[Q] Is it possible to create full partition backups with stock recovery? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've just joined. A very basic question - is it possible to create full partition backups without a custom recovery? The only reason I'm running TWRP (2.6) at the moment is to be able to create full backups. I understand stock recovery doesn't allow that?
Thanks

Online nandroid backup or something doesn't need a custom recovery.

question about cwm recovery

Hi all. Just wondering, I just made a backup via cwm recovery. So do I have to flash the original main Rom first then flash the backup or I do not need to flash the main Rom at all? Thanks in advance!
simply go in recovery to backup/restore, select restore and you are set. CWM backs up everything including rom boot sdext etc

[SOLVED]a quick rom question...

I have rooted and I have twrp installed. I'm planking on installing some cm7 or cm9 ROM. I'm going to backup, wipe and all of that good stuff. My question is, if I flash back to stock, can I recover all of my apps from the backup?
what do you mean with "flash back to stock" ?
hopefully not flashing the original amazon rom !!!
you will loose fff, twrp and root - also some guys bricked it doing this
if you want to flash a stock rom i would recommend one of the prerooted stock roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22393194&postcount=20
would backup your current stock rom, so you can restore it like it was including all apps (select the propper tags in twrp - tap all if you'r not shure)
im asking if i go back to stock, can i restore my apps and such. if thats not safely possible, can i transfer my backed up apps to cyanogenmod?
i don't know a way with twrp
for this is titanium backup from the market - you can save and restore apps as you like:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rZXJhbWlkYXMuVGl0YW5pdW1CYWNrdXAiXQ..
so i cant transfer apps from my current stock to cm?
that's what titanium backup is supposed to do
ohh ok. thanks!!
glad to help ...

CWM not backing up system.img

I wanted to flash a custom ROM and decided to do a nandroid backup first. Every time i did one it did not contain the system.img file which means that the stock ROM wasn't backed up. It only backed up recovery and boot. I have the official CWM from clockwordmod.com.
Please help.
BTW. I know that i can use the stock system image from google, but it's much easier to just recover a nandroid backup.

What version of CWM are you running?

[Q] Online Nandroid Backup and pre rooted ROMs

Well, I really appreciate the pre rooted ROMS for the i9505 and everything is working good, even OTA and official status. :good:
As flashing a custom recovery makes it unofficial (so no OTA), the only way I've found in order to make a full nandroid backup is using the Online Nandroid Backup app from the Google Play Store. I obtained a CWM backup file that I stored on my external SD card.
Now, in order to make a full nandroid restore of my previous backup (not only apps but the whole system), I have to flash again a custom recovery. Sadly, when doing this, I have to reflash again the stock recovery, to use Triangle Away and to make a full wipe for having official status and OTA back again :crying:
I wonder if there is another way to restore my full nandroid bakcup without using a custom recovery or without affecting the flash counter/official status ?
Thanks !

How to backup important everything?

I'd like to know if it's possible to backup all my partitions including my EFS partition before I start hacking away at the phone?
I found the thread about it but it says to flash it via custom recovery, but in order to get that custom recovery, I have to use AutoRec, which modifies the very partitions I'm trying to preserve, so I'm a bit of a dilemma here.
I'm just looking for a way to make sure I don't completely brick the phone and in the same time have a 'clean-slate' button at my disposal which restores stock everything, including partitions, roms, recoveries and any other modification.
Cheers.
There is no way to backup entire partitions without root but you can backup photos/music you would need a recovery to backup these partitions or a rooted adb but recovery is the best and easiest way
