Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have the Nexus 4 I am running 4.2.2 and I'm rooted I was going to update the other day to 4.3 but it didn't work. Could this be due to a custom recovery? I am on stock android and i was unrooted at the time.
I was also wondering if there are any good root methods out there I have heard a lot of problems with rooting on 4.3?
Just would like some opinions?
Thanks guys

There's not really any problems just gotta make sure you're following instructions properly. All you need to do is obviously just unlock your device, then push recovery to it then flash root. Obviously the are more in the between steps.

Update?

I just received my nexus 7 and there's already an update available. I plan on rooting and flashing a custom rom. Should I update or not? I know sometimes an update can cause problems when it comes to rooting and whatnot so I thought I'd ask first.. thanks for any feedback!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes update it. I updated to 4.1.1 first then unlocked, then rooted with permanent cwm then flashed touch cwm from rom manager.
Use nexus toolkit though so you can restore stock recovery to flash Amy new updates and root again easily.
Also no harm updating to 4.1.1 and then rooting we have methods set up for that right now.

You can root it before or after update, you're just updating to 4.1.1, or you can install a ROM that is already there, if you're rooting either way, just go for it right away

Thanks a lot for your quick responses! Lovin it so far no issues like I've heard about.

This is a nexus device. Unlike other devices you never need to fear an update may break your ability to root.

Just bought a Nexus 4 and I got some questions!

Actually, I didn't just bought it. I originally bought 2 Nexus 4 at launch. One was for my dad and one is for me. I didn't opened mine until now, which is many months after launch.
I don't know which version of Android is on my phone, but I think it's probably 4.1. I know about the LTE hack and how it was disabled in 4.2. Now that Android 4.3 is out, how can I update to 4.3, but still keep LTE as an option? I prefer stock Android, but a friend is telling me to install Cyanogen Mod. Won't that require a root and is Cyanogen using Android 4.3 yet?
Anyways, my main priority is to update to Android 4.3 while keeping LTE if possible. How can I do that? Thanks!
Nexus 4 comes stock with 4.2. You can use LTE but you'll have to flash a zip file that will enable it. Yes I believe CM has a 4.3 build already.

Will I need to root my phone to enable it? I thought there's also some sort of key command to activate LTE?
Regardless, if I upgrade to Android 4.3 right now, is there a way to enable LTE or you don't recommend me to do any sort of updates until I have sort out the LTE issues? I'm just afraid that after upgrading to 4.3, I won't have any recourse to go back and get things right.

You will have to flash a custom recovery which isnt that hard. There are a lot of guides out there that will certainly help! Yesterday I came across this vid and he explains it very well!

If you read the app info on play store it says it won't work on 4.3 but they are trying to find a fix.

Ok so we just have to sit tight correct?
Sent From My Rooted G3
I would sit tight and let the app developers try and straighten things out. I updated my nexus4 to 4.3 but will wait awhile before doing my n7. I'm sure it won't be long!

Ok need a little help trying the root kit but for some reason I keep getting adb can't connect
Sent From My Rooted G3
Only thing I can suggest is make sure you have USB debugging enabled and make sure you have the correct drivers installed. It's probably best to ask in the thread of the toolkit you're using, I haven't tried many toolkits but wugs has a pretty good walk thru for driver installation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I followed the instructions in the thread below for 'Already updated to 4.3 and have an OTA notificaion? (JWR66Y from JWR66V)'.
I unrooted, flashed the update zip in recovery and immediately after flashed the superuser zip and all was fine.

Boot into recovery and flash Chainfire's SuperSU package. After that you are rooted.

[Q] About rooting

I recently bricked my s3 trying to install a custom rom. This time around with my new G2 i am just going to root, so i need to know what the best root is right now and is there a possibility of bricking during root process? Also i am on the verizon VS980 with the JDQ39B build on 4.2.2. Thanks
There always is a slight Chance that something can go wrong. As long as you know what you are doing you should be fine. I also have the Verizon model and I rooted it and installed custom roms without any problems. Just make sure to backup

About to buy (another) S4 tonight, please help!

Hey guys, well I'm back in action! After dumping my S4 a few months ago, I am getting another one tonight. Ever since I saw the 4.3 update on my gf's S4, I saw that things have smoothed out and things are the way they should be!
Long story short, I want to see if the one I'm getting can be rooted. It is on 4.2.2 and the baseband is I3373CUFCMF3. Am I good to root it? I've been out of the S4 game for a while, so I don't know. If I can root it, can I run 4.3?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I'd try to get a MDL one so you could just flash a 4.3 custom ron

Most, if not all current S4's will have MF3 firmware preinstalled. I doubt any store would have MDL firmware. Those devices would have had to be sitting there since early summer.

Yes, with MF3 you can root. You can then install safestrap and do some roms.
However if you take the 4.3 update you lose the ability to safestrap and use some roms, but you should still be able to root. I am not 100% as I just kept mf3 and put a 4.2.2 rom on it.
Ok, thanks for the responses. Can I flash any ROM with Safestrap or just some? Can I flash a custom 4.3 ROM for example?
Thanks!
You cannot install anything that's not touchwiz and anything above 4.2.2

Your very limited with roms using safestrap. Even then, the ones that work, might not work all the way. If you had MDL, you could use any rom if you flash loki-doki.
Just ask if they have one with MDL firmware. Doesn't hurt to ask, right?
Thanks for the responses guys! I will see if I can get a hold of a MDL phone.

Get a device that isn't as locked down as the s4 or note 3. Maybe nexus 5? Unless you can live with safestrap or just root. Which I can. If your a ROM flashaholic than stay away.
