(Q) changing imei on the phone - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I am from Greece and I am studying at turkey. The problem is that turkey wants to register the phone imei with my passport in order to work with their companies.
I have registered last year my last phone I had, the xperia mini st15i with its imei and now that I am in vacation in greece I took the nexus 4.
The things I want to ask is that can I change the imei of this phone?
If I change will the phone has any problems? And my last question for someone that is from Turkey or if someone knows, if I put the xperia's imei in this phone will it work with the turkeys network?
I really need help with that guys, I hope there will be a solution. Thanks a lot for the community help you are providing

changing IMEI is illegal in most (if not all) countries.
you won't find any advice or help about such things here on xda.

In my country is not illegal. I just need answer for my questions, I don't want help fir changing it

Might not be illegal (which in itself is dodgy as hell) in your country but as it is almost everywhere else in the world it's not allowed on here...

I know my friend, I will not change it.
Let's take it otherwise, I am just curious and have some questions. I'm nor telling that I will change it.
Does anyone knows answers for my questions so I can give away my curiosity?

No, and I've reported this thread to be closed as it's banned on here...

Thread Closed, any discussion regrading the changing of your imei is strictly against XDA rules, now may i recomend that you don't ask this question on XDA again please.
Thanks

Using US nexus 7 internationally

I purchased a nexus 7 as a gift for a family member that lives overseas. Is there anything that will be affected in terms of updates and or general usage aside from the charger? I don't want to give them a headache if I can avoid it, so any info would be a big help before sending it. If there is anything I should know or do in preparation for them I would much appreciate any info, Thanks!

And. Been in Europe.
So far so good....
So is there no change in the software at all? I apologize I am new to anything nexus as I am mainly familiar with Samsung stuff. I know for instance the galaxy note 10.1 has ics in usa officially and Germany already has Jellybean. are updates like that likely to be the same?
Thank you for the reply!

As far as I know,
I'm going to Asia next few months ( in this case, we use Asia for example) and I called Google regarding my concerns. What I know is that the
GPS and navigation will definitely work.
The play store seem like only the app will work, Movie/music/TVshow/ magazine will not work if I did not remember anything wrong.
Android updates for the Nexus 7 will be continued I think. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks.
Correct.I have no book here...
OTA updates work everywhere, the only thing that changes are the play store offerings
Awesome. Thank you all for the information, I appreciate the help.

Can anyone verify if the Wi-Fi will work on channels 12 and 13? I know some US devices don't like my Sony Xperia.

Help! Anyone in Los Angeles area with a Nexus 4 (16gb) Not on T-Mobile

First off, not sure if this is in the right section but if its not please mods feel free to move. Also if this in anyway violates forum rules please remove.
With that said, as the title implies I need help from someone that fits the description of the title. Why? Long story, but I'll try summarizing it.
I bought a use nexus, everything works and its in perfect condition. Except that its blocked from T-Mobile. I hadn't notice this as I just recently tried activating it with them. before that I was with AT&T and everything worked perfectly. So what do I need? I would like to find someone who is willing to swap phones (same model). That only needs it for AT&T (or straight talk, etc). Like stated, phone is in perfect condition except a small scratch near the sim slot, Unlock boot loader, running Carbon ( I could put it back to stock). So please if you're willing to help me out PM me and we could work something out. Thanks.

If its blocked from T-Mobile it was stolen and the IMEI was blacklisted. Irreversible, unless you want to illegally change the IMEI
Google is your friend there

Nice information. So is there anyway to check a used phone if it is in any blacklist?
What do mean "it's blocked by Tmobile?"
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
As in bad IMEI number, up till yesterday I had no idea T-Mobile blocked phones. My guess is that the guy who sold it to me was doing fraud, report it lost so he could get another one. Reason being is that a few days later he hit me up asking me if I wanted another one of course I had no need for it so I just disregard his message...
Anyhow, if anyone is willing to do an swap. Let me know and we could work something out.
It works perfectly for at&t or any other carrier except T-Mobile :/

My guess is no, unless you call T-Mobile and ask em about the IMEI number. So if you're planning on purchasing a use T-Mobile phone call first!

Stolen/fraud and ATT will likely block the phone soon since they started sharing their blacklist database last year.
I feel for you. I also appreciate the full disclosure. But, I think that you're most likely stuck with it. After all this is a forum full of nexus owners so you'd be hard pressed to get a someone to even swap their nexus that's on the network of their choosing for one with a questionable esn. Perhaps if you sweetened the pot(throw in some $) you'd have better luck.
With that out the way... why didn't you demand a refund from the seller? Or at least swapped for the phone he text to try to sell you? Did you even tell the seller about the fact you couldn't activate the phone?

[Q] Killing note 3 ??

Is there any way i can kill the phone so i can return it with warranty ??
Reported. Not a good idea to discuss illegal activities on this forum.

Thread Closed and if you want to fraud your Carrier do it else where.... Or just be honest and sell your device on Swappa and then get one to your liking. But XDA is not the place for you topic.
Thread Cleaned and Closed, Thank You.

Changing IMEI

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've been on XDA.
Anyways, I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy Note 4 (T-Mobile). I purchased it from a craigslist seller, and figured everything was okay after I put my SIM card in it and everything was working fine. After a few days of service with MetroPCS, it suddenly stopped working. I called Metro and they couldn't figure out the problem after 3 days. I then called T-Mobile since thats where the phone originally came from and they proceeded to tell me that the phone has been blacklisted due to nonpayment from the previous owner.
So I'm basically screwed now. I have a $600 phone that's nothing but a paperweight.
I've been in this community for years now but I have no idea what I'm about to do.
So basically my question is, if I root my phone and change my imei number to a valid one, would I be okay? Would I be able to register it under the network?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
