too late to buy a nexus 10? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So looking to buy a new tablet. Been looking at the nexus. But has it been out long enough that I should wait for the new version of it? Should I maybe look at something else?
What would you guys do?

Normally I'd say buy it but if you wait till fall there will be plenty of New tablets in the market to choose from and there are already new tablets out with the same resolution as nexus 10. The nexus 10 is still the best at its price though so if you want a Tablet now I'd buy it because this baby will still last fir a couple years for me at least 2. If you can wait though you'll probably find something better soon

I looked around and only saw the toshiba excite pro out currently. And I returned that tablet. It was crap. That is why I was asking about the nexus.

Well for me the nexus 10 is great. It plays games awesome and movies look great in it. Just buy a pogo charger because stock charger is really slow and you'll be good to go with it. Though the galaxy tab 3 was announced so you might want to check it out but the specs aren't any better then the nexus 10. I'd say wait for a couple more people's opinions and see what they say

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 V Tegra 3 Device

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 OR Wait for Tegra Three devices?
I would also allow for you to suggest other devices but please only android and please only 10 inch tablets.
Also the new tegra three devices might not be as thin or good-looking as the samsung which i really care about.
The only reason i like tegra is because of the support it has in the android app developing community so please try to keep the suggestions to tegra devices unless you have a good reason to contradict it.
This is simple for me.
If you can wait, wait.
If not go for it.
I couldn't wait
If you can wait, it means you will NEVER buy a device lol. When Tegra 3 devices come out, Tegra 4 will be announced. I passed on the galaxy tab to wait for a tegra 2 device and now I hear nvidias "Kal-El" quad core. **** it! I'm going for the Gtab!
lol might as well buy the Samsung now and then sell it once the new one you like comes out. But its true, do you really want to keep waiting? Not I, I'm jumping on June 8th.
Personally I would get one now. You can play the waiting game and never get one as there is always a better one around the corner. You can of course wait but I suspect that you won’t see many better or 4 core tablets announced until CES 2012 next year.

No, if you can wait, it means.... you can wait! I don't know about the rest of you, but I've lived my life just fine without a table. It will be a cool toy to have, but I don't NEED one. Tech gadgets are always progressing, but the tablet market is currently moving at a very fast pace. Tegra 3 is supposed to be out later this year, and is supposed to be 5x the performance. That's a much more significant performance/time ratio than other more "mature" tech products. If you can wait, then there's certainly something to be said for jumping on when the curve flattens out a little. What I do will depend a lot on pricing.
i think it's worth waiting... tegra3 pre production chips allready shipped to manyfacturers, mass production starts around august. motorola and probably asus will be releasing products short after ( promising releases before back-to-school time )
this means that you can, in theory, own a quad core beast in within 3 to 4 months months...
and they are realy fast, throw your pc and your mediaplayers out of the window and start using your tablet instead
perhaps you can invest in a program like best buy's buy back program, so when something new comes out, you can trade in your old and get the new for cheap

If you pay attention to the market it doesn't look that way. I personally think we wont see anything better then whats out now until next year. Most of these company's still need to make money off the products that are currently on the market.
Take Samsung for example, think of the time and money that has been spent building and promoting their new tablets around the world. I really don't see them coming out with any new tablets at the end of the year even if they had the new teleology. they first need to make a profit.

Asus, Motorola, and Amazon (and probably others) are all rumored to have Tegra 3 tablets by the end of the year. You can't make much money off of the products you currently have on the market if they are obsoleted by new products your competitors are offering.
I'm going to revise my initial answer.
If you're asking the question "Should I wait?". You should wait.
After the iPad released last year, I started trying to imagine, what exactly I would use a tablet for. Once I was a bit settled on what I wanted to do with it, I started looking for something that would match my needs.
When the 10.1v was announced I realised it was a match and I eagerly went after it.
Maybe you should wait until you are certain that the tablet you are buying is a match for your requirements.

lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I run the 10.1v and love it.
Things it is:
-light
-sexy (please no 3.5mm jokes)
-brilliant batery (i charge it each night but it only gets down to 30-50% after full day of use)
-netbook replacment (people will argue this but i haven't found a netbook more fun then this, and you can put debian on it )
-casual gaming (not sure of anything on the market you cannotplay onit except porley designed games that are just tiny boxs)
Things it isn't:
-high def cinema (you can run standard def fine and it looks great but if you are obsesd with 720P wait)
-ipad (yer thats a pritty good reason )
-high end device (tegra 2 is fun and all but nexus s still out performes all tegra 2 devices so if you want the bigest and best wait for qualcomm)
In conclusion if you want a great device that doesn't need to be compared to a PC (which i hate that thats were we uave goten in tablets) then go pick one up, but if your after a device that you want to luanch thermal nucular war with wait for qualcomm.

Ahh. You're more into the 30 pin connector then?
I'll stop short of making a crack about the shape of said connector
I was really looking forward to GT10.1 but no luck.
It has Tegra 2 inside which is no good for me and has no sd slot which is also no good for me.
I do want a tablet like this but I do have a purpose in getting one - it has to replace my netbook.
Meaning I want to watch 720p mkv without re encoding, netflix, etc...
So far non of the tablets (including iPad2) can do what I want.
If I would be to take one now just to have it Asus Transformer seems like a better choice.
There is an sd slot on it, there is a great dock with batt. for it and looks like it will be/is cheaper.

As far as i know, the Xoom plays 720p mkv with Moboplayer just fine. I haven't tested this myself but i have read about it in Xoom forum.
If you want, i can test this for you, just point me to a video to test.
And 3G GT10.1 has a sdcard slot.

What Android tablet are you getting and why?

So I told myself, "Self what I really want for this Christmas is an Android tablet".
Now I would like to know which Android tablet you people are planning to get by Christmas. I know tablets are gonna be the top thing to get then so I could see competition stepping up. I'm gonna want a wifi only one with the option to tether my Vibrant to it (yes Im planning to still have at least one of my Vibrants by then). I know the Ipad2 and the HP pad seem a lil ahead of the game compared to the Android tablets but I'm sticking to Android cuz I want to have the freedom to customize it like I did this Vibrant. Do not reply if your NOT getting an Android tablet please.
So which Android tablet are you getting and why?

Funny you ask, I've only ordered mine (a first for me and a new one too) from Ebay just a couple days before. Aaaaaand it's a ViewSonic G tablet.
Why you ask? Well for 3 main reasons; The 10.1 inch screen, the Unmatched Dev community it flashes (only 2nd to the 7" Galaxy tab) and the great price....Im getting this for as low as 250$ with a 16gb sd and a screen protector. Couldnt have asked for a better really.
Oh and did I mention the rush of a flashmania circling through my system since I received shipping details, CRAAAAZY
If I get one it's probably going to be the asus eepad or the acer iconia, just because they're the cheapest 10" honeycomb tablets. I'm still hoping for touchpads to come back in stock though........
I'm waiting to see what comes with Ice cream sandwich and how it changes things.

Outside of watching video on Netflix in bed because I don't want to move my XB360 into the bedroom, I don't see a reason to even look at a tablet, TBH. They're overhyped devices that don't offer much more than Smartphones in a more restrictive form-factor. That's the only reason I'm thinking about it, and that's why the crappy 1st gen Samsung Tab would be more than good enough for me.
I don't trust those cheaper brand, TBH...

Not sure if it will be on a tablet by then but I would think if the Prime is supposed to come out then I wouldn't be surprised to see a tablet came out around then. If I had to buy one now I would get the Asus transformer. I really like the idea of the keyboard dock.

Funny cuz the main reason I want one is cuz I like watching Netflix or Hulu in bed b4 crashing out for the night since its the only time in the day (or night) I get to watch anything. Pretty much the same for me. Maybe I'll look into a 11.6" notebook and get a cooling pad for it. That may be cheaper than a tablet, even... And certainly more useful.

i already have a gslate, if i knew the galaxy tab was coming to tmo, i would've waited.. Gslate's bootloader is locked.. Blecchh.. Samsung have the decency to not to lock their devices.
It's like lg thinks gslate users are dummies or something.. Lol
No, it's like LG and T-Mobile don't want to blow their cash on unnecessary support to customers who brick their phones and then lie about it.

Is Iconia 500 worth it?

I want to buy a Acer Iconia a500, I used one once that was bricked, I managed to fix it, there is even a guide I made of how to do it, however I didn't use the tablet when I fixed it, for that, I want to know how it performs and if it's good today.
Thanks for all.
That's a tough question to ask a year and almost 1/2 from the initial release. It is still a good device to own, BUT I personally would look at the alternatives in terms of purchasing it at this point.
There's no way I would go out and buy another Acer Iconia A500, is what I'm saying. There are several devices with more powerful processors and better screens out now that are selling for the same price as an Iconia A500 commercially. That being said, you'd have to be looking for something awfully specific to choose it over something "better" and the only thing that comes to mind that differentiates it from the others is a built in USB port.
I <3 the usb port. It's too bad the A510 and A700 don't have it. I agree with Neoprimal, though. If you want a tablet, I would look at something like the transformer infinity or if you feel like it, you could wait for the Nexus 10, but that might take a while...
Alright guys, then I will save money for better high-end tablet, but really I would like to wait little more till Windows 8 tablets go out, so I will test them and choose between Android or Windows 8 even though I cannot compare a full OS with Android but let's see...
My A500 is my work tablet. I use it for the databases I use on the job. I also use it to offload pictures from my camera between shoots. And, with the 64gb micro-sdxc card, I have a ton of movies, music, and TV shows stored. It's a solid, reliable, versatile tablet.
I also have a Nexus 7. The Tegra 3 system is fast and Jelly Bean is great... but it's more of a toy than a serious tablet.
The microsoft surface will be pretty interesting. Depending on the price tag, it has a lot of potential.

It comes down to price - I snagged my current 501 for one hundred dollars, so to me it was a great deal for even a year old tablet. I would say the a500 is probably good value at 250 US, but nothing more.

I also would look somewhere else. Personally I would go for the Nexus 7 at this point if I were in the market, precisely because its more of a toy. I used to use my tablet for work (the USB port and big screen are great and I've seriously dropped it a few times with minimal damage) however, now I've switched to using my phone for notes and todos and I have less need for these things. So I know what you mean about the A500 being good for work but I want a toy (development, screen size, nexus name)

Indeed. The ipad is a different tablet altogether, particularly if you are looking for a reliable, curated ecosystem. On the other hand, the Android tablets are great fun to play around and customize to your hearts content, as long as you are willing to read blogs/sites, make backups, etc. Personally, it's a hobby so I enjoy it. However for my parents, it's an iPad no question.

I bought one today for $125. Pretty good tablet, but I wouldn't spend more than what I did for it. Probably gonna load it up with games and books and give it to my son.
I adored my a500 last summer when I first got it, but I noticed it gets a bit wonky after about a year of use. I use mine daily. Reading, games, email, surfing, etc. Luckily I was able to exchange for a new one and that froze on startup screen after a month. It was "gently used" . I am wondering if I have bad tablet luck or the tab just konks out after a period of time for whatever reason.
I now have another "gently used" one while they are trying to fix my old one that froze on startup screen.
It seems to be working well.
I am considering the Nexus 7. I love the camera in my a500 and ability for SD card and installing my USB keyboard.
Guess I gotta make the good ol' pro's and con's list huh?

I use both my A500 and my Nexus 7 daily. The Iconia, I've had about a year and a half, and it's been trouble-free. No idea why you seem to be having a string of problems with them. The Nexus 7 is a look at what the next-gen Android tablets will be. They literally make the iPad look silly.
I bought a password locked A500 for $155 on Ebay. If you find something for that price go for it. A ten inch name brand tablet is a great steal for that price. Plus the development community is great, with Jellybean in the works. Plus it has over clocking, which this tablet already out performs my expectations especially being over a year old and running a Tegra 2. It's a solid tablet, I use it for typing my papers and doing my research at my university, and if you don't plan on doing anything ridiculously graphically intensive it will suit all your needs just fine.

[Q] Note2 Owner. Do I need a 7'' Nexus? Screen Issues resolved?

Hi guys, I really need some advice on this one otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. I read a similar thread before but I wanted to ask something else too.
I own a 17'' laptop and a Galaxy Note 2 (I use it a lot for work, those 5.5'' really help me) and never considered a tablet until the Nexus 7 came out, basically because of the price. However since I had previously a Note "1" I thought that 5'' vs 7'' wasn't much of a difference and the screen issues pulled me off. Now that a 32gb is basically confirmed and at the same price as the 16gb I am again (and this time seriously) considering it. I live in South America so I can't rely on warranty, 15 days return or stuff like that. I buy from amazon/ebay and that's it. I get what I get, I fix it if it has a fixable issue.
TL;DR:
1) Were the screen issues just a first batch problem or are they still as common as when the N7 launched? I don't mind a DIY fix though.
2) From 5.5'' should I really go the extra mile to 7''? I want to surf the web, check news and mails basically. No need for 3G data.
3) Should I consider a 10'' tablet instead, even at a higher price? For the record my GF iPad 2 doesn't inspire me at all but maybe because of iOS.
Thanks in advance. I really want a taste of Paranoid Android on a Nexus 7. Loved it on the Note 1 and can't wait for it to arrive on the Note 2 if ever.
I think you are misusing the word "need" here. If you have a laptop, and a 5" screen phone, I would say that you have zero "need" for the n7
Why don't you wait til the Nexus 10" is released. It would probably be better than a 7" considering that you have a note

Skip the N7. I have a GS3 and N7 - concerning the N7, other than light kindle use, I can rarely think of a "need" for it.
Thanks for your POV, it really helps me. The reason I am considering the N7 is basically price. I don't like to pay 500 bucks for a tablet, that's why I don't have one. But put 250 for a really good one and things start looking different. Sometimes I want a bigger screen to check the news, read ebooks, and my laptop is too big (17'' is OK as a desktop replacement, not so fun when you just want to hang around your house or read on the couch) and my Note maybe too small, that's where a 7'' would enter. I'll wait, I have no rush, see what the Note 10 brings to the table in terms of specs and price. But I value your opinions.
Does anyone know if the screen issues have been resolved (first batch problem) or still persists in new shipments? Thanks a lot for your answers and please forgive my english

I have a GS3 as well and the note 1 is way bigger than our 4.8" screen.
Definitely don't see a need for a n7 if you have a Note π.
Now a 10 tablet....maybe.

and my Note maybe too small

Yes,he said that.
He actually went on ahead n posted that his damn 5.5" 720p screen is too small.
No,seriously.
THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Wait to see if the nexus 10 is announced on the 29th

As a Note 2 owner, I'm waiting for the 29th announcements and then I'll decide. I'd prefer to get a 10" nexus tablet since I have a 5.5" phone.

I think you should wait for the Nexus 10. I have a Nexus 7 now but I plan on getting the Note 2 after its released here in the US and sell my Nexus 7 and get the Nexus 10 when it comes out.
Thanks guys. I'll wait for the October 29th anouncements and then decide. You've been very helpful =)
P.S: 5.5'' is superb for a samrtphone, not so great for ebook readings. You always want something bigger

[Q] Buy used 1st Gen N7 or wait?

So I'm wondering if I should buy a used 1st gen N7 or wait for the new one. Currently, I'm not planning on doing anything too graphics or processor intensive on it. I'm just sick of having to use a light for my Kindle Touch and not being able to do anything else but read on it. Plus I would like to carry around something smaller than my 15" laptop to class to take notes using Quickoffice Pro or OneNote. I just bought an Inland flexible keyboard and I want to hook that up to the N7. Anyways, I found one that's been rooted and is selling for $140 in good condition. I also saw a couple that were selling at about that price point, a little higher and lower.
The question is: Is it worth it to buy the new-gen N7 instead of spending less on a used N7 if the current one's processor and screen (I'm pretty careful with phones, cameras, and computers; i.e. I don't drop them at all) might be all that I need? I understand that it's most likely going to be faster and even have improved battery life, which would be useful if I play some Android games on there. I might play some graphics intensive games once I actually get the device in front of me, but I'm most likely going to be using it purely for e-reading, maybe watching the occasional movie/video, browsing the web, and email. And from what I've heard, the N7 doesn't lag too much unless you're running multiple apps/tasks or doing something that requires a lot of processor speed.
If all you are looking for is an e-reader, the original Nexus 7 performs that job just as well as any tablet out there. The only thing that the 2nd Gen will have that you would benefit from is a higher resolution screen, but the screen on this is no slouch either.
If the price is right, go for it. $140 is right on the edge for me though, I would be curious if it would be wiser to spend $50 bucks more to avoid any "used" headaches.
Just be aware that a new one is coming, and when it does this model will drop in price. As long as you are OK with that fact, go for it!
Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. I just happened to see a 32 gb month-old Nexus 7 for $180 and I'm trying to see if the seller is willing to drop the price a bit, maybe by like $10 or something. If not, it seems like it would still be a good deal.
Like I said though, I'm only thinking of using it as an e-reader for now because I don't have it in front of me. Once I do, I might be tempted to do a lot more with it, though I'm not sure if I'll be pushing it so much that I would want to get a faster processor.
Which brings me to another question: What kinds of activities do you do on your Nexus 7 that makes it lag and you wish, "If only it had a faster processor and more RAM"?
All of my wha!!??
There is a new nexus 7 now?
I Googled it and found nothing but rumours...
Please could someone enlighten me?
There is already a thread on this topic if you look near the top of this forum.
Have you noticed any lag on your Nexus 7? For instance, does using OneNote, Quickoffice Pro, and Chrome with 5 or so tabs stress it or does it still run smoothly?

Interesting.. I didn't know that lol. Well, I've been thinking about it and I think I'm going to buy a Hisense Sero Pro instead of getting a used Nexus 7. I drove 50 minutes today to buy it from someone on Craigslist, but he didn't show and wasn't answering calls or texts by the time I got there. Waste of time.. So I called up my local Walmart and asked if they had the Sero Pro. Turns out they do! So I'm going to go sometime tonight and check it out. I've been reading and hearing good things about them, especially that it's like a Nexus 7 that isn't a Nexus 7. It's 149.99 new, has dual cameras, micro sd card expansion, mini-hdmi out, and specs almost the same as the Nexus 7. The only thing is that it has a 4,000 mAh battery... so a little less battery life. But I just bought a cheap 64 GB micro sd card on eBay and I want to try it out on this! If anyone is interested, I'll post a bit of what I think if I end up getting it tonight or tomorrow.
Also, people have already rooted this, but I don't know if I'll need to just yet... maybe I'll try it if I desperately need to sideload some apps. Otherwise, I think I'm going to leave it as stock if I get it.

I picked up the Hisense Sero Pro yesterday and so far I am very happy. It is leaps and bounds faster than my old tablet. I don't have a nexus 7 so can't test them together but all my benchmarks have been spot on with the nexus scores online. Too early to tell you about reliability but it feels solid enough, As long as I get a year out of it I will be extremely happy with this purchase. I thought about importing something but didn't want to deal with any issues. As long as Walmart carries these you can swap them out if they break.
