Will it also debrand dutch T-mobile?
Hi Guys,
I bought today the Z1 (C6903) , but unfortunately it's the dutch T-mobile branded device.
I've checked the firmware and it's the same as you mentioned in the topic : Xperia Z1 14.1.G.1.518.
Do you think it's also possible that I can flash the UK firmware?

Dumb question, flashing this over a branded .518 will keep the DRM intact and access to the 5 free movie downloads on Xperia Privilege?:good:

This is a non-standard way of spitting ZIP files, created by 7-Zip. You'll have to use HJSplit to join them or use 7-Zip to extract them. You could also use this command in Windows Command Prompt to join them:
Code:
copy /b C6602_10.3.A.0.423_Unbranded_India_FTF.zip.001 + C6602_10.3.A.0.423_Unbranded_India_FTF.zip.002 C6602_10.3.A.0.423_Unbranded_India_FTF.zip

There are many generic firmwares available for the C6603 (LTE version). You can just take a glance in the General forum. Any of those firmwares would work fine on your LTE version. There is no compulsion to download an Indian firmware as such. The only thing different might be some of the bundled software and the additional language depending on the region.

Does the UK Unbranded version have a "GSM Only" option in Network modes (EE Branded didn't) or just 3G preferred/2G?
3G signal is pretty poor at my house and switching to 2G gives me better battery life and less dropped calls/missed texts.

Any new baseband is a good one as far as I am concerned. It may be aimed at "3" customers, but there could be benefits to others as well.

It's not because the build number is a little higher, that it's necessarily better. They may first have created a generic baseband (.67) and then tweaked it for certain networks (.74). That doesn't mean that .74 has benefits for other networks too, it might even have downsides.
My recommendation: use the baseband for the networks it was intended. There'll be a reason that Sony is releasing .67 firmware to most devices and at the same time .74 only for certain operators.

Under settings/more/Mobile networks/Network modes you can select from the following:-
LTE(preferred)/WCDMA/GSM
WCDMA only
WCDMA/GSM
If you select option 1 or 3, you will get GSM (2G) in the absence of LTE/WCDMA availability.
I'm a Danish 3 user.
I'm on .2.67 - will I be able to root this version by using Doomloards method of flashing kernel from .423, rooting it and flashing back kernel from 2.74?

I didn't really suffer with that before, but it unlocks instantly for me.
Just flash it.

You can package your own FTF with Flashtool. Follow part 2 of my guide here.

You're welcome.
Yes, it was added a while back, so newer versions can do it.

You want to just flash the 292 kernel on a 283 rom? I'm not sure what will happen, to be honest. At worst it won't boot and you'll have to flash back a 283 kernel.
If you flash this FTF, then you will lose root, but you can regain it by following my root guide that I linked in the OP.

Well root should be kept in any case, so if things don't work you can just flash back the 283 kernel.

I made one for rooting here. You can try that one.
Edit - 283 kernel here If you need to flash back.
