Are you rooted with a custom ROM? Stock? Which Android version? Need a little more info.
In general, slowness can be caused by many factors, but in my experience, most slowness comes from having too many apps running, taking up precious CPU cycles. If you're comfortable with the command line, run the "top" command to see what's taking up CPU.
Example: top -n 1 | head -15
The third column is how much the app is using CPU.
If you're not comfortable with the command line, then find an app that will list CPU %. I found this, never used it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.francisn.top
Or, factory reset your N10 and install the game that you had problems with to see if it runs fine. If it does, add apps back until you find the app that's slowing the game.

About the lag problem

I seriously haven't encountered any severe lag problems on all the firmware versions I tried. Also, comparissons with a SonyEricsson XPeria X10 doesn't reveal any problems for my Galaxy S in this regard.
This is not to say that I want to refute the observations done by other Galaxy S owners. I only want to get some more insight in this, so I can prevent my device of getting the same problems.
My question is, is there a sort of invariant between the devices that have a lag problem? Do people with the lag problem have many applications installed (I for one have just a few additional apps on my device), do you have really large databases on your devices?
Maybe we can do a poll about this? Just to get some insight? Suggestions?
The lag is gone with new firmwares (JM5,JG8) for me, but there is still some delay on opening and launching apps (compared to my previos Desire).
First we need to specify what do people mean by LAG.

That's a good one. I think, by the way ppl using this term, they mean what you are saying: a delay on launching apps and maybe when opening a window in a app (like for example the bookmark window in the browser)
Maybe a poll can also lead to some guidelines for developers (for example use files instead of databases?)
I never had any lag issues until I installed loads of widgets on the home screen, I have a custom clock, battery monitor, Internal and SD card space widget, and it lags like mad at times. I am 100% confident that if I removed them the lag would vanish again.

Interesting, I will monitor that. I generally don't have much widgets installed on my desktop.
Hope we can come up with some "best practices" to prevent the Galaxy S lag problem.

Lol ... now that's an unexpected contribution to this thread. I think you're violating at least 3 forum rules.
The only lag i get is when downloading something from the market. Then the Phone almost stopps responding to inputs. Takes a lot of time until the app is installed. Even worse if i install up to +5 apps at the same time. But it´s the only scenario where its lagging. Widgets i do not have from the market, only the pre-installed. Haven´t found any nice and usefull widget for the moment. And apps.... well 9 pages full of apps And no lags.
The lag is blatantly evident when pressing the Application-Home switcher and then trying to flip through the three pages of apps. The problem lies partly with TouchWiz, which is a crap interface to begin with, but mostly with the file system that Samsung uses.
When both have stock firmware, my HTC Desire shows less lag than the Galaxy S in daily use. however once the lagfix is applied to the Galaxy S, it blows everything else out of the water.
And the Xperia X10 is an abomination unless they've significantly improved the firmware from a month ago. Played around with one of those about a month and a half ago and it was horrendous.
Either way, this has been and continues to be discussed in countless other threads in both General and Android Development. Yet another thread is really unnecessary.
Lag for me is when there is an incoming phone call and the phone wake up but wouldn't respond to touches and made me miss my call.
Or when during phone call I try to search for contacts by pressing the home screen and the phone freezes.
Mind you it doesn't happend that often but when it does it is annoying.

that's a good idea
we should list all the "lag"
and define if they are really lag, or if it's a software issue
Rather aptly, I had not used the music player since I customised my SGS with all the widgets, and holy cow, the music player was stuttering when playing music. It was like listening to a .rm music file over dial-up internet again. I turned all my flashy widgets off, and lo and behold, the phone is lag free again and the music flows uninterupted.
disable the music scan
that is the first step to reduce lag
The scan wasn't running at the time if you mean the lag I was getting in the music player. But regardless, I confirmed my own suspicion that all those pretty widgets we all love was causing the lag on my phone.

You can find it in the development section of this forum. Someone posted a tip there.

step by step psx4droid how i got it working

How I got psx4droid working on my htc desire hd..
I know there are already guides for this but I found them a bit confusing, so heres how I done/do it.
1. download psx4droid from market
2. download rombuddy from market
3. download astro from market
4. in astro create a folder called “..playstaytion games” in sdcard (I put the two dots in front to put it to the top of the list so it makes it easier to find later)
5. on your pc search the interwebnet for scph1001.bin, download this file and save it to the dektop so its also easy to find.
6. Connect your phone to your pc and save the scph1001.bin file to sdcard/psxoid (cant remember if I created this folder or if it came with the psx4droid app, if its not there then create the folder using astro in sdcard)
7. go into psx4droid app and make the scph1001.bin file your bios.
8. use rombuddy (with wifi) to download one of the many games listed, eg “driver-you are the wheel man”, click download (this takes about 20 mins so be patient) ive also found some games havnt worked.
9. Once its downloaded use astro and go to sdcard/roms/psx- there you will find your new game (one is a brown box which Is zipped and one is a white rectangle which is unzipped and ready to go)
10. press and hold the unzipped file, click edit then move. (these dont have to be moved but i do it to keep them together) you can also delete the zipped (brown box) file as it is no longer needed.
11. Now go back to your ..playstation games folder, open it, press menu, edit, paste.
12. Now your game should be ready to play, all you do to play is open astro find the ..playstation games folder click your game then click psx4droid in the pop-up menu and play.
hope this helps, like i said im a novice so might have missed bits or done things backwards but it works for me.
thanks
A fine post. Thanks for sharing with us fellow XDA members who've dreamed about psx4droid but haven't actually got round to trying it out, this eases it for me
I had no problems installing psxdroid, but it runs with a low framerate, at least RE nemesis on my dhd..

Agreed but it seems to run smoother on other android devices over the DHD, get a steady 30+ FPS but the picture still seems to stutter.
I managed to install the whole thing by downloading the files via the web browser on the phone, so you can cancel out the connecting it to PC part of the tutorial .
Good job putting up a guide however, I'm sure it will help someone along the way!

yeah i suppose downloading the bios file via phone rether than pc would make no difference but thats just how i done it.
ive found that tony hawks pro skater 4 isnt too bad to play but dave mirra bmx and street fighter have been very slow. any tips for speeding them up?
thanks
I got some extra FPS by playing with the settings such as frame skip, disabling sound and refresh rate on high usage games such as MGS and FF7.
Sigh...I miss the days of FPSECE on the HD2...oh well, i'm sure the DHD should be able to work faster, my HD2 used to get a steady 60fps on Spyro 3 without any stuttering...it was heaven I tell you! Overclocking the Desire HD to 1.3ghz while playing should help quite a bit. I don't know what else, though. Unless killing background processes, and the like. I don't understand how the HD2 could outperform the DHD...unless it's bad software code optimisation and the OS causing performance issues...
It helps, when setting max refreshrate to 30 or 40 fps, when games stutter.
Why its so slow? dunno, bad coding i think!
it work well on my DHD
Desire HD problems
All games seem to run slow on my DHD. The fps is usually around 50-60 but it just seems to run so sluggishly, it makes all games unplayable. I have tried messing around with the various different settings and killing every program but PSX4droid but it seems not have no effect on the performance. Has anyone got any solution at all?
Thanks,

Camera lag and other problems

running aosp cm right now and everytime I press the button to take a picture theres like a 3-5 second lag after pressing it. is this normal? Does not happen with video.
another problem I had was that I had a problem with my car making a wierd noise, so I decided to take a video with my hero so I could upload it on youtube for my friend hear the noise. The video plays great on the phone...when I upload it directly to youtube it gets fuzzy and distortioned and the sound is whack. I transferred the video to my pc and it plays fine problem is when I upload it to youtube
had a similar issue the other day when I recorded something and when I started playing it on the phone it looked fuzzy like I stated above.
could this p0roblem be caused by an SD booster app I have installed? its set to 2048kb I believe.
and the gallery app is really laggy for me so I downloaded quickpic from the market...when I look at some pictures they look low quality compared to the gallery app.
I'd appreciate some input on this if anyone has had a similar problem
other than that my phone has been rock solid! Thanks guys
Edit this is the video I shot...clearly not the noise my car is making....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGpE85MF28s
sorry don't know how to put an embed code on here for the video :/
the 'stock' camera app is less than desirable. From what I've heard, this is the truth with just about all android phones, for various reasons. I also experience the lag you speak of, but not with the MIUI camera app that's listed in the 'heroc apps and themes' forum (i posted it for you in the other thread)
as far as videos/youtube, you might want to run the video file through a codec converter to clean it up. if i remember correctly youtube likes certain file types better than others.
Keep in mind this phone is running an ARM6 processor. custom ROMs improve usage, but only when configured properly, and even then it's still like running windows 7 on a single core processor with 512RAM. You might want to try tinkering with overclocking at this point... just do a nandroid backup in clockwork beforehand, and you'll be able to revert changes back to a working config if you get bootlooped.
got the nandroid setup, what settings do you recomend for cpu usage?
Set the ' set on boot' setting to off, set on demand for governor.
Start with 392 low 691 high, and putz around the phone opening a bunch of apps, just generally trying to max out cpu usage. If that doesn't crash the phone (though you will eventually see performance degradation) then that setting is safe. push the low cpu setting down / high setting up
A single notch, repeat. Keep doing this until 176\729. If that setting works, set it to set at boot.
you can try pushing for the higher ones, but probably best not to use 19 for the low just stick to 176.

Well turns out the aac compressor on my car is bad :/
Back on topic, ill be sure to check it out later when i get home.

There are a bunch of third party camera apps in the market that should fix the lag problem ... had to use it for one of the sensible salsa builds, fixed the issue for me.

[Poll] Which bug/issue do you wish to get fix in the next official update?

For my experience of coming from ICS to this new official JB release I9300XXDLJ4 BTU.
I liked to see this phone being up-to-date on latest OS and getting better performance (Keep the good work up, Samsung!), but there are still bugs and issue that are found in this rom.
Which bug/issue annoy you the most? and wish to get fix in the next update by Samsung?
1) Lag on opening Contact and Dialer - It is more noticeable in JB, since all other apps open faster but not these two which should get speed up or keep in memory.
2) Multi-task with games and apps - when open 1 game and then play another game at the same time it will close and reload the 1st game from the beginning no matter how many free memory you have. Not cool at all. [Fix: bestMultiTaskingFix 5 by mattiadj read this]
3) Wake up from home button problem - On screen turned off, when press the home button instead of going back to your active apps you use before screen off, it go to home screen. This is very annoying and it affect everyday use. [Fix: No wipe need. Go to Application List -> S-Voice ->Settings -> Keep "Open via the home key" ticked. ]
4) Slow wifi problem - The wifi speed is found to be slower in JB compared to ICS.
5) Gallery full screen problem - There is a black bar on top of Gallery's photo in full screen mode.
6) Battery drain - Some user have report battery drain on JB. It could be likely that it need a full charge after flash to get correct battery level. Some user report flash + full wipe could solve it. I will spend a few more days on test.

Please post any issue you have experienced or workaround you have found useful on JB rom.
My findings with all this
1) I don't notice
2) I loaded up dead trigger & riptide gp, both restart from the point I left them. No idea what I'm doing differently.
3) Not affected by that
4) See 3
5) I don't think it's a bug, maybe a feature of the gallery
Definitely multitasking...

None of those. I would like copy and paste to understand the gaps inbetween sentences and paragraphs ideally don't need removing when copying large bodies of text. It was the same in ICS and I can't believe it's the same with stock JB.

Can you explain more what problem you have on battery drain? I only have used a few days.
What battery drain? No problems here...
This thread is making me yawn...
Thanks for quoting me! Glad to see that people are taking these problems seriously!
I recently wiped my phone in order to test whether that made a difference. None, unfortunately! I'm a heavy phone user and I notice the little things. I have seen people here saying that multitasking works. YES, it does but with apps!!! Apps resume their state, most games do not! The same games used to resume their state on ICS but they don't on Jellybean. Also, Android System keeps consuming a LOT of my battery. I've got the same setup and the same games/apps on JB as I had on ICS. There's a huge difference! It's quite annoying.
Another thing they need to fix is they need to give the Video Player its own brightness controls. I know that the system controls are just a swipe away but why take away a good feature, Samsung?

It feel that it need to list all the bugs here, this help people finding/raising the solution of the same problem. One day, it could be all solved.
For the battery drain, I am waiting for more of battery stats.
Brightness controls on video player could well be another motion as an option. That would be a good feature to show off.

[Q] Some questions about G2!

Hi everyone. I want to ask some questions about G2 software since I am interested in getting one. Please be aware that I have a nexus 4 currently and already owned a galaxy s3 and htc sensation before so my questions might be slightly related or inspired from those.
1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
That's all folks!
Thank you guys!

1. no - faster then nexus 4
2.no
3.Smotthest phone ever on the market, also fastest
4.Faster than nexus 4
5. it depends which keyboard you use
6.doesn't lag, but it's a little bit slower (1/2 a second) than rest of the phone a second, you can install third party dialers like me
7.No lag ever!!!!
8.You can swipe
9.You can swipe or make settings like pure android (just scroll down through settings)
10.Anwserd 9
11.yes
12.yes (i have it
13.when bought around 1200mb, now on reboot 900mb..lots of apps installed), there is no problem with ram, android manages it great
14.right now i have 650mb free, facebook, kaiten mail, browser open...
15.never had it lagging before, so don't know if this phone will know any lag ever...
16.Didn,t play any havy games, but when browsing, watching movies, heavy multitasking,no problems with heat ever. stays cool.
17.not yet
18. it's not bad for me, you have already a fix on xda.
Conclusion; fastest phone, best screen, best battery, best SoC, super usefull apps, zero lag phone on the market (excluding note 3, which is a phablet)
Sorry I'm out of thanks now. Will do it tomorrow
Thanks a lot man! This is really assuring!
1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
I have 6 pages, two of which are widgets, Ive noticed no lag at all.
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
I haven't seen it myself.
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
I've run stock, cleanrom, and cyanogen on this. Stock is a little ram hungry, but as far as stock goes, it's butter smooth.
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
G2 is a beast, opening apps is instant for me.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
I'm looking at them now, yes.
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
I can't say that I could tell, I only have 60 contacts.
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
If you first start the app there is a .5 second jitter, but its smooth after.
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
Yep, you can swipe.
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
I use list mode.
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
Settings app has a setting for this.
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
Yep, I saw a reference to it in settings.
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
I never tried, but I had no issues with custom widgets yet.
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
Probably the worst thing about this phone, Verizon had cluttered it bad, and the stock is a bit ram hungry, ~700mb was used.
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
I'm running Cyanogen now, mine is significantly lower, but I'd guess ~400
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
I've never gotten low on ram, but I doubt it.
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
Its cool to the touch for me.
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
I wouldn't know, I'm using cyanogen now.
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
Better than my friend's iPhone 5S. Quality is great.
Hope this helps you, I'm loving the G2

Thanks bro for your awesome reply!
Thanks to you helpful people. As much as I like to help out, that was above and beyond what I'm capable of on most days. This community is turning out to be pretty good.
-I haven't got recent bug but I have different. I keep apps in 6-7 folders. But when I restart device 2-3 apps in folders change order and folders (3G watchdog and booking). Does it only happen in my device?
-Is there any way to disable lockscreen help?
-Is there any way do enable radio without rooting device (my device has hardware support but it is disabled in my country firmware)?
