IR Blaster - Xperia Z1 General

After looong wait & tonnes of leaks the great Sony flagship smartfone Z1 is launched
It has very nice features & hardware but till now i didnt read any word ABOUT IR BLASTER
Seeng other features & hardware i liked this device very much, but one feature is laking which makes me confused
CAN ANYBODY CONFIRM THAT IT HAS INFRARED REMOTE CONTROLER OR NOT???
As you know nowadays every leading brand has started to include IR Blaster in their devices ...including sony (xperia zl & tab)..
But seems like Z1 has no ir blaster ???

Z1 doesn't have the IR blaster. Imo Sony is trying to promote its NFC technology in remotes instead

Its very sad to hear that

I read the white paper of the phone and there is no mention of ir blaster, but the on the case for the lenses is a hole that looks like for it.

I believe the hole is for the mic which helps prevent background noise, I could be wrong tho.

You may be right...because i saw z1 pic carefully ...and found that there is some kind of logo or somthing in device near the hole of case, but there is nothing external (visible) hole or other thing in device for which the hole is made in case...!!!
That meanmay be the hole is for sensor behind it!!!!

It is a second mic. Just as the Z has.

second microphone is the hole on the right see pic.

As I already said but just to confirm with a pic, it is a 2nd mic, it's just it's an unusual design normally there is just a pin hole.

Look closely at my picture with arrows. Still talking on the microphone, but I'm talking about the second arrowed and labeled "IR" marked holes.

No IR blaster on Z1 International models. Only NTT Docomo Japan variant will have IR Blaster.

I understand what you mean, but on the phone itself there is nothing behind the case that indicates an IR sensor, maybe it's something to do with the case, but I'd very doubt that Sony would not tell us of a feature.

CES 2011 | my impressions and pictures of XPERIA ARC [=

well I live in vegas and I went to ces especially to see and test the new XPERIA ARC.
Well, its super thin and super fast heh.
The.timescape app looks.a bit different and the new timescape and media scape widgets are wayyy cooler cuz u can just browse all the 'cards' on ur home screen without opening the actual apps.
The transitions are fast and lag free but like every other phone there was a mil second lag once.in a while.
The app drawer looks different a bit, it horizonally and every page has a folder like frame.
As for the device hardware it.is a VERY slick a business like type of phone, u know the type of phone u wear a suit for lol and look like an important business man.
It is very slim and super light. The arc like design is really nice too.
The new bravia engine does make pictures look way better when taken in the dark and the screen itself is very colorful bright.and sharp.
As u can see in the picture bellow they had both colors at the show, the silver and the supposesly blue one which looks totally black.
The stuff I didn't like about this phone are the fact that the camera button is super small and it doesn't have the half press focus button like the x10.
the usb port was on the side like the x1, not sure if its good or bad heh
And of course my BIGGEST complaint.... we won't be able to have this super cool slick phone in WHITE color :-(
And yes I just made this all topic from my beloved white x10 eh.
Enjoy the pics.

We are in the world of 3G and 4G.
Where is the front camera for face calls?
Is it not the most needed in such high end phone in this era?
Can we add the front camera before releasing it out?

Seems to be a regional phenomenon, but in Germany i NEVER EVER saw anyone video calling. Nobody does this here and nobody seems to care about front facing camera either.
Germans, correct me if you think I'm wrong.
havent ever seen one person yet who uses video calls.
People are conservative in Europe. Showing emotions in public is dangerous and it's impossible not to when you're video-calling someone.
As for the ARC … It's another illusion, just like the rest of the Xperia line. Good hardware, promising project, but a developer not very fond of software development and open-source programming, hence the bootloader.
4 me SE is dead....
Thanks for your review and photos, I cannot wait for it to be available in Singapore soon.
No regrets having my X10 besides other brands of Android despite SE delay in the firmware upgrade but overall the user experience is superb as I do not have any occasion that my phone will hang and I have to remove battery to restart the phone compared to other brands.
Xperia Arc is my next phone after my X10.
Qualcomm MSM8255 is a mistake, that is so 2010
Almost outdated hardware, stupid aftersales service, slow software development? I've learned my lesson with X1 and X10.. Won't be rushing for this one..
Better to get that Motorola, the one you can plug to a thing to create a laptop..

Never seen video calling actually being used here in Canada either.
Biggest mistake is not having the charge port on the bottom of the phone. Don't understand why they do that.....................

For some reason mobilefun dont have it in Black now. I saw one on there a few weeks back though
I bought mine for £5 from a shop called chitterchatter where I bought my phone from. Mine was by a company called 'Konect' but it's probably the same case sent out to different sellers. You can get it dirt cheap here on ebay

That is just the standard S-Line Case churned out from China and available all over the web at varying prices. I can't believe some companies get away selling these at such prices online, the margins are ridiculous. I got mine for £2.50 on eBay and it must be said, it is an awesome case which I'd recommend it to any SGS2 user. Previously purchased a few other TPU cases and none of them compare to the S-Line (Flexishield/Super Case/Sleekcase or whatever).

Nope, i just thought it offers much better protection than the other cases that don't cover the screen. And being a former HTC Touch HD user i was used to a much thicker phone design, almost dropped the sammy couple of times before buying the case, cause i wasn't used to such a thin phone.
Yea I agree without the case, it is a very slippery bugger. With the case, it just manages to stay in your hands.

Well the front is unprotected so the chrome bezel might get scratched. But the back is fully protected. I've also been using the sae case for my N8 for months and it hasnt got any scratches on it.
But the best thing is that its very light and quite thin. Also looks great on the phone.
So I'd say for scratches it's pretty good. But for impacts, I'd suggest the tough case or some silicon/flexihield case.

I agree. It seems a bit fishy that a firmware update should fix the the defocused edges. Im betting the new updated unit they recieved also had a different lens.
Im just hoping that they will ship units from now on with same lens and its not just a speciel unit for the camera review that HTC shipped to them.
They even point out in the review that they found it strange that the updated firmware had anything to do with the fix of this in the new unit they recieved.

Well, you would think Samsung would tell the public aswell that their commercial from last year which turned into a scandal for them because they pretended it was shot with the Galaxy S3 but indeed was shot with a pro camera.
Sometimes they do things just to make their product seem better than it is. And hope noones finds out until they have sold you the phone.
But I really hope their not doing something like this because it would be great if its true.
But I will wait to buy one until its publicly available and hear some more reviews then.

I checked my camera by shooting my computer monitor. I know there is a refresh/interference pattern but it was good enough to test the corners. I can say it is a little softer right in the VERY corner. But overall the image sharpness is maintained well across the frame. Certainly nothing worse than a big 35mm lens on a big SLR camera. Looks totally respectable. But of course I would appreciate firmware improvements in terms of noise etc.

awesome and the thing is the headphone jack not cover but yet its waterproof that some next generation stuff sony!!
z1 has open jack, so nothing new. To be honest this is pointless, so they add more ram, bigger battery and a useless camera. What is the point of that if they cant even provide a good working camera for other phones. Each update make the camera worser. Phone companies dont know what else to do, so they bump up the speeds and so on, think its best thing ever.
The new UI, new function such as Time Shift Video 4K and more on 4.4(XZ2) will port to XZ

Released globally in March.... but I guess globally doesn't include the US. We'll probably get Z2s in like august or something. This sucks though, hoping it comes to the US soon and with tmobile again.
I skipped in the Z1 because it's not that big of an upgrade. What I also like about Z2 is that FINALLY, another company decides to put dual speakers on the front of the phone for audio. Here's hoping the camera is a lot better, preferably in low light conditions.
Z2 looks awesome and promising. SONY is on the right track.

I’m here to introduce you something different than the standard Google Cardboard. I’m talking about the BlitzWolf® VR Glasses, based on the Google’s Cardboard idea, but improved. It is similar to new VR Glasses made from well-known brands, but I must admit that I prefer this one because it costs much (and I’ll say it again, much) less than other VR Glasses and offers more or less the same experience.

Remember that this headset is missing a button unlike the Google Cardboard, so this is why I’m saying “more or less”. There’s an official bundle that includes also a Controller, so that’s probably something not really important, but this is still missing feature.
I have tested it with two devices, LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S4. The former has just an HD Screen, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem because I was able to watch videos and play games without any problem, but the latter offers a much better experience, especially because its screen is brighter and sharper.

Its chassis is plastic-made which makes it pretty light. It doesn’t mean that it feels cheap, its plastic is strong enough and without any imperfection. I have just noticed some issues with the painting, especially the silver colored part, but nothing serious. Lens seems to be well-made, absolutely clear, even if they tend to attract dust easily.
The removable back cover helps the device to cool down and allows the usage of camera and speakers, pretty useful especially if you have a barbecue-device such as my Galaxy S4

Unfortunately its device holder is the worst part, I find it hard to use, and if you do not use it carefully you can risk to scratch your device. (e.g. Nexus 4 has a rubber made frame on the back, it can be scratched easily even with your nails). Also, the device holder uses a magnet to keep the whole back cover attached to the chassis, so if you use a heavy device it could be a problem because the magnet isn’t strong enough to handle such weight.

All the rest is absolutely perfect, completely adjustable, comfortable and absolutely cheap.

Pros: Comfortable, Cheap, Completely Adjustable and Lightweight.
Cons: bad-designed device holder, poor back cover’s magnets and missing button.
I got this device from Banggood.com. Full res. Images can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/Xd4ey

Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Banggood.com provided me a sample item to write a sincere review about it.
UPDATE: Confirmed to work without issues also with 5.5" devices. (So its support is confirmed)
I believe that this unit is more commonly known under the Shinecon brand but I could be wrong. I have one too and find the lack of button to be a right royal PITA. I've tried to use it with my ipega game pad but the mapping doesn't seem right and it doesn't behave as expected, do you have a good workaround?

I'm using a Bluetooth Mouse as a button and more.
About the gamepad, it highly depends on your device and installed OS.

Ah, I have one of those so I'll give it a try. Device is Galaxy S6 running completely stock marshmallow. In one of the modes the game pad seems to make the left thumb stick act as a mouse but maybe there's a little glitch.
