How Can we Change Build Prop For Stock data Icons AT&T? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can we??!?! Ive done this with every phone I couldnt load an international rom, even the Optimus G Pro. I`d change ro.build.target_operator= in the build prop to either TMO or OPEN depending on what Data Icons I wanted it and just work with no errors or causing anything to force close..
Well on the G2 Changing it to anything other than ATT I can NOT access the Mobile Network settings it force closes and says "Unfortunately, the Process com.android.phone has stopped" How do I fix this????? Its the ONLY problem I have when changing that, The Data Icons change and work perfectly!, But I get the stupid error when trying to go to mobile networks which NEEDS to work.
Any Ideas??

have you tried
adb pull /system/build.prop c:\ (this copy build.prop to your pc at the root of your primary c:/ drive )
and replacing the original values, and copy the build.prop back to g2 with adb push ? i'm not sure this will work

the thing only Work is ADB SIDELOAD ...
SO need a Flashable ZIP either to overwrite the build.prop or to install the recovery via Sideload...

adb pushing apn list

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong...
I am trying to push an apn list to my magic 32b (vodafone) and am using the following commands
adb devices
adb remount
adb push apns-conf.xml /system/etc
This is how i`ve seen to do it on these forums... and it pushes ok... but i never get any apns show up on my phone..
even after doing the reset to default thing.
What am i doing wrong?? does the file need to need to be somewhere else on the phone?? or called something different???
any help is appreciated
bump######
maybe try packaging it into an update.zip and updating it through recovery. that might work. some files wont let you just simply push stuff through.
you can try first to push it again through recovery. so reboot into recovery and try pushing it.
if dont work, try the update.zip method.
will try what you mentioned... but I have a feeling it wont work...
as cyanogenmod roms already have the file in them. Why does it not already show up some APNs if not mine.
Now trying again.
ok so tried pushing while in recovery mode, and no luck...
I have never put together an update.zip... so am wondering how i would go about it...
Does the zip need signing??? and how would i structure it to make certain the file goes to the right place??
Thanks for your help
Yep.. it needs to be signed.. I've re-searched this files to sign and they are a bit out there.. you may find some dead links, but there's always a good one.. But, tell me you, use a linux OS? Because what's out there is for linux, I don't even researched if there's something for windows!
i`m on windows :-(
wud luv to make the change to linux, but dont know enuf... and like my gaming to much!!
Cud anyone on a linux machine possibly put together an update.zip for me??
search in the dream's theme forum for stericson's easy auto sign app. works for windows.
I always push my apns-conf that way.
Just one thing: do you do it right after wiping, updating and rebooting? On the PIN screen at first boot, before the Android tutorial.
That's how I do it and it works fine for me.

it wont work because the system doesnt read that file after first boot...apn list is loaded elsewhere in /data/data/
If ur going to do it that way u have wipe data after in recovery or delete the data/data/com.android.telephony watever folder and then reboot .....wiping data being easier

I couldn't reinstall anymore apks deleted from /system/app with amberhome. I had to recoock rom :/
Please, please post the LG Home apk, I foolishily deleted it from my Optimus One and I've heard that the phone may be bricked if I uninstall my third party launcher.

Thanks for uploading but I get the message that the application cannot be installed. Got any ideas? I can't seem to move the files into correct directory either.
Try to restore it, maybe work.
I used a website that allowed me to copy your files to the right directory (I can't post it here because I am a new user). However, I cannot actually install the apk which is a worry. But I think the phone wouldn't brick now if I chose to restore or whatever since the files are there. Don't want to take the risk just yet though.
My suggestion was to try restore the LgHome.apk with some app what support backup/restore, like SystemApp Remover. If doesn't work just use other home luncher, don't do a factory reset, because i get LgSetup wizzard error, black screen with no system launcher, and launcer pro was installed. So take care.
Try this one LGHome.apk. Hope is work.
looks like they sent u already. what happened to me was that i deleted it, then the phone would be lock at the android BOOT screen with the flashing logo BUT i managed to connect it to the pc and then launch "adb shell". via adb i pushed the Lg Home.apk to the system/app (i also had to change permissions of the phone file system via linux commands) then it worked, actually downloaded launcher pro right away and i love it, not using LG Home.apk anymore.
regarding uploading the file via adb:
1 adb shell
2 su
3 set permissions of the file system to be mounted r/w, SHOULD be this : mount -t yaffs2 -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
4 exit (one for exiting su)
5 exit (exiting)
then exit the shell from the phone.
> adb push LGHome.apk system/app // important, if you have a space in the filename you'll have a problem with adb and have the .apk file locally on the same folder where you have adb.exe otherwise you'll have a problem or you'll have to add adb to the path of your windows/linux path env variables, hence use adb push LG*Home.apk system/app - should work otherwise just rename it w/o space, works anyway.
then reboot it should work!

Yes I have file in the correct directory with correct permissions too, but can you actually install it to the phone? Or does it fail like it does for me?
Have you trying this one?? To me is installing fine, but get error when try to open it, maybe couse i have prime rom with apps2sd. Anyway i dont use LgHome.
That's not the real LG Home its one that's been hacked to use on devices that didn't have it preinstalled. The one you gave before was an original but it doesn't install which is really pissing me off.

my phone couldn't start anymore (stuck @ android logo) and i copied this one from my friend's LG O1 (same as mine) bought in italy, same store i did, and it worked. actually the home didn't have all icons i had before so looked "weird" but at least i was able to start up the phone. then you can re-add to the home screen the apps and worked.
eventually i installed launcher PRO and im using that one now, much better.

im not sure that all versions are identical, that is what helped me and managed to have the phone start up.
But did you install it or just place it in the directory?
Same LGHome problem here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886911. But if you can navigate in the phone and are not stuck in boot logo or black screen, why need LG launcher. Just don't do factory reset cause you will get a phone with no launcher.
Merry Christmas everyone!

[Guide] Xposed for Boost Stylo 5.1.1 and Xposed Q and A for all carriers

Attention if you try this and end up with a brick or your device transforms and tries to destroy you; it's not my fault you did this not me. So just read all of this thread not just the O.P to get out of a bind if you reply with "the thread is too long i wont read it please help" don't expect anything short of "there's a search bar use it"
Here is how i got it to work without a Custom recovery
follow my steps perfectly
Found these instructions in Italian on how to install without recovery (i edited and translated them to work correctly):
This Guide will show you how to install Xposed Framework on the LG G Stylo with Android
Lollipop 5.1.1 without recovery!
Required:
Root
Busybox installed on the device: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Script Manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&hl=en
Package needed Xposed Boost Stylo.zip: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347813218
1- Download the package by pressing the link
2- Unzip
3- Put the contents of the folder in the root of internal or external storage of the device (no sub-folders).
4- Install Xposed (the apk is among the file you just put into the device) BUT do not open it
5- Open Script Manager and navigate to the installer file (script) and chose script, su then press save .
6- now select the same script and press run and choose the option according to what you want (Yes/No)
7- Wait for the script to finish, now go to Xposed Installer apk that you installed before and select soft reboot (it will turn off just power back on)
8- After restart and you may use Xposed properly
PS: procedure performed perfectly on Boost LG G Stylo which as you know does not have recovery mod, should work on other 5.1.1 phones
link to the video with his links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDInZYNrEr8
and link to original Xposed thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Awesome, i'll test this out on my boost stylo. I've been waiting for Xposed for a while. Will report back with results.
I'm stuck trying to execute the installer script, anytime i try to run it, it shows this:

hmmm...worked for me on first try....
Wel now that i look through the steps i forgot to install xposed installer, and i also had to change a line in the script for the framework, after that the script went fine. But now trying to install xposed i get "application not installed", is there something i need to change?

hmmm...try installing it as a system app...like copy and paste it into the system/app folder and fix the permissions and reboot...
Well i pushed the installer into system/app, fixed the permissions and rebooted, and ended up with a soft brick. I think its because i deleted some of the files that were pushed from the zip folder. I'm gonna try to bring it back to life.

I tried using that but it gets stuck, i can see my device with adb, maybe pushing something into the system will fix it? A script to push the right files in? If not i pulled my internal storage so i can try a factory reset.

I finally got xposed on lollipop (i followed all the steps correctly this time). I had to change the name of the .zip file in the script though, after that the script ran fine. Do you know if gravitybox works on the stylo?

Screen resolution messed up -help needed!

Hi, playing around with an app called "Resolution Changer Pro", I set my phone to 350x350 in order to try a few things how my smartwatch would behave, which has also android and 400x400.
That went OK, and I was able to get back to fullHD fine.
Then I also changed the DPI accidentally to 100 and then the phone crashed.
Rebooting results in a black screen and I can´t do anything....
With adb I tried to set the resolution back to something usable, and the reply was that the window manger is not running.
Then I tried to get hold of the build.prop with adb and checked the DPI setting there, which was 480 .. the defailt setting.
Now my android knowledge is at the edge, and I don´t have an Idea how to reset the settings back to normal.
What could I do without deleting everything and re-flashing?
Pros.. what should I do ??? :crying::crying:
Flash same rom via recovery.

First you have to flash TWRP in order to use terminal in recovery.
Download AROMA Filemanager from here thanks to @amarullz
Go into recovery then flash it. (don't forget to mount system partition first.)
Guide to path /system/ then select Menu->open console
type in
vi build.prop
Click to collapse
Once you open the build.prop with vi , you can now use the arrow button to guide to your section.
There's two mode in vi, edit mode and connamd mode.
You have to enter "i" first to enter edit mode
Once you finish editing, press Esc on top and now you are back to command mode
Enter following command to save the file and quit:
:wq
Click to collapse
Now press Close on right top then press menu and exit file manager, reboot your device.
You are done.
TIPs: Here's an useful command to delete a line that you can't use delete to eliminate
In command mode, type in following command to delete a line:

1. Ok, flashing the same rom did not help... this was the first thing I tried.
2. I already tried to work with my build.prop, which I downloaded with adb from the device.. I already said that in my first post.
In the build.prop the dpi setting is at 480, like I said. Modyfiying it from twrp with vi is the same as downloading it via adb and then modyfiying it locally and uploading it again..... this did not help, dpi was at 480, like I said.
Strange... right?
Where is the screen resolution saved? Dpi is in build.prop, but where is the resolution saved at?
The problem must be somewhere in the data partition, since flashing does not help. I erased system and re-flashed. no help.

Then you should backup before flashing or doing root permission changes.
You can now do a fully backup , data, cache anything And then flash the stock firmware via SP_FlashTool.
If you boot, then try to restore the partition one by one.

Ok, I did that... made a backup of all partitions, erased everything and re-flashed latest dev firmware.
Off course, everything works fine now, but all my settings and stuff are lost.
going back to my old data partition, the problem is back.
How can I get back to my old settings? What do you mean one by one?

Alcatel Onetouchh Pop C7 (7041X) - Messed up build.prop

So i wanted to edit the android version. I succesfully edited it but after a restart i was shocked by all apps force closing so i couldnt even fix it. Instead i did a factory reset so the root is lost, and now i tried to pull build.prop via adb but i always get this error: "remote object '/system/build.prop' not a file or directory" and i cannot seem to get it working.
