Upgrade time - EVO 4G General

So my og is a mess of cracks and other issues and my 3vo has the digitizer ghost touch. So I am looking for a new cdma device. Been looking at the note 2, s4, and a couple of the nexus devices.
I flash my phone so bad esn phones are the best way to go for me. They are cheaper than new and i don't get stuck with a contract. The nexus phones seem to have the best of the aftermarket roms but not sure which one is the best. I do like htc sense but so far the one just seems out classed by the rest.
So I figured I would see what others think would be the way to go.

I've found the LTE EVO pretty cheap on craiglist and swappa. As well as the Droid DNA which is both cdma and gsm. I've gone the way of GSM now because there is a Wal-mart exclusive t-mobile prepaid plan for $30 a month unlimited text, and data (up to 5gigs high speed then throttled afterwards) 100 minutes. Though I rarely make calls.

This may help me make a decision on a new phone. I go the prepaid route as well. I'm currently in the same market as a phone buyer so I will have to keep GSM in mind. Thanks for that heads up sir.

The downside of gsm is the simcard. Your esn is on the card so there are no bad esn phones which means the prices are higher than a cdma with a bad esn.

I'm still using my OG,Not sure i wanna give it up,its been a good ole phone, very reliable and durable and i have a great rom(Eternal Prophecy) that does good on battery and speed and looks good,so i might hold out for a really good phone, haven't found anything that holds a candle to the EVO yet.

The EVO LTE was a nice upgrade a year ago when I moved up from my OG EVO. A year later, though, there is a whole new swath of Android phones to choose from. If I had to upgrade now from my EVO LTE I don't even know what I'd choose. It's definitely a "buyers market", so to speak.

Possible buy..

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a att branded Nexus S, found one on Craigslist for $300..
I think its a fair price, Guy is local and I'm tired of my Inspire.
Reasons I would like to buy it, smaller screen size, pure aosp, battery life...
I just got the inspire about 3 months ago and will more then likely keep it..
What are things I should look for to make sure it is the real deal or just in general?
Any help is appreciated honestly.
I know I could wait for something better to come out ina few months but I don't use my phone for gaming, just purely alot of web browsing, texting and surfing forums..
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Only advantage to the Inspire is screen size. I have owned a Inspire and currently own a NS4G and I like both, but Nexus is smooth. When I buy phones I really just check cosmetic and play with it and check about phone to see what its on and browse the interwebs for a few.
Make sure it is truly the i9020a version and not the i9020t or some other variant. Otherwise it isn't truly the AT&T phone (would not work with 3G otherwise).
What should the about read besides 2.3.4 which kernal is stock etc and thanks for the replies guys keep then coming please

Does the a and t stand for the carriers? Obviously att and T-Mobile?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Nexus S phones do not have the carrier branding. Only Samsung and Google in the back.
Basically I was asking if the "a" at the end of the model number is for at&t?

Get the IMEI # and call att check it. If he wont give it to you then move on! Gsm phones don't have esn they take sims and you could end up with a stolen phone and not even know it. I know here in Austin they are going for less than what that guy is asking. Just seen a white one for $260 and it was squeky clean.

The AT&T nexus s is only $99 on contract, so $300 for LBNIB isn't sketchy--but the white ns for $260 kind of is. I say meet with the guy if you like the price, inspect for damages and all accessories, then stick your sim in and wait for that 3G or H symbol to pop up. Also make test calls and take pics to ensure speakerphone/mic/camera/etc. is working.
I just bought a LBNIB for $325, so $300 is a good deal imo.

So I just talked to him again, he sent the pictures like he said he would, sweet baby jesus she looks fine! lol
Turns out the reason he mentioned his friend was because they are old business partners and the actual seller wouldn't be able to meet me in person, because he would be at work, so he is going to give the phone to his friend, who he trusts to meet up with me.
I didn't ask the guy where he worked but his friend works downtown here and it's not to far for me, so hopefully all goes well..

Samsung stratosphere

So I have a opportunity to use the stratosphere (temporarily) for a few weeks. I'm an Epic user. I got to say that this phone is the Epic done right. I like how the usb port is on the bottom of the phone which doesn't block the headphone jack with a L shaped charger. The phone is running Gingerbread stock. LTE definitely has better coverage in my area. The back piece is textured and feels good in your hands. It's definitely the Epic done right but it's late to the party. For $99 its not bad.

I love my Epic. And if I had to switch to Verizon, I would want this phone. At least until I could afford a nice, new, shiney phone with a bigger screen and no slide out keyboard. I'm getting so tired of the thickness of my phone for a keyboard I don't use.
I think it's kinda weird, though, that Verizon is getting this, considering I thought that the Epic is nearing it's EOL.

Also I'd like to add that the stratosphere (since I was on Verizon for a week trying it out) is a good phone but f verizons data caps. I'm not paying $10 a GB. I don't care who you are money doesn't grow on trees like the way Verizon sees it. I live in Miami so network coverage is iffy on all carriers. Verizon was the worst for me, getting complete data black out zones in great areas. Sprint had the best coverage for me 3G wise but was pretty slow. I'd never get 4G at work. Now on tmo I'm getting 1.5 mb/sec to 1.8 mb/sec over 4G at work. So that's a huge performance gain for me and I haven't even rooted my SG2 yet. Tmo doesn't charge for tethering. Unlimited everything. So yeah I'm pretty happy as long as I don't get teh boot from tmo.

SC and WoW use different ports, so I'm sure some easy packet sniffing paints some major red flags. 10 gigs shouldn't trigger any red flags.....

HTC didn't really make many T-Mobile phones of that generation. Just the MT4G AND G2. Spec-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G is similar, but the Vibrant has much better support by devs here.
I think you can also unlock the Infuse 4G to run on TMO, but I'd check on that yourself to see if you can get it to run on TMO's 4G network. Otherwise, sell it, save up some cash, and buy a T989 used. Some great ROMs for us over there.

Well my account is up for my upgrade in a week and just wanted a little bit more information from the rest of the guys in the community. I'm stuck between the HTC EVO LTE and the Optimus G. I like my EVO LTE. Never played with any of the LG Android phones, so I can't really make a fair comparison. The One is a great choice in my opinion, too. The main drawback for some users will be the lack of expandable memory (SD card). There is still plenty of development with the EVO LTE, too. Just recently (within the last month or so) devs got a Sense 5 port from the One working on the LTE. There are several custom kernels that have been released, and a few of the devs who moved up to the One still have their LTE and have stated they will continue to dev for it

Just jumped on the OG Evo forums for the first time in over a year. I went from the OG Evo to the Evo 3D when it launched, and then preordered the Evo LTE. The LTE is a great phone and there is plenty of development for it. As much as I love HTC, I'm probably gonna pass on the One. Really wish Sprint would offer the 64GB version, but even then I don't know. I've told myself my next phone WILL have at least a 5" display. The Note 2 felt too big, surprisingly. But I really wish Sprint offered a version of the J Butterfly, like Verizon did with the Droid DNA. Not knocking the One by any means, I still may pick it up, as I usually get a new phone every year. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Evo LTE! That said though, with the One being released, I don't know if I'd choose the Evo LTE over the One. The main downfall of the One, in my opinion, is the lack of sd card slot. Especially since Sprint isn't going to offer the 64GB version! That's a big mistake for Sprint in my opinion!! I'd take an sd card slot over a sim slot any day, as I have no use for a sim slot! Really bro, you just need to go on a store and play with the One and the Evo LTE so you can really see sock one fits you best. Do keep in mind though that if you're with Sprint, or staying with Sprint anyway, 32GB is All the storage you'll have with NO ability for expandable storage!! That's the real deal breaker for me anyway! Either way, good luck with your decision! ALMOST any new smartphone(except Apple obviously! Lol!) will be an upgrade to your OG Evo!!
