Call Recording - Galaxy S III General

Hi to all.
I like to know something for my general knowledge:
When I used omega rom, I succeed to recording hi-fi (with the built recording) calls without using the speaker of my S3 .
Now I use rootbox and every 3rd apps that I use (and I used a lot) says that my phone does not support recording from the line, just from the speaker.
So I get crappy quality of recording.
What the different between Call Recording that built in roms to Call Recording apps, that make so different quality between the two?
There is any call recording mods for CM/AOKP that similar to the mods for samsung roms?
Thank you very much for Shares your knowledge.

I don't know the answer to your question. I've always used "call recorder" by skvalex and it works great but it needs the ALSA mixer installing on aosp on the s3.
Unfortunately its expensive now. It was cheaper when I bought it.
I'd buy it again. There may be a trial version.
I've never used built in ones. I've only ever used this

Thanks again for your replay.
I checked "call recorder" by skvalex , and he write on the description that the phone need to support recording from the line, and if its not:
"...the recording will most likely proceed from the microphone, not from the line.".
S3 does not support recording from the line, so its likely that I still get a crappy quality of recording, unless you tell me that you succeed to recording hi-fi calls without using the speaker, when you combine "call recorder" by skvalex and "ALSA" mixer.

The settings don't tell me what its doing.
I can't really comment on what you call crappy. Its sufficient for my needs. If you find a trial, try it.

Galaxy S III Video audio quality is awful???

I haven't seen a single video in youtube , neither front / rear camera with anything but a horrendous sound , comment / attach please
No attachment but I can confirm that in my experience the audio output is below standard. Tinny and shallow sounding. I'm sure this can be improved in the future but as it stands its poor.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
its not the only flagship with awful audio but whats the chance for software fix in the fairly unknown future
It's important to have the equipment to have a valid opinion.

im never gonna pay 500 euro for something thats more horrid than my 100 euro canon camera , neverminding the awful sounding Htc One X aswell , can anyone test if its software problem or hardware mic limitation?Specifications for audio @ video recording are not met by any clip uploaded in internet so far
"Galaxy S III Video audio quality is awful???" - YES - hardware probably
if you guys tell us what are the standards for measuring audio quality then we can for sure tell you whether audio quality is good or not.
Not sure if serious. The GSIII has Wolfson DAC hardware, which is known for above average sound, especially when supercurio gets done with it.

No we are talking about audio capture. Not playback. It seems like the sgs3 has a very bad mic. There is a few threads about this already.
My thoughts..
I've run a little test and put it together in a video. My conclusion is that it is NOT the microphone quality it is in fact some kind of software issue, so it should be able to be addressed in the future.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up8N2aMhJ6U
there's my video, you can tell the audio quality with the voice recorder program is a lot better than the video recorded quality. there's a few threads on this, no fixes as of yet, but i wanted to show I feel it isn't the hardware. so don't loose hope!
seems that this is fixed in the US version, hopefully samsung will fix it in the international version too.

Yeah.. it seems like you keep referring to the Speaker Audio.. you did this in the other thread as well.. they're talking about the Audio Playback when you record videos for the International Quad-core version. Seems like the U.S. Version has good quality
FYI .. the sound issues seem to be fixed for the US when recording videos.. i just recorded this. Hopefully the international one can be corrected as well. Let me know if it's cool

Same thing on the very early firmwares of the sgs1 which had a similar wolfson sound chip. Good to see Samsung are addressing software issues straight away these days.

Agree.
It will be fixed very soon in Voodoo Sound.
And I already informed my Samsung contacts about it.
those are great news, can`t wait for the fix.Do you think that you can make the audio recording in videos to be at least as in US version or even better?

Audio capture in loud environment, Horrible!

The SIII for U.S variants has the S4 DAC. I recorded a video in an indoor concert/club recently and the audio quality sucks! There is too much bass in the audio making it crack/distort beyond! Is there any type of way to reduce mic gain? Has anyone tried recording with the headset plugged in? I heard that reduces the bass level a bit...
Voodoo will come to the SIII, but I hope it will come to the U.S models since it doesn't have Wolfson.
Try the LGcamera app, it's got a video recording feature that allows you to decide which microphone(s) and bit rates you want to use. Experiment with it

Do I set the mic to microphone, default or camcorder? They all sound the same. Haven't tested in loud environment though...

Have you ever recorded audio in a loud club/concert which did NOT have clipping and distortion? If so, I'd love to know what device it was.
A bit off topic of your use case, but I've always been of the opinion that shows are loud to prevent piracy of the show, because being up front it's more than loud enough to damage your hearing.

iPhone can handle loud environments without issue.
The Galaxy SII also had this same problem, there was either none, or very bad automatic gain control. All loud audio was recorded very distorted. I'd love to find a fix for this!

This is an Android problem, not a Samsung one. Basically the hardware drivers are extremely primitive. I am a musician and therefore look for audio apps all the time, and there just aren't any because Android's audio is just too primitive. There is NO way to adjust the gain down, only up. If you don't believe me, Google audio gain and Android and you'll find a lot of stuff. Latency is a also huge issue, and that's why apps like Songify don't exist.
I wanted to record my band practices with my phone too. It's impossible. I use an iPod touch with an I rig mike instead.
It's really a shame Google just doesn't care about audio, ICS fixed nothing.

Poor mic recording quality

I've found the audio recording on the stock video recorder to be pretty low quality and heavily compressed. Is there a way to change this within the recorder app itself? Or it hardware and not software causing the problem? Also, I notice that the sound comes out stereo, but most of the audio plays inconsistently from only one speaker.
You can see [hear] what I mean HERE.
PS: this is totally not a plug . It's just the kind of thing I'd like to record on my phone once in a while and I'd be disappointed if I couldn't find a way to improve the quality.
It plays from one speaker cause it has only one speaker....Except if you mean outside of the phone. You cannot change it from the app its fixed.

Thanks for your reply. I did mean outside the phone. Using headphones or playing the video on another device yields weird stereo issues. I am aware that the two grills at the bottom are for the speaker and microphone.
Might you know of a decent video recorder app that would have better audio quality?

Try Hi Q Mp3 recorder. I have the pay version and it works fine for recording your voice etc. In the options I chose rear mic and it seemed better to me. I did notice that if you are recording voices in the background and not directly in front of the mic that the recording comes out very choppy though. On my old Nexus it was perfectly clear so not sure if that is the noise cancellation messing it up.

I may have found the solution; I forgot that I had Jishnu Sur's camera mod installed (2.5.3). When I reflashed with a freshly downloaded zip, the issues seem to have gone away. I'll keep using it and see if that fixed it for good.

How to record calls?

Hi
Tried ACR trial on my note4 and works great but does not seem to work on S7. Do you happen to know a call recording software that works well on the S7 Edge?
Thx

Second Skyvalex! Been using it for a long time now, great app! However on my currently un-rooted S7E the recording is full of echoes but I have only tried the standard API method so far.
Thx for the prompt reply guys, appreciated!

If you're rooted you can activate the native call recorder by adding this line in /system/csc/others.xml (before </FeatureSet> at the end of the file)
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
It is true you can activate native recording however you have no control over it really. Skyvalex has a myriad of options etc.... the best I have come across as well as cloud support etc...

Record yourside using your microphone, the other party shall do the same also! Microphone recording can be very accurate if you use a rooted phone. As far as I know, it's not all about API dependent.

yep, what I meant is that on some phones, where call recording is disabled in software/hardware, you are still able to record a call using some programs, but you almost not hear the person you speak with, because only thing phone records is source from phone microphone.
So when you play recording you hear only yourself and sometimes if it was quite in the room - the other side very silent, impossible to understand what is talking about.
So my question is - is call recording useful and easy to hear/understand everything what was recorded?

You said rooted phones offers more, but if I"m right - there is already root available for S7 (and Edge).

Also, is there an option in this JIT Call recorder to directly save the recordings in the external sd card?

Automatic Call Recorder, was working fine with bi-directional recording, until I update my phone.
Trying this app, but it's challenging. Although it works, it takes forever to open with root enabled.
so I have to set it up, and disable SU for it whenever I want to playback.
