[Q] Where is the Verizon LG G2 XDA thread? Is the community that small? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The size of the phone is different. The carrier is different. The future compatibility of roms will probably be different. Is it like this since there's not that may support for this phone? Did I buy the wrong phone?

I'm wondering that too, but as long as I have root I could care less about ROM's honestly. I finally found a phone that I love.

I'm watching this also. I just put my brand new Note II on ebay in hopes of grabbing this phone.

Well I for one would love to see a clean rom on this phone.
Especially something that has a working Wifi Tether!

Well, I basically have the CleanROM by rooting it and using titanium backup to uninstall all the bloatware. Life is good.... except for the WiFi tether part. My unlimited data is being wasted.

Can't agree more. The only concern I have about running a rom is loosing the "knock knock" feature. I use it all the time, very rarely do I use the physical buttons.
Coming from a VZW Gnex and buying this phone out right so I didn't loose unlimited data is going to be a bummer if there is no rom support.

I'd love to see a CM rom for the VZW version. Loved it on my GNex, but like others I don't want to lose the knock on. That feature is brilliant.

I'm hoping this forum blows up after the release of the Note 3, when people realize this is the phone to have. Probably won't happen with all the advertising and hype. This G2 is awesomeness in my hand. Makes me sad that this phone won't make it into many developers hands. Fingers crossed that the G2 development section gets a little love.

Can't you just use the FoxFi app to teather? This seems to work regarless of root access, right?

Um, hate to tell you, but HTC and T-Mobile have pretty clearly demonstrated their stance of Free Open Source Software. The whole idea of locking us out goes against the spirit of Linux and Open Source. They are taking the work of others, and using it to turn a profit, screw the user in the process.
My G2 goes back this week. **** you T-Mobile, you just gained another b-stock G2.
Got mine til next Sunday. If no perm root by then, its going back. Guess ill have to stick with the vibrant, but oh well, at least its rootable.

give it time the vibrant is a nice phone no doubt but the g2 will have way more support for one being HTC and two being stock so being able to mod things for the g2 willsorta be how the nexus one is..which has great support who knows g2 might have 3.0 before samsung has 2.2 lol dont quot me either way you have a great phone
I understand, believe me. But I got this phone for its speed, which it def has, its support, being HTC, and the root ability, which is not here, yet at least. I need tether, bad. I hate the vibrant, but its so easily rootable. And I have tether. Had sprint and the evo. Left it for this phone. No regrets other than the crap they pulled on this phone. I wanted the hspa speeds, the vibrant I had right before this one, got almost the same speeds. So why not go back?

Hate to tell you, but the bug referenced is not a bug-as-in-a-hole-to-be-exploited. It's a bug in behavior, where changes to /system are thought to be successful by linux but actually aren't. Instead of getting a this-is-read-only error, the write appears to go through. And when the cache is flushed or when the phone is restarted it's apparent that nothing was written at all.
That said, work is still underway.

Here's the deal dude

I'm going to go get the evo this weekend because Verizon is or has been to exspensive. I've been doing the proper research for root and I think I got that down for the most part. I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the amount of roms you guys have compared to the dx. I'm addicted to flashing roms which is very frustrating when it comes to the dx as there is such lack of roms for it, oh well who fukin cares cry your self a river build a bridge and get over it..so here's my question . Can I flash different roms over top of each other??? Like for instance from cm7 to whatever rom. I know you have to wipe data and stuff already. Is there anything important I need to know??? Thanks

As you can see, we have our share of trolls here on the EVO side of XDA but you should be used to that by now coming from DX. These low-lifes are rampant on these forums, just ignore them and you will be ok...
Regarding your question. Technically, if you are flashing a newer version of a rom like say going to CM7 2.2 coming from 2.1, technically you do not have to wipe everything, just dalvic cache but if you are flashing a completely new rom then it's best to completely wipe everything. There is a zip called "format all" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785271
somewhere in the OP in this link, and you can just flash that zip before you go to a new rom and it automatically wipes absolutely everything for you, so you won't have to worry.
I highly recommend you use the format all zip before every rom update or change, just to be safe. And make sure you create a nand backup before hand.
Welcome to the dark side! I'm sure you will love your evo!
P.S if you're looking for roms to try out, particularly AOSP, I highly recommend MIUI. For a sense rom, go with any of Calkulins.
Let me know if you need anything else.

I'm telling you man, do not get into any kind of conversations with some of these folks. Their goals in life are to literally be useless. Ignore them and just do what you gotta do. Don't let anyone alter your decision.
Disregard what the morons are saying about Sprint. Sprint is by far the best value in wireless services. The amount of money you'll be saving will more than make up for any tiny nuisances you'll find with Sprint. Besides, you have 30 days to try out to see if you like it. If you feel it's not worth it to you, just leave and go back... no questions asked.
The EVO is kinda old news now. I would wait for the next big dual core android with AMOLED action. And the number of roms for EVO actually is not all that impressive. Most of them are regurgitations of others. There are a couple of good sense options (although I think rooted stock sense is best) and then there is cyanogen.... which is the best there is IMO... And now it has the extra G.... not that the 4G has been very useful to me.
I average 1.5 to 1.6 Mbps down and 600 to 800 Kbps up.
That ain't bad for 3G.

Yep me too. Occasionally it will be really slow but that only lasts for minutes.
@OP- Answer to your original question- Yes, you can flash ROM after ROM but you need to wipe in between flashing. One of our awesome devs Calkulin made a script that formats everything completely that is an awesome tool to use before flashing. Makes for a good clean install. You can find it in his mods thread in the theme section.

Atrix coming to Sprint?

Sent from my HTC EVO
who cares about the locked bootloader. The phone is amazing without the need to root it.
I switched over to the Atrix for while before swapping it for an Inspire. I still have an Evo as well and follow this thread to keep up with whats going on. But anyways from using the Atrix for about 2 weeks, I can tell you that it's not all what it's cracked out to be. It is somewhat a snappy device and yes it's dual core, but it only uses 1 core. The 2nd core is used when using webtop I believe. At least that's how I understood it when it was posted in the Atrix forums.
The build quality is nowhere near the Evo or the Inspire for that matter, however, it does feel good in the hands. It's very lightweight when compared to the Evo and the Inspire and it has like a cheap feeling to it.
The screen on the Atrix is very vivid...I think they call the screen qHD or something like that, but it's nice. The super lcd that the Inspire has is a lot better in my opinion...but that's just me.
The battery is where the Atrix excels. I was getting about 15 hours on one charge and that's without overclocking and roms. The Atrix has the best battery when it comes to Android.
The two main reasons I swapped my Atrix for a Inspire is the bootloader was locked and motoblur slows the phone down a lot. The new sense on the inspire is Boss! It's smooth as heck with no lag.
But to each their own. I for one will not be getting this device unless the bootloader is unlocked so that I can hopefully flash a rom that removes motoblur.
Eh I'd rather have the EVO 3d/dual core.
HTC>Moto/samsux
Obviously I do which is why it's a fail.....I only speak for myself but obviously other people care ad well.

I think that the inability to install outside apps is a Motorola problem but an ATT problem. The reason I say this is because the Inspire also lacked the ability to install outside apps. That was before I rooted it. Which by the way, just like the Inspire, if you root the Atrix you can install outside apps as well.

If its running android 2.3.3 and when you load into the bootloader it says "s-on" next to the radio version then its not rootable yet.

The general consensus is that they will not be unlocking older phones so as to encourage consumers to buy the newer ones.
EDIT: There is always of course the possibility that an independent developer will find an exploit and give us the ability to gain root access to our phones. Some devs are known to be working on this now. There's no guarantee of course, but there is hope for those of us who were feeling hopeless.
OK, so the phone has android 2.2, so I automatically assume it can be rooted. Now, can someone recommend me a good rom? I know about cm7 and miui, but what do the devs here have to offer?

I really liked Deck's ROM; lightweight, few issues; great battery life when combined with Tiamat 3.3.7. It's basically CM7 with a lot of the extra clutter (language packs, etc) removed. It looks and acts almost exactly like Android on the Nexus S.
That was my daily driver. I also really liked playing with Synergy; it's feature-packed and has a lot of bells and whistles, and is a fun toy. I didn't like it for daily use, though. I am really into the KISS philosophy when it comes to my smartphone.
And what about kernels? Is there a good choice of kernels to sift through, or for the most part do the roms already come with the best kernel for the job..?

Well that's a question that is dependent on a few things:
Do you prefer physical or virtual keyboards?
Is the loss of a nicer screen worth a bigger screen?
The Epic could be a great phone if it had the developer support that the Evo had/has.
They don't even have an AOSP ROM.
YES, trade, then load synergy rls1, then freedom kernel, for root use unrevoked,

My personal opinion is that developer support is what makes the phone.
The Epic has a better core for performance and for battery.
If I recall correctly the GPU is better too.
The screen is nicer.
The keyboard sucks [because I hate physical keyboards]
But the developer support, comparative to the Evo, is nil.
Now, there have been signs of an increase in support but with the SGS2 coming it's hard to say how much will come to the Epic itself.
I actually just came from an epic to the evo since mine was stolen (which really sucked I loved that phone) but with the evo I've never looked back. I really liked the physical keyboard since I'm not a fan of soft keyboards but swype and mods alongside a much larger screen make up for it. Speaking of the screen, its no super amoled but its definitely one of the nicest I've used and and the phone overall is just beautiful. Battery is about the same for both in my experience. But like others have said the evo has MUCH better developer support. I remember I was using frozen syndicate Rom 1.2 before my epic was stolen ( back in end of may/ beginning of June) and they still didn't update I believe. Plus Samsung still hasn't released gingerbread for it and its being discontinued October I think. So all in all you should trade for the evo, definitely much better software support especially for a phone reaching its EOL, not to mention hardware (i.e. cases) Plus sense is just great
Sent from my beastly Synergized Evo via XDA App
Ive had both phones, I had the epic then i traded it for my evo<3 which i love so much. I dont regret trading it at all. Personally, i like the evo more it is greater over all

It's not but why would you want to do that in the first place?
It would have to be ported to work with vzw model.

Why do people ask these dumb questions? Why would you want to use another variant's ROM and then later cry about soft bricking your phone. Its things like this where people end up crying for help about soft bricking their phone.

Just a q, chill. I am running malladus rom on my phone fine... Just don't like the signal bar with the r... That's all. If u don't have anything nice to say... Don't say anything... Got the phone really cheap from my friend on verizon... Using it on T-Mobile just fine.
