[Q] Which mod has best voice control? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I moved from Iphone this spring. I am using MDOB now. Samsung Svoice never seems to get my voice commands right; can't find the right contact and totally gets my music voice commands wrong. For example, always thinks I'm asking for "back" when I say "beck"-- the only thing in my library.
Siri was an order of magnitude better at all this. Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung. I tried and get a google dialer popup and it won't control the Samsung music app.
Should I go to Google Edition? Will Google correctly work over bluetooth headset for music and calls? Is it more accurate than Svoice?
Help!

When you refer to "Google is better at general voice recognition, but doesn't work with AT&T/Samsung.", what specifically are you referring to? I use Google Now and it's voice recognition and it works perfectly fine for me? Google Now is integrated in the new Google app. You can also access it from holding the menu haptic button.

Google Now does not control anything. Does not control music, texting, etc. on a Samsung/ATT device.
So my question, and I guess this is the wrong place to ask it since nobody seems to know here, is will AOSP or plain vanilla google ROMs do as good a job as Siri at controlling music via bluetooth headphones, texting, etc. etc.?

Google voice search not working

Google Voice search won't launch android music player. If I use the right command "listen to", it offers music player as a choice but then doesn't pass the query to the player-- I select android music player and it starts playing a random song.
Also, when using a bluetooth earpiece, pushing the call button brings up Google Voice Dialer (and not google search). It doesn't respond to anything I say at that point. How do I get the native Google Voice assistant to come up instead?
I'm running MDOB 1.8.
I just moved from Iphone so it would be great to get these quite basic features to work on my S4...

Why don't you use S-Voice--just asking--it does all I need extremely well
I'm trying to get rid of the bloatware. The S4 is unacceptably slow until you strip the junk out. And I thought Google Voice Assist was much better than Siri-- but it seems to be broken on many phones right now.

Interesting, mine is extremely smooth and fast even before I rooted. I still have not removed any apps. It was a long process to decide to root and flash twrp as things were going very well.
Did you set animations to .5 and check disable hw overlays in development section of settings/more?
As far as S-Voice it is far better than any other voice to text I ever used. Esp when speaking addresses in Maps--
Hope you get it sorted

[WorkAround FIX] Loud! Prompt from Google (Voice) Search & Dialing over Bluetooth.
I have a Maxx, 444 & this no longer responds to the BT activation button.
This works on 444: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/themes-apps/dragon-mobile-assistant-alternative-to-t2857730
I got an X DE & now on Eclipse ROM there is consistent volume!
Disable Google Search from settings>app>all apps.
Install the attached apk. You must launch it one time to get it to listen your headset.
I use a Jawbone ERA 'streak 2 (the tiny one).
So much for the full set of Voice controlled accoutrements.
Seems no more soak tests are done by Motorola/Google.
Does Mo-'toro-la browse XDA?
Uhh isn't this the same as installing the "Voice Search" APK from the Play store?
What functionality do we lose by using this instead of Google Search?
Would you rather lose additional features or deal with a lower BT volume?

I have no choice, the BT tone is that loud. But I have not had the time to determine the losses. I guess I have voice dialing only.
Others on voice search jump in!
Edit yes play version of moto is same.

[Q] Android Wear: Temporarily disabling Voice Actions/Voice. Is it possible?

I've had my Gear Live for a couple of days now, and it works great I love it. The only exception is when I'm doing my work outs. When I'm out running I use wired head phones (no built-in mic) and listed to music through the Google Play Music app. What I find really annoying is that during my runs my music pauses because my Gear Live constantly activates the Voice Actions/Voice Search function. "It thinks I'm saying "OK Google."" So in the end, I find myself turning off the watch instead of looking down at it every couple seconds to dismiss the Voice Actions screen. So my question is, does anyone know how to temporarily turn off the Voice Actions/Voice Search functions in Android Wear?

This has also already been answered. Simply "mute" the watch, this will deactivate the wrist gesture to light up the screen and therefore also deactivate the listening for "ok google". The search function is your friend.
Thanks

Thanks, much appreciated. I did not realize it was as simple as that.

[Q] Disable Android Wear Voice Recognition

I newly have a Moto 360 and I don't like that a) anybody shouting 'Ok, Google' next to my watch will enable voice listening, and b) that music playback stops once voice listening starts, e.g. when accidentally tapping the watchface.
Is there a way to just disable voice commands and let the watch just use tapping, swiping, and all this?
Yes this is a annoying behavior. If you put the wear device in flight mode nothing else will work. Even the time display will be wrong after some time. Because I didn't found a solution I've coded myself a little app which mutes the microphone, and disables the speech recognition:
Ups, Im not allowd to post a link. Simply search the play store for "mute wear mic"
have fun

Sorry that I answer late.
I would see it the same way as the person in the single review on Google Play — I would not trust this app, I would not even install it.
In the last time I'm more and more looking for Open Source software.
I really want to know what an app does.
So, as your app is not even a paid app, and a very small one, grab some non-copy license and post your source code, then I'll happily try your app.

Google Assistant

Has anyone received the Google Assistant update yet? It was suppose to role out yesterday. Just wondering since the default for this phone is Moto assistant if we will get it or not.
Love the Nougat update

I installed the "Play Services Info" app by weberdo and used it to download Google Play Services version 10.2.99 (440-148249840) from APK Mirror. After a couple of reboots and disabling Moto Voice, Google Assistant became active. I had to touch the microphone icon, and after a couple of tries, it went into "configure" mode and learned my voice. Now working fine.

Didn't work for me. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait.

Interestingly, for me, even while running on play services 10.2.98, I had all the assistant settings in the google app, and even paired it with my smartthings account, but alas, voice search is still going to the old style search. Updated to 10.2.99 and still seeing the same behavior. I didn't even know we were getting assistant, and was quite excited when I saw the settings, so when it didn't work, of course I got unreasonably upset. oh well

Alright, I let it sit for a couple hours, and it's working now. Though, still can't launch it from the microphone button in the google app or the google search bars on the home screens. That still launches the old voice search. Have to long touch the home button or use the "ok google" launch phrase. It's a shame it can't use the always-on mic from moto voice though.
I'm seeing some similar things. Google Assistant came down to my phone automatically. Set up the OK Google voice command. Seems to work fine when launching from the mic button on the assistant, but will not respond to always on mic when the phone is idle.
You do have to disable Moto Voice, or change the voice phrase to something other than OK Google. Phone still responds to Moto Voice command on idle, but not OK Google.
Yea, so unless there's a software update for Moto Voice, we're likely not going to get the always-on mic to work with assistant. There's a dedicated processor on the SoC that handles the always-on mic, and it's tied directly to Moto Voice. Moto voice really doesn't do a whole lot other than listen for the launch phrase. Everything after that point is basically handed off to Google Voice search. It really should be quite a easy fix (pass the requests onto assistant instead of voice search), but I doubt that will happen.

I woke up this morning and I finally got the assistant. just an FYI
I got it too. However, while it unlocks the phone when locked and the screen being on, it will not wake the phone when saying ok google. You hear the sound prompt that it heard you, but nothing ever follows up and the screen stays black
