iFixit Teardown on the Moto X - 7 out of 10 - Moto X General

That's a pretty high score for a smartphone folks. Good to look at how tightly everything is packed in.

The flexible back bodes well for durability - less likely to show small dings.

Who's the screen supplier?

It isn't stated in the teardown, nor is it easy to find out honestly. It doesn't have a part number like the other components, nor does it have a logo. But, its Samsung. And I have this from a Motorola source. Unfortunately I don't have proof to show you by way of a part number or picture, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

I'll take your word for it! I know AU Optronics is the only other player in AMOLED so I was curious if we got panels from them or Samsung.

That memory card looks like a standard one, will the phone take a larger capacity one?
Edit well not a slide in but available in a 32 or 64 GB?

It's the front-facing camera...

Thanks. Lol. Way off.
So where is the SD?
Could it be swapped?
NVM
There it is. In red. Very secure & not going anywhere.

What's Win CE 5 Pro plus? Looks V3ed and as said Minority Report'd and something else...looks good but with ARM11 (no particular implementation named nor any clock speed given) and 1GB of Memory + full SD card usability, a TV out and WiBro, it sure as heck l ooks like an interesting device.
Interestingly enough two d pad layouts on the slide out keyboard so I hope the screen is sufficent for navigation.
It's also 1,000,000 times better looking than the Wizard, very sexy if you ask me.
Plus T-DMB for digital TV on the go, very nice indeed.
WVGA in a screen that small is hard to believe....
Still, very cool device. Much thinner than a Wizard. I'd buy one in a minute except for the fact that there's no d-pad unless you extend the kbd. Do you suppose d-pad functionality is somehow encompassed by the two buttons on the top and bottom? It almost looks like one does left-right and the other does up-down. I wonder how softkeys work.....
If they put a phone in it it would be worth a look at, who whats to carry two devices when you can have one, I think somebody forgot the phone part.
Looks trick though.

Not exactly; it seems designed for VoIP so I wouldn't exactly expect a GSM/CDMA/UMTS transciever in it. WiBro seems to be in there for that exact purpose.

Photos of disassembled G1. Are there any?

Looks like G1 is not as popular as iPhone. The dissassembled iPhone photos were available in the net the next day after the sales started. It have been a week and yet no disassembly photos for G1...

I have seen a couple disassembled G1's... but is there a point to seeing them? They told us all the hardware, and the software, do we really need to open the phone to see if there are hidden hardware implications?

Everybody says a lot of things just to do the marketing. It's always better to see by you own eyes.
BTW Android kernel doesn't contain WL1251 driver, so these pictures can be fake.

oooooooo I like. Too bad there's no hard keyboard....
No, that picture is fake and has been photoshopped. I just zoomed in 400% onto the image, try it yourself and you will quickly see how.
Wow you are correct.. But I will take the rom thank you very much.
Hahaha of course how is the ROM anyway? Would you recommend it, is it stable for everyday use? I use my G1 a lot so I need it to be stable
I use mine everyday, I use maps and phone most of the day while I work, I depend on my phone at work. So I recomend.

I got it from orginal website. It has been approved by fcc for release in US and i don't have a photoshop and also i dont know how to use it
anyone else notice the new battery? perhaps with the 1.5 firmware and this battery, it will last longer?
I went to HTC's website and did not see that picture, more over the HTC Magic is EXCLUSIVE to Vodaphone. They have already said this phone will not be coming to the US. I'm not saying you photoshopped it, someone else did. Again, simply zoom into the phone and look at the T Mobile bezel and 5MP bezel, its pretty obvious.

HOLY CRAP! those are definitely not iphones
too bad we can't see the front of it

i'll not be surprised, since they are sponsored by Tmobile see jackets

also the USB slot
and the back speaker (it has a different shade than the rest of the phone)
it's definitely the Tmobile SGS
guy on the left probably saying something in german along the lines - "this xxxking GPS, what a joke", it thought i was in ......"
hahah thats def Galaxy S baby!!!!
The camera lens frame seems a bit rectangular instead of the squarish format of the SGS.
But it might be some aspect ratio distortion on the photo. They might be using the mighty Samsung indeed... especially since no GPS is needed there so a unit without one would still completely satisfy.

"Guy on the left" is Franck Ribéry, one of the best fotball players alive. His German is not all that fluent (coming from France), but may be enough to talk about GPS.

Why do you think the camera is off-center of the circle?

Why do you think they made the camera off-center inside the circle? Is there a technical reason to do that? It's not a reason I would not buy a phone or anything. I'd be much more warm and fuzzy inside knowing it was for a reason though and not because they designed the glass cover and didn't get the specs right when they designed it.

my question to you would be why would it have to be elsewhere?
position doesnt matter, other than aesthetics
when the IC board is designed, its more likely placed to the side, so the motherboard is not cut/designed around it.
check the N7 2012 teardown for example... good proof how designing around a component didnt work out so well.

Seems having the circle printed so it centered the camera would be more pleasing to the eye or just get rid of the circle outline thing that serves no purpose.

do you spend 100% of the time staring at the back of your phone?
the perfection is in the imperfection
FWIW note 5 tmobile is like this also.
