Tasker with USB serial interface - IDEs, Libraries, & Programming Tools

Hi Folks,
Thanks for taking the time to read. I'm super new to the app development front. While I don't consider tasker as app development, it is providing me with all my needs so far accept for one thing. I'm looking to integrate serial communications. Slick USB 2 Serial proved that that it can be done, but I somehow need Tasker to be able to read the serial bus and interpret input using the built in expressions. Doing so will enable full integration to automotive applications such as steering wheel button volume control of the android device. Looking for any guidance at this point. This could work via a plugin or third party app.

[Q] [Request] Iconia Dock and Remote Control

Hi Devs/guys,
Today i have just purchased myself the official Iconia A500 Docking station and micro-HDMI cable to test this on my 1080 monior and led tv.
Initial impressions are good however i've noticed that the quality when output the HDMI is very grainey and not as crisp as i had hoped!
Anyways, whilst playing around with the dock through the TV, the remote controls seem ok to get around with easy navigation but i've had to create lots of applications shortcuts as i cannot natively access the 'apps' option with the remote. The play and pause options on the remote also are not application specific etc which is a pain.
A few ideas for this which came to mind are as follows;
1. Is it possible to fine tune or change the HDMI output settings through an application or by modifying any system files on the A500 with root? Features such as having additional hardware profiles which allow you to kill the screen on the A500 and promote all rendering power to the HDMI out so as not to reduce framerates would be nice.
2. Is it possible to create a small application with allows you intercept commands from the remote control and then apply the relevant button command to a mapped profile for a specific app or game?
Did i mention the word 'profile' enough on this?
Just my initial impressions but feel free to comment if you have the dock and remote and encountered other issue or have other ideas!
FIN
Anyone? Lol
I must be making all the boring requests
Hi ddelamareuk,
No, it's a interesting topic , but not so many users have dock and hdmi device
I think request 2 is possible. Acer make lirc related things in kernel, and lirc will make a corresponding keyinput event when it received a ir event.
I will take a research in it, even though I don't have dock station
Thanks
Hey Roggin!
I have more tech than common sense lol
Would be good then in that case if we could create a small app to trap incoming ir commands then map them to a game or app profile for whatever is active on screen!
Is it lazy that i want to do everything with remote?
Thanks for the interest!!

Writing an app that interacts with another app

I want to write an app that will run in the background while I run another app. Mine would look at the screen of the other app, do some computations, and either highlight certain elements, or automatically click certain elements based on those computations.
I realize this would probably require root, correct?
I am a developer, but don't have as much Android dev experience. The parts I'm wondering about are:
- How to write an app that runs in the background of another app, but can detect its screen output and overlay on top of it.
- How to generate screen touch events for the other app.
Thanks for any tips to point me in the right direction!

Can it be done?

Hi,
I can appreciate that certain S4 functions such as Air View necessaite tha the app is programmed to handle this feature. What I am suggesting is an app that can enable S4 functions such as Air Guestures and smart scroll in other apps. Theoritically I think that these functions can be enabled because many apps have scroll functionality built in. It is like using your fingers, a mouse or some other input device to perform mouse functions in windows.
What do you think?
i think it will not work until samsung release some kind of api or something.
but then ... im not into stuff like that
I think that's what their programming competitions are for. They are pretty open with their features. From their perspective, the more unique apps the more their devices become the de facto standard.

Bluetooth instead of USB for App Data source

Needing some advice.....
I have an app that I'm wanting to use (Reads car protocols to control tablet). Presently, this app relies on the data being transfered via USB into the tablet. I'm wanting to either add or replace this connection method to allow for Bluetooth. I assume I'm only needing to change this connection method within the app's resources, manifest and XML files - needs to point to the Bluetooth socket, instead of the USB socket.
I'm not a developer, but feel I can edit this if I know what to edit. Can anyone provide any insight on the best way to accomplish this? Currently, I connect to the OBDII Bluetooth device and run Torque. So, the connection will already be present with the device, just need the separate app (Steering Controls) to read the data coming into the tablet via Bluetooth for specific information that triggers the app to do what it's designed to do.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated! If easier, I'm happy to provide the apk, or specific files within the app for someone to modify (maybe easier than trying to explain it to me).
Thanks in advance!!!!!

Well, Samsung's Smart Remote app (included by default in the S5) has the ability to control Split AC. And if the brand is not found, they let you request for the brand to be added, which, when you do that, they send you an email (almost immediately) asking you for some more details about your device, like brand, model number, and sometimes webpage of the company.
I haven't taken the time to reply to them after that, so I don't know how long it takes for them to add your brand, but at least the service looks promising.
Regards.
well i have tried like 3 times and yes they reply with the mail about asking the details and thats pretty much all they do. nothing is done after that. i think that mail service is kinda automated one that is generating mails to people who request for this and they are automatically forwarded.

You can try an app called "Smart IR Remote" by Color Tiger in the play store. It works great on my Gs5 to control my tv, amp and pvr, and it looks like it might be compatible with your ac unit.

ZaZa remote works for everything I have tried so far, the UI is not great but once you get your head around that its really great.
Another vote for Smart Remote by Color Tiger. I use it for two different AC units at home. It's the best remote app available.
