[Q] Droid RAZR M problems - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off let the say that I am very technically challenged... I seem to be having a problem w/ my Razr M is that my wifi keeps going off numerous times a day, the other things that use wifi in my home don't have this problem so don't think it is the router, I was told by someone to hard boot it, I'm have a h**l of a time doing that as it seems not to want to do that every time, now to clarify I am pressing both volumes and the power buttons and when my son found this forum and also another site it said to only press the lower volume one and power but when I did that all it did was take a screen shot.. I didn't find out till it was to late that the battery can't be taken out by me. Also what's up w/ an sd card I put one in but it won't transfer my apps to it? I had games on my other phone but when I couldn't put them on sd I just took all those off and put on my tablet. I only use about 3 apps any way, no music no signing on the internet, no FB or twitter, main reason is that I can't see little things that well so do those type of things on PC, if it wasn't for using a few apps to make a few buck(& GCs) to supplement my fixed income I wouldn't have even bought a smart phone.
So hopefully someone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated

regarding the WiFi - go to settings -> Wi-Fi -> advanced and UNCHECK "Avoid poor connections"; also make sure you have the latest update, as that update supposedly improved signal strength (go to settings -> about phone -> baseband version. if prior to May 2013, then you are NOT on the latest update
regarding apps, this is a feature of the operating system (Android Jelly Bean) - so moving apps is not possible.

Sorry I forgot to mention that it was flashed for a prepaid carrier, guess that might make a difference. I did the setting thing already,
I am getting an update which I figure must be from "phone" but it won't install, it comes up many times a day, as the only options I have is later & install but since I hit install first time I saw it and it wouldn't I just now hit later. So any thing I can try for the hard boot?

a hard reboot will not remove the notification. I presume the phone has NOT been rooted nor bootloader unlocked?
to perform a hard reboot, trying pressing and holding down the power button for 3 seconds. if all you see is a power off, then choose that. wait about one minute, then turn it back on.

I have to guess not as I really don't know.....
Did jelly bean change what you can do w/ apps, I had my apps on the sd card when I had a Droid X
well all the 3 seconds do is turn the phone off of which I have done a number of time, it doesn't do any thing, wifi will come back on it's own at some point don't know how long between off & on as I don't see it come back

oh, you mean a hard RESET? that could do it, but you would lose all of your data (anything not saved to the external card - which could include photos). it would be like you just got a new phone. but I'm not so sure a hard reset would do the trick. however, if you have the time and don't mind, then perform a hard reset: it's under settings - not sure where as I'm on 4.2.2 now, but look for backup/restore or security -> factory reset
but before that, contact VZW - they may suggest a "safe mode"
yes, JB disabled the ability to move apps to the external card, as they felt the phone would run smoother with the apps stored in the internal storage.

Allel Upgrade Problems

I'm starting this thread because it's obvious these problems exist, but they don't seem to have been addressed, or at least not in depth.
I upgraded to the Alltel 3.35.671.9 Rom, and have regretted it ever since.
Problems so far:
1. Phone locks for no reason. At first I had not set a password at all, but still got locked out. Removing the battery got around this. So I set a password and phone still locks randomly for no reason. Now the password I set worked for the first 2-3 times, but today it did not work, and i was forced to remove the battery again.
2. Memory Leak coming from nowhere. Occasionally I will bring the phone out of sleep mode, only to find the screen at 10% brightness. When I check memory, there are NO running programs, yet there is a memory allocation bar that shows 0% allocated for storage, and -122 Megs available for running programs. Only a soft-reset fixes this issue. I have disabled X-button completely (as I have heard there is a memory issue with 2.0) but since it came native to this Rom, i cannot Uninstall it.
3. Activesync keeps coming back on, draining my battery. Now I know there used to be a trick to this, but for some reason nothing I have found so far keeps activesync from restarting.
Loaded programs since Clean Upgrade:
1. Magic Button ( don't leave home without it )
2. HTC Home Plugin 2.10
3. HTC Home Customizer
4. Advance Configuration Tool
5. Sprite Backup (need that one)
6. PocketCM
7. Google maps
8. GooSync
blah blah blah..
Anyone have any ideas I'm all ears.
alltel
I have updated mine to the new rom and works perfect
i got it all working including the GPS.
I have had no lock ups, no issues at all.
Screen stays at 100%, sync works fine both in cradle and over the air
Sound is great, alarms work fine
Cant see any issues
I will be updating my daughters tomorrow and will report back if any issues but i have a ton stuff loaded on mine and all is good and she is a basic user so I am sure it iwll all be good on hers to

Thanks. Althought that doesn't "Seem" to have ANYTHING to do with activesync, I'll take your word for it. I remember with the old rom Activesync would come on after a soft-reset, but close it once and it stayed closed.
As for some of the other issues, I did find out i was using a "hermes" version of HTC Home. After installing the correct version my phone runs MUCH better.
Issues Still Present:
1. I got locked out of my phone TWICE today. I have NOT set a password (Start > Settings > Lock ... "prompt if device is unused for... " is UNchecked.)
2. I have not yet been able to get GPS working with google maps.
--Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Location Settings is set to ON.
What other software can I test GPS with.. I rarely use anything else anyway.
Thanks for the info.
Today's Report:
My phone only locked up on me (by "locked up" I mean 10% screen brightness, unresponsive app apctivation... start menu still works, but no buttons launch. After a few minutes I can activate memory usage only to find out -122Mb allocated with non left for any apps).
I thought it odd tho.. 1st lockup was at 2:15pm 2nd Lockup was at 5:15pm (3 hour coincidence).. I expected the next at 8:15 but it didn't show till 9:00 (or there abouts because I wasn't paying attention.
I DID however notice that it happened today while the phone was charging, but it HAS done this directly out of my holster, so I don't think this is a clue. This seems to be a timing issue with an application somewhere.
Good news! I only got locked out of my phone once!! So I set a password and set it to 24 hours, something that will probably NEVER happen. If I get locked out again.... I'm going to looking for a Kitchen Rom. Can't be much worse.

[SOLVED] Can't shut off the phone, it always turn on again

well, i was following a thread about it, but i guess it was deleted cause it was in wrong area...
if a fix was found please tell me! =oP
it seems to be a commom issue: when i try to turn off the phone, it just turn on again...
what i've done until now: i was running cm7 and i believed it was a rom related issue, but i'm back to uk stock (1.32.405.6) and keep it with no root (just ship s-off that remains after flash ruu), and the problem remains, just take a little longer to turn on again... BUT, when i plug it into pc by usb cable it stays off, when i unplug it turns on again...
i'm tending to believe that's a hardware issue, maybe a short in phone plug, but in this case, it is the most commom issue that i've saw...
any idea is welcome
thanks...
Edit:
Okay Folks, looks like the "fix" was found. I made a little summary for the next generation! =oP
this weird issue happened due summer time changes (don't ask why), but after March 27 the phone simply didn't stay off, if you tried, it just turned on again.
The "fix" is:
- disable automatic hour update (just in case)
- remove battery and let it out for around 10 hours, then put it back and turn on!
- Hour and date may reset (or not)
- now you can reactivate automatic hour update if you want.
- the device just stays off properly again
credits for
XL3N7 that found the problem,
Rodomar705 that found how to fix in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014520
And everyone else that probally lost every data (like me) so many times trying find out how to solve it. =oP
I really dont understand why the admins deleted and not removed the thread from the development section.
What really happens: I have my dhd with cm7 around two months now and i always flashed the nightlies.I know the issue, when the phone is powered off and plug a charger reboots in cwm recovery. I never had problem just to "power off" my phone and actually did that every night before going to bed (so i know that the "power off" used to work ok) .Two days ago i flashed RC3 , power off worked ok, then nightly 32 and next morning i had the issue. When i select to "power off", without any charger or usb connected , phone just reboots.Just to remind you that if the phone is powered off and you connect it to charger then the phone goes to cwm recovery! So i tried various combinations :
1. Back to stock 1.32 (both with img file and exe file). After that flashed 3.0.0.5 and the newer version of cwm
Phone powered off correcty and the vol down+power goes to hboot. After flashing cm7 problem appears again.
2. Also had a backup and load it (nightly from 16/02/11) but still the same problem.
Please devs tell me what kind of files you need in order to help me solving the issue.
Also i see posts from guys using other custom roms and having the same problem, so i dont really understand why the admins deleted last night the thread started in development section.
You guys using customs rom just check if your power off works and if you have problem write it here and hope not to be deleted.
@thiagodark I think you have to change a little bit thread's title
same problem!!....i think is a bug of CWM...or there is a conflict between recovery and "idontknow"!!....
this situation is funny ... we are afraid to brick and our DHD doesn't want to turn off...
well, i think my problem is a little different, cause i get this problem even after flash official ruu, i'm all stock right now and the phone keeps reboot when i try to power off. when i select "power off" with micro usb cable connected, it works okay, but when i disconnect, it power on again.
Also, sometimes when i try to power off with or without the micro usb connected, it just dies and the only way i can power on it again is by removing the battery.
suggest me a tittle and i change, as you can see, my engrish is not something i can proud myself! =oP

Yes,it must a bug of CWM 3.0.2.4r1,I hope they can fix it in a few days
Ok, I think I have found the problem.
Go to settings --> Date & Time, untick the option to use network values and set the date somewhere before the 27th of March when the daylight changes took place. Reboot and power off. The phone should stay off (at least it did for me). Now power on, go to date & time settings and tick the option to use network times. Power off and it will probably come back on.

No its not a bug of 3.0.2.4 r1(i had 3.0.0.5 when problem appears). As i wrote everything worked perfect (cm7+cwm 3.0.0.5) till one morning (was on cm7 nightly 32+cwm 3.0.05) want to boot in bootloader, so i select to power off. After that never powered off. What makes me nervous is that i didnt install any appl or changed the cwm recovery version.Nothing like that.I always powered off my phone so i know that there is not cm7 nightly related.
So the big question is what changed in a few minutes?
What the f******k?????? Daylight? )))))))))))
Confirmed working.Changed the date back to 03/26/2011
A guy mentioned that last night (about the daylight change) on the initial thread which admins decided to delete

ok, but i don't get how it could affect me, since i live in a place where March 27th was a normal day... here summer time OVER almost a month ago! =o)
I have no idea m8. I've just put 2 & 2 together. The issue first appeared shortly after the time change. Maybe a bug in htc's code? Surely not a cm thing. I have tried fastboot erase system -w and the problem was still there. I have also tried different radios, cwm versions and the issue is still there. Probably HTC. Hopefully one of the greater minds of this forum can pin point the issue.
Perfectly good work around
Hi, If you want to, you can untick the setting in Date & Time and install Clocksync from the Market. Using this app you can sync your phone's time at whatever schedule you like to the atomic clock (it is much more accurate than HTC's provider).
This will enable you to shut down correctly and have accurate time displayed on your device.
You need root though.

Mobile Data Turned off.... Box Pops Up!

Whenever I turn on or reboot, a box comes up, "Mobile Data" telling me what I already know, "Mobile data connection is currently disabled. You need to connect Mobile data to use data applications, such as Browser, Email, and You Tube via Mobile network. Do you want to make the connection?"
This box appears with or without sim card, WiFi on or off, but whenever I boot or reboot. The only time the box doesn't come up, is when mobile data is on, which you can't do, without having the sim card installed.
To eliminate box on boot, leave sim card inserted with mobile data on. I have a Samsung Note, same conditions, there has never been a box pop up at boot or reboot. Easy to click cancel button go move on, but box is irritating, so would like to make it simply go away when device is booted!
No One?
No one has experienced this on their P6800?
I get the same thing - SIM card inserted but data turned off, receive a popup when booting.
It's only one tap to dismiss, and how often are you rebooting anyway! Mildly annoying, but not a big issue for me...
Agree
Not a big deal, yet same setup for Tab's little brother, the Note, and no box. Perhaps the difference between Gingerbread 2.3.6 and Honeycomb 3.2. It still would be nice to not have that box pop up whenever booting/rebooting.

Anyway,It's because of rooting.
I posted same question on rooting thread.

[New][July-16-2020]Unlocking bootloader on VZW Pixel 1 and XL

AS OF JUL 19 THIS HAS STOPPED WORKING
I apologize if you did not get your bootloader unlocking!
At the moment, there is no information if the classic exploit will return, if it has worked for you, please make a post about it on this thread!
We will go back to work to ensure pixels will get unlocked. I do not know how long it may take, it could be a few days, a few months or a few years. For this reason I'd respectfully ask you for no ETAs on the development on the exploit.
I may keep this thread open if people are willing to crack on something or need help.
Thanks for understanding.
----
I wanted to make a new thread to clean things up as the correct answer is buried so far into the VZW thread and I don't believe people have time to dig down that far to do something so simple.
Please give @RaspberryPiBen a thanks by going to his quote for finalizing my rant and making it into doable steps.
The work by the community is absolutely incredible.
RaspberryPiBen said:
Here is what worked for me:
Prerequisites:
No SIM card in the phone
ADB and Platform Tools installed on a computer (https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/)
The latest OTA image downloaded to the computer (https://developers.google.com/android/ota#sailfish for the Pixel or https://developers.google.com/android/ota#marlin for the Pixel XL)
The phone connected to the computer with USB
Learn how to use ADB and Fastboot on your computer as it can differ.
Steps:
1. On the phone, open Settings>System>Reset Options and factory reset the phone. It should say "Restarting" or something similar.
2. When the screen goes black, press and hold the Volume Down key until you get into the Bootloader mode. Use the volume keys to navigate to "Recovery Mode" and select it with the power button.
3. Hold the Volume Down key for about a minute (while it resets) until you see an android lying down.
4. Hold the Power button then press the Volume Up button once. It should give you a menu.
5. Use the volume and power buttons to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and confirm the reset.
6. Once it finishes, select an option that is something like "Sideload OTA"
7. Go to your computer and type in 'adb sideload sailfish-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-394b5899.zip' (without quotes) for the Pixel or 'adb sideload marlin-ota-qp1a.191005.007.a3-23002a57.zip' for the Pixel XL OR you may drag the zip file into the command prompt after typing "adb sideload", either way it should look similar.
8. Factory reset again from recovery mode
9. Reboot to system
10. While it just shows the G, press the power button until the phone restarts
11. Once it boots up, skip all of the steps but disable the options for sending information to Google.
12. Enable Developer Options by tapping "Build Number" seven times
13. In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging
14. On your computer, run 'adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.phone'
15. Reboot twice
16. Connect to WiFi
17. Open google.com in Chrome
18. Check Developer Options to see if you can enable OEM unlocking
19. If you can't, swipe away Settings from the Recents menu and go back to Chrome
20. In Chrome, open a bunch of websites. After opening each one, check the OEM Unlocking option again and close Settings afterward.
21. Once you can enable it, do so! Now you can unlock the bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader:
-Reboot and press the Volume Down key when the screen goes black
-On the computer, type 'fastboot flashing unlock'
You just unlocked the bootloader!

Hey guys. After 5 months of my purchase I finally achieved bootloader unlocking. Basically I am a user that has never updated to latest, I don't know if it makes it a variable if you're already on latest and try this. (I was coming from Sept 2019). So what I did was factory reset from the system menus. Then as soon as the screen went black, I did bootloader combos and straight to recovery. I factory resetted as prep, flashed DECEMBER patch, then after that finished, factory resetted again. Essentially, I followed the classic ADB exploit that has "never worked since Sept-Oct 2019" And yes I do have the VZW_001 CID and "_VZ" in GL website. Know when yours is bootlooping as soon as you reboot it, just hard reboot so it boots up quicker, I don't know what it does for it to take so long. Anyways when you get in, just setup like we'd always do, NO google account, turn off all setting requests (Data location, wallpapers, etc). Then as soon as I got in, I turned on debugging, ran the classic adb pm command, rebooted TWO times. This means as soon as I booted, i swiped to go to home, then rebooted a second time. As soon as I did that, I loaded up my wifi connection, I don't know if it matters but Im using the 5G wifi, then I load up google.com. Immediately, I already notice something strange. Google.com doesn't have a "valid SSL certificate" I thought it was weird, so I went to google.com on my PC and look certified SSL. As I knew that was weird, I was clicking around and I thought that was enough. so I went to the dev menu. OEM lock still grayed out. I went back to chrome and simply typed in "youtube" Let it load up. Then I clicked on the site. I went back to the dev menu. Still grayed out. I exited settings app and relaunched it to the dev menu. OEM unlock lit up in flying colors. I could not believe it. I instantly ticked it with 0 hesitation and rebooted immediately to the bootloader. The unlock command worked! I am now unlocked sailfish! I thank the community so much for all the hard work. I, only motivated the community to their potential. Thank you again!
Generally there are some kinds of factors.
Users have stated before if you OTA'd from menus to Latest patch, it would say "October", even though it's really december. This may make the unlocking procedure impossible. I have also not seen any marlin users report back to me yet about this method. You can still try flashing from googles site if you're already on "October = Dec".
Enjoy guys. We proved WE own these phones, and not VZW.

I hope you enjoy this guys. Regarding it, I do not know how long it will stay for so I suggest to do it now. At the moment, I do not know if this will work for pixel 2 and so on. You may try it but if you have issues you must go to your device board. Thanks.
I Can Confirm it works on Sailfish... unlock my phone on the day its discovered (July 15 ).
Big Thanks
Can this method apply for pixel 2 XL Verizon with July patch 2020???

How long does it usually take for people to get the option active? I followed the steps 3 times and tried loading a bunch of websites but no luck unfortunately Maybe just need to keep trying?

How much websites did you try to load? Did you go online only after uninstalling android.phone? Cheers.
Not sure, but I was at it for around 5 minutes with no luck.
And yes I only did wifi after uninstalling the android.phone like in the steps

Try a reboot and clear data of the settings app and visit various sites. Let me know how that goes. Cheers.
Tried that and still no luck.
Oh well, I'll probably keep trying tomorrow or something, not a huge fuss as I've since bought a new phone, but would've been nice to play around with custom ROMs on this pixel.
I went to check the IMEI number for my phone but it says "Unknown" in the settings now? Not sure if that contributes to it

So I tried following the bootloader unlock instructions 3 times but still couldn't get my oem unlock button to activate om the night of July 18. @djared704 What do you mean by clear data of the settings app, just like clear the app from recents?
Hi! Please, remember that the button may be greyed out, but it may be toggable anyway. So try to toggle it even though it's greyed out. Good luck!

Your IMEI is either unknown due to uninstalling android.phone, or actual corrupted/blacklisted EFS. If true, nothing can be done about that.
When you reset the device, did you flash December Android 10, and in the setup process, disable all the requests (data location, wallpapers, etc).
Is there a sim card in the phone?
Cheers.

I just retried the instructions and tried the toggle even though it was greyed out and it doesn't look like it worked. It wouldn't flip to "on" no matter how many websites I tried.

This was literally my 4th time trying. I bought my phone off eBay so I'm honestly not sure if it's a verizon variant. I tried a checking my IMEI on the Verizon and Google website, neither of them actually indicate that it's a Verizon phone. But if it's a Google phone I expected to be able to unlock my bootloader already... idk Maybe it came from Canada or somewhere else like the UK.

If you can gather enough evidence that your device is a Google store device, you can go here.
To get a 50% chance of displaying actual correct device, you can download Simple CID Getter on the Play store.
Cheers. Let me know how it goes.

LG-H918 - lg ims has stopped

I've had my LG V20 for over a year now... it has been working fine until this morning, when I've started getting a popup saying "lg ims has stopped", about every 10 seconds.
I've searched around Google for a solution to this, but cannot execute any of the solutions that they mention...
1. I have not installed any new apps on my phone in weeks now, so that's not the issue.
2. Many solutions say to call 277634#*# to open a config menu, then open 'IMS Settings' on this menu and change 'IP Version' to IPV4...
Unfortunately, while I can get to the config menu, if I open 'IMS Settings' menu, this error pops up, and switches me back to the previous menu...
This is nuts!!! Is there any way to actually fix this, other than factory reset, which I *really* don't want to do!!!!
Please Help??
I have the exact same problem. I just did a factory reset. Once I got to the part about adding recommended apps, the darn "Unfortunately, LG IMS has stopped" message started popping up again. So, from my experience, doing the factory reset does not help eliminate this problem. Now trying to figure out what to try next.

Did this just start, yesterday or today??
I'm wondering if LG has actually discontinued some service that the phone relies on??
I'm thinking of getting another V20 from ebay, because I *really* love this phone!! But I don't want to end up with another phone having the same issue...

A couple hours ago. As you have probably seen, the problem is not new. Would love to know why both of us were affected today.
I'm currently trying variations of what I've seen on this page:
What is LG IMS and How to Fix the “Unfortunately, LG IMS Has Stopped” issue? – The Shared Web
Okay, here's an update... I switched back to an old phone, then powered up my V20, and this error no longer occurred... I also was able finally to get to the 'IMS Settings' menu (after dialing 277634#*# as recommended at all sites for this issue)...
I tried each of these settings (recommended by various sources):
> set IP Version to IPV4V6 (default is IPV6V4)
> set IP Version to IPV6
> disable VoLTE
In each of these cases, once I inserted a valid SIM and rebooted, this error message began occurring again.
So my best guess at this point, is that LG has simply disabled something on the V20, and I just won't be able to use it any more, at least with MetroPCS/TMobile...
I replaced my 12 year old wireless access point this a few days ago. Thought maybe the new WAP with Wi-Fi 6 was causing the problem. Put my old WAP back. Reset the phone again. Message started again when I got to loading apps.
Found this video that was posted today about the problem. Already has almost 21k views. One of the commenters says he contacted LG and LG is supposedly working on it and will push out a fix in 24 to 48 hours.

Whoa !! Thanks for the update!! I sure hope this works...
I found this a few minutes ago. I also have a v20 and this worked for me, so hopefully it works for you as well. It says to put into airplane mode, which for me did not stop the pop ups. Removing the sim card works, but once I put it back in, the error occured until I re-followed these steps. So unfortunately, you will just have to put up with the pop-ups while doing this. It's been about 15 minutes and I haven't gotten the message, so it looks like I'm in the clear. Hopefully you will be, too.
Set your LG phone to airplane mode to prevent the error message from popping up over and over.
Head to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App info.
Tap the 3-dot menu in the top right corner and enable show system.
Look for com.lge.ims.rcsprovider in the list and tap it.
In the detailed overview for this app, hit the following three buttons in order: Clear cache, clear storage/data, and force stop. (Depending on the Android version on your phone, some of these three options may be found under storage information.)
You may have to repeat step 5 above multiple times for the problem to fix itself.
And the clear data/cache was under storage for me.

Just to save others some trouble, please note that this video, itself, just repeats the same non-working solutions that everyone else suggested, none of which work, including factory reset.
However, the comments *do* appear to have further useful discussions of this subject... so we now can be sure that this is an LG issue... hopefully we'll have a solution in a day or two...
Thank you again, @kcclark99, for finding and sharing this video with all of its comments!!

Just as a side note to this post: placing my phone in airplane mode did *not* prevent this message from repeatedly appearing... the only thing that worked was removing the sim card.

Same here. The only problem is that removing the sim card while doing the method that I found was pointless, as once I put the sim card back in, the problem came back. Though once O followed the method with the sim card in, it went away and has stayed away. For now, at least. I assume turning off the phone will reset whatever I did, and I may have to do it again.
Still no fix for this from T-Mobile or LG.

Well, this *sort of* works with mine... however, every time I reboot the phone, I have to go through this sequence again...
That is not entirely a desirable solution !!
Later note: okay, I didn't read the original post clearly enough... @Arthilios already noted this issue...
Oh well, I can probably live with that!!
Putting the phone in airplane mode renders the phone basically useless. As soon as you turn on Wifi while in airplane mode, the error message pops back up. Can't switch to AT&T either because the T-Mobile's V20 doesn't work on AT&T anymore since AT&T turn off 3G service back in Feb 2022 even though the V20 is VoLTE capable. Another solution is pull the sim card out and just use it like a phone with blacklisted IMEI. LG said they're working on it but I doubt they're gonna push out an update for this 7 year old phone. Maybe they can make an app to take care of this. I think it's time to throw in the towel on LG and get other brands.

I want a phone that I can swap in a charged battery. When I looked at what was available two years ago, I found the V20 was still the best available, IMO. Current phones with that ability were low end models.
