I'd definitely buy it if I were living in EU or the US. In my country it's too hard to import cell phones from outside individually.

Wow sounds impressive. Don't it'll get produced though.

Day 1, raised to $1,973,713 already :S
I hope it supports some cool features like
Totally open source hardware drivers
Booting from External SD

Important does it come with the dock? If not how much does it cost?

The 4.5 inches kills it for me, after the note 2 every phone under 5-inch seems so small...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Sounds promising but 30mil goal sounds like a lot not sure they will hit the mark

Sounds like an amazing phone!
Too bad they chose such a small screen.

4.5 isnt exactly small, but 4.7 would be nicer...

5.5 even better.

Well it's still under a year away, so specs are probably not final, + I honestly think 4gb of ram would be probably be the most during that time. The processer, as specified, would be one of the strongest during that time. The camera is only 8 megapixel with low light. The resolution is sadly only 720p (over 300ppi atleast) but the screen is scratch resistant, or so the video says.

I would have bought two last night, but I held my missus s3 for five minutes, thought about my life, my needs for May '14, looked back at how tiny, tiny her screen is and remembered how even smaller the Edge is, and finally thought, no chance.
Def. Worth more than the $600 /£400 price tag available yesterday - great fleabay item, if I hadn't just bought a pool table I'd have made the investment.

You guys get it wrong. This is not yet another Android smartphone competitor.
This is an Ubuntu PC that also runs Android.
I'm sure everything will be open source, unlike Samsung and HTC. So I think it'll be fully compatible with CyanogenMod.

I've taken a punt on it - not convinced they will meet their $32million target but they will get close. I know 14 may is a long way away but it will probably beat htc and Samsung to the market.
Wouldn't be surprised if its htc they have lined up to make it for them.
Htc did a good job on the x1 for sony - then put it in a different package and called it a touch pro. Same with google nexus and the desire.
Wouldn't be surprised if the ubuntu edge is just next years flagship htc in different clothing.

I got in at $675 for the Ubuntu Edge. I'd love it if HTC makes it, as I now have the HTC One as my daily driver and couldn't be happier.

Just because I think something doesn't make it right. And just because someone else thinks something else on the same issue does not make them wrong. These are known as "opinions" and everyone is entitled to their own. You need to respect other's opinion, bashing it down with rhetorical posts is not the way to go.

There are 5 threads on the front page with little to nothing to do with the Note 2. Let's talk about these in the thread dedicated to other devices:

Wow, with the note being such a success I wonder if in the further all phones will be 5.3 inches and future 'tablet/phone' hybrid devices will be 7 inches?
Even now some people say I'm ridiculous carrying such a big phone but I see this 'big' phone being looked at as 'too small' in a few years??? Though I don't think they will make phones with screens bigger than 7 inches considering 7 inches is already a 'mini' tablet's size.
Either ways I also hope they don't release a Note 2 so soon, just bought my note in February, would hate for it to be 'old' or 'outdated' in less than a year, I feel like past mid 2013 would be the perfect time or maybe end of 2013 in December.

That's actually very interesting because they pumped a lot od money to manufacture and promote Galaxy Note which was - let's be honest - an experimental device. With 7 millions sold - and people getting excited about it everyday and buying more and more - i guess Note 2 is a matter of time.
But i have to agree - not yet. It's still too early to release Note 2.
The note is an amazing device, everyone that sees mine loves it even if it is a bit big for some. I normally get itchy feet around the six month mark of having a phone, thinking I want a new one, but haven't thought about getting a new phone at all. Its amazing how badly the dell streak did compared to the note. Probably because of dells lack of advertising, but also I guess all the right things just came together with the note and has captured peoples imagination, the hd amoled screen, the s-pen the dual core great camera, great gps it just does everything well. Never had a phone I enjoy using so much!!

I'm sort of doubting that 7" will become a phone standard. The Note is already approaching the upper limit of what many people can reasonably hold and fit in normal pockets. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tablets come with a mic and speaker to be used as a phone though.

I tried to carry Galaxy Tab 7.7 (it support normal phone, I can call and sms), it was too big for me. Ideal is 5.0 - 6.3.
6 inches would be an ideal replacement for a tablet and phone to me. Galaxy Note 5.3 sometimes feels small for internet or drawing.
Yeah I hope note 2 has a bigger screen. 6 would be good

Yea now thinking about it again I doubt 7 inch phones but 6.5 inch is still possible. Only one thing that gets in the way, when we use the note to talk...... now with the note even though some people are like its so wired, I think its just fine as its just right from my ears down to my mouth, the length of the phone is exactly right and its not too wide that to covers the entire of my face on the side, so bigger screen mean its going to be longer/wider, I can't say it will look wierd until I see it being used but this is definetly a concern.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda priemium
No matter what, the Note 2 has to be pocketable.
That totally rules out 7".
I could maybe see 5.8, if they somehow find a way to make bezelless phones. Which completely hasn't happened yet. I already can't really tie my shoes when it's in the front pocket of a couple of my pants. It's pretty close to borderline for me.

I think we should be reasonable here.
I think if anyone who wants Note 2 to be bigger than 5.8" should really consider getting a tablet and phone separately.
I wouldnt mind a 5.8" personally but anything bigger will be really hard to use as a phone.
Also I really want a 16:10 ratio screen res like the current Note.
Perhaps 1920x1200
Im all about bigger screens but anything bigger than the Note would be simply too big for me. Still im pretty sure they could manage to give us 5,5" screen without increasing the device's dimensions. That would be nice.

OK maybe if the cut off the buttons and just have one small (but big enough for the average thumb size) home button and removed the Samsung logo ontop of the phone and made the screen wider removing the little space on the sides, it could happen, also hope that in future Notes, speakers are on the bottom or sides of the phone and not the back rely dumb to have it there

I read from the papers before that the Note is patterned after the S2... so the Note 2 for the S3... so for you to get the Note 3, the S4 needs to be release first...
So wait next year when the S4 will be released and from there, the GN3 will come after...
if a note 3 will come i am surely gonna buy it

I'm dreaming of a note3 2ghz quad core, 2 gig of ram or more , 32gig internal memory 64gig sd slot and a whopping 5.5 or more edge to edge 1080p full hd screen with a massive 450 or so pixels per inch. Oh and drop the bloody hardware button and have onscreen home, back and menu keys like on the nexus. And get rid of touchwiz, who needs that when stock android looks so good. What a lovely dream, hope I'm not dreaming of the note 4 though, don't wanna wait that long.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
Of course there will be a GN3, and Samsung would already be working on it. They've opened up a whole new category that sold well in the first generation and will be looking to replicate and grow that success. Even if GN2 doesn't sell well they are highly unlikely to allow the competition take over. Remember phones don't last forever, GN1 users will be looking to upgrade sooner or later and I'm sure Samsung will want those users.

GN3 will be coming next year in September or October with the unbreakable Super Amoled HD+. The screen size will be 5.8 or 6 inches with a nobezel frame (the whole size will remain almost the same.) The resolution will be 1080p. The case will be made of ceramic: unibody.
The battery will be upgraded so the size remains almost the same but the capacity will be much increased. Also the wireless charging will come with it.
For a better battery life, Samsung will use a sidekick processor that consumes the power very little--almost none-- but is awake all the time to manage the six senses of the phone. This is the innovation. GS4 will use this technology.
The main processor will take care of the heavy stuffs while the phone is active. With the improved battery, the sidekick processor, the simplified integrated modem chip, and more power efficient Exynos 5 processor, GN3 will go a week easily for a charge (fyi, GS3 can last about 2 days if you use it casually.)
So I skip GN2. My next one will be GN3.
You can mark this post.

Note 2....Don't see it getting any better than this!

Ok folks.....so i just got my Note 2 yesterday. Last night i'm messing around with it and i then have this thought. Where the hell does Samsung go from here? I mean i am so pleased with this phone....but then in the back of my mind i think "Wait a sec....they are gonna come out with ANOTHER one of these next year!" And me being the tech nerd that i am i will likely get it. But seriously....WHAT else can they do? lol I bought my first Note at the beginning of the year.....so that's 2 $700+ smartphones in one year. A little ridiculous to some i'm sure.....but next year when this time rolls around Samsung is going to have to do something TRULY revolutionary to get me to switch! So what do you guys think? I LOVE this phone....just can't see it getting much better. Discuss......:good:
Better processor. Better battery. Better camera. Improved design and materials.

This device may look fantastic today and i'm sure it is which is why i'm also planning on getting one as soon as possible.
However, as i upgrade every two years and not every year due to contracts new better devices released inbetween is not really a issue. There will always be better devices released, you just have to accept that fact. I'm sure Samsung has many cards up it's sleeve with new things they plan on implement in future versions of this and their other devices. Things like user experience, interface, artificial intelligence, better camera, software, input, raw power and interaction with external products. The whole experience can evolve so much more than compared to what it looks like today but these things needs time to grow slowly into what they will become.

Well they probably gonna come out eith a better processor ( exynos 5250 I believe its called based on the new A15 architecture), I know the note 2 is the fastest thing out right now but when that new exynos comes out next year, itll make this note feel like turtle speed. Samsung is gonna kill it. But I agree, yhis phone is so perfect that Im not sure what else we really need. Higher res screen and stuff like that probably. Note 2 is AWESOME!

I guess the Note III will offer the following specifications:
1. Quadcore Exynos 5250 @ 2 - 2.5 Ghz
2. 2 GB RAM
3. A 5.8-6 inch display, higher resolution
4. Multiband-LTE as standard in the GT-N7200 (i.e. the base model N7200 is an LTE device - no more 3G only) - support for US LTE together with EU LTE would be perfect
5. VoLTE
6. A 12 MP-camera, improved sensor and 1080p video recording
7. 32 and 64 GB onboard memory + microSDXC slot
8. Android 4.2(?) Key Lime Pie or 5.0 (assuming that 4.2 arrives later this month or in November and 5.0 lands in June 2013)
9. A premium body similar to this Note II concept: Note II mockup
10. Bluetooth S-Pen as standard
11. Further improved S-Pen feature set
12. Improved window mode features
Sure. For me also. It's the best ever. And I'll not shift easly.

For 1 I'd like to see the Snapdragon S4 Pro (quad-core) only because it's actually a fusion of A9 and A15 architecture (and smaller transistor size = less power leak = less heat and power use) which means better performance. Also, I'd like a much better GPU... what don't these manufacturers understand? Phones are beginning to be like PCs the bottleneck is ALWAYS the GPU nowadays... sure we have quad-core CPUs in Android phones, but all the iDevices have GPUs with almost double the performance, c'mon!

Cores alone do not a processor make.
The Exynos 5 Dual-core might turn out to be faster than the Exynos 4 Quad.
It has all to do with the architecture, design layout and fabrication process.
Two no-brainer upgrades for next year's model:
[1] 1080p screen
[2] Power-efficient CPU & SOC (low-power).
Screen size of 5.5" is good, no need to go bigger. CPU can be dual or quad core, as long as it has a newer architecture with low-power consumption.
I cant do more than 5.5 inch screen honestly. Anything bigger will be in the realm of tablets.

I had a look at the GN2 and I really like it for me it is the best phone on the market right now. But I will not buy it yet because I do not feel that it is so much better than my GN1.
Think that they could go even bigger and maybe get rid of more Bazel I also think that they can do so much more around multi tasking - I mean the real deal like windows. They should also marry a bigger screen to a higher Res. It would make it awesome to look at.
I also think putting in something like Pureview would not hurt.
Its not all sweetness & light..
The horrid back ground hiss that's on the S3 radio is still present here - Come on Samsung it's FM radio & it's horrid.
I get a loud crackle when moving tracks with the latest Poweramp...
They can fit a 6" screen into the current 5'5 Galaxy note size right now. It would have to be glass to glass touchscreen with no bezel (maybe some at the bottom for the buttons)
So the people complaining that the 6" phone would be too big, look at the galaxy note 1 vs galaxy 2..the screen got bigger but the overall size got slimmer

And that will be the extent of it.
Because you can make the device taller, but you can't make it wider. Even if you need two hands to use the device properly, the width has to be small enough to be held in one hand.
That is where the Note II shines.
It is the biggest phone out there right now, but people can still hold it in one hand.
I don't like screens where they use a chunk of it for on-screen buttons and use that portion as part of the screen measurement.

Note 2... Padphone 2... FIGHT!

Okay I'll edit this later with all the known stats but for now please help me decide which is should blow my load on, the note 2 or the padphone 2.
In brief
amoled vs IPS
5,5 vs 4,7 + 10.1
Exynos vs S4
Polycarbonate (plastic) vs something better
16gb+SD vs 16gb (both may do bigger sometime circa 2113.)
Buy now vs Buy Dec (knowing Asus buy April or buy a Lemon)
Help please, I little stopped myself buying the note today because of how much better the padphone 2 looks to the PDP1.

Galaxy Note its an unique device.. You can not compare it to anything.. And everything depends on your needs and likes... I can not take anything less than 5.3" Wich its my note 1(waiting for my note 2 to arrive) specs wise the note 2 its the best device to date out there and even if later someone releases something better/faster in processor terms still can not match the 5.55" RGB super Amoled screen

Because this is the only Phablet out there, and it has some cons such as: old CPU and GPU (if comparing to Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU), no support from CM (yes, this is a deal breaker for me!), and I personally don't really like SAMOLED screens because of low brightness and bad whites, also they burn in, camera is also not the best out there today (look at the PadFone 2).
The only pros I see for this device is: huge screen, huge battery, sd slot, replaceable battery and Samsung's AWESOME features (S Pen, Popup Note, Popup Play (I know the last two wont work with CM, but they are still there with TW roms, and I can always switch ))
So for now, I don't know what to choose
If the Note II will have CM support (ahm ahm Exynos documentation), I will definitely get it

Why do you believe that PadFone 2 camera is better?? Because it is just 13mpix?
Best camera I ever see - it is Nokia N82 with 5mpix.

The reason why I left off camera details is we've not got enough to compare. Everyone knows megapixels are primarily a marketing tool.

Its very fast. Also, its a very new Sony camera, what could be bad? :cyclops:

I don't think that PadFone 2 have all this great samsung camera tweaks. I really like burst shot, best faces, slow motion and other samsung features.
If I wanted to actually carry a phone and a tablet I would buy a seperate phone and tablet not a padfone with a crappy half tablet. The note 2 serves people that DON'T want to carry around a tablet to satisfy their daily media-consumption needs

Half tablet?
It'll have a decent screen, its lighter than an iPad 3 (not fair as the screen is far superior), excellent performance, good battery, probably decent camera.
What's half about that? And you wouldn't have to take it everywhere...

If you look at Asus record as far as android devices are concerned, there are many negative things to say. I had a TF101 and it was crap and looking at all the issues people keep having with their Asus android devices a miracle will have to happen for the padphone to work properly. I have had a 7.7 galaxy tab for a while now and i can count on the fingers of one hand how many times a program has FCed on it. Asus will probably paper release the Padfone 3 six months after the 2 just like they did with the Padfone 1. ..

My Verizon Nexus has burn in on the corners where the Waze icons live. It's not bad, I can't get a good photo of it, but they are there, and quite noticeable when the screen has a darker color across them.

Older / newer (processor term) doesn't mean anything.. Those are 2 different technologies.. It's like comparing the newer AMD against the "older" core i7 xtreme just plain bull****. Note wouldn't be any faster or smoother with snap dragon s4.. The gpu keeps the name but it has lots of improvements over older versions.. And to be honest even with my N7000 I can play any game in the play store...
About cm support.. Tw at this stage has no match feature/smoothness wise.. Why would I flash a very basic flat android when I have a better launcher made by samsung? (Btw if you like aosp looks just install nova /apex)
Camera its not better for mega pixels but the lense and my note does take greate pictures... And I'm not a professional photographer and If I were, I wouldn't use a phone to take pictures so that's just plain dumb.
SAMOLED its great.. I've owned s3, gnexus note 1, no problem so far.. And note 2 has RGB matrix so the little things that bothers me from pentile are now gone.. Bad whites? What do you do with whites? Everyone avoid whites.. Battery raper color...
Low brightness.. Wonder if you spend most of your time under the sun because that's the only condition in which you would need higher brightness and even so my Amoled devices have done well under sunny days..
You are trying to convince yourself of getting anything else but you are not looking at it in the right way... Note its an unique device.. Until now no matter what technology its out there nothing could match note 1 not even s3 or HTC one X why? ... Plain simple massive 5.3" screen/unique features only note 2 could take the crown and so will note 3...
With note devices just 2 things can happen or you hate it because of the size and would never get 1 or you completely love it and would never switch to anything smaller... Thing its that you gotta own the devices for some weeks to figure out that
Cheers

any similar device to n4 ?

I just bought a nexus 4 for my dad and tried it and really liked it. Only thing I cant live without is the lack of microsd slot. Is there a similar device to the nexus 4 with a micro sd slot?

For the same price point? Highly unlikely.
For the same hardware? Here are some phones that feature the same specs as the Nexus 4.

(Well they don't have expandable memory but with the amount of space embedded in the logic board, it should suffice.)
For the latest software updates? Stick with the Nexus 4 or any Nexus device except for the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
You could wait and see if the next Nexus phone will have expandable memory. Google will hold it's annual I/O event this May to announce their new Nexus devices. A new smartphone will come out before the year of this year for sure. So you can wait or camp out with the Nexus 4 for now.

Nexus devices will be announced at Google I/O but there will be no Nexus phone. Nexus phones tend to come out in the fall/winter months. If anything we'll see the supposed X Phone if we do see a phone.

First of all, camera on the Nexus 4 sucks balls, the one in the HTC will eat it up for brunch. Second, not every camera is the same to another camera and not every pixel is the same to another pixel.
4mp was normal for professional flagship dslrs costing thousands of dollars not so long ago. canon 1d for instance. even newer flagship models have traditionally lower numbers, lower than entry level plastic models, nikons d3 & d3s for instance. my d700 has 12. now these cameras have massive sensors compared to whats in a cellphone. its really really weird they go higher than 2mp, or at max 4 wioth these flea sized things. and you know why they do it, because the buying crowd loves high numbers. what htc is doing is not only sane, it will give them high quality pictures. unfortunately they piss away the lead by distorting android a minute later. :-/
i just hope google learn from it so that next nexus will get 4mp and no more.

Yep. You're right. But I think since the I/O event is going to be earlier this year, the devices will possibly come out earlier as well. We probably will get Key Lime Pie a few weeks after the announcement in May.

4mp is more than enough for most people unless you're taking photos for poster size prints...
Also, 4mp in the HTC One is much higher quality than most cameras, since the individual sensors are larger and capture more light, resulting in less noisy images. More pixels does not equal better camera.
See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2415581,00.asp
The Nokia Lumia 920 has a excellent camera IMO. It's auto-focus is quick as a fox. The pictures looks amazing. I wish we had that in the N4.

Within the price range, comparable phones are:
- Xiaomi MI2
- Huawei Honor 2
(awesome features but only released in China for now)
- Samsung S2 T-Mobile version from Wallmart
(slower CPU and lower-res screen but better camera, SD slot, CM..)
