Navigation bar and pie control doesn't work at bottom of screen - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like my subject say's. I can only use pie control only if it is set to right gravity. Also I don't think it's a ROM issue cause I also can't use nav bar on twrp. So not sure what to do

I'm not sure what ROM you're using, but normally PIE controls work at the bottom of the screen only when the nav bar is hidden in extended desktop mode.

Paranoid android 3.97 and I know I have full screen enabled but the pie won't show up with the normal swipe up from the bottom, nor can I use the stock navigation bar when not in full screen,

Had the same thing happening on my mothers N4. Been searching and it seems to be a hardware issue. Something got screwed up over time in the digitizer on a lot of N4's lately, and switching ROMs, wiping and so on doesn't work.
Sorry, bro.

Does anyone else have problems with the 'slide finger on status bar to change brightness' not working in cm7?
Thanks

You're not alone. I like that CM7 has that feature, but sometimes it's very buggy I guess. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does.
I have never been able to get this to work, and I have even increased the LCD density to ridiculous levels just to have a larger bar to swipe on.

OK, at least I know it's not just me. I even tried tuning off status bar dead area thinking it might be that.
Any alternatives for changing brightness on the fly?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
yeah, the status bar brightness doesn't really work vary well for me ether. I had to add a brightness toggle power widget to the notification bar. brightness mode at auto / dim / 25% /50% / 75% / 100%
There's a really great app developed specifically for CM7 on the Nook called RecentPlus over in the themes and apps forum. It replaces your long press home with a recent apps dialog that contains recent apps, plus brightness and volume sliders.
Recent plus fits the job rather nicely, thanks for the suggestion.
Wish is defaulted to brightness slider instead of volume, or remembered your last choice... But now I'm nit picking.

Hit the settings button once you're in the app and those options are available

How to use PRIME ROM's PIE control?

Hi guys. I just flashed this new custom ROM. on the setting, interface, what is PIE control? How do i use it? Tq.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Enable it and find out? Or do a super simple Google search that would have taken less time to find out than create this thread.

PIE is basically a fancy set of soft keys. It is activated by touching a trigger area. It is mainly used in place of a navigation bar so that you can use the entire screen.
You are able to adjust the trigger area to the top, either side or bottom.
Nexus 7 Running JellyBam v7
Oic. I get it now. Tq.

You can set up something similar in the AOSP browser (SETTINGS>>LABS>>QUICK CONTROLS)... and with EXPANDED DESKTOP enabled (in CM based ROMs), you have 100% of your screen given over to what is being displayed... so no nav or status bar.
Everything is controlled via the PIE touch selection, usually with your thumb.
I'm not a big fan to be honest... I can see the attraction with a 'phone, where screen 'real estate' is at a premium...
...but on a tablet... ???

Ged.

I was using a custom ROM to move the navigation buttons but last week a few ROMs added swipe Ribbons. Follow this link for a Nexus 10 screen shot with a right hand Ribbon including navigation controls (this is not my screen shot). Ribbons default to auto hide.
With the right custom ROM and swipe Ribbons I always have a full screen with an auto hide navigation bar and notifications. You can just swipe down with one finger to have the notifications display at any time. There are multiple kinds of Ribbons and they are fully configurable (content, position, colors, autohide delay ... etc).
Check in the Developers threads to see which ROMs are supporting swipe Ribbons. I use Buttered +Aroma, follow the link in my signature. I have seen some bugs but for the most part they work well and have already become part of my daily-driver configuration.
My own set up uses a right hand Ribbon for navigation contols and Sidebar for left hand app shortcuts. I had already purchased Sidebar before Ribbons were available.

Is this possible? Nav buttons in notifications tray?

I've seen the apps and edits to remove or replace the navigate buttons (home, back, recent apps) or even move them to the side... But what about moving them entirely to the notifications tray? Is this a bad idea?
For the videos and apps that remove the tray, there could be a hot corner or gesture to bring it back up. Should I have patented this idea before posting?

That's called tablet ui.

Patent it or not, Apple would still steal it.

Tablet UI would bring it to the statusbar. Not the notification area.
To the OP: this would be bad for accessibility. Imagine using an app that requires you to double press back to exit. You would neet to pull down the notification area twice... just to close an app.

Fullscreen app gives you two hot corners, replacing the back/home, but I found I kept accidently hitting the corners within other apps or surfing, no matter whether I put them top or bottom. I ended up using Pie Control app, customised with Nav buttons to solve the problem. LOVE the huge screen via fullscreen.

Wow sorry for my late reply everybody. Thank you for you feedback. I haven't looked at tablet ui but I will. I have installed GMDs auto hide nag buttons. I like it. Sometimes. One thing I do not like is that the menu button for apps like Chrome are automatically moved to the navbar. I know I can turn it off but the menu button is just gone. Not a huge deal but I also don't like how it is sometimes less responsive than the stock navbar. Either way, I'm still shopping.

You should try AOKP rom which you can toggle phablet and tablet UI, I've been using this feature since 4.1.
As for in app menu button, there is in option called "Show menu UI overflow" in the rom to enable it.

Dual-use Navbar Icons

HI, I'm scissors_cut_paper. I have recently taken a disliking to sacrificing my home screen real estate for a dock. I am currently using slimkat, which has the ability to assign a long press function and custom icon to navbar buttons. To that end, I have created some dual use navbar icons, based on stock kitkat, but representing both functions of the navbar key. Now i'm no themer, but paint.net is pretty easy to use. If anyone has good ideas or request I may entertain them, though I would recommend having a play yourself.
To set these keys/icons in slimkat use settings/navigation/navigation bar/buttons.
The current icons I have made are-
Notification pulldown/longpress Quicksettings (Never reach for the top of your screen again)
Back/longpress kill app
Home/longpress application draw
Recents/longpress menu
Filemanager/longpress ?
Download - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/v9sz5sco0bdrue0/f_9QvTcLcT
All credits to slim for implementing the functionality, all i did was make some buttons.
Video of implementing (not everyone will need this, took me a while to figure it out though) http://youtu.be/ist7kSStb9k

any videos on you using it? Im interested...
YouTube link added in OP. Can do a quick video of how to implement (in slimkat, anyway) if anyone needs? Also did some cleanup, changed file explorer icon to better match stock theme.

Slimkat also has navring features for those who don't like docks.

Still trying to figure out what I want to do with my ring.I've got shortcuts set up in the QS, combined with the pulldown button in navbar means they appear right above where your finger already is.
