[Q] Install 4.3 OTA with CWM? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded the OTA update on my wifi N7, and when it rebooted into recovery, I found that I had CWM installed. Is using CWM to flash the OTA package dangerous? My instinct tells me it's not a good idea. I was under the impression that having CWM installed would block OTA updates in the first place. Thanks!

I'm also stock rom/kernel, rooted and have cwm recovery, supersu, and voodoo ota rootkeeper. I told ota rootkeeper to backup root. I copied the update file to the N7 and ran the update through cwm recovery. After the update I kept root and kept cwm recovery by answering Yes to a prompt about disabling flashing stock recovery (thus keeping cwm recovery) and Yes to a prompt about recovering root. Very easy overall.

Hi to copy the update.zip you used adb or just wired to PC and copied it in the -root of sd?
If i install the update downloaded by the nexus and then run rootkeeper would be good or better install it through recovery?
Really thanks

I downloaded the update (6ece895ecb23.signed-nakasi-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.6ece895e.zip) to my computer and from there to the N7 via usb cable. That way I could easily check the md5 checksum and I don't always trust d/l straight to the N7 although it should work fine. You can even install the zip from the download folder.
Do you have root via Superuser or Supersu? With Supersu and ota rootkeeper (told it to backup root) I kept both root and my cwm recovery. Without them, the update will flash the stock recovery overwriting a custom recovery like cwm or twrp and you will loose root. Even so, you can re-root after getting 4.2.2 and you can install a custom recovery.
I'm not sure if Superuser or twrp recovery gives the same results as I had, but the setup I posted above works beautifully. You do need to backup root with rootkeeper before flashing the update.
i lost root after updating even with rootkeeper. i simply flashed the supersu file i already had on my sd and all is fine

I have supersu and i ve configured rootkeeper when just installed means i checked everything
So now if i download the update for nakasig and install it through cwm and then put super su.apk in root of SD and then open rootkeeper and restore root will work?

NOOB Question - OTA after rooting and TWRP

Hi all,
Sorry for the noob question.
Can I receive and install official OTA updates after rooting and installing TWRP ?
Thanks.
NO!
Ota
Oh. Can I flash the ota zip from twrp?
Kindly guide me as I am clueless.
Thanks
You can receive OTA with TWRP, but not if you're rooted. My method of getting OTA is by keeping a stock rom zip on my sd card. When an OTA comes out, I flash the zip, breaking root, boot into OxygenOS, accept the OTA, it should install, then I reboot to TWRP and flash SuperSu.
You can flash the OTA from TWRP, but when I tried that, it said I was on the correct version in about phone, but it still kept telling me there was an update available.
Here's a link to stock roms, and OTA zips.

OTA updates after root?

Hi, I have a european S8+ fully rooted and with TWRP.
Everything's working great so far but I read somewhere that I won't receive further OTA updates.
Can I install them manually with TWRP?
If yes, 3 questions:
1. Where can I get them?
2. Do I need every single update or are the newest update always containing the older updates as well?
3. Do I lose root or TWRP after installing an update?
I've rooted with Magisk by the way.
Typically if you're rooted and modified the system partition (BusyBox or twrp or whatever) the update will not install in stock recovery. Usually you have to unroot reinstall stock recovery and flash ota. There's toolkits out that can do that. Or you can just find an awesome rom like a rooted debloated rom thats just recently updated and just flash that. Or you can what till somebody snags the ota update location then posts that.

can I flash ota update in twrp?

I received ota update notification. I downloaded the zip, it is npn25-37, currently my phone is on npn25-33. I have magisk root and twrp. I wonder if I can flash the ota update zip in twrp? Thanks

It will not work, OTAs require the stock recovery. Since you hace TWRP there is also a chance that it might have mounted your system before, so your system image isn't vanilla anymore and the OTA will fail to apply. First try flashing stock recovery from here (search for the version you currently have, which is -33) https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/firmwares-moto-g5-plus-t3593160 and then apply the ota. Since the firmware you're on is quite outdated, you'll probably have a couple more OTAs on the way.
Now if that doesn't work, you'll need to back up everything you have (apps and data) and flash system, oem and recovery, and then apply the ota updates, then restore your data.

UPDATE.ZIP is corrupt

This morning i received the android 10 ota update on my k20(davinciin). I have twrp and magisk installed and since ota updates fail with twrp installed I simply unrooted my device which replaced twrp with stock recovery. On installing the OTA it says installation failed 'update.zip is corrupt'. Need help.
Why didn't you install through twrp? Just download ROM and install

Can I do that without wiping my data?
