Can anyone comment on backlight bleed, color (gamut), and tint? - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I'm just curious how the panel looks in terms of black levels, backlight bleed, etc. as compared to the pervious model and/or other tablets. I had terrible bleed on my old N7s.

I'm not as anal as most people on this forum, but I did exchange a first gen due to light bleed, and I'm satisfied with the amount of light bleed on this second gen. Not the best I've seen, but certainly tolerable.

bleed on the top of mine... both I had have this.

The screen is much better than the last one, the light bleed is minimal, no real bright sports to speak of. At extreme angles it looks to me that it almost has a red tint, but that might just be me.

mine is more of a yellow, warm tint compared to my last Gen n7

My bleed is only on the very top, too.

Same here with the light bleed. Definitely not as bad as the first generation

Light bleed

Is any one getting a light bleed in the bottom left corner? Its not massive just annoying. How much light bleed should be expected?

Yes, my screen doesn't fit quite right on the left side. When on a plain black background the light bleed on the left corner gets much worse when touched. I've requested a replacement.
UPDATE: Mine seems better now
Getting the screen to click in has reduced the bleed.
Think I will too. Really annoying.

There were similar problems with the Asus TF01, it will probably get worse with use. I hope these are isolated instances.

I got really bad backlight bleed on the bottom left as well. Wouldn't be as much of a problem but the bottom of the screen always has the black button bar so the bleed is always visible (i.e. lighter colors don't show bleed as much).
No light bleed on mine at all.

I've got some bleeding in my bottom left corner too. It's not too bad but it's a little annoying. Everything else is perfect so I'm wondering if I should risk exchanging it.

Btw, here's a good app to test if you have any backlight bleeding.

White spots on the bottom

New Nexus 7 tonight, I notice white spots on the bottom (right side of screen), see picture.
Confirmed with another nexus 7 owner they didn't have those spots...
Is this normal or should I RMA it?
that is called "light bleed". I don't know the extend of damage that it will do if you keep this nexus 7..
but if I were you..I will just return and get another nexus 7 with no light bleed .....
almost all tablets have had this problem...including the ipads....

Yes... not normal light bleed. Looks like they didn't align something right.

Question on display, please

Sorry, on a black background you can see the glow of the light bulb as to form a stain?
I would not be just my problemi

It looks the same as every IPS monitor ever.
Great color, great brightness, but mediocre blacks when viewed from the side
If you mean light bleeding or bad panel uniformity, yes most (if not all) have that.
R: Question on display, please
And so the infiltration of light from the top of display is normal?

Yes it's normal on IPS screens. The degree that it "infiltrates" varies between devices. my First Nexus 4 had backlight bleeding that was more obvious then the replacement device I have now. The replacement's back light bleeding is barely noticeable.
I've owned various devices with IPS screens
Asus Transformer TF101 (I've handled about 5 different devices)
Asus Transformer Prime (handled about 3 devices)
Asus Transformer Infinity(handled just the one I owned)
LG G2X (Had multiple replacments)
Nexus 4
Nexus 7(handled 3: 2 32gb HSPA+ and 1 16gb Wifi)
All had some light bleeding to a certain extent or another. Some being much worse than others.
I have a RMA for a 3rd Nexus 4 (The one I have now I love, hardly any backlight bleeding and everything is great except there is this one dark vertical line from top to bottom of the screen that you can see on white/gray backgrounds. My original Nexus 4 didn't have any of that)
If my 3rd has worse backlight bleeding than the one I currently have I might just deal with the dark line on the screen on white/gray backgrounds on my current device as that's the ONLY thing that bugs me about it.

Can you see my display please?

[Q] Any Nexus 4's Without Backlight Bleed?

I've already tried out 3 brand new Nexus 4's, and they all exhibit light bleed around the top right corner.
I know, I know; I'm being obsessive or nit-picky. But, just humor me for a second, and chime in on the topic....
Anybody got a Nexus 4 without any lightbleed whatsoever? You should be comfortable around 30-50% brightness and have no uneven backlighting around the top border....
Does a perfect Nexus 4 even exist?
Thanks fellas
No bleeding here

No bleeding here mines the first batch HW Revision 10 :good:
No such issue here.

No idea what you're talking about. But maybe I'm not OCD enough.

I swear my Nexus 4 is the best phone I've had! Better than the SG3 and the One X I've owned! BTW no light bleed on mine.

Minor light bleed at the top & bottom.. although it is very minor. I really have to try to see it. I would say for a normal person, they would think it has "no light bleed". But to us perfectionists yes it's there.
I know this is asking a lot, but would someone with a perfect device mind posting a pic with your brightness turned up with your notifications dropped down?
No bleeding here either and I'm on Rev 11
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Lots of light bleed here in the top right corner. Nov 2012 version, rev10
Don't really care though.
No bleed and I bought mine at an insanely bright tmobile at sunset.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Maybe for some of the people who say they have a perfect device, just dont notice it or their brightness is too low..
someone, please, put my OCD worries to rest and snap a shot of your phone with no lightbleed with the notification dropped down with at least 50% brightness.
I will be in your debt.
Is this what your looking for? Sorry I'm half ass sleeping right now.

Thanks for the effort.... but taking a screenshot takes a shot of the software... backlight bleed is hardware..

Screen quality, yellow tint?

Hi
Currently got an S4 and I'm looking to replace it as I use it a lot for movie watching and magazine reading and the slight yellow tint to the s4 screen really annoys me.
Seeing as the note 3 has a similar screen, but just slightly larger, can people confirm whether the note 3 suffers the same inaccurate whites/yellow tint?
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I don't know what yellow tint you're talking about but my S4 didn't have it nor does my N3. I dont use adapt display and my screen mode is set to dynamic
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk 4
It's when viewing whites my s4 has a decidedly warm colour to it so whites look dirty and slightly yellowy. It's a well reported characteristic of the s4 although probably didn't affect every single one.
Just want to know if the note 3 solves this by having cool whites as opposed to warm. Maybe personal preference but I much prefer a cooler display.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I have noted it but just in the movie mode, in dynamic and standard it seems a little bluer to me but it's personal opinion. But I have to say damn this is a beautiful display worth the choice of the phone by itself
Sent from my SM-N900 using xda app-developers app
That's good. As long as some of the modes have a cooler tint I'll be happy. The green/yellow tinge is just a bugbear of mine.
Thanks for the replies.
