Got skullcandy head phones working

Like the title says, before I always tried to fully insert the headphones into the female jack that came with my play.
But today when I only plugged semi into it like the attached pic they work great!?
Kinda wondering why this is and if this could potentially harm the phone or headphones.

Yeah they are green/black 50/50 ones. I realize the mic won't work at all like this, but I like being able to use these as original I bought them for my ipod touch a couple weeks before I got my xplay.

I used Super glue to glue the Mic button down and now when you connect it to my phone (No need to put it in half way or anything) it works perfectly, if you don't want to risk it hold the button down while connecting and play some music to be sure, or you could always just use some tape...

Wasn't sure if that would work.
But yeah lol I did it with tape I might take the tape off and use glue later.

On board mics are horrible

Any ideas for a good mid/ear bud combo or a fix for the horrible sound on the other end while using Skype. I'm told its very bad.

I found the mic and speakers are all very bad, also the wifi reception, on my A500. Otherwise, it works, but if I try to use it for skype for example, it's much worse than the HTC Titan II I have, which is a much smaller thing. Even the "tiny" Arrive phone that I have does better on wifi and mic/speaker, only the Arrive doesn't have a front facing camera. I use my A500 to do web browsing, read PDF and watch youtube, while it's not good for youtube because of the weak speakers.

Searched a lot on the web. It seems nobody has found a solution for these awful mics. Hope someone has better news. :banghead:

I found a ear combo with a boom mic 3.5 millimeter from radio shack that works really good and clear.. But Skype will only work with a wired headset not a bluetooth it doesn't support microphone for Bluetooth... only speakers or headphones... lame...

If you pop the back, there are two mics right at the top of the screen (near the sd card). One is visible. The other is behind the motherboard. The one you can see is used for noise cancelation. It even has a hole in the chassis next to it to let sound in. The one you can't see is used for sound pickup and has no adjacent hole to allow sound. What I did was unplug the hidden mic. Tuck the wire and plug under the board. Move the plug for the noise cancelation mic to the receptacle for the main mic and reassemble. It sounds much better to me now. Haven't used Skype on it yet, but it should be better.

Important to note - I recommend removing the sd card any time you remove or install the back cover.
This guy shows a decent tutorial. I basically pulled the sd cover off and started at the plastic there. If you end up with blemishes, at least they'd be under the sd cover.

get a headset bluetooth is nice even those *retro phones* wud work i use 1 for f2f vid chat

I tried a Bluetooth headset..a blue parrot bt2500 I think is what its called..didn't work right..I will try again on the new build.. What Bluetooth headset do you use? Does it work with Skype?

When i use skype or g talk i use a wired head set.. I picked it up at Walmart for 10$. It has 1 head phone and a mic that hangs on the cord by your mouth. Haven't had much luck with bluetooth (hate havin to charge it + out of my $ range) but it should work, google...

[Request] Plantronics Backbeat 903+ MOD - HELP !!

Can someone can help me MOD the Plantronics Backbeat 903+ to have EAR BUDS (in ear),
I applied Quick Fix Glue and attached the SONY ear plugs, working fine, but they often fall off.
Also my ears pain a lot after using for few mins.
So i wanted to pull out wires and attach the ear plugs of my existing Sony Plugs, but the internals seem very complicated with ribbon cabling.
I dont need to have a very good looking Headset. I have this Headset and its flawlessly working, but i find it very incontinent to use it for long time.
So i just want to wear it around my neck and 2 wires going into my ears just like any other in-ear earphones.
It might sound very stupid to do such a thing, :silly: but i cant find any better headset with noise cancellation within this price range.
Can someone help me please ?
All i need is to connect Left and Right ear plugs to my Plantronics 903+ hanging out. :victory:

I was thinking of doing the same mod to my 903+. Can you tell me how is the mod working for you after a few months?

Its working fine. No issues at all. A little uncomfortable at neck, but will get used to it. Make sure u use good ear plugs.

Maybe it would be more comfortable if you removed more clutter. I am hoping to remove the whole swivling part that hold the speaker. I just have to figure out how to avoid cutting the cable that connects the buttons.
I will try to do it at home tonight and let you know how it went.

I did the mod by moving the whole ear bud chip to the inside of the main modules. I carefully pried openened up each main madule and disconnected the ribbon, pulled out the ribbon through the ear bud holders, then reconnected the ribbon to the connector. I cut off the earbud housing using an exacto knife and ran my new earbuds inside to the main module where I soldered them to the old ear bud chip. There was enouch room in each housing to conseal all the components. I used some isolating tape to make sure there is no short cirtuis. Here is the final look. It was a very delicate job no to break anything but I am happy with the final look. So far, I find it comfortable after one day's use.

Thats really looking good and professional. I wish you could have taken some pics of the inside so I might try that.
Does the noise cancellation work good? And how about call quality.

How is your headphone jack?

I want to make sure my unit is not defective. When I plug headphones into the jack, they do not seem snug. They are kind of easy to pull out. They sound fine, but there is a lot of static sometimes. Has anyone noticed that the headphone jack on the S5 seems more loose than previous models? Thanks

got my s5 yesterday and my headphone jack is very sturdy I cant wiggle it even a little with stock headphones plugged in , have to use quite a buit of force to unplug it to , rogers here G900W

I know this is obvious but have you tried a different set of headphones? Mine sit in loosely until the last 2-3mm and then need very positive pressure to push in the last 2mm. Once in they are very tight and do not move at all, they do not come out loosely either. If yours do it on more than one set of headphone I would say it's faulty

Sounds like you aren't plugging your headphones in all the way. There's a definite click when they're in all the way, the static you hear is because the headphones plug is moving around.
Hope this helps.

Like the other guy said make sure you plug it in all the way. The click at the end is the clue.

I was pushing it down all the way. I took my phone to Samsung and they tried other S5's and it was fine. Mine was defective. Mine was extremely loose. I'm glad I acted now, instead of waiting when it might be too late.

Loose fitting-replacement alternative?
Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with this problem. A few months back I tried to clean the headphone Jack on my s5 with a q-tip and one part of the inside gold piece bent outward, so I had to pry it back in with a paper clip so I'd be able to fit headphones in without the arm (or whatever piece it is) obstructing. Now, unless coincidental, my shure se215 headphones are fitting so loose that I can shake the phone hard enough to make the headphones fall out. And yes, I'm firmly pressing on to make sure it's all the way in and I've tried with a few different headphones. I really don't want to replace the headphone Jack and was hoping there was some way to maybe change the case and try to permanently fix a headphone extension onto the case to eliminate this problem. Any ideas or suggestions?!

from your description, it's a fair bet that one of the connectors is bent out of shape. The earphone socket is a sealed unit and therefore unrepairable. The only option is to replace the entire assembly.
As for your idea to permanently fix the earphones to the device.....not really practical unless it's your intention to turn a working phone into a media player....
Too much functionality is lost by having the earphones plugged in all the time.....

I had this problem since I got my S5 over a year ago, I've even sent it off for repair and they found nothing wrong (a load of rubbish) I compare to my friends S5 which is a later batch and his is snug and no static. I believe the issue is the contacts inside are not tight so they are only lightly touching the headphone jack. I managed to completely fix the static issue however by getting a cotton bud and thinning the cotton tip down a little so it fits inside the slot, then dip or spray the tip with Isopropyl alcohol, jam it in the hole as far as it goes and twist it around hard ( you might need to bend the cotton bud in order to twist it as it will be tight. I do this once every few months and it completely prevents the static issue from happening.

I can't stress highly enough that this is not a suitable repair method.
Speaking as someone who is more than familiar with electronics and components and circuitry, it is my informed opinion that this method has the potential to further damage the socket......The fact that so far in your case, this damage hasn't occurred is simply down to luck.
In that socket, there are 4 precision sprung contacts that do not react well to violent cleaning methods. 'Jamming' a cotton wool bud in the socket as far as it will go and twisting it around will (at some point) bend these contacts totally out of shape which will make the socket totally useless.....
Please don't do it, you WILL end up having to replace the socket.....

I must be really lucky. My headphone jack is working just fine; I have been using it for over a year now.

You're one of the majority of unaffected owners though......
It's just a shame that Samsung (along with every other OEM) seems to be unable to get rid of these faults entirely....

The headphone jack looked like it was plugged all the way in, but it wasn't. I gave it a little extra pressure and I could definitely feel a click when it was inserted properly. Thank you.

Fluffs in the audio jack?

Hey guys,
I know it sounds kinda weird but I just want to ask if you are expecting the same "inconvenience" as me.
Are you having problems with fluffs inside your audio jack? Therefore I can't plug in my earphones. I'm just curious because it never happened to be a problem with the phones I got before. Might be my jeans as well[emoji1]

yeah, it's normal like fluffs in your navel.
Try clean a pocket sometimes.

That happened to me about a year ago. I kept my phone upside-down in my pocket and it collected in the headphone jack. I just started carrying it right side up and that fixed it. I liked carrying it upside-down though.

Don't worry about it just use a tooth pick to get the fluff out and it will fixed it no problem

One of my headphones just stopped working and I thought maybe lint was in the Jack again, Nope, my headphones just died. I blame this thread.

Just use the hoover to suck it out

First thing I did was buy some dust covers for the Jack plug and the charger port

Usually I catch it before plugging my headphones in,
if it's too far in, I just suck it out with my mouth.
