[Q]Dual SIM Phones? - Firefox OS General

Does anyone know if we can build Firefox OS to dual SIM phones? Will both SIM works if we build it for a Dual SIM phone?
I got 3 Dual SIM phones at home and I'd love to contribute building versions of FFOS for them, both for testing and daily use if possible =P
I just wonder if the Dual SIM capability will still work on Firefox OS...
This OS seems to be the answer to the old mid-range phones that can't even run Android well =P
Thks in advance!

Gonna get alot of heat for this...

Ok, I love my AT&T Fuze running 6.5. Unfortunately, AT&T is so expensive, I'm switching to Sprint. My wife gets a 23% discount off our bill. So anyway, here's my situation:
Bought a Samsung Moment, getting it tomorrow; but would love to be able to dual boot WM on the phone as well.
I read that they just released a dual boot menu to allow WM phones to dual boot Android and WM.
Why could android phones not be able to do the same thing? I know it's not the most popular idea, but I think both operating systems have their advantages and would love to be able to use both. Any suggestions?
Also, has there been any info about HTC releasing SenseUI for all android phones yet? I've tried to find some info, and hope they do so. Thanks guys!
Because Android is all about open source and winBLOWS/MONEYSOFT is NOT. Nobody wants that closed minded, closed sourced CRAP anywhere near our beloved androids! all the same good luck in your venture...

There is one thing...
How about playing other non hardware video codecs such as divx or flash video (instead of mp4 or 3gp), with TCPMP, which can't be done easily on android yet, AFAIK.
The simple answer is that WM ROMs are much, much larger than Android ROMs (sometimes ~2x) - too large to fit into the internal memory of an Android phone.

HELP!! Iphone clone wants other OS

Guys,
I got an iphone clone that runs (java). It runs/accepts .jar files. It has the UI of an iphone which is built based on Java.
I am thinking porting it with other OS such as Android or WinMo.
Just wondering does any of the Gurus here can help me on transforming this iphone clone to run Android (Any version will do).
I am not sure about the hardware of this phone (this phone fell from the sky with a note on it : port me other OS!) but after i tested it I am pretty sure that its a full touch screen with 1 centre button just like Iphone 3g. It does not have any card slot except for a GSM sim slot.
Please do help me.
Good luck!!

Agreed 100%
OP - If you can't find an already built ROM/Version for the model phone you have, you'll have to rebuild Android to meet your hardware specifications.

[Noob] Questions before buying

I am such a noob to this phone that I don't even have it yet! I have been looking to find one to play with but I have a couple of questions because even after digging about the forums and searching, some of the info seems like it could be outdated and since there are multiple OS options, it is hard for me to find anything coherent.
I do, however, have lot of experience with Android phones (rooting, installing CWM, ROMS etc).
My main question is how difficult is it for switch between ROMs and OS versions? If I put Android 2.3 on it for instance, which looks like just running an executable and maybe installing a radio and spl, is it difficult to run WP7 on the phone? I guess what I am asking is it difficult to return the phone to stock after installing Android or WP7? I am used to rooted android phones where once you have the recovery installed, flashing roms is a piece of cake. I am going to want to switch it up a lot.
I saw a posting on Craigslist for a rooted HD2 that can use t-mobile's 4G network but I don't see any posts in the forums. Is that possible or is it just craigslist noise?
Is it possible to use the WP7 marketplace on this phone? I saw an old post that said it was not possible but it may have just been old information.
Thanks!

I've learned a lot in the past 6 weeks, since I bought this device.
It's very easy to root and to run Android: Flash SPL, Radio, Magldr, and then Android ROM. You can also dual boot from stock Windows Mobile 6.5
If you want to run WP7 Mango, you're options for Android become very limited. WP7 requires that it be installed on NAND. So Android would only be able to be used on SD card. The SD builds aren't necessarily as stable as the NAND builds, but are really good anyway. WP7 is also extremely picky about what SD cards it will work with. Cards may appear to be working well, but can pose massive battery drain. Trial and error is the only way to find the right card. I've got a PNY 16GB c4 and it works really well. Over 2x the battery life of my Kingston 8GB c2.
If you want to go back to stock ROM, it's easy to reflash from the bootloader and it wipes everything else out of the picture.
I'm currently dual booting WP7 and AmeriCan Android's 11/07 build w/o issue. It's easy to go back and forth. Installing WP7 and setting up for dual boot requires jumping through a few hoops, but I think it's totally worth it. I love the UI of WP7.
Yes, you can use marketplace. You'll need to connect your Windows Live ID to the phone and you'll get an error about activation. This is where you find the thread here about using the Windows Support chat function and they happily give you the activation code. You should keep this safe, as you'll need it each time you hard reset or reflash the ROM. Once Live services are active, the Marketplace works just fine.
The T-Mobile HD2 works on TMO's HSPA bands, but will only work on the 2G bands for AT&T. I had the TMO version for a few weeks, but decided I wanted to tether through Android, so I sold it and bought a Telstra HD2 from Australia and it works on AT&T HSPA.
Thank you so much for the response! Do you think it is worth trading my Samsung Galaxy S 4G for this phone? I am an HTC guy so the samsung isn't really working for me because there are not many ROMs for it.
That I can't answer, as I don't have an educated opinion. I just got the HD2 so I could play with WP7 and skirt around AT&T's data plan requirements.

Honestly, don't trade your Samsung Galaxy s 4g for this phone, but if you want to experience different types of Roms like meego,ubuntu,win7,etc and to experience htc sense then only trade your old mobi. And for your information only Android froyo runs perfectly on this phone while all other versions of android are in beta! Battery life is Bad!
My point of view is that its really easy to install roms.
I have installed Tytung 3.2a the best one^^
Thank you everybody for the information. I think I may just try to pay cash for one rather than trade my Galaxy S and then maybe sell both to upgrade my phone next year.
I like WP7 but I am pretty well indoctrinated into the Android ecosystem and I worry that I might end up with a handset that has battery issues. As an early adopter of Android, I know how frustrating it can be to have a phone battery that won't last more than a few hours.
Concerning battery, my hd2 last all the day from 7am to 10pm running Android.
So, to me, no real battery problem.

Dual boot android on Samsung Focus

Hello guys!
I recently bought a new Samsung Focus and I have to say: good job Samsung. A couple of weeks ago, I heard about a "hack" from XDA devs that lets you dual boot android and wm7 on it. So I was wondering if I could get some help from our beloved forums to get more information or links in order to dual boot...
P.S: sorry for my bad English
Thank you very much everyone! Alpha8768
Sent from IE9 for Samsung i917.
wondering
I heard the rumors too but could not find the sources or tutorials, please post if any have anything too share
I think they were all rumours
Freak, because we got clear information about it :/ Maybe the team who created the exploit (supposed to be the same exploit than on the HTC HD2) decided to not release their work? I'll try to search more when I'll be on my computer...
Well over in the main WP7 forum they managed to get money rounded up to buy a Focus for cotulla/DFT. He has since posted a picture of a focus with MAGLDR on it. This would be the first step to custom ROM's but there was never any release info on MAGLDR or anything else.
Any new info on this would be greatly appriciated

Seconding this request. Much as I like my Windows Phone, I'd really like the flexibility of an Android and don't have any money to buy anything.

Try bartering your phone on ebay
Also drooling in wait of this feature...
I will say I do love my unlocked samsung focus via the DFT and I know that the magldr is how one would dual boot this phone, I just don't know where to get the gingerbread rom for this model (v1.3). I'm dying to find the answer because I use my other phone which is an android to allow me a completely free phone via sip and google voice. I can't find an app for wp7 that allows this so I am basically just wanting to do this just for that feature because lets face it... not paying for a phone and having one over wifi is a big plus. WP7 just lacks in this area. All the apps that supposedly allow you to do it for free are just a bunch of proprietary crap. So lets see it guys... android on the wp7!!! (can we just use the htc hd2 android rom for this since the dft enabled an htc hd thing in the rom that does work for this phone?). Any and all help/comments/questions are greatly appreciated in this area.. even just pointing out a lil documentation to help get me the know-how to figure it out for myself would be nice. Thx.
I dont think its that simple, the MAGLDR that was put on our Focus's while its still MAGLDR its a cut down version, and Cotula's twitter he explains it a bit better.
I'm with you on getting the Focus to run Android, I think everyone with a Focus would like that
Theres the HaRET thread which was first used to get windows mobile to boot into Android, which is making great progress.
Personally I think the Samsung Captivate would be a good canidate for the rom, but the major difference in their is
Captivate Processor: Cortex A8 Hummingbird Processor(Samsung)
Captivate Internal Memory: 2GB
Focus Processor: QSD8250, Qualcomm's processor, same as HD2
Focus Internal Memory: 8GB
The processors will be the hardest to get to work unless someone can break down how both of them work, it probably highly unlikely though
Theres the Vibrant(just like Captivate, but on T-mobile)
And even the Nexus S, but still that darn processor :'(
No news? Really would be nice if we had a dual boot
Someone would have to convince DFT to add 'Boot from SD Android" to MAGLDR like the HD2 has.... and then someone would have to cook an SD Android build... so while possible it's not probable.
Just checking to see if anyone has any update
Would be soooooo nice! I dont use DTF, im happy with my OS like as, but, a dual bot is a plus that cant pass!

HD2 Android Rom on Trophy ?

is there a way to install a HD" Android Rom from this treat on my HTC 7 TRophy on the 8 GB intern SD Card ?
When yes, wich is it and How it works ?
No, If you want Android on your Trophy, Sell you Trophy and go buy a Android device. That is about the only way
There is currently no method to install Android onto Trophy. HD2 has it easy because it is almost the exact same phone as the HD7, which is why it can run WM6.5, WP7, and Android. I'm sure someday someone will figure it out, but for now, we are stuck.
You may buy one phone more. But I don't know why android had what so many people want install it on WP devices? WP is best operating systems I know!
I know one reason I'd like to have Android installed... tethering. I have the SparkW (Verizon Trophy), but the new tethering is even more limited then Android (tethering on android doesn't support NAT translation or DMZ/port forwarding).
The Android loader project is moving rather quickly now, so we should just wait and hope everything goes well. These things take time, and no one is getting paid (much) to do these things.

I could think one-two reasons why someone would like to dualboot..
1)flash support
2)more apps..
3)just for exploring the android os.
Many of us,cannot pay for 2 different phones.
I would like to correct my previous statement... tethering isn't limited, its much MUCH better then Android's tether.
NAT is supported, but on my phone (SparkW Verizon network) I am getting a IPv6 IP address.. so ONE irc network won't function for me. Everything else (including XBL via my 360) is golden.
I officially have no reason to run Android now, but we maybe able to soon enough if the devs can figure out how to get HaRET working on WP7's. They could be close, could be far far away.. only time will tell.
