Wowzers - battery life! - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Run down after first charge with all this and more :
- Ingress which kills battery
- ChromeCasting
- YouTube and Netflix
- Feedly and Chrome
- listening to music and podcasts via Bluetooth for long periods
- Reading in Kindle
- Downloading and playing with many apps
Etc
Overall I would categorize as very heavy use. I still have 15% left and I'm thrilled.

Mobile signal is a huge battery drainer if you're in an area with poor reception, WiFi only is a huge plus for the battery.

O my. I thought i was the only one that had excellent battery life. I am currently at 8 hours standby time and 5 hours of Screen on usage and have 52% battery left. I would post a screen shot before the battery is completely drained

This may be good from gen 1, but to competition.....my mini is 5 days standby , 8hrs used with 25% left.

Granted, cell radio and modem could lead to a faster rate of battery depletion. The original nexus 7 wifi only version had a bigger battery but the battery wasn't close to the results i am currently getting on the New Nexus 7. Best guess is that the new cpu chip is highly efficient

Nexus 7 cpu is more like an underclocked snapdragon 600, than an s4 pro. It supports ddr3 ram and has krait 300 cores, unlike the n4

No....
The 7-inch Nexus 7 houses a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro system on chip with a quad-core Krait CPU and a single-core Adreno 320 GPU.
The original ;1.30GHz Nvidia Tegra 3
Not the same....at all....

Incorrect. It does not use the same CPU at all. The naming scheme for Qualcomm has gotten out of whack.

That is impressive... As long as my battery lasts a day I'm happy. No problem for me to charge at night. Anything more is nice but doesn't affect me one way or the other.

Lol read carefully, they were comparing to the n4

My battery life isn't that great but I was doing quite a few things. Also Magic 2014 is quite the battery suck.

You are referring to an 8inch device with a lack luster 1024x768 screen. Being 8 inches it has a larger battery as it can fit more battery than a 7inch form factor.
iPad mini battery = 4490 mah (powers crappy screen)
Nexus 7 (2013) battery = 3950 mah (powers 1920x1200 screen)
You tell me which should have more battery life?

Nexus 7 crazy battery drain

Well, you still got 97% >_>'
Do you really think that the battery would drain intense after such a small drop? This isn't crazy.

That gives you 4.5 hrs of use until it gets to 0%. So depending on what you are doing maybe that's actually OK. Post back once it hits 0% with the actual screen on time.

Referencing the Nexus 7 Guidebook, the claim is not 9 hours, but rather up to 8 hours of active use. As with any consumer electronics, that represents optimal conditions. Your screen brightness setting, what you, really doing, etc, are amongst the many variables that will affect battery drain. Having the screen on full bright is with white backgrounds is going to drain a battery exponentially faster than low brightness with darker images.

It's called 'saving power'.
As long as it doesn't lag and clocks itself up to maximum when required, there's nothing to worry about.
Or you can get some CPU clock app and set it on maximum performance. But don't be surprised if you can boil eggs on it then and the battery dies in 2 hrs :good:

clear the data for tkt and reboot. if you are using tkt, you dont need a powerhal script, since tkt runs it automatically after opening it.
Does Tegra 3 really need overclocked? Having used Tegra 2 I can say that could definitely use a little bump but so far T3 is keeping up with me and I can see a big difference between T2 and T3. Makes me wonder what T4 Wayne has in store.

Battery life

How's everyone's battery life? My Nexus 4 loses about 3% a minute on 4G...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Depends on how much I use the phone. I've gone 36 hours without a charge but that was a slow day of use for me.
Under extreme use, I've charged 2 times in a day lol. That quad core can really suck up the poower

New maps update?

Has anyone heard of this or downloaded it? Its apparently just for *bug fixes* I wonder if this fixes some of the map draining issues.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
There is no "battery drain" with the app itself. What you are seeing is the location services. It shows up as maps in the battery monitor.
The more location services you have activated, the more you will see battery usage.

Yea I know that but even when I had maps and Google now active on my old Gnex my battery life wasn't hit anywhere near as bad as it is on the N4. I'm sure many can attest to that. That's why I was wondering.
Could it be more do to the os running on the N4 different than the nexus?

It's the way the kernel is developed. When you touch the screen on stock kernel, it ramps up the frequency to 1000.
And some people saying that min freq is 1000 and max freq is 1500
I've haven't noticed much difference between the gnex and N4 with maps usage. I have noticed that turning off latitude and "report from this device" drastically lowers battery usage.

Well that was the first thing I noticed when I was using it. The maps would drain and GPS would get stuck and still gets stuck on with certain apps. So I just turn off and force close maps now and my battery is much better. Not great but better.

Battery life N2 vs N3

I was the owner of Note2 before. And now Note3.
Is it just me or anyone of you agree that the batt drain faster than Note2.
I test it with stock unrooted, no additional program installed, same 4.3 stock Sammy.
The N2 is using 4.3 leak but the batt can last for 1.5day with moderate usage.
But N3 can barely sustain a half day for light usage.
Both WiFi on, both no apps installed, no root.
Anyone notice similar?
It has been reported that the gnote2 has better battery life. Still rocking mine.

Now rooted and also underclocking to 1.5Ghz max.... Still batt is crazy....
Also if BBM is active, its hogging up resource....
What's your model number?
I wonder is the snapdragon version have better batt than exynos...
D**n internet.... made double post....
Strange. In my case its 20% better. Try to lower the brightness and turnoff all animations.

Having owned a note 2 and now a note 3 I must say the note 2 has a better batterylife imo. Both rooted and undervolted. Pretty much the same apps as well such as greenify etc. It ain't a very big difference tho, in my case.

and not mention to memory leak.... touchwiz alone eats 400Mb RAM with 2 home pages...
And by that 2 home page, it only contain samsung's accuweather widget and S Planner widget....
So crazy.....
RAM keep floating at 200Mb....
My note 2 was def better on battery..I had to buy the sammy spare battery and charger kit for my note 3 if that tells you anything.
I honestly expected better in this regard
