[Q] [q] Camera failed i9500 - revisited (help) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

May I have your attention please.
Greeting to all who may be concerned or able to fix camera failed issue on Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 !!!
I know that there are other threads with similar topic, but I think we should recindle this issue as serious problem.
The story goes:
I bought slightly used S4 i9500 phone with no guarantee. It worked fine, was taking pictures and all. Splendid.
It was on some stock firmware. Some german version I think.
Then crappy and useles bloatware began to bother me. Just mountains of really crappy and uselles meaningless bloatware.
I wanted to remove that horses*it apps and therefore I rooted the phone flashing adam kernel and cofface cwm.
One lovely day i tried to take photo, camera opened with black window and showed camera failed notification with persistancy.
i flashed some newer stock firmware, it opened and was taking pictures till i tried some camera modes (action or something) and it froze with pink screen.
After that event, nothing was helpfull to fix this problem.
1. I flashed countles stock roms, nearly all available custom roms, new and old (think over 20 flashes).
2. Prior to flashing I did: Wiping dalvik, system, data, cache, preload, or full wipe, hard resets, wiping sdcard and external card.
3. Tried also nand erase (it took some time to revive phone afterwards).
4. Tried solutions like clear camera cache and data.
5. Tried turning off phone, taking battery out for some time, with full recharge,
6. Tried non stock camera apps. (e.g. camera fx, camera mx..)
7. Tried removing camera app by deleting it with titanium backup, or with root exploer - then installing it back to system apps with root explorer.
8. Tried switching sd cards- 8gb, 16, 32, 64 gb, no card, and tried settings without saving pics to sd card but internal storage.
9. Tried turning off gps, and location services
10. Tried limiting processes to 4 only.
11. Tried flashing with odin, or via cwm cofface or philz.
12. I opened phone with screwdriver to check for posible visible faults or something - all ok.
13. Flashed official firmware claimed to solve camera problems.
Maybe something more i did?- i cant remember, if i do i will notify about it.
And I ordered camera module from internet, will try to replace it - we will se what happens.
In the meantime, if someone, some wise one, genious or ordinary person, knows how to fix this persisting problem PLEASE HELP!
You will help me, and help others that have this problem.
Samsung officials, if you somehow should read this, take this into consideration. There are many eyes upon you. Provide solution for this.
Any one - SOS

FIXED IT.
Since no one cared enough to even try to help me with this problem I will not post the solution !
Said enough.

I too like you tried everything and found nothing. Camera takes forever to open. Hope you decide to share the solution.Knowledge should be shared.Don't be bitter about it.I'm sure if someone had a solution they would have posted it.
cheers.

Likewise, some people may have missed your post or nothing good to add, still I too would like to know what finally worked as I tried most of what you did.
Bests

If you have message "Camera failed"...
First of all try this: Open Camera app from the "Application manager" and do "Clear data", then restart the phone.
Second: Do a Factory reset (of course save your data!).
Third: Reinstall Android OS.
If this not help you, you have a hardware problem. You need to change the camera.

[Q] Two issues

Hello everyone!
I encountered two problems with my HD2 having installed Gingerbread 2.3.7 Nexus-HD. The first one; sometimes, I don't know sure why, and what causes this, but when I lock the phone and I try to unlock it( immediately, I didn't try to wait for longer) it doesn't unlock, but the display turns from dark(as locked) to a little bit grey, as if it would work, but I cannot see what I am doing.
The second one, sometimes, I think after I run a game, or something that requires more power and I press the HOME button, when I try to enter the Menu, it flashes continously.( as if it would change rapidly from Menu, to Home screen)
Where these problems might come from and what can I do in order to fix them ?
Really sounds like a hardware issue, try pressing the buttons hard and releasing a few times.
Did any liquid get on the phone ?

Had alot of this issue on slow dying sdcard. My experience is your card have some problems. Try to check your card windows pc, start CMD and type- chkdsk (drive letter of sd card): /x /f or try to format your card with sdformatter pc freeware.

You can try flashing the rom again. Before doing it, remeber to format your sd card. Try other roms too. If the problem persists in evry rom, then try a different sd card. after this the only problem will be your hardware.
Give a thanks if you found this Helpful
I don't think it is a hardware problem, beacause it worked all fine a few days ago, and the phone didn't took any damage in this time. I have this HD2 from a friend and when he gave it to me, I wanted to reinstall the ROM,bacause I wanted not to appear anymore his google account. I am a beginner in HTC and I installed this ROM following a tutorial, but I am not sure I did eveything all right. I wonder how I could erase everything and install a good, stable ROM from scratch, but I need an exact tutorial for this.
Meanwhile, those problem solved by themselves, but now I get the same freezing screen when I try to call or someone calls me. I can hear them, but it just freezes and I cannot do anything, unless I remove the battery. It doesn't happen all the time, but very often...
LE: Right now I'm trying another ROM, I installed a version of CWM of 150 mb( as requested by this ROM) and wiped everything and now it is installing hyperdroid CM7 v5.5.2.
I have to say that with the previous ROM I tried to remove the SD and the same error, so I thought that changing it may be a solution.

[Q] Both cameras not working

Bought an S4 last week. Everything looked good, I tested the sound, vibrate, gps etc and it all checked out. However, stupid me didn't check the camera (I know I know).
So the whole phone seems to run fine, but the camera (front and back) can't be accessed by stock or 3rd party applications. (Usually "warning Camera Failed" or something similar). I've factory reset, cleared cache and everything. I even installed the nandroid backup from a working phone, but the camera gives the same issue.
Because it's both cameras I thought it had to be software, but after all the resets and cache clears I'm starting to lean toward hardware.
Can someone give me an idea where to start? Would it be camera connectors or motherboard? Is there a sensor that may be causing this? I'd like to get an idea before I start gutting my phone.
Thanks.
Try this if it works for you?

If this does not help, clear RAM with a ram cleaner and try starting the app again?
If that does not help either..flash stock rom via oding
If that does not help..turn the phone off..charge till 100%..turn the phone on..clear the ram..and start camera..

Had this same issue a while back. What solved it for me was to re-flash the stock firmware. I too tried a nandroid backup, it didn't work but the flash did.
Turns out it was software related.
I installed a few stock firmwares that didn't fix anything. I didn't want to wait the 2 hours to download for free from Sammobile.com, but eventually i bit the bullet and got the appropriate (latest) version of my phone. After the reboot it was solved.
Granted, I tried many different firmwares, and some had the same name as the official firmware that i downloaded from sammobile but it did the trick.
Thanks for the pointers

samsung grand i9082 camera error can't open

friendz my samsung grand camera not working it giving error like can't connect to camera so tried to force stop and cleared cache and also deleted cache partition from recovery and rooted also and installed cm13 6.0 to it but still getting error like can't connect to camera ,so suggest me some tricks,
Try removing battery for 10 seconds then put it back in, see if it works. If not, try reflashing a firmware

This error appeared randomly or you had any issues flashing? Maybe you dropped it and caused hardware damage?
If it's a software issue, refreshing to your stock rom should fix it so if you have already tried that it is probably a hardware related issue.
Well pulling out the battery trick worked for me and my two friends with the same camera problem, I suggest it to others as will, please try it before going to the extreme of flashing firmware.
thank you guys it really helped me, I found that its hardaware issue and i solved now my phone's camera working fine ,thank you. once again,,

Problem with the camera

PLEASE READ!!
Hello everyone! I have been facing a serious problem for a while now. I get a warning when i try to take a picture using the stock camera app. I can actually take one or two photos but then the phone crushes,a warning pops up and then the phone restarts. I searched a lot on the web but i didn't actually find the exact same issue. Many people complained about this and had a black screen whenever they open the camera app. I don't get black screen but the camera app crushes whenever i try to shoot. I tried all the suggested solutions but they were all in vain. The same thing happens with the front and rear camera. I really don't think it is a hardware problem because this happens with the official firmware and the touchwiz based roms. I had the same issue with the resurrection remix camera(no warning, the phone just restarts) but i found solution with lineage os 14.1 camera!! The camera actually works with lineage os. I ve been using it for a while now but we all know that it is so basic and incomparable with the stock camera.
Anyone having the exact same issue?
If it's not a hardware problem, have you tried doing a hard reset?
This will restore your phone to its initial, factory settings. Thus, any third-party apps or issues your phones is having will be erased.
Factory reset steps: https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/how-to-make-a-hard-reset-for-samsung-phones/
I tried all the suggested solutions in the android forums: factory reset, wipe cache, settings reset... None of them worked.
Did you drop this device or sat on it?
Try to take it to a phone repair shop and see if they can fix it.
Install a third party camera app from the play store and try (install few apps cameras) , if it works it's not a hardware issue, if your camera fails again it is passible a hardware problem.
I m sure it is a software problem. How can i fix that? Don't tell me to do a factory reset. I rooted my device. Is there any solution to do through the app systems or something. Can rooting actually help me fix that? How can i access all the camera related system files?
I hope you understand what i m trying to say

Try a free camera app, a custom Rom or just reflash your software with Odin. If the crash still happens it's a hardware bug, sorry.
I tried to flash with odin and use a free camera app. I had the warning in both of them. I tried many costom roms but the only working one is LineageOS 14.1 but the camera is so basic...

I still think this is a weird hardware bug, but try to install zero camera mod, maybe this will fix it somehow, or try a new micro SD.

Flashlight being used by another app. Camera doesn't work

After flashing the unbranded firmware and rooting the phone, I'm not able to use the camera app. Opening it just says "Camera Failed. In the slide down menu, the flashlight icon is turned on even though I'm not actually using the flashlight. and I cant turn it off either. How do I fix this?
I've tried: clearing data & cache of camera app, clearing the cache partition, setting default settings of the camera app, changed camera storage from SD card to internal & vice versa

Sucks no one responded to your post. I rooted my sons S7 Edge and sometime after it acquired the same issue yours has/has. I had another S7 Edge phone so I ended up rooting that one and giving it to him. I still have his old one with the camera fail issue but I've yet to try to figure out what caused it to happen. I know my response doesn't help with info or duration from OP post to reply, I just wanted to let you know that your post wasn't ignored by everyone. Unfortunately I have nothing substantial to contribute.

So I ended up putting that phone back to stock then rooting it again and it had the exact same issue yours has. I did a clean root too and the issue is still present. From there I decided to again run it back to stock and this time do a nand erase all and repartition the device. After all was finished I checked the device and I'll be goddamned... it still has the same issue. So if the problem persists after all that reformatting is it safe to say that it's a hardware issue? I'm out of ideas. Sorry I couldn't help you.

you guys offer little information at all so this is why no one helps you. Maybe tell what firmware version you flashed what root version you did etc. There is a big difference between bootloader revB/11 and the others
Holy ****. Did I just get constructive suggestions from jrkruse?! Dude if you told me I could fix my phone by sucking a fart out of a wallaby's ass I'd do it cuz the advice came from you, and if there's one thing I know it's that you know your ****. You're ****in' awesome. I feel so special now. Ok sorry about that...
Well, I'm not too sure about the OP but I can tell you about the phone I have that seems to have the same issue.
My S7 Edge is a SM-G935V on android 7.0 on update 4BQK2. Prior to rooting I put everything to stock then I did a NAND erase and repartition. No issues with any of that.
I rooted my phone from this post
G935V Root Method. No Lag! No Heat!
G935V Root Method. No Lag! No Heat!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF YOUR ISSUES! ALL I CAN DO IS RECOMMEND A GOOD PSYCHOLOGIST! Hey guys. Stumbled on this by accident. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHY IT WORKS, BUT IT DOES. THE METHOD HAS BEEN TESTED BY ME AND A FEW OTHER PEOPLE HERE...
forum.xda-developers.com
which directs to your older method for gaining root privileges.
[DISCONTINUED] ROOT Method For Nougat
DISCONTINUED New Thread Found Here This Root Method For S7 Nougat Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2.zip Includes Fingerprint Fix [Latest Verison] Nougat_S7_Root_2_81_All_Carriers_V2.zip Includes Fingerprint Fix Nougat_S7_Root_2_79_All.zip...
forum.xda-developers.com
I also flashed Unzip the Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2.
Then I flashed the BL file in the BL slot from the G935U firmware with odin checking "Phone Bootloader Update". I used the BL file from G935UUES4BRA1 since it's the closest update for the U brand to the firmware this phone is on (G935VVRU4BQK2)
I'm aware that there are newer methods for gaining root access but I chose this method cuz I used it back in 2017-2018, I had read all the posts in the thread, and I knew it worked.
I currently have 3 S7 Edge phones all on the same firmware and build and are all rooted with the same combo method I just explained. The other 2 phones also have xposed installed and they both work well.. expect mine says weird stuff instead of the callers information. I think it only does it if they're a contact but in the notification tab it says an example like this 5556661234;verstat=No-TN-Validation. No clue how to fix that.
The phone that is having the same issue as the OP still had access to the private/secure folder when it was rooted; which I thought was weird cuz mine doesn't and from what I understood private mode gets disabled if the phone's rooted. Maybe it only gets disabled if you install xposed? I don't know. My son had the phone with the issue and it was his first smart phone and he dropped it a few times (with a case) so I was thinking it's an effect from something he downloaded from the play store (he's 20 now but pretty still very ignorant with android). Now I'm not sure if it's a software or hardware issue since the problem persisted after the NAND erase.
Something to note about my sons old phone also is that it has 2 thin pink lines running down one side of the screen (defective/dead pixels) and when the screen turns off it it flashes once before actually turning off. One time over the phone I tried troubleshooting the issue with him and he ended up being able to use his camera immediately after rebooting the phone though once he exited the camera app it wouldn't open again. We were trying a bunch of things, force closing any app I thought would be related to the issue. Not sure what allowed it work when it did, but even now right after a reboot the camera app still crashes.
This was long ago, I've since lost the phone. But, I was on the A bootloader and on OREO rooted using @/billa's method using an ENGboot file. I tried everything possible to get the camera to work including flashing back to stock but nothing helped. I just gave up finally. @kanesglove maybe try safely updating the firmware. Hope it helps
