LCD Density Changes and Results (With Pics) - Xperia Tablet Z General

While playing around with ROM Toolbox today I change the LCD density to 180 and found that everything looked much better on the tablet. In fact the status bar icons even changed to stock android. I would prefer to leave it like this except there is once thing that really I'd bugging me, the Remote Control app is all kinds of screwed up and bunched together after this mod. I currently have it at 200 dpi, but I don't like it as much and the remote is still not looking good. Screen Shots to follow.
Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk 4

180 DPI on Nova Launcher. There is a lot more screen real estate when it comes to text and pictures and such. I really enjoy this but as you can see when it comes to the remote, which I use often, its kind of a buzz kill.

Why not just set the remotes DPI separately? I don't know if the Xposed framework works on the XTZ but it and the module for changing each apps DPI individually would be worth a shot.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app

I'm not sure how compatible it is with the stock rom. Does anyone know of another way to get per app DPI, outside of paranoid android and such.
Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk 4

I am using Xposed on a full stock/rooted 311 here, works great.

Good to hear. I've had no experience with using it. How's the learning curve on it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4

I've been using the Xposed framework for a while on other devices, but I don't think there is any learning curve. Just install the Xposed Installer, use it to install the framework, and install/activate the App Settings module, from there it is quite straight forward.

So i installed the apk and ran the install script... the first two times the tablet rebooted and nothing was different. I tried it again and now im getting a bootloop... kind of a downer :/

Don't EVER install Xposed on a device unless these 2 conditions are met:
1) Custom Recovery (CWM, TWRP) installed
2) Xposed-Disabler-CWM.zip has been put in the root directory of your SD card.
Only this way you can get out of possible bootloops.

So I basically have a really stylish $500 paper weight now?

Don't listen to people just saying you are doomed. Just flash your device back to stock using the Sony repair feature of PC Suite. I could tell you how to remove it if you can get root in an adb shell too

I'm not sure my PC truly recognizes it or not... I can hear it make the USB noise but I can't find it at all. Should I be putting it into a specific mode or just do this during the bootloop?

Thats ridiculous, this is the first time I have ever heard of a device having this serious of an issue with the Xposed framework.
All the Xposed framework is is an app that allows modules to change certain things on your device without having to manually edit things.

Let us know, I have used the Xposed framework sinve the day it was released and have never had any issues whatsoever. It is really the easiest way to change things on stock roms without having to flash.

So I am still having trouble installing xposed framework. It asks for super user permission and runs through the installnbut then the device reboots with no changes. When I try to run the app settings it says framework not installed. Any ideas?

Yeah its installed but when I try to initialize it I get a messadge that says the framework is not installed. Let me see if I can screenshot it.
Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk 4

Alright this is what im looking at after I supposedly installed the framework (Hit the button not just installing the apk.)
Here is the message I get when trying to initialize the app settings module.
My guess is that when I try to install the framework the tabket goes into read/ write mode. Apparently my tablet doesnt like this because whenever I try this in root browser or es file explorer the tablet reboots immediately with no changes post reboot. Im wondering if this is a problem with only mine or all xtz's.

[HOW TO] Barclays Mobile Banking working on rooted S3

I've seen a few threads asking if it is posible to get this working on a rooted S3 so thought I'd share how I got it running. This appears to ONLY work with Barclays apps!
Software Needed:
ES File Explorer (free from Play Store)
Barclays Mobile Banking / Pingit (also free from the Play Store)
Steps:
1: Open ES Explorer options and make sure you enable 'Up to Root' & 'Root Explorer'.
2: Navigate to '/system/xbin/' and long press on 'SU' and select 'Hide' from the menu.
NOTE: if you update the SuperSU binary, you will need to do step 2 again!
That's it! No more messing around. You don't need to touch anything else before or after you open the app like temp unroot/hide root. I dont know if Barclays can solve that with an update so I don't plan on updating the app. I'm not a coder and don't know a lot about the technical details of Android so if you run in to problems I can only TRY to help you.
Thanks.

Nice tip dude, will give this a try :thumbup:
I've just downloaded SkyGo and the app opens and I get to the TV guide and get the option to watch it of I sign in. I don't have Sky so can't test any further.
I'm assuming it checks for root when it opens so I'd class that as a success!

I also obviously skipped the first steps. But did do step 3.

I have no idea why I have an SU file in the xbin folder and you don't. Sorry. I'm no expert at this, I was just playing around and Barclays then worked.
I'm curious to find out if this method has worked for any other apps though.
And I'd like to know what has created the su file. Hmmmmm. Unless the Barclays app creates it somehow and references that for its root check.
Ha, can you tell I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about???

Im in the same boat. But fair play for giving it a go. Respect for getting it to work for barclays.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Just to add to this, i've got mine working but i did it slightly differently. Whenever i disabled the GET_TASKS control, i couldn't launch the barclays app at all. It would just hang at a black screen. So i couldn't do it that way. Try this to see if it works for you too. I'm using Omega v11.1, so don't know if that will make a difference or not.
1) Download Barclays Mobile Banking App and install
2) Download Root App Delete and install
3) Open Root App Delete, Go to SysApp tab, find Super SU and select Disable
After this point, i was able to open the banking app and link my account. It's currently working fine without issue for me
Hide my root works great on an Aussie banking app. Just hide su binary & su app then use the app. Once done restore both and that's it. And it does it in just a few seconds.

Yep. Found out it works as well if I just hide su app. That way I'm still rooted and all rooted apps still work. Can even leave it that way until an app that needs root gets updated. Then I need to unhide and grant it root access then can hide again.
I tried that even when I was using the Desire HD. I tried hiding and renaming su but it was always uneffective for me although I was reading people had good look with it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Hide My Root doesn't work with the Barclays app
If you open ES then go to the options, scroll to the bottom and tick 'Root Explorer'. Have another look in the xbin folder and the su file should be there.

Xposed Framework to change app DPI

Today I tried the Xposed framework on the Galaxy Camera that I use on my Note II.
Here's the original thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012770
I wanted to see if it worked, so I could set the DPI for selected apps. You could set the DPI for the whole device in the build.prop, but that would cause certain things to not display correctly like the camera app.
Using the apk in the first post in the link above and the apk in the link below, you can specifically set the DPI for apps you want.
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/microdownloads/xposed-app-settings.5/viewfile
For example, I have replaced the TouchWiz launcher for Nova and set its DPI to 240 (see attached screenshot) this way I the nicer look this DPI gives, without the advers affect on the apps that won't scale correctly.
I haven't created anything here, just giving everyone who likes to change the DPI on their devices, the heads up that this works just fine.

They work, it just might take a few tries. Once jcase releases his updated root method it will work better since you can fully reboot without having to install xposed and soft reboot again.
Wait until we have full system write abilities. Then this should be awesome.
Does it have a Wi-Fi tether and sound state switch tile in it?

No the only two it adds are Airplane Mode and Rotate Lock.
Everything works but you must mount the system read/write and do soft reboots through the Xposed App every time it requires it instead of fully rebooting.

I've had no problem. You need to make sure you do the following
1) - Root using PwnMyMoto
2) - Confirm root
3) - Reboot into recovery (Download Holo Reboot from market to make it easier)
4) - Recovery reboot will mount RW permission
5) - Install MotoXposed
6) - Install Xposed
7) - In Xposed tap framework and Install/Update (reboot required, if it reboots on its own make sure you reboot recovery again)
8) - Then use motoxposed and make your changes and apply then reboot (remember to reboot recovery)
Should work fine now.

Motoxposed doesn't let you adjust the new settings, but the is an xposed module that will. Open the xposed app and click download. You will see a whole list of modules to load. One of them is the nfc app.
Also gravity box, another module available in the downloads, adds about 20 quick tiles and lets you customize a ton of different things. With gravity box I finally have the maxx I wanted 3 weeks ago.

How to Theme Roms that don't have Theme Chooser

Do you love the stripped down or stock based roms but miss the theming ability of CM? Yea, there is the xTheme Engine, but with limited options (they have to be converted or built for xTheme) and so-so support for 4.4 at the moment, this isn't necessarily the best option. Enter: Cydia Substrate and Winterboard. If you are know about iOS and jailbreaking, likely these sound familiar. Install Substrate : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saurik.substrate then open, link files, then reboot. Then install Winterboard and your favorite CM10 theme(s), select in Winterboard : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saurik.winterboard and reboot the SystemUI or reboot and enjoy! IF you are having issues getting Cydia Substrate to link, then make sure you open /system in a root file manager and grant it R/W access and try again. I also had luck with getting it to work after installing Xposed (they do work kind of similarly - and for some roms, I had to set R/W as well). Now, this allows you to run any CM10/11 theme, though CM10.x themes will not touch the battery icon, unfortunately. I got this to work on roms like Cataclysm and Mahdi and suspect it should work on about any rom as long as you have working root, /system as R/W and the linked files sticks. If you need more detail, lemme know and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction.
This sounds awesome!

Hmm. You're just on the stock rom? Did you get an error of some sort? Hardly any of the themes have been updated to Kit Kat. This works with CM 10 themes.
I'm on cataclysm and keep getting the same error where it says IRS installed but not activated please reboot then after the reboot it says the same thing and I can't view the gallery
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I believe that is because it has a difficult time creating the app_process type file. Did you try and make sure the /system is mounted read/write with a file explorer with root access like Root Explorer or Es File Explorer? Try that and install the Xposed beta framework too. If that doesn't work, I'll flash it and see what's up. I'm on DroidKang right now and it won't work, but it has the Theme Chooser already so doesn't matter.
Please do a step by step guide to use these apps

Awesome working great on cataclysm.
Hey!
I tested it and it won't change anything for me....
First I couldn't link it, but after installing xposed etc, this worked.
I also see and can select the theme(s) in winterboard.
But nothing happens...
Any advice?
PS: I'm also on Cataclysm Rom.
CHEERS!
UPDATE:
It seems like it was theme related. I tested another and this changed some things (even not all).
I didn't check all posts here before as I tried exactly the same as mentioned in second post
I'll test a bit more now and maybe I'll find a good one.

i know how ...
decompile system files (framework-res, systemUI, Settings...), look at the resources, understand their role (there's a plenty of tutorials on xda) and use vrthemes to make changes!

This is what i do. I ported the black infitium theme chooser to my rom. Plus i use gravitybox.
This is sick. Love it I uninstalled xposed after I got it working I didn't want to deal the battery drain problem again.

Did you just choose the theme in winter board and reboot? I can't seem to get it to theme anything on Slimkat. Not even using themes that others have gotten to work.

What have you done since obtaining root? (opinions)

Thanks to us finally being able to root, I have so far done the following:
Installed dual recovery by NUT
Backed up my TA folder
Flashed a custom boot animation
Installed root explorer
Installed titanium backup
Installed viper4android sound engine
Installed the in-call loudspeaker dual speaker mod
Removed loads of Sony/Google bloatware
Installed xposed framework
Shrunk the navbar (took up too much screen space)
Modded the hell out of the UI
Set greenify to its max settings at last!
Anyone else got any good suggestions?

I need to catch up. All I've done is install SDFix and Titanium (one-click restore is a beautiful thing). I want your nav bar icons!
Adaway, TiBu, xperia xposed, 20mp superior auto mod, chromepie.
Much better now.
... His nav bar icons are from any of the L themes. Just grab a free one from playstore. No root required.

Very nice! I love how clean your homescreen is. Can you share the icons and font used? Thanks!

For me, it was:
- Change dpi (lowered it to 280)
- Installed Xposed (oh man, I missed this) and a bunch of modules.
- AdAway (adblock plus worked, but not as great)
- Titanium Backup
- SDFix

This works with firmware .93 only.. this will not work on .77

The Icon theme is Vion - available on the play store - paid app
The font is Ubuntu - look for "Font Installer" on the play store also - free app

You need to mount system partition before it will work,
Complete walkthrough for rooting is here:

You can disregard it for the latest version of [NUT]'s dual-recovery installs just fine regardless. I've seen exactly this on my phone (D5803) as well but successfully flashed a pre-rooted .77 FW from SDcard via TWRP.

Found this thread as well but think development / progress kind of came to stand-still over there. Now, guess everyone likes to have stereo / dual speaker mode in hands-free mode on latest .77 FW, so the question is what needs to be modified in /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml and/or /system/etc/mixer_paths_auxpcm.xml (or anywhere else if that's not correct or sufficient) in order to make it happen? Devs and knowledgeable guys to the front please.
Would it be better to start a new thread on this topic?
TA Backup,
Installed Xposed Frameworks
Installed Greenify (nothing hibernated yet)
Installed XPrivacy (Denied every access, only grated after request)
Installed AppSettings (changed dpi of some apps to 270, have not decided if I will go to 270 globally, silenced some apps)
Installed Gravity Box (disabled navigation bar, activated PieControls)
next step is to delete all that bloat.
Is there a list of apps that can safely be uninstalled?

Cool! Thanks!
I suggest using disable service App! It can disable services of the app you have install, letting free some RAM! (I disable some Google services like Android Wearable, ecc!) very very useful!
Still don't know if going for the Cm12, I'll wait a stable realese first and then decide (only reason would be for the Theme Engine and the custom quick settings title!)
SD Maid App is useful for keeping clean the phone..
Xposed don't know what modules use on this Xperia, I'd like to change my lockscreen to a more Nexus style (I come from a Nexus 4).

Here you go, I have created the mod myself for FW .77 as I wanted to upgrade:
