UK HTC Repair-Reported 10/06-Now Resolved. Thanks for all the fish - One (M7) General

Hi All,
for anyone thinking of purchasing one of these device I think you may wish to consider the following. I have been waiting for HTC repair to fix a manufacturers defect since 10th July. They now appear to have lost my phone. As follows:
- 10th July - reported a crack around the device. HTC advised that they would need to escalate the issue on ow to handle the case.
- 7th August - (1 month after reporting the problem) HTC made arrangement to pick up the device for repair.
- 16th August - received my HTC One. The cracks were still present + the glass was not fitted correctly.
- 20th August - send off for second repair
Today it becomes apparent that HTC have lost my device. They say it was repaired, and sent to UPS, who do not acknowledge receipt of it.
Unfortunately HTC are now going to investigate. I have requested a replacement handset many times from them, but they insist they get three attempts at the repair. Given previous experience this is likely to take weeks. Again I requested a replacement device today, but no. They insist the suffering must continue until HTC, putting itself first at the expense of its customers, has executed it processes and procedures.
I have been a HTC fan since the htc desire. I am very sad to say that I would not recommend the HTC One, because they are poorly manufactured, as per my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2408050
In addition to this, I will never buy a HTC device again because of the appalling service. Even if my HTC One turns up tomorrow, and it is perfect, I will be returning it to ee. This is purely because I have learnt that you cannot rely on HTC to repair their device in a reasonable way.
I can only hope that some one from HTC reads this, and decides to investigate, because they dont like the poor publicity. I doubt it though. My experience is that they are expert in saying sorry for poor service, but its only talk.
One last point, which I think others may benefit from. The effort that I have had to go through with HTC to get as far as I have is huge. A truly high maintenance experience.
Buy a HTC device at your peril!!!
UPDATE
This matter is now closed (well almost) with HTC as far as I am concerned. I had to shout very loud to get noticed, and it took much time, effort and persistence. As you can read in the remainder of this thread, my HTC experience, this time, was far from good.
However, when I was heard, they listened very carefully, and are acting. HTC have convinced me that they genuinely do care about every single customer experience, and they do read threads such as this, and are prepared to act. They are prepared to change anything and everything to improve.
I have worked with global telecoms businesses for most of my working life (30+ years) all over the world, and I can honestly say that I have never experienced such genuine commitment to improve and resolve issues.
I don't suppose that everything will be transformed overnight, but I know that they have real commitment and desire to excel. Its obvious, they have to. Look at their competitors.
I have but one remaining item of business with regards this experience, and its not with HTC, but my network. I had to do the legwork that they should have done on my behalf. Hopefully I wont have to author another thread etc to resolve this matter.
Now I love HTC again.
HTC - Heres to change, Im sure you will be champions of it. Samsung watch out. You may be huge but YOU are up against a formidable competitor.

That's what you should have done in the first place; let EE deal with the hassle.

Hi Yes you are correct, however I was advised by ee in store to return it to HTC as they would be doing that, rather than repair it themselves because it was due to physical manufacture defect.

And therein lies the problem. You should've insisted that EE handled the repair because they were the original retailer, and therefore it is their statutory duty to make good on the repair and/or replace. I would still go back to EE and claim that since it has been nearly two months since you reported the initial fault, and that you have now been without a phone for 3 weeks, they should replace your device because it is unable to be repaired in a satisfactory time scale and that this is a breach of your statutory rights. Don't take no for an answer, and throw section 48B of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 in their faces.

thank you. Very useful.

HTC have now re located my device, after a call from ee to them. I will now receive a perfectly repaired device back from htc next Tuesday (hopefully) else I'll be going around the houses yet again. If all is OK on Tuesday it will be 69 calendar days since I first reported the problem to HTC. Customer service excellence eh...

I would say that basically every phone company's warranty service is pretty garbage.
Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes it just sucks.

3rd HTC repair attempt, but they want me to pay
Hi,
Had some new info from htc today. They lost my phone last week and have now decided that they want to charge me for another repair?!? This is without me even having the phone returned to me after the last repair attempt (2nd repair attempt, again under under warranty).
I can only assume that they caused yet more damage with their 2nd repair attempt, and they want me to pay for it.
I spoke to EE this morning who have raised this as an issue with OFCOM now. The last commitment from HTC (to both me and EE) was that they would return the repaired phone to me for 3/9/13. This was on Friday. I also tweeted HTC over the weekend and they committed to escalating the case (again).
I also want to say thanks to EE for their help in this matter, escalating it to OFCOM themselves.

A minor update. HTC tweeted me again after another day on the phone with ee, htc uk, and htc tweeters, As follows:
- HTC uk have now decided (with ee's help again) not to charge me and have advised that my repair is complete and MAY be with me today, despite using UPS standard. UPS have not received the device yet so I will not be receiving the device today as promised under this courier arrangement. I am now exactly where I was 1 week ago with HTC.
I was tweeted again by htc to ask what my ticket number is, so I provided this (as I did on Saturday when they requested it). I tweeted them to 121 courier it to me today.
HTC UK customer service have agreed to email me in the morning to update me on the UPS standard delivery and have refused to courier it to me by any other method because no managers are available to arrange this. Maybe , just maybe, today will be the day my HTC One is returned without defect. I also tweeted that I want a written letter of apology, compensation and a fault free htc one today.
EE have been absolutely brilliant today and have really given me excellent support. thank you Gareth and team for your support.

HTC customer service sucks donkey balls

Don't tell me.... said manufacturing defect is the much lauded gap in the "gapless" technology phone?
Seriously if the phone was less than 28 days old, I would of returned it to EE for a replacement on the spot, although I wouldn't of bothered as every phone in the world has issues, as they aren't Rolls Royce or Rolex's.

I didnt bother for a month after receiving but the crack got worse. The real problem is not the crack. The crack is caused by the front of the device not being squarely attached to the rear, which causes an over/underhang at the top/bottom. I recommend you check yours and return if you can feel this with your fingernail, else yours may crack also. Also check to see if the glass is fitted evenly (see pics). I think this is also caused by the poor front/back fitting as it stops the glass from fitting correctly. If you have your phone on contract I agree (with hindsight) that you should return to your network provider for repair. Going to HTC (UK) has been a disaster. My network (EE) have been brilliant "motivating" HTC to repair the device. Any how the phone is now repaired and, supposedly, on its way to me. I have but one remaining item of business with HTC (UK) which is delivery. They promised to get it to me today, but are using ups standard which wont deliver that result. Yesterday I asked them to escalate this issue and make arrangement for a person to person delivery today. Still waiting for feedback from my escalation, but yesterday they advised that no-one in HTC (UK) has the authority to do this!! I think this actually means they cant be bothered, even after taking 70 days to fix a problem. Hopeless.
I tweeted HTC yesterday and they are looking into my case. They also said they would do this on Saturday however with no apparent results or updates from them. More lip service I think. Still I'll do the silly HTC repair dance for as long as it takes, and cause as much pain and shame as is necessary to do it.

Sorry, but I had the same issue on my One. It didn't get worse or bother me at all. You could of just lived with it and not got so OCD and about.

Look at the pics. If u think thats acceptable then fine, but I am not you. The device was in the process of falling to bits. In my case it did get worse as you can see. You may think that Im OCD, but the law states that the device should be free from defect, and I am thankful of it. Thank you for the valuable contribution to this thread.

The gapless tech does not cover the speaker area. This has been said many times, even HTC has said it in one of their blogs.

Oh dear, oh dear
Hi,
got the phone back today, and the gap is back but is now full of a glue. This was actually fixed after the first repair but its back. There is also additional damage in the form of a chunk out of the corner, and an additional gap at the side of the device. The glass problem is yet to be fixed as is the over/underhang, and theres lots of excess glue around the device.
Lucky I got before and after photos at repair cycle. Repair not accepted. No more HTC repairs for me I think.
I made much noise on twitter, and now have a publicly made personal commitment from a HTC senior exec to help with the matter (Twitter is marvelous in these circumstances). I await his response. I am somewhat relieved at this as it does show, at least at the top, that they do care.
So there's good, and there's bad in this update, so unfortunately its still a thumbs down from me. as my problem is still not resolved 71 days after I first reported it.
I offered my professional services to help transform HTC but have not heard anything back yet.
The helpful EE guy I was talking to has disappeared off the face of the planet also until Saturday apparently also. BBC;s watchdog have had a sniff so this could be the start of my TV career, if HTC dont want to hire me.
I also updated HTC and advised that I will only discuss this with the senior exec who offered his services from this point on.
P.S Apologies for the poor pics. I had to use my old phones camera.

Whereas this story is very poor I have to say HTC's UK repairs center were great when it came to me sending in my old Desire and Sensation for repair. 3 day turnaround and both sorted without bother. It does seem like this is a bad experience, though, and one that would just make me claim on my insurance to get a new handset as opposed to getting one repaired

My device is under warranty. This is the result of three warranty repairs, lots of escalation, costs (time spent, days off waiting for the device to be returned) and grief. How would I make a claim on insurance, its in warranty. Believe me,if I thought my insurance company would fix my ongoing problem I would have claimed. I HAVE authored a thread previously stating what an excellent level of service I received from HTC UK repair, when I had a problem with my HTC desire.
I will give credit where credit is due, and complain when it is due. I want to write nice things about HTC, but in this case I cannot unfortunately.

HTC Repairs nightmare experience / advice

I felt others should know about this to help make informed decision about HTC repairs. I sometimes ago noticed that the air vent was breaking off from my Shift device, I called and sent it for repairs but was told that part was not under warranty, told to check online for the repairs bill...it was £240 to change a lousy vent mesh. I called to tell them I am not fixing again and heard nothing until I checked my repair bill online again and guess what? it was now half of that price, I promptly paid and after 2 weeks got my device back. Happy ending? no!
I first notice that there was a small chip on the screen, also, after picking up my Shift from any table, the grip rubbers at the base comes off and get stuck to the table. I promptly called HTC and this was booked in for repairs again, and this was the beginning of the nightmares.
The status has been 'Hold for materials for about a month' the last time I called, I told them that even if the materials were coming from the moon, they should have been in UK by now, they have deprived of using this device for total of about 2 months and I'm paying mobile broadband monthly charges.
Just sharing this out of frustration with HTC and sadly this is not the first time this is happening to me from HTC. Are there similar experience, or advice. They must know that they cannot continue to hold devices for as long as they want, our responses may make them realise what their repair line is like and make necessary amends...

May be this is offtop, but: In Russia, ther's a law, called "Protection of consumers". This law tells, that SC cannot hold any device longer, than 45 days. If thay cannot repair your device at this time, they sould pay you 1% of device's price for everye day of overholding, or give you the brandnew device. I think any contry have such a law.
may be it worth trying to write complain (email) to the mother company in Hong Kong ..

HTC said they would fix it but didn't

Because my Nexus one had a dead/stuck pixel, I called H.T.C. and requested a repair. I sent it to them, and a few days later they said that they had examined it and determined that I needed to pay for the repair. I asked them why, and they replied that it was scratched and cracked.
Well, when I sent it to them, I had an invisible shield (a full body one, mind you) on it, and there nary a blemish on the screen. I told them this, and after a few days (and a couple more telephone calls), one of their managers had a technician examine it, found that it was fine, and said that they would fix it for free.
I received it on Monday, but didn't touch it until Wednesday because I was busy at work and waiting for the new invisible shield that I had ordered. When I used it, I noticed that they had removed the invisible shield, which I expected, but they hadn't fixed the stuck pixel! (Besides this, I had returned it to them with the original box, which they didn't send back to me)
So I called them last night and requested another repair. The representative asked me if they had charged my account for the shipping, and I answered truthfully that no, they had not charged me at all. I suppose that I am fortunate that they didn't, considering the other things they did. So now I am sending my Nexus One back two weeks after I returned it to them the first time, hoping that they will fix it properly, and without any argument.
HTC never charges you for return shipping. You only have to pay to ship it to them.
I am sorry you are having these troubles!
I successfully swapped my Nexus One due to a dead pixel within 3 days! I made a call on Day one at 11pm and by Day 3 at 8 am I had my replacement phone.

That's a bit crap, in the UK they email you a pre-paid shipping label.
I live in the U.S.A., and they sent me a prepaid shipping label. I'm just ticked off because I sent it to them, argued with them for four days, and they didn't even fix it, and two weeks later I need to send it right back. Plus it cost me another Invisible Shield.
Swap method is always better, faster, and easier. Plus, you get a new phone. Who doesn't love that?
They said that they couldn't swap it because it was too far (a few weeks) the purchase date. Maybe the person I spoke to didn't know what she was talking about. That's sort of my impression of the support division of the company, though I know I'm probably having an unrepresentative bad experience.

I think this is BS from HTC. I swapped my N1 after almost two months. They will put a hold on your credit card; if you can live with that the replacement is much faster than the repair.
I'll consider that if they don't fix it properly this time. I didn't want to swap it because of my engraving and the full-body invisible shield that I put on it, but if they don't fix it this time, I probably won't be willing to trust their repair department again.
I had much better customer service from Apple when I had my iPhone ..I'm getting really annoyed with HTC ...especialy with that multitouch issue..

I had a dead easy time with apple and my wife's 3G and her 3GS ... you walk in with the broken phone, they demand £150 (ish) for the repair which is always your fault. They then do an estimate and if its expensive (ie > £150) they turn round and say it's BER (beyond economical repair) and offer to sell you a new one. If it's a cheap fix (ie cracked glass) they repair it and pocket the £150.
Now that is customer service!
Other issues such as the 3G problem on the iPhone where it cascades from 3G to Edge to GRPS to No Service and the only way to get it back is to either power off or switch to airplane mode and back. Took it into two phone shops and then the Apple store in London and their solution? Turn off 3G.
Although their best to date is a macbook which I hardly ever use stopped charging. Rang up and they said bring it in to the Genius Bar in 2 weeks. I did, they then said it's warranty expired yesterday (13 days after I reported the fault) and refused to touch it. Demanded to see the manager said they would do me a favour and look at it for free as it was only 1 day outside warranty. They checked the battery and it had been charged 37 times in a year. The guy said this was quite heavy use and was a years worth and I would have to buy a new battery! Queue one massive kick off in the Apple store, resulting in them begrudgingly fitted a new battery!
Or the iMac 24" ATI I bought that crashed all the time, they gave me 3 units before I read on the internet that it was a software issue. I started running XP and voila ... sorted. Apple rolled out a fix quietly without telling anyone a month or so later.
Yes Apple support rocks!
All modern companies support sucks in some cases ... get used to it. Sell a million units and if you get 99% satisfaction you will get 10000 unhappy customers. Give them a platform to shout on and voila!
I bet not everyone gets Apple support like I do, some people probably can't believe how good they are.
Anyway, enough ranting, I wish google would fix the screen calibration issue although I only need to dab the power button and unlock it to fix mine.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Having worked in multiple call centers let me be the first to tell you that it's hard to find intelligence or common sense in them. I work in a call center for AT&T right now and I do work for the Vice President and Assistant Vice President because nobody else knows what they're doing. As soon as they realized that I had common sense and knowledge of technology they took me off of the phone, gave me a raise and converted me from Contractor to Employee. I asked my Director "Why do you let the managers hire people who are so ignorant" His reply was "I'm paying them $17/hr, I don't expect them to think. We have the information and tools set in place to think for them. If I wanted them to think then I would hire people with a higher intelligence and I would pay them more. Instead, I have people like you come up with tools and other things to think for them"
So this is why I hate when people say "I called T-Mobile and they said..." because that means nothing. You can get a different answer every time because most of them don't know the answer because your questions are above their level of intelligence. Now, I'm in no way saying that every person who works in a call center is an idiot. I'm saying that a large percentage of them do not understand anything about what they're troubleshooting.
I was reading a survey in P.C. Magazine about customers' ratings of the service and product quality from companies such as Apple, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard. They rated things such as the frequency with which hardware was found to be faulty soon after purchase, how easy it was to have it replaced, and other such topics. Apple did rank first overall, and Toshiba ranked second. This doesn't surprise me, since I have a ten year old Toshiba Tecra 8100 that still runs fine, though I've fixed the screen hinges.
H.T.C. was not in their listing, and I had never dealt with their support before. I replaced my X51v's screen myself after having it for three years and getting some water damage (I also replaced the backup battery later), and that's working fine now. I'm kind of nervous now -- I half expect my Nexus One to come back with real scratches on the screen, or more dead pixels, or some other problem that it didn't have before. After they already accused me of damaging it last time, I sort of wonder what they might damage to do with it this time -- something worse than sending it back unfixed.

I sent it back to them last Thursday, of course, and received a message on Monday saying that they had received it. Today, I received another message saying that they had completed their diagnostics, and guess what my option was? Pay for repair, just like last time! I sent a response asking why and called them, but all the morons in their customer service department could do was 'escalate' it, so I just sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

PS:sorry for my funny Engl......
Yes they are shockingly bad.
My blackstone had newton rings so as I'm near them I dropped it in.
They wanted to charge me nearly £200 to repair something which in other countries they cover under warranty.
Thing is, they hadn't sent me a link to the tracking page so I only found out when I called up after 2 weeks for an update. Had I left it much longer they would have disposed of my phone without telling me.
I arranged with the call centre to be able to go in and pick my phone up but they hadn't told the repair centre so they were baffled with my arrival.
I then took the phone back to the store I bought it from for them to try and get a warranty repair, they got the phone back with a report of "no dead pixels found" when the fault report sent with the phone didn't mention dead pixels. The store offered to try again but having been without my phone for a month I wasn't keen, so they put it through as an insurance claim and I got a new phone the next morning.

I feel sorry for all UK HTC underwarranty c....
Looks like it's a group of poor paid people.
Or they just traying cheat on us.
By the way It's not real HTC they are just ''official service''
Hope HTC will change it soon!!!
SO say no to Miltone Keynes service centre or be realy careful.....
One good thing about it being in the UK is UK consumer laws are pretty decent.
Merely mentioning trading standards when I was in reception got them to change their tune and go get me my phone.
Had I a spare phone I could have reported them to trading standards for not fixing newton rings under warranty when I could provide evidence that in other countries they were allowing them as warranty faults.
I hope UK law will be behind us if what New Scientist said recently is true. Apparently, touch screens have a limited life because of the manufacturing process and rare earth metals used. They said most last just 18 months but that luckily, most users upgrade before then. My screen is already losing accuracy making text input difficult. After spending £500 I expect my phone to be working for alot more than 18 months.
that sux for y'all. Can y'all not have insurance that covers this for you. In the USA I pay for the insurance through t-mobile. When my hd2 kept overheating, I bricked it on purpose (just to make sure they didn't try and say there was nothing wrong), called t-mobile, told them it wouldn't turn on. They overnighted me a phone. Didn't cost me anything except the monthly insurance fee.

can understand how a screen might wear out if you dont use a screen protector, with one however it should last for a very long time... unless i dont understand the tech
just about warranty
this is not a tread about screen lifetime.
I just disagree withy way how guys in UK --> Miltones Keynes working.
Isurence if fine but it can't fix errors done by service centre.
Im not sure if my insurence is covering 1 second repair.
I don't know what the problem is. I had the crazy screen sensitivity issue, agged lines, random key presses.
Had the phone 9 months, called them, tried the latest ROM, same problem, sent it back, 2 weeks later it reappeared working perfectly, no problems, no scratches.
I coudn't be happier with their service.

The great thing about the consumer rights acts is you are entitled to a reasonable length of use out of a product, so even if it comes with just a 1 month warranty and it fails after 3 months, if you can argue that it was resonably expected to last that long then the law is on your side and you're entitled to repair/replacement.

Insurance is for damage/loss, not breakdowns. Breakdowns should be covered by warranty/consumer protection laws, after all, if you're sold a shoddy item, why should it cost you to bring it up to the quality item you paid for in the first place?
Of course if something isn't covered by the warranty there's nothing stopping someone damaging their phone and claiming on insurance for a replacement.
Generally we have lower premiums and an excess to pay in the event of a claim, although you could find a policy with no excess but higher premiums.
Well
my HD2 is again on the way to service centre.
Let's wait for it!
I was just havig look all around my HD2 Looks like they found some used one in better contidion.Replace the sticker with IMEI an SN.-->Maybe they've put even my HW in to it.because IMEI and SN is still same----->second hand housing, screen with death pixels, sreen was't align in housing and few small s..ts.

Personally, I would e-mail HTC both UK headquarters and their Taiwan headquarters and explain how their repair service is unacceptable and is affecting their brand image as a producer of quality phones.

Hi..
Just let you know my experiences of HTC & my HD2
Had a problem with the USB charging socket, it was loose/broken - the phone would no longer charge. Contacted T-Mobile UK and they asked me to send it via one of their shops for repair, which I duly did. It went to SBE in Milton Keynes (T-Mobs official repairer) who found water ingress (??) and therefore claimed the damage was OOW. So I contact SBE who agreed their report was wrong and that the damage was in fact caused by crushing or dropping (??) & was still OOW, they then returned the phone to the shop still broken.
So I emailed T-Mobs customer service and they suggested that if I was not happy (as if I would be) I should get a second opinion from HTC UK themselves and provided a phone number. I contacted them and they arranged for the phone to be collected. In the meantime I searched the web and found a few people having issues similar to mine with the USB port so I collected as much evidence as I could and printed and packed it in with the phone before they collected it, along with a letter explaining that I, and many others, did not accept that the phone was 'Fit for purpose'...
2 weeks after they picked it up, a replacement arrives on my doorstep!!!, same serial number, different IMEI and definitely a different phone. During the time that they had it they never contacted me to say what they were doing and the online repair tracker just indicated that they had received my phone.
Since I've had the phone, which is faultless, I have had 2 calls and 1 email from HTC asking me to complete a customer satisfaction form!!!
So - I think HTC UK, are, with a bit of persuasion perhaps, ... Brilliant!.. However, T-Mob won't be getting my business again...

Problem is still in guys>>>>> Milton Keynes (T-Mobs official repairer)---->IT's HTC official service centree as well!!!!
Im sure all HTC from any NetProvider must be fix in Milton Keynes anyway.
Hmm..
I did ask the question when I spoke to HTC and the guy on the phone assured me that they were not SBE, even though both addresses were in Milton Keynes..
To be fair, the addresses I had were different as was the paperwork!

VERY Impressed with HTC USA!

2 weeks ago to the day, I accidentally dropped my HD2. Nothing major.. I was actually sitting down when it happened, and the phone bumped my ankle then gently bumped the floor.. no big deal right? (It has a hard shell protector). Well, then as the phone flipped over, it bumped the edge of a table leg and damn! Four hairline cracks on the digitizer. And no more functionality though the LCD was fine and the phone was working but locked with no way to unlock it.
So, I weigh out the cost of repair vs. replacing it all together. Ultimately, it was cheaper to repair the screen.
Here is what blew my mind! Keep in mind that I am in Canada, I purchased the phone (T-Mobile Branded) on the 'net, it's unlocked, tweaked, and therefore there is no warranty.
So, on 04/01/2011, I contact HTC USA. To my surprise I actually get an American on the phone not some call center in a third world country. Wow! The person totally has their act together and in less than 10 minutes, I have a quote for the repair. Wow again! The rep explained everything in detail along with the mandatory disclaimers and while they were finishing up that, I'm receiving an email with all the necessary details and an RMA and Case number and shipping instructions. Wow yet again!
04/02/2011, I send the phone to the repair center in Texas. By 04/05/2011 at 10:50pm the phone has arrived at the repair center. The next morning, I get a call from HTC confirming the damage (which I knew), and they simply want a yes or no to go ahead with the repairs or not. By the afternoon, I have a FedEx tracking number, the phone is fixed and it's on its way back to me in Canada. Wow one more time!
04/11/2011 FedEx is at my door with my phone and HTC picked up the return shipping. Well.. you guessed it! Wow!
I am reconfiguring the phone back to the way I had it prior to sending it as I write this. It had been hard reset to factory spec which if fine and to be expected since they likely run various diag after repair.
So, for $120.00 + $25.00 Shipping, my phone is working again!
There's a case study for keeping our companies and their support centers on North American soil. There are dozens of companies I could list that should be taking notes. 8)
Nice to see a positive post like this. glad you got you HD2 repaired and are now back to modding it.
The whole repair process was nine days including weekends which I think is darn good!
That said, I was without the phone/device for 2 weeks. Talk about withdrawals! LOL!
Amazing how reliant we become on these devices. I use it to manage my daily activities for 3 businesses, 1 job, and my personal life/activities. I was on the verge of anxiety at times! Hehehehe!
At least I had my trusty HTC 8125 as backup and while it cannot connect to my cellular provider's network for phone/text/data, at least I had my calendars, tasks, notes, and contacts but I'll tell ya, talk about feeling tethered to a land line and out of the loop.
Yep, it just got HardSPL 4, my preferred radio flash, BsB, Total Commander, and a few other goodies back on and is now syncing with my Desktop and Exchange. d'-'

It was not a bad price if it was a year ago, but I just picked up another near mint condition one for $150 with everything included off criaglist.
Sent from HTC HD2 with Android
Yeah, fair enough however, in Canada, the phone is not even available therefore my options were a bit more limited to purchase a new phone through a system where there is a little more security in knowing that if it turns out to be a bad deal, the purchase it covered. i.e. Buyer Protection from eBay or anything like that.
It's not like you can hop on a local Craigslist up here and find them readily.
So, the replacement cost for a whole phone was much higher, and the repair was the way to go.

You're a lucky guy.
I've had less good experiences in the Benelux here.
I called in mine for a screen and gps issue that is warranty issue since I run the official image on this HD2.
They didn't pickup the device twice as promised which drove me up the wall since I had my colleague involved and had to change several appointments with my clients for.
After I complained I got called by a customer care guy and was promised my device would be fixed one week after the pickup.
Called them this afternoon since we are one week further and my device was waiting for 2 parts but they didn't know which.
I wonder how many parts can break in the HD2 that direct to the fault. Guessing the main board and an LCD screen?
Well according to the customer service I will have to wait for the parts to come in.
I am so disappointed in the service and hole customer care after having a touch, touch pro, touch hd etc.
The touch pro which costed me over 500 Euro ended up in the trash after 3 failed repairs and numerous errors which where caused by the repair center. Sending it back to another address and name was only the tip of the iceberg.
Looking around for a dedicated Android device the LG optimus 2x looks good since it has a 24hour swap warranty.
Sorry to hear bro!
Heck, they even confirmed parts availability while on the initial call just prior to setting up the RMA. Maybe I just lucked out.
I work in the IT field and deal with all kinds of this stuff all the time and it has been years since I encountered this type of competence and efficiency. Don't know what else to say.
Have you checked out the Motorola Atrix?
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...d-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-ATRIX-US-EN
This thing looks cool! Watched several segments on it during the CES show back in February. My only question or disappointment was in all the promo vids from the CES they were touting Android 3 Honeycomb however at the Motorola site its tech specs list Android 2.2.
Good luck in your search!

Well lets say that I do the same work as you and do escallations and process realignments. If I could have a go in this whole thing .....
The Motorola looks interesting but try to find one in Europe.
I very agree with your assessment of HTC. My story is one better. I had bought my phone (HTC ELFIN P3452 TOUCH) in India. It had some battery charging issues and when on a whim I finally contacted HTC US, the lady told me that the warranty on the phone had expired 5 days back. I politely requested her if there is something she could do. She came back a few minutes later and told me she will take the phone as under warranty, but she will have to get back to me after figuring out where I should be sending the phone for repair as they figured HTC touch is not serviced anymore. I did not get a call back for 10 days and then I called back and explained my situation again and the previous call to a totally different lady. She gave me an RMA and asked me to ship to their TX facility. I got the phone back with brand new board in a week. But then I noticed a crack in the body. Since now the phone was under a 90 day warranty, I called back and explained the situation. They gave another RMA and so I sent it back. another week later, I get the phone back and it was brand new everything including the LCD and the phone. New IMEI.
HTC is top notch. So my current phone is HD2 and backup phone is Touch.

HTC One build quality... Cracks, Gaps, Wonky Glass and overhangs

Hi all,
been having some real fun and games with my htc one. Some things to look out for if you are planning on picking up a new htc one. It took htc over a month to arrange a repair of the device and when it was returned the "crack" between the front fascia had been made smaller but was still present, so its going back yet again (what fun).
The front glass at the top is still not fitted correctly, and the fascia overhangs at one end and underhangs at the other.
When I first got the phone, I did notice the crack, but ignored it.As a few weeks went by I noticed the crack was getting bigger so I decided to return the phone.
I personally think that the body of the device has not been machined properly, so despite HTC attempting to repair, the problem persists. I have requested a replacement phone this time from HTC.
Dealing with htc service has been a real pain. I unlocked the bootloader, so the first response from htc staff has been "out of warranty". As I have had to remind HTC several times, it does not matter if the bootloader is unlocked in the event of a manufacturing defect. This was "escalated" by htc and after 1 month there was still no resolution. I had to remind them of uk consumer law before they eventually undertook the warranty "repair".

My glass is high on the top and low on the bottom. It is subtle enough that it doesn't bother me, and it definitely isn't as bad as some of the stories I was hearing before I bought mine.
Well, I didn't have any similar issue to you guys, but my One had a scratch on the back, along with 2 very small notches, plus a very small piece of some tape or something sticking out of the metal to the right of the bottom speaker. I highy doubt it could've come from my pocket as it was completely stuck, so maybe there was a gap. It also had static noise during calls.
Sent it back and waiting for a new one.
(Why didn't you go through your retailer btw? It's much more effective).
My previous experience was that the HTC repair service direct was better. I waited a week for my old carrier to email me a form for the repair. Previously HTC support did an excellent job. The glass problem is caused by bad manufacture so that the fascia are not true to the body of the phone. Also Please note that my HTC one had only a minor crack showing at the start. It got rapidly worse so I decided to return it. My point is that if u have an ill fitting fascia/gap/overhang then your phone could also get
worse/ let dust in so I would advise to return.

Oh alright. Well, I don't know. Here in Norway I sent in my One X on a monday, and got it back the same week. Sent in my One on tuesday and my new One will be here tomorrow. I guess it differs.
These defects really aren't acceptable, so you should always return imo.

Yes it appears thing are very different here in the uk. I have been trying to resolve this with htc since 10th July!! They parked (or in htc uk speak "escalated") my issue for almost a whole month. Today they are making their mind up (hopefully) to supply a replacement phone. It seems decisions in the uk are long winded.

Thats what I thought. However, the crack around the phone got much worse so I reported to HTC July 10th. Apart from a dodgy repair from HTC which I will not accept, they have done nothing since JULY 10th with regards this. I am now thinking that my HTC experience is about done as I have lost faith in HTC service, and this awfully made phone. The S4 may be plastic, but I am confident that if it develops a problem it will be repaired/replaced efficiently without the aggravation I am getting from HTC. Really disappointed as I have been a HTC fan since the desire. The amount of my time, and HTC peoples time that has been spent on this must add up to more than the purchase price of the phone.
What I find really galling is that each time I speak to someone in HTC with regards this I have to remind them of their obligations under UK consumer law. By default they look for reasons not to fix the problem. Quite appalling.
They have thanked me for my continued patience with HTC with regards this matter. It seems HTC are on a mission to test the depths of my continued patience. Awful.
I agree with the above poster, HTC seem to go out of their way to make what should be a simple process very difficult.
I have just spoken to them because I have had two HTC Ones now, with a third on the way from the phone company after I spoke to HTC. Both the phones which got returned had chips in the glass near the metal body on the side, one had a dent, and the other had what looked like scrape marks on the white border bit.
HTC customer service told me they were not aware of any other complaints at all about the build quality (!). I then said well there are a lot of people on the internet who have posted about this. HTC responded with "everyone can post anything on the internet". I asked if presumably that meant that all the pictures posted showing issues were therefore faked, but they didn't answer on that.
To me it is very simple: the customer says they have a problem, the company says ok no problem, we will do everything we can to sort it out. Instead HTC argue, insinuate that I was making things up, and try to make it difficult.
I asked if I could send my poor quality handset to them, they can look at it then send me a new one out. I was told that they would indeed do this but if they could not repair it (which would be impressive if they can repair dents and so on) they would send me out a refurbished handset.
I said well I don't see how that works. I buy a phone which is damaged entirely due to your build process then send it back unused, then get offered what is in reality a second hand phone in exchange. Thus halving the value of my investment in one easy step, without ever actually using the damn thing.
The response: "That is the way we do things".

Hi, htc have decided to close my trouble ticket today because it has been escalated to senior management. From previous experience this is bad news as last time they forgot about the issue for a month. They have point blank refused to send me a replacement device, despite the fact that they have failed to act in a reasonable time, or fix the reported defect. I have discussed this with my network operator who have stated that they will need to repair the device up to three times before they can commit to providing a replacement. This is their standard process.
Luckily for me, I used mastercard to purchase and have been advised to make claim, given the defect and the appalling service to date. This will take up to a month, and they can insist on a replacement device.
Under UK legislation, for high ticket items like mobile phones, you have a right for the item to be free from manufacturers defect for a period of up to 6 years from date of purchase. Legislation also means that I have a right to demand a replacement device if reasonable efforts have been made by me to enable the device to be fixed, which I have. I have also been advised that it is not acceptable for a supplier to continually attempt repair.
I will never purchase another HTC product for fear of poor service, and they are just such high maintenance in the event of a problem.
It's shame, because I really like the phone from the day or so I have had to actually use it!
Vodafone have said they will give me a different phone next time if the build quality on No. 3 is still below standard. The only thing is I don't want an iPhone or an S4 at all. I got the HTC One because that was the one I liked.
But yes, I will also not be purchasing an HTC product ever again because of their frankly appalling attitude towards their customers. These days it is not enough to simple build a good product, people expect (rightly so) that any follow-up issues will be dealt with promptly and correctly. HTC do not do this so I'll be voting with my feet next time!
Hi, I also think that the HTC One is a great phone, if only HTC could supply me with one that does not have a manufacturing defect. Their last attempt at repair was not satisfactory, and their customer service is appalling. Yesterday they closed down my outstanding ticket with them as "that this case has now been escalated to higher management". Today I called to find out if there was any progress with this escalation, and to get a target resolution for this escalation, was promised a call back from a manager, but have heard nothing yet. Last time they escalated my issue it took 1 month of nothing, no feedback or progress. I suspect that escalating an issue actually means kicking it into the long grass. Anyhow, perseverance is obviously the nature of the game, and just to make sure, I opened another ticket for them, so they dont forget me again. Anyone would think that they don't have a legal obligation to make sure their products are free from manufacturers defect!
Now booked in for a second attempt at repair.

Hi all,
Dealing with htc service has been a real pain. I unlocked the bootloader, so the first response from htc staff has been "out of warranty". (

Sorry for OT but did they know about the bootloader from their database records (seeing your imei or serial number)? Or they examined the phone?
I told them the bootloader was unlocked. They would have found out anyhow, and in the case of a physical defect, it matters not in law. My understanding is that consumers of "high ticket items" should expect that the product is free from defect for 6 years.
