If you are flashing this over a newer firmware version, then a full wipe is essential.

yep, it took ages, but the UK is finally caught up with the rest of the world.
NOT encountering any issues so far with .244!

. 244 is a huge improvement, speed wise over 434. I had seriously bad slow downs on that, apps would take seconds to switch and open, gone immediately with this build. I updated via PC Companion and rooted with the 434 kernel.
It would be nice to see these FTFs released with separate kernels we can flash back to after rooting.
EDIT: The main reason I suggest it is for people who don't download the FTFs (due to slow speeds etc) but update via Sony, and just need the kernel to flash back after rootong. If you had the FTF you could just exclude everything else anyway so it's a non issue.

Everyone wouldn't have to create a 'kernel only' FTF if you uploaded it and shared it here after you created it, just like everyone hasn't got to create this complete FTF.
In any case, all of the 244 releases use the same kernel, so the FTFs released by DooMLoRD in his rooting thread are all that's needed for now.
In the case of future updates, if I create and upload an FTF, I will most probably include a kernel FTF in the post for rooting purposes.

What do you mean? It's a C6603 rom, therefore has LTE support.
Enter *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialler, then look in Service info -> Configuration. What does it say under 'Working bands'?

Ah, the LTE option should always show up then. I was unsure on that.
In any case, 3 UK don't have LTE yet, do they?
If you want the option to show up that badly, then try flashing again with no wipe first. After that, if it doesn't solve the issue, your only option is a wipe.
Perhaps something got messed up if you flashed over a custom rom with no wipe.

This is a non-standard way of spitting ZIP files, created by 7-Zip. You'll have to use HJSplit to join them or use 7-Zip to extract them. You could also use this command in Windows Command Prompt to join them:

There are many generic firmwares available for the C6603 (LTE version). You can just take a glance in the General forum. Any of those firmwares would work fine on your LTE version. There is no compulsion to download an Indian firmware as such. The only thing different might be some of the bundled software and the additional language depending on the region.

No 4.2.2 update yet. Xperia Z

Hi,
I am from UK and bought unbranded Xperia Z from Vodafone on the first day. Still have not got the 4.2.2 update through the phone or Sony PC Companion. I have not rooted the phone yet, as I am not that well verse with how to do it..
Can anyone tell me or give me links as to how to backup my data and update my Z to 4.2.2. Tried to do it from the links in the forum. Just confused as there are several of them, not sure which one to choose.
Thank you for the help.

Yeah, the unbranded UK owners are probably one of the last left to receive this update. I've been tempted to flash the Vodafone branded one as I'm with them anyway - just been too lazy :cyclops:
Just flash C6603 firmware from other country
If you really want 4.2.2 then just download flashtool and flash another countries un-customised firmware (I chose Spain, but it doesn't matter which one you use just make sure you flash the correct firmware C6603 or C6602).
Your phone does NOT have to be rooted
Your phone does NOT need recovery (CWM/TWRP)
and when UK Generic firmware gets released hopefully someone will upload the .ftf file and you can flash that (although there will be minute differences)
To recap:
Download flashtool
Download official 4.2.2 ftf (any country)
then once flashtool window is open then DRAG the ftf into the window and it will flash.
It's very easy, I encourage you to do it :good:

Pretty much this. I feel bad for UK users but i'm in the same boat - Orange Romania sure take their sweet time trying to bake in all their useless bloatware. Vodafone Romania has had the update out for 3 weeks now.
I just have to find some time to flash an unbranded FTF (which will also get rid of the bloatware from Orange)

Yesterday I got a notification on the desktop app about the update, so maybe it's a slower roll out :/

This isn't a surprise to me to be honest, I had this with my desire hd, which was one of the first to come out. It was always the last to be updated, and this Xperia z is the same. One of the first batches to come out. It'll get done eventually.

Still waiting for 4.2.2 update on my stock Xperia Z. Shocking that network variants that have to go through more testing and red tape are being released before a stock fw. Sony really need to get better there!
While I agree it is pretty appalling service from Sony I decided to flash another region. Chose Generic DE in the end, seems to be identical save for the nfc icon which doesn't bother me.
Best decision I made, now I can actually enjoy the phone and look forward to quicker updates. Would be like I had bought the phone from Amazon Germany, which I did with my O4X as it had not launched in the uk anyway.

You need to use Flashtool to flash basebands. Besides, I don't think it's useful to flash this alternate baseband version unless you're using 3 AT, 3 DK, 3 SE, Orange FR or T-Mobile NL network.

Any new baseband is a good one as far as I am concerned. It may be aimed at "3" customers, but there could be benefits to others as well.

It's not because the build number is a little higher, that it's necessarily better. They may first have created a generic baseband (.67) and then tweaked it for certain networks (.74). That doesn't mean that .74 has benefits for other networks too, it might even have downsides.
My recommendation: use the baseband for the networks it was intended. There'll be a reason that Sony is releasing .67 firmware to most devices and at the same time .74 only for certain operators.

Under settings/more/Mobile networks/Network modes you can select from the following:-
LTE(preferred)/WCDMA/GSM
WCDMA only
WCDMA/GSM
If you select option 1 or 3, you will get GSM (2G) in the absence of LTE/WCDMA availability.
I'm a Danish 3 user.
I'm on .2.67 - will I be able to root this version by using Doomloards method of flashing kernel from .423, rooting it and flashing back kernel from 2.74?

I think what they have actually confirmed is they have no idea what's going on and they are quite happy to ignore one of their biggest markets.....
I hope we get this by the end of Feb, because after that, their website will be lying.
Cant be much different to the Generic Austrailia firmware. Why is it taking so long !
Does anyone have a link to the Vodafone UK 266 FTF?
Its in a thread soemone started specifically about the vodafone UK version a few pages back now. Id not bother though unless you're rooting straight off, its better than the CE in my opinion but has some voda specific bloat and is still sluggish at times.
Ive decided to just try the Existenz rom which sounds like a nice tweaked version and pre-rooted to boot.
maybe some progress:
Well my number is there as getting it so I will check when I get home but not holding my breath.

Whilst it'd be nice to have a proper Generic UK one id still hold out for the next version in case it has some good fixes in.
Still nothing...

Anyone received yet?
I've given up waiting, but my cust number supposedly has the update, ive flashed eXistenZ Ultra and everything works great, even got 4G on Three, couldn't get that on stock 4.1. I'm still on a locked bootloader so no warranty loss.

Might try this myself. I thought you couldn't flash other roms with locked bootloader

If you check the eXistenZ thread, there are instructions to install on locked bootloaders. I think only stock based ROMs can flashed on locked bootloader.

Sorry my internet takes too long to upload it again. Mega has been a very popular site today and it's very easy to download as well.

NFC logo
Can someone confirm, does this build has NFC logo in status bar when turned on?
And if not, guide me to builds, which has one. I know, that France build has it, but it has too much of bloatware, which I don't need.
I thought all the 757 firmwares had the nfc bug

Are you sure that's a bug?
I just assumed it was a QOL change.
The toggle doesn't turn it on and off
