[Q] 240dpi / 192dpi Possible? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
May I ask whether G2 can turn into 240dpi / 192dpi mode ....
I am used to watch smaller words and use tablet mode of those Google apps...
Thanks!!!

Would expect it can but some, if not all, lg apps will look misaligned, expect FC, to.
That's what happened on my note2

Stop using lcd density line in ics!!!

I know that the most common way people have been switching between phone and tablet modes in AOSP builds of ICS is by changing the lcd density. Well, I'm here to tell you that there is an easier way to do it, and it doesn't create weird looking out-of-aspect-ratio artifacts in certain apps (like Google Music in portrait orientation in tablet mode).
So, in your build.prop, instead of using the traditional ro.sf.lcd_density= line, you can remove that entirely, and use:
ro.build.characteristics=
and after the "=" just put either tablet or phone.
That's it! Easy peasy!

Thanks for the tip mate
That was added in CNA v5 and i think it created problems and was changed back in v5.1.
Fyi, tablet mode changes the dpi to 160, at the moment i use 200 because 160 is a tad bit small for me.
Good tip tho, interested to see if it creates any issues with Imilika v8..

Great tip, although this really belongs in the "General" section.
Expect more from someone with almost a thousand posts...

So basically you keep the DPI @ 320 & change the above parameter to tablet?
Will this give me the tablet like two panes in settings, gmail & google play?
Screen shot please, and stop crying about this brlongs here ore there. Cry babys

So basically ICS has 2 modes, tablet mode and phone mode. To my understanding this is dependent on the dpi, anything lower than 213 dpi will display ICS in tablet mode i.e. 2 panes on most apps. Apparently 160 dpi is the official tablet mode..and i think 320 dpi is the standard phone mode. I currently run mine in 200 dpi and most apps show 2 panes.. I am sure there is a better explanation somewhere

So far, I haven't had any issues with Imilka's build. Then again, the stock keyboard still looks funky in portrait tablet mode, but that's nothing new. Everything else works perfectly.
More than anything, this fixes things like tablet portrait Google Music recent's.

Absolutely... i don't think just changing the build characteristics parameter to 'tablet' will give you true tablet mode...I guess it will help in apps like music etc where the controls are screwed up in tablet mode...did you try it btw, i mean keeping the DPI below 213 & setting the characteristics to tablet and then check the music app for e.g.
Can sum1 tell me plz ...
what shud i edit in build.prop in order to run gameloft games ...
bcz for default setting it sayz
" your device not compatble blah blah and request for refund "
Using ICS STUNNER ROM
Can ne1 help me out wid dis thing or wts the workaround for this ???

Running select apps in tablet mode with TouchWiz

If there isn't development on this already, I think it should probably start soon anyway.
Now that we officially have ICS for the Note, and especially owing to its screen size and resolution, it would be great if there were some kind of app that would allow us to choose on an app-by-app basis to run in the tablet mode or in phone mode, or simply make it such that the whole system runs in one way or the other (regardless of LCD density tricks).
For instance, I prefer the tablet mode of Play Music WAY more than the phone mode. On the other hand, Dolphin HD seems to be scaled much better when used in phone mode than in tablet mode. It would be nice to have an app that dictates how other apps behave... Does such a thing exist?
Lemme know your thoughts!
I didn't realize until after I posted, but I think I meant for this thread to be started over in the General forum. Whoops!
Cant believe with all those posts and thanks u still posted here
Edit : i was a milli sec late

if you dun mind restarting the phone upon changing mode then I would say it's possible.

The trick is scaling and you probably would need to stat in lowest dpi possible.
Wonder if android is dynamically scaled to the screensize or hardcoded to include it.
And yes its being developed. Dont know status though

[Q] Is this normal? Screen issue

Hi!
I just bought a Nexus 7 32gb ver. and I'm getting some weird things on the screen.
It's difficult to see but it looks like a large blot. This only happens on Android menus (sounds like software problem). Is this normal? Checked on custom rom too. The rest of applications look great.
2nd image is negative
I got my 2nd Nexus 7 today 32GB model (CB0K) and I've got this issue, didn't have it on my 16GB model which had dead pixels, didn't check up later on to see if new screen had this before I sold it on.
Anyone else knows if this is common as now that I noticed it it's going to bug me forever...
That's just where one of the graphic designers at Google screwed up on the gradient in the background.

The screenshots show adding new widget on Nova launcher. However the issues are present in other apps (such as settings too).

i9505 lag as hell

Just got my gs4/9505 it has version 4.3
On it but it lags as hell at games
Like dead trigger 2 and others...
I had before that an iPhone 5 and lg g pro

Anyone has the same problem as I do with the 9505?
Or even with the 9500 octa?

I don't play that games, but reasons for lags could be many. Some video games are not optimized for all drivers / GPUs.
Samsung's phones are so filled with bloat I wonder they work at all. This with knox is a totally new dimension. I always root, and at least remove everything I don't need and/or go AOSP/CM as soon as I can.
Back to your problem. Activate developer options, by tapping Build Number (Settings - about phone.). There you'll find options 'force GPU rendering' and 'disable HW overlays'. Play with these and see if it helps.

Helped a bit but still laggy...
Too bad..a great powerhorse being kicked in the nuts
By laggy software. ..
Im on 4.3 since day one is there any change from 4.2.2
To 4.3?
Changing my device to 9500 will do any difference?
Im not facing any issues on I9500

Done factory reset and the phone now back to normal.
Games are a bit lagging but not that
Serious.
Its a shame that the adreno 320 cant handle / not optimized
For games...with my older nexus4 I had no problems
Maybe because the high resulotion instead of 720p...
I play that game on High settings and never experienced a lag. Make sure you have turned Off Power Save Mode and give Antutu a try to know what's going on with your phone.
Im not on psm and for instance Dead trigger 2 is lagging on high settings.
My os is 4.3 XXUMK9 and antutu gives me 29663pts

[Q] Choosing my Rom

Hello everybody
Ok, so in the next days i will buy my next smartphone, the problem its i am in the middle of 2 choices. I like the battery life of G2 and the amazing screen :victory: but i dislike the UI from LG. And here i need your help. I love the stock rom from Nexus 5, i really love it, and i want help to find a similar rom to G2 like the Nexus have, with all the features from kitkat (now google when slide to left, the icones, the black defenitions menu) and still have the features from G2 like Knock On, IR Blaster and the great performance.
Thanks in advance for all your help
Cyanogenmod our kk Roms aren't very stable yet but flashing a custom kernel I would go with the nexus 5 because most likely you will get a g2 with kk and it won't be rootable and not only that sensors tend to go bad and knock on/off will mess up and your screen will constantly turn off just root nexus 5 and install greenify or freeze the app with tb I'm getting a nexus 5 or an oppo find 7 whichever I can afford nexus 5 in my oppinion nexus 5 is superior not as much hardware to go bad go with the nexus 5

What are you talking about? The 'sensor' is the screen.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
No it uses a sensor just above the screen if you have knock on enabled try rubbing where the sensors are,the screen will turn on on mine one of the sensors on mine the sensor is messed up its sad saying I've had it only a month
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
yeah i heard about the sensor problems... And some screen issues like one tap it press 3 times, or making a line it doesnt go straigth...
Is a better (stable OS) option to get a Nexus 5 instend of get a G2 and install a costum rom like Nexus have?
stock theme for ls980 is gorgeus
Yep it is nexus 5 is the better option I'm getting a 32gb red nexus 5 and going to install cm on it the battery issues will be fixed in the next update and I'm sure its fixed with custom kernel's
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
It will be better then get the Nexus 5 instead of getting the g2 and install a rom?
Yes the nexus 5 is a better device just because of official Google support if you want out if the ordinary battery life g2 is the way to go I'm getting a nexus 5 because 2 sensors on my g2 are bad making the screen go crazy its really bad on stock better on custom ROMs but still there nexus 5 dissent have as many sensors and frankly lg doesent know how to make a product without at least 10,000000000000000 bugs battery life on the nexus 5 isn't the greatest but Google is working on a fix about time they did
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
But with a rom on G2 wont solve some problems like the screen issue?
Im really sad seeing that G2 is a great phone but LG manage to ruin it with that poor UI... If in any chance the G2 had the software like the Nexus have then i never have any questions to choose.
