S4 SD Card makes phone reboot ! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi everyone,
First post here, but I have been reading many threads for the past months and I thank everyone for their great help. I have a problem that I can't fix on my own. I have a Team 64GB MicroSDXC Flash Card Model. I use tunesync to synchronize all my itunes music. I have all my titanium backups on my sd card and a few photos. i Have 26.75 GB available but my phone cannot write more on the SD without Freezing and rebooting constantly... It is rooted but I have a stock ROM, and my SD card is format exfat.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a Team 32GB card with 27GB of music on it and it's formatted as FAT32 and have had zero problems. If you can, try that format and see if it helps.

Will try

Sorry it didn't work.

I have been using 32GB micro SD card in my galaxy S4 with 0 problem so far. Then I bought a Samsung 64 GB micro SD card and did format it to fat32. It stopped working after one day. I removed the old partition and format it again, only 15 out of 64 GM became available. I had a similar problem with another 64 GB micro SD card a month ago.
My personal feeling is that android 4.2.2 does not like 64 GB card regardless of the format type.......
I will continue to use my 32 GB card until getting a new phone with 32 GB internal storage.

Thank you for your answer. Did you try format your Samsung SD to EXFAT? I feel like my Micro SD is fried and is on its last run being write protected. I requested an RMA from Team Group.

How to format 64gb micro sd card to Fat32 to work on SGS3

Hi guys,
I faced a problem with my 64gb. Sandisk micro SD and I solved the issue and I thought about posting the solution here that might help some of you.
so... the issue I faced is how to get TWRP recovery or CWM to mount my Ex sd card.
basically the problem is that the card is formatted in exfat or NTFS and in both ways it won't be recognized by TWRP and the only way to formate it in fat32 is by only one software because windows can not format more than 32gb in Fat32.
and here is how:
first: download EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition from this link http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html?tag=mncol%3bpop&cdlPid=10982635
Second : Now you can see a list of all of your hard drives. Note the one highlighted in blue on the grid. This is my 64GB MicroSDXC card in my USB Card Reader. Obviously the location of your card in the list may differ dependant on the number of drives in your computer
You’ll need to right-click on the drive in the list representing your 64GB MicroSDXC card and click “Format partition”
Third : You need to select FAT32 for the File System, and 32KB for Cluster Size.
EaseUS doesn’t immediately apply the changes you specify. Instead, it queues them up so that you can review and revise them before you commit to having the program affect those changes. then we need to press the Apply button.
that's it ... now you can enjoy your 64gb MicroSd and you can mount it in TWRP or CWM recovery .
your welcome
It has to be in general section.

As you guys may be aware, the latest software update (4.1.2) does solve ANY exFAT issue

I've tried this method, my card became 32GB
Then I put it into my Galaxy Note, it saw it also as 32GB, then I formatted the card with Gnote, then it became 64GB again
I was planning to create two partitions with minitools formatting tool, one was supoosed to be 16 GB FAT32 and the remaning part would be 48GB NTFS, and I was planning to use, Paragon NTFS to mount that NTFS partition on GNOTE.
But because after formatting on PC it became 32 GB I couldn't do that.
Any suggestions ?
thanks so much for this. I just bought a new 64 gb card for my phone and it "corrupted" on me twice. I plugged it in to my comp and it was exFat. Followed the directions here and formatted to fat32. Now I have to copy my files again. I hope this works. Oh and according to my phone, there is no update 4.1.2 for it. I am on 4.0.4 and it cannot find any updates so that doesnt really work for me.
THANK YOU!!
I had been trying to do thiis for 4 hours when i saw ur post! Thanks sooo much..at first i got an error while formatting, but then i quit all other applications as recommended by the software and it woeked perfectly on my HTC Sensation. Thank You Soooo much:laugh::good:
I was looking to format my card to Fat32 so I can use a Paranoid Android Rom. What happens when I want to flash another ROM and the new ROM is a Tochwiz Rom... Will I need to unformat the card or reverse it someway? I'm a newbie to this stuff.

No. Touchwizz roms and aokp/cm10 roms can both read fat32 sd cards. Because exfat is licenced from Microsoft AOKP can't incorporate the drivers needed to get exfat formatted card to work.
Short story is both roms can read/write to fat32 formatted sd cards. Only Touchwizz roms can read/write to exfat formatted cards. Unless you copy a lot of single files over 4GB in size stick with fat32 formatting.

Did you ever find out how to revert back to 64 GB. I am exactly in a similar situation with a 64 GB converted to 32 GB and do not know what to do?
Edit: I have used guiformat program also.

You can still use your card normally. I've done the inverse way (Touchwiz to AOKP) and works too.
The point is: Touchwiz based ROMs have support to FAT32 and exFAT. AOKP ones have support only to FAT32.

That's another point OP have forgotten. Your card reader must support microSDXC cards. Most readers support only microSDHC and these are maximum 32Gb storage. microSDXC has elevated this limit to 2TB. I had to buy myself a new card reader due to that incompatibility.
There's a fragment in Wikipedia which explains this situation:
SDXC cards are pre-formatted with Microsoft's proprietary and patented exFAT file system, which the host device might not support. Since Microsoft does not publish the specifications of exFAT and its use requires a non-free license, many alternative or older operating systems do not support exFAT for technical or legal reasons. The use of exFAT on some SDXC cards may render SDXC unsuitable as a universal exchange medium, as an SDXC card that uses exFAT would not be usable in all host devices. Since the FAT32 file system supports volumes up to the SDXC's maximum theoretical capacity of 2 TB as well, a user could reformat an SDXC card to use FAT32 for greater portability between computers (see below). FAT32-formatted SDXC cards can be used in a host device built for SDHC if the host device can handle 64 GB and larger volumes.

[Q] 64GB SD Card Infamous not working.

Sorry but I am new here and have been looking threw as many posts as I can to try to find out if there is a fix for the Infamous ROM not recognizing a 64gb SD card? I have seen posts on the same topic in which I am posting on now with no answer to a fix but since I'm a new member and need to have at least 10 posts before I am able to post on the developers page I am posting here. sorry if this is the wrong area but I'm a noob and didn't know where else to go.
Thank you for your time on this matter, it is just very frustrating to be able to load such a great rom and not have the potential of utilizing a 64gb sd card.
You probably have the card formated as ex fat. You can either flash a kernel that supports ex fat or you can put the card in your computer and format is as fat32. My rom recognized it but I had to reformat as fat32 in order to get a couple 3rd party apps to see it.

I have a ScanDisk Ultra microSDHC 64gb card and when I go to format it, it doesn't give me the option to do fat32 only ntfs and ex fat. Is there another way to format besides going to windows explorer and right click format?
I used a free program called EaseUS Partition Master to format my Sandisk Ultra 64GB for my Galaxy S4. It was quick and easy to reformat from exFAT to Fat32. Hope this helps.

[Q] How much free space does your 64gb card have?

My Samsung 64gb card is acting really weird, freezing up when downloading torrents which my 16gb uhs doesn't have.
Memory available is 58,54 exfat. I'm asking because I thought my previous also broken sSanDisk 64gb card had 59,40 or something..
Should I format this new card? How could I fix this? Instead of sending it back again.. I just got it back for christ sake.. It's been a year since I had 64gb cards all broken and send in for repair this is getting boring.
Also, titanium backup is ging me this annoying "not enough memory available, backup has been canceled" error. Even though it's a HUGE ASS CARD. Please help!

By default TB backsup onto the internal memory....so maybe you wanna check if that's the case....also there are a few reported cases of 64gb cards being frozen when downloading torrents...I'm guessing it has to do with the size.....bigger the size....memory cards tend to corrupt easily...well its my experience anyway....try formating the card through the phone and retry...and the difference in memory (58-59) is the standard size...so no worries there...hope this helps

128GB MicroSD card - Disappearing files/folders

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S5 (SM-G900W8) Canadian model. I purchased a 128GB sd card and I'm running into some issues. My S5 can detect the card, and I can copy files to it. But it seems that one I hit roughly 8.08GB of used storage, anything more I add disappears after my phone reboots.
The card was formatted in FAT32 originally. I have tried exFAT but the phone is unable to read the card in this file format. I have also tried NTFS but same results as exFAT.
I have done some research and have seen others with issues regarding 64 and 128GB sd cards with Samsung Galaxy models, but no fix yet (or at least from what I've seen/read).
This card only seems to work in FAT32, but I am unable to use the full capacity of the 128GB sd card in FAT32.
I have a 32GB sd card that works just fine without issues. Not sure what file table the 32GB card is formatted in though as I did not know of this issue until recently when I discovered it so never bothered to check.
Is there a fix for this that I have not found yet? This is quite annoying.
Thanks
Probably a fake.
i dont have problem with Team MicroSD 64GB
you have to format it in your phone (ExFAT), use file explorer in your phone, do not format using PC

What sd card is this because it seems like it's a fake and may not really have all that storage. I've never had any problems with my 64 gb SanDisk micro sd card which I'm currently using.

SD Card not reading

Hey guys, I was hoping you guys could help me trouble shoot my SD card not reading. I tried my Scandisk 16 gig SD card and it wouldn't read. I tried restarting phone to see if it helped and it didn't. I tried a Samsung 32 gig SD card and it worked. Any suggestions for my 16 gig card? I'd use the 32 gig but I'm letting the wife use it for now. Maybe it needs formatting. Is there a way to do that? Thanks!
Try to format it in the phone. Or check file system on working sd card (Samsung) and format Sandisk using the same with your pc.
