[Q] Sprint S4 - cannot connect to internet via gsm chip - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi All,
I have a Sprint S4 (SPH-L720) which i got from the states. I plan to use this in Canada...was able to root/unlock the phone via SIM Unlock Method posted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415587&highlight=sph-l720).
My issue is that i am unable to browse internet or use any apps needing internet on the GSM/UTMS network mode. I have a Rogers LTE chip that i am using and am able to use the phone (voice calling) with no issues. I can use internet on wifi but am unable to when trying internet via the phone chip...i do have a 6GB plan with Rogers and can browse internet when used on another phone.
I had to downgrade the Baseband to MDL/MDC to sim unlock the phone and have later installed MF9.
The software version and baseband now on the phone is: L720VPUAMF9. Earlier had an issue that the wifi was not working, option was disabled...(was getting a message - that an app is trying to connect...) this got fixed after i flashed the kernel version.
Can anyone advice how i can use data from the GSM network and not wifi.. has anyone faced the same issue.

Add your APN for your gsm sim under APN settings.

Thanks guys...i was able to get the APN settings and now my phone works on data from the lte chip inserted.
Now my issue is that my phone does not show LTE....i have another S4 with Rogers and i verified running speed test on a friend's phone to compare...my specs on the sprint phone are almost 40% lower than his phone on the same network..ran from the same location (apt). I tried various combinations i.e. (LTE, LTE/CDMA, GSM) but i can only get 3g or H+.
Any suggestions that i can try...Thanks!

This phone doesn't have the proper bands to work on Rogers LTE.

myTouch 3g LE on CBW cant connect to internet at all (please shed some insight)

My brother just bought a myTouch 3g LE and unlocked it for use on Cincinnati Bell. CinBell and T-Mobile both use the same 1700/2100 3g frequencies so he should get 3g just fine (for the record my Nexus One gets incredible 3g in the area on CinBell).
He can't connect to any network at all now. At first his internet was very spuratic, no 3g and only occasionally edge. We tried every possible APN settings we can find for CinBell android phones (Hero, N1, Blaze, and other random combinations with no luck). Next I did a hard reset and tried the combo's again to no avail.
Does anyone have any insight why he cant connect to the network? He even just got a new sim card to ensure he had a 3g one..
Is there a radio update out he might need? Should I try a T-mobile sim to ensure the radio is opporating properly?
My next step is to root/unlock the bl and flash it.Then try.But at this point I'm feeling pretty pessimistic...
im not familiar with that fone right now but do you think it needs some net isp specific configs,

Yes I've tried quite a few different combos with no luck

No one has any idea why this unlocked phone wont connect to 2g/3g with the same settings that work on my Nexus?
The cs rep simply said "some unlocked phones just have this issue," and i just find that very hard to believe.

GSM Nexus S w/ AWS sim card

Hey guys,
So I am thinking about giving my Nexus S to my little brother. My Nexus S is a GSM model (fido/rogers/at&t) and he has a sim card from an AWS carrier (wind mobile).
I understand that data will not work, all I am looking to do is get calling to work.
I inserted the sim card in the phone and get no signal. The APNs auto loaded. It says registered on network but i get "emergency calls only"
I am running the 4.0.3 OTA modified to work on at&t and such.
The calling should work right? do you guys have any tips???
Thanks

Yes, get the Wind/Mobilicity-compatible i9020T model of NS, better yet, don't be cruel to your little brother, switch him to Chatr and keep the phone.
Since Wind does not have a 2G/EDGE network, he will simply be roaming all the time on Rogers; you obviously don't want that.
Like stangri said, he needs the i9020T, otherwise he has to use a plan from the Big 3.
facing similar problem
hey guys,
I am facing a similar issue.
I picked up my Nexus S (unlocked) running on 4.03 from UK, but using it now in India.
Baseband version - I9023XXKI1
Kernel version - 3.0.8-ga178ab4
Build number - soju-userdebug 4.0.3 IML69C 235871 test-keys
When I use any SIM here (Airtel/Vodafone), it is getting into Emergency mode. But strangely the GPRS service works. I am able to browse, stream, email etc. I dont understand how GPRS services are working when GSM isnt?
I am unable to use my new phone! Can anyone please shed some light here...
For you guys having issues with not being able to connect to get signal... Since you are using your unlocked Nexus S's on different networks, you should do as a previous poster suggested... Turn on your Roaming on your phone (both voice and data) and see if that helps.
That fixed my problem that I had with my Galaxy Ace, after I unlocked it myself and put in my SIM card, I was getting no signal... After some digging on the Internets, I found that if I turn my Call and Data roaming on it may work... Guess what, it did.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Using Verizon Galaxy Note 3 International

Can someone Please help me figure out why I cannot get service on my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 when I'm traveling or specifically in India. I thought Verizon Note 3 is world unlocked out of the box!!! Am I wrong?
BACKGROUND:
I have successfully flashed my Verizon Note 3 to Boost Mobile so that means I used a Samsung Galaxy Prevail as my donor phone which means I changed the MEID # of my Note3. I have also successfully rooted the phone and have also installed Beanstown106 leaked version of KK 4.4.2 on the Phone with the latest Safestrap and it works fine as far as I can tell. I used the instructions from the following thread to flash my phone to Boost; just FYI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060085
QUESTION:
I try to insert the GSM SIM card for Vodafone carrier and it's unable to connect to network even though I added the correct APN settings. So does this have anything to do with me changing the MEID# on my Note 3, is this why it's not connecting to a network?
I kept getting the error message that "This SIM card is from an unknown source" So I disable the setup wizard 1.0 using nobloat app and it got rid of that message. I'm still unable to connect to a network?
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to fix it or can tell me what the problem is?
Or if there's anyone that has used the Verizon Note 3 overseas successfully that can tell me what I'm doing wrong?
purchase a local SIM from Airtel with a 1GB 3G package and 200 minutes of talktime for about 700 rupees ($10 or so)!!
When adding the new SIM you will see message "Non-Verizon SIM detected" but apart from that voice should work just great. Go into the APN settings the + now active and add in the new APN settings for Airtel. After you do this the internet will start working and you will be able to get H/H+ speeds there.
So yes, Verizon 4G LTE phones are truly unlocked for oversees use and you can just pop in a foreign SIM and go no worries...

Yes it may very well have to do with a IMEI change. I didnt think it was possible to change the imei.

So why would the Airtel SIM work and Vodafone will not? I don't get it they are both GSM carriers so why would one work and other one wont? Even though I fixed the APN settings for the Vodafone SIM.

My mistake, I meant I changed the MEID# not the IMEI.
But apparently you can change the IMEI# of the device as well, allegedly according to the following thread. I never done it myself.

That could easily cause you issues if your carrier can't understand the identification information your phone is providing the tower.
To be safe keep a log of what you have changed that way if it is worse you can know how to go back or what you have played with otherwise as with myself once time passes I completely forget all the details.

Verizon Galaxy S5 video calling and some other network stuff on T-Mobile network

I have a Verizon G900V S5 that I am currently using with a T-Mobile sim card on the T-Mobile network, I can get voice calls text/data etc, but I cant find a way to activate the video calling because its linked to Verizon its currently on android 5.0 and I cant manually update it from the phone either because it says im not on the network, is there any tweaks or roms to fix these? Also whats the best network mode I should be on to get the fastest data right now im just leaving it on "Global" and using T-Mobiles APN and it seems alright

HTC Bolt Mobile Data Issue

Hi, ive been an owner of an HTC bolt for a while now. Recently my island was hit by the famous Hurricane Irma (Puerto Rico, USA Territory). And ever since my mobile data dont want to connect.
Details about the phone:
HTC Bolt (Sprint but is GSM Unlocked and have been using it with H2O Company. Uses At&t Towers.)
Phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted but stock software i believe is the march latest update (1.32.651.6)
The phone was working excellent by that day. Now i had to switch to my spare phone HTC M9 and mobile data works fine here.
Rightnow i still dont have electricity at home. But i was wondering if any of you guys have had this same issue or maybe know why this could happen.
Ive tried resetting network settings, checked the APN multiple times. And no luck. Also i have access to the DM menu where i can see all the network settings when i input the MSL code. But everything seems fine.
Maybe running an RUU on it can fix the problem...
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Willing to bet it is more of a provider issue. Give it some time for them to fix the infrastructure

Thanks for the reply!
I thought of that but in that case my M9 shouldn't be working either. And its perfectly working. Don't know maybe is the LTE band it is trying to connect is bad or something. Because on the M9(Factory Unlocked version) the data is working but not as fast as always.
Oh yeah not really sure sorry.

this thing is driving me crazy. I'm on the line to Customer Service to see if they can find the issue.
But me guessing, does the radio image installed on the phone has anything to do with that? Does that file or part of the ROM could get scrambled and cause this kind of issue??
Update:
They have reset the account, but they say is the phone thats giving me the issue, since the SIM card shows successful connection on another phone. I will try to run the RUU on this and see...
Ok so apparently the issue is on the network. I just tried my sister SIM card from T-Mobile and the phone connects perfectly to internet. So apparently the issue is maybe a technical problem on the network band the carrier is transmitting. And that band isn't available or not accepted on the Bolt cuz is a Sprint variant.
Don't know 100% sure but apparently that's the issue. I checked on the M9 what bands are the phone connecting and according to LTE Discovery App the phone is connecting to band 17 or band 4.
BTW
Is there a way to edit network bands on a phone?
