4.3 GE rom. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So I wanted to install a GE 4.3 Rom onto my AT&T S4 however I am finding it difficult to find one due to the fact that there are so many versions of it from different developers. I just want the most stable and most up to date 4.3 GE rom for my S4. I'm still new to the forums so I'm also having some trouble navigating so if anyone could link me to the best or most recommended build of the GE 4.3 rom that would be much appreciated!

There is an entire Google Edition thread in the General section. Check out out and see what most folks over there are using. Cheers

also, you don't list your phone variant/carrier
when flashing the i9505 roms you need to flash the correct carrier kernel
and maybe even loki-doki
sorry if you are already aware of this, just putting it out--

check the original android development tab for this devices forum, many of the roms have updated to 4.3

Is anybody maintaining a non-TW ROM?

Hi,
It seems all the custom ROMs are using the TouchWiz interface. Is anybody looking to maintain a ROM which does not have the TouchWiz launcher and Samsung mail apps etc?
Personally, I find the standard Google launcher, monochrome menus and standard mail app much nicer than the TW version, however there are interesting apps like the video player and updated kernel, drivers etc I would like to take advantage of.
I know there are plenty of other people who also do not like the TW experience, but it seems that all the ROMs in the sticky above have all chosen to take on TouchWiz.
Thanks,
Neil.

Nope'. They claim they are not intending to maintain two ROMs. They have updated their TW ROM and not their non-TW ROM.
Blazar by Poitie?

Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to General
You wouldn't even have to use the search function to see this post on the front page of the development section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200387
And, not that I'm a mod, but clearly Questions should go to the Q&A section

That's because somebody put a post in there, I do know how to use a search thanks, and I do understand how a forum works. I'll try that ROM thanks.
I put the post in the Development section as it was a question to developers or maintainers of ROMs. I didn't realise this forum is so hard faced about 100% of questions absolutely having to be placed in the Q&A section, even when the topic is relevant to the section.
Might be worth updating the ROMs sticky in the development section to note that Blazar has a Non-TW option.

[Q] is there a pacman v23.0.0 with halo for the nexus 4?

I wanted this specific ROM for my nexus 4, because it's 4.2.2 JB. I tried upgrading to 4.3 pacman, and it overheated my phone, used all my RAM, just multiple problems. Any help find this ROM would be much appreciated.
Why is this in development section?

Thanks everyone for NOT helping. I've already tried that, and got no answers, figured I tried and look somewhere else, but apparently everyone here is useless too.

PACman works fine. There are no heating issues unless you use the phone heavily. I haven't read about heating issues in the latest posts in the PACman thread. Using the phone heavily gets you heating issues on any ROMs, even stock. Try a clean install.
Anyways, try keeping questions in the right section next time. There is the development thread, probably somewhere to post bugs, and also the Q&A thread.

list of SafeStrap roms

Hey guys, just rooted and installed SafeStrap on my att gs4. Is there a list of roms compatible with SafeStrap? I know 4.2.x roms, but what confuses me is which ones? Some ppl say it has to be a 4.2.x "touch-wiz" based rom, other say you can run any 4.2.x rom, hence Google Edition rom(non "touch-wiz"). Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks

I told myself I wouldn't be that guy, but... Search. The "Official SafeStrap Q&A" is less than 10 topics below yours, in the same forum.

. I know the OP in that link says 4.2 touchwiz based roms ONLY. Google Edition rom isnt touchwiz based and others have said they ran non touchwiz roms, as long as its a 4.2...This is conflicting, figure someone can help me clear it up.
The only roms that can run are those that work on the touchwiz kernel. GPE is built with one, so it works. Besides that, only roms using touchwiz or GPE as a base work (no AOSP, nothing that requires a different kernel like 4.3)

As far as i understand it, it's the Kernal. For whatever reason, (this is the part I don't really get) the few GPE ROMs in that thread work with the TW Kernal. But ROMs that require their own Kernal, like CyogenMod, do not work.
Kind of confusing, yes, but this is exactly the type of question that that thread was designed for. And I'm sure you are not the first person to ask it. I'm not saying read through all 80 something pages, but I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere.
The GPE ROMs do not work 100%, either. Due to the missing GPE Kernal, they cannot be seen when plugged in to a computer, cause the drivers it calls for dont match the Kernal used. (Again, as far as I understand it).
Alright questions have been answered. Link to thread where all answers can be found was posted as well. As I closed the other similar question thread I will close this one as well.
OP if you have any questions regarding this decision please feel free to contact me via PM

Have a great day!

Yes, there is. You can fin it in the Original Android Development section. The maintainer is AntaresOne. He has 2 versions. One is the official nighlies and the other is an optimized version.
You can go for either one or, you can choose one of the other roms based on CM12 or CM12.1.

Just to clarify, you don't know how to type 'CyanogenMod' into a Google search bar but are competent at flashing ROMs?

My next thread would be to get help for flashing a ROM.
Why would you create a thread? There's hundreds for that exact thing already..I think some reading may be in order

It's because this forum is not a helpdesk. It takes 1 second to type "Cyanogenmod I9505" in Google or in the xda searchbar. Most developers don't like these kind of people in their rom threads but it lowers the quality of discussion dramatically.
It's the same for the question you asked in the CM optimized topic. It's not a helpdesk and it has nothing to do with that particularly rom. You can easily test which rom is more stable for you by flashing it.

My first rom was the 5.0.1 GPE rom, then tried CM12 Optimized builds, SaberMod CM12 and 12.1 builds and I am now currently running Resurrection Remix rom.
The most stable from the bunch (for me) was the GPE rom. The fastest and smoothest (for me) seems to be Resurrection Remix.
All of them ran stable for me, with no bugs or serious problems that could not be solved.
CM12 has reached a final version. The developer works on 12.1 now. CM12.1 nighlies is the most updated of the bunch.
Now, for the flashing. Before flashng you might want to backup your stuff. This requires root. You can use CF-Auto-Root to do it. Warning: This will trip knox.
Just google search "root s4 cf auto root" and follow the instructions in the thread. CF-Auto-Root does not work with all s4 variants, so make sure you have the right one.
If you don't want to backup anything, then you can just skip to installing a custom recovery.
There are 3 to choose from: CWM, TWRP or PhilZ Touch recovery.
I use TWRP. You should be able to flash it with Odin. Google on how to flash a custom recovery on the s4. Even if they are for different android versions, it's basically the same process.

Use it with KT Kernel. It gives you lots of customizability. You may have a green tinting at first, but this can be easily fixed. Settings > Display > LiveDisplay > Color Calibration and set all values there to 50% and hit Ok. Then just change the brightness so the changes take effect. Otherwise you will have to reboot.
Or you can use it with the default kernel.

Does anyone have a Kitkat Rom?

Hi, does anyone have a kitkat rom? I'm asking because the stock jelly bean is too outdated and some apps will not work on it (e.g Flat style colored bars) and phone is a bit slow. So if you have a kitkat rom, it doesn't matter if it's some kind of stock or custom, and you want to share it just do it in this thread, or create a new one in the development section. Thanks in advance.
