have Stock browser with stock experience working perfect, and mozilla firefox for battery saving browsing.
Bookmarked. Thank you!

Right - I'll have to correct that.
There's no night mode, but there is a way to force it to use white on black.

I'm adding to the FAQ on a daily basis.
Just added a bunch of service menus, some of which show some interesting stuff.

BTW, I was forced to help a friend get gmail widget on his Galaxy S II, and I realized a few things google did in Gmail 2.3.5 to prevent external apps from accessing gmail data, Hence, no widget without any hacking.
Eventually I came across a post which I don't remember where it is, which explained how to decompile Gmail.apk with apk manager, change some lines in the manifest xml, recompile, install and bam, Email Widget started working.
This could prove very useful on a large screen such as the note's.
On the 5th of dec, i get my own note, i'll be doing it and youtubing/documenting it.
Wanna add it to the FAQ?
If u can provide a back to top link to the table of content every end of the ans will be good
You write that you can use a SGS2 bootloader to reset counter using the jig. I did that with xxkka ROM and now my brand new Galaxy Note is bricked.
Thanks a lot!
Edit: It wasn't bricked after all! That bad flash only killed the screen! Got it flashed again with the orig rom without being able to see what I was doing! Now the screen is working again!

I have been reluctant to add mods/hacks to the FAQ for this very reason.
I only add stuff if there are several 'thanks, that worked for me' posts after it.
The problem with this sort of thing is that there is no guarantee that methods will continue to work with future updates. So it's inherently risky.
Perhaps I should just post links to the posts containing methods to do stuff.
