Nexus 4 or Moto X - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my att Note 2 is broken. I know that Moto X will be a google phone and it is coming out soon. should I wait to just get the nexus 4?

N4 bro. Moto x seems to have specs downgraded compared to n4 but I think you should wait for the official announcement.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

For now, the only specs "downgraded" seems to be the CPU (quad-core > dual-core).
Anyway, first let's see the presentation on the 1th of august

Since you're comparing with yet unreleased phones, you might as well include the nexus 5 with it's rumoured specs in the comparison..

There are no rumored specs for the N5. There are wishful specs. The Moto X has real specs that have been released by people using the phone and is coming out in a few weeks.

What is downgraded? The CPU tests seem to show some pretty amazing numbers considering what CPU it is using. The Moto X will also have LTE, a better camera, and better battery life. If they sell it for $300-$400, it will be hard to recommend the N4 anymore.

I believe the rumor is it's going to be undercutting the Nexus 4 at under $265 even... and even though it's a dualcore it apparently outperforms the N4's quadcore...
So yeah OP, I think the MotoX is probably the better choice. But let's wait for an official announcement before making rash decisions ;P

I've read this is a pretty custom CPU that is utilizing cores in a different way. Having more cores doesn't make it faster. Apparently the Moto X has chips that offload some of the processing power (like for voice). So I would expect the experience to be more smooth than the N4.

until there is an official announcement it's all rumors, be it nexus 5, moto x or whatever. Asking moto X or nexus 4 is a stupid question, you don't know how the phone performs, you don't know the exact hardware (forget the leaks and rumors here), you don't know what features and capabillities it will pack. all you know is those few things seen in that Rogers ad, the always listening google now and camera gesture. So, until the official announcement on August 1st, comparing an older phone (nexus 4 in this case) with rumors, leaks and what not devices is plain silly. Cheers

wait my friend, HTC one mAXX , Galaxy note 3, Galaxy s4 with snapdragon 800, lg optimus g2, sony xperia Z ultra.
patience

Yeah, I would wait just a few weeks to see the official specs on the Moto X before buying any phone, TBH.
Personally, I'm incredibly happy with my Nexus 4 and could care less about any other phone right now... Unless something comes out that is priced so low with insane specs... Then I'd get it as a backup phone and switch between it and my Nexus 4 whenever the mood strikes me but I'm not giving up my Nexus 4 just yet. I love the little thing!

We already know the Moto X has a better camera and LTE. In my mind, that is all I need to jump ship from the N4 considering it appears to be a mostly stock experience.

I think that's a safe bet... but if the rumors that the Moto X will be on Verizon are true I'm sure that version won't have an unlockable bootloader... at least not officially.

Is it going to be GSM? All the Motorola devices are Verizon only.

I hope google to continue support future version of android for nexus s. Most new devices are dual core or quad cores, with > 1G ram.. I dont think the new androids should only target for a high ended hardware spec. The NS is still a good "low end" demo device.
Its not really a good low end device spec wise anymore either.
These mobile devices are on what I think Anand refers to as hyper Moore's law. Which basically means the improvements on the mobile SoC are taking place a really rapid rate at this time. The difference between what a current gen chip and a two year old chip can do is huge
We are just now approaching the point where the chips are truly getting really powerful and aren't going to need to be leapfrogged by the next chip 6 months down the road. Example is the s4 pro and the next gen arm15 cores. Those chips are so powerful that they will be able to cut it for years no problem. Just how desktops have been for a couple of years.
The verge has a little piece up now on a HTC device with a 5 inch 1080p 440ppi display
There is a big deal from the software. Running stock jelly bean on the Galaxy Nexus was faster than touchwiz from S3. Single core iPhone4 and Lumia is pretty smooth to me (for the most part), taking OS differences aside.
That HTC device has been known for a while, (thats what you get for reading the verge), but I'm more interested inthe Oppo Find 5. Although I have doubt the later will be cyanogenmod supported. As for HTC, 1080p with Sense is still Sense, and you lose your warrenty rooting it and time too. Otherwize I would like a 1080p device. Though the LG Optimus G has S4 Pro and 13mp camera matches the Oppo Find 5 so its less compelling now.
With that aside I wouldn't mind a non-oversized phone with Nexus freedom. I'm looking at the Blaze by T-Mobile just getting CM10, but doesn't look like its a popular phone among devs, being Qualcomm S3 and all. I'm looking at the S3 mini too, though the form factor is ideal, it looks like a lazy attempt for Samsung to milk off their S3 popularity, for its expected retail price I'd rather get a Galaxy Nexus.
Sent from SGH-T959
The HTC device has been rumored forever. There where not any demo's / announcements prior to it being shown yesterday in Japan.
Its kind of a lackluster though, 16gb, non-removable battery, 8mp, no-microsd, and as I mentioned, Sense, process of unlocking and rooting...
Aside from the 1080p, I think phones like the Note2 and Optimus G has more features to offer. I'm still waiting to see a press release of the Oppo phone to see if all the specs are true though. Again, I'm bias.
Hopefully the multiple nexus rumours are true and the HTC one is built with the j butterfly blueprint. Stock android on that would be freaking awesome. I am doubtful though.

I'm trying not to think about an upgrade.
I've really enjoyed every update, except 4.0.4 giving me a weird power button issue that a clean install and 4.1.1 fixed.
I literally just flashed 4.1.2 on, and AGAIN it feels like my phone is a bit faster and snappier.
I'm going to treat my Nexus S like my G1....keep updating until it until it grinds to a halt.
Before that happen, I think your power button would stop working first.

[Q] Nexus 5?

Hopefully this is an ok location for this topic. I know previously there were rumors about the possibility of multiple nexus smartphones. Following the 10/29 announcement of the 5, 7, and 10, is this all we should expect? Or is a HTC Nexus 5 based on the Butterfly still something that coudl happen
No. If there was going to be a Nexus 5, it would have been announced with the other devices.

They typically release a new Nexus phone every 9-12 months.
10" tablet by samsung
7" tablet by asus
4.7" smartphone by LG
apparently there are supposed to be 5 nexus devices this year.. one of them being HTC based on the butterfly a 5-5.5inch 'phablet' ... and another device by motorola i think
i doubt the last 2 are gonna make an appearance this year
In that Verge video, they did say other manufacturers also tried out to be the company making the Nexus 4, so maybe those prototypes that other companies sent in might have been considered potentially released along with the LG one, but Google decided to only go with one of them.
My gut says if you want a 5" phone, you'll have to snag a Note II and put a custom ROM on it.

IIRC the rumors of 5 Nexii or so came before IO 2012. So:
1. Nexus 7
2. Nexus 4
3 Nexus 10
4. Nexus Q (even though it wasn't released for long, the rumors said 5 before it didn't do well I believe)
5. 3G Nexus 7? Who knows-- maybe a fifth was cut or the rumors were just rumors.

It could be
A) An explanation of the direction Motorola will be going with their brand [Very likely]
or
B) Based on the image with the towels, they will announce patterns as a new way to customize your Moto X. Did you want a floral pattern for your back cover? Well.....come Feb 25, YOU CAN! (Not very likely......or maybe :silly
Well, they just got bought by Lenovo... it's normal a press conference to tell public the company perspectives...
hope they didnt change too much on Moto x lines
i mean that will always have fast update, motorola logo, exclusive apps and awesome design
A new watch would be nice. Still waiting for someone to release the must have watch.
I'd rather they announce further support for the Moto X and introduce new features. Some reassurance the design philosophies of the Moto X won't be abandoned for rejoining the spec wars. The guy above me who suggested a higher resolution should be ashamed of himself.

Yes I suspect its this as well.
The deal probably isn't completely finalized yet; i mean this just happened like a week ago. How did they already figure what they gonna do with Motorola. I am not a business person but it just seems kinda too early for that kind of event. My guess would be that they ll talk little bit about lenovo and then announce some new product. Hopefully Moto x 2

Brand new Moto G (Gen 1) came with 4.4.4!

Just got my Moto G a couple of days ago from Virgin in Canada, opened the box and booted it up and it was running 4.4.4 out of box. Was cool to see that
Kind of excited for the upcoming Android L release. Hopefully we'll get it on all devices.
Everyone says this device wont get L, but it is pretty sure it will get it... So, just be patient!! One of the funniest things I've read about this subject is that this phone won't get L because of its 4.5" screen.. thats ridiculous! since Nexus 4 is getting L and it has 4.6" screen!

Agreed. Not only that but it's less than a year old still. I'd be surprised if a phone made by a Google company didn't receive the flagship update, especially when they have a GPE version of it (one of two phones even on the GPE program currently) and especially when the launch model is still only 11 months old.
