Kernel Links needed - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone post the links to some of the alternate kernels that get mentioned in the Dev section? They are harder to find then hen's teeth! Specifically, Vanquishkitties, arrrghhh's kernel and bytecode's kernel. Any others will also be appreciated. Just be sure they are for the XT907. I accidently flashed an XT926 kernel which allowed my phone to boot just fine but I had no touch screen controls! Seemed like it was hours (but actually only a few minutes) before I could manage to get it into the bootloader and then into recovery. I really don't want to relive that little thrill!

So it's normal for your PC to report you having an XT926 plugged in instead of an XT907 when using this kernel. I thought I was screwed!

I believe the kernel was made for the XT926, but since the XT907 uses the same kernel it would be normal to have it read as an XT926

CM7?

Is it possible this will be ported to the DroidX? I will only have mine for a little longer but was still curious.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I believe CM7 is a full rom, as in not unless the bootloader is defeated. So, id say, possible, but thats if they can figure out how to load kernels.
the milestone has a lock bootloader and it just recently got cm6 so hopefully someone can port it over to the x
There's been talk of CM coming to the X ever since the X came out. It hasn't happened yet, and chances are it won't happen anytime soon.
Me and another developer are going to work on this. CM7 can't be done until a Moto kernel update but CM6 can be done.

Thanks for the answers, this is why I'm switching back to my HTC Incredible.

That would be sweet (cm7 & bypassing bootloader), this is why my next phone will have an unlocked or already defeated boot loader.

I started porting it a few days ago. Matt's going to be joining me
It likely will not be fully supported by Team Douche (The CyanogenMod team) since the ramdisk can't be edited due to the locked bootloader, but it's still very possible to have CM6 on the DX.

CM7 is based on Gingerbread, in which Gingerbread updates to the 2.6.35 version Linux based kernel. CM6 is Froyo based, which uses the 2.6.32 kernel that we currently have.
To add on to Derek, once Motorola updates our phones to Gingerbread, and gives us the needed .35 kernel, then GB should be posible.

According to Droid Life, kexec is getting ready for a release which could in fact bypass the bootloader and make CM7 possible?

The kexec hack basically allows for piggybacking another kernel onto the stock kernel.. and there has been huge progress made in that arena.
Unfortunately, there are a ton of remaining unsolved issues with this work-around, including:
--Stability.
--Once running another kernel, for drivers to work (including the radio which means 3g and phone functionality), those modules will need to be reverse engineered and ported over to the other kernel...
--etc.
So, while progress is being made... it's more likely that any work done on the X getting "around" the locked bootloader will be used to continue this work on future Moto hardware such as the bionic.. but it's not likely we're going to be seeing full ROMs running on the X for daily use any time soon...

Thanks for asking the question. If you hadn't, I would have
As another n00b question, does Safestrap have to be updated (new version released/installed on the RMaxxHD) when the OTA 4.1 update is released? Or was the update just for use with the Motorola RMaxxHD hardware, etc.? Was thinking of holding on to the install file until the OTA update came out, then deciding where to go from there, but wanted to make sure it wasn't a worthless maneuver if the Safestrap version wouldn't work after the OTA update.
Thanks for everyone's patience as us n00bs get caught up in the fun!
---------- Post added at 03:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
A second n00b question - I noticed there were 2 different versions (3.05.08 and 3.05.12 I think)... Do I just download the newest one? Once installed, will the app update itself like the other apps?
Pretty sure the safestrap will work after the OTA... if not then there will be one devloped for it soon after most likely.
Second questions yes always install the latest (highest number) compatible with your device. Once installed it wont update automatically I don't believe. If you check the safestrap thread and click on install instructions link I believe hashcode has a section "if you have a previous version installed do _____." So if you read that it should answer your question.

[Q] CM 10.2 nightly won't boot after flashing franco r191-JSS

Hello,
I am running CM 10.2 (latest nightly). I flashed the franco kernel r191 for the first time and it bricked the phone. The boot animation won't come up. It gets stuck after the Google logo. I would appreciate if you could help me out. Fortunately, I had a full nandroid backup and was able to recover my phone.
I use the TWRP recovery.
Thanks.
You need to learn what the definition of bricked means.
a bricked phone is worthless and unrecoverable, it makes a great paperweight/door stop. flashing a kernel that wont boot is not bricking a phone, and not close, and there are many ways to recover from a non booting kernel, nandroid restore being one way. you can also just flash a good kernel or your rom to recover.
Thank you for clarifying the definition of brick. I did not know that. Please feel free to chime in regarding my original question. Thank you.

What IS your question? From what I've read, you were able to restore your nandroid, right? Just don't flash that kernel if it messes things up.

According to the author, I am supposed to flash the one that has a JSS tag in the file name. http://franciscofranco.minooch.com/Nexus4/4.3/zips/

no. custom kernels no longer work on cm properly, if at all.thats probably is the reason why franco kernel wont boot. cm changed their base code from aosp to qualcomm a few weeks ago, and that broke the ability to use custom kernels on cm. custom kernels are based on aosp, and qualcomms code breaks stuff because of it.
Thank you so much! Now I understand why.

As said previously CM is the cause, Franco still remains AOSP based, you can try hellscore kernel, Google it, it as a nice reputation for amazing battery life and has a CM version of it.

I don't even like the way that term is used to be honest. To me a soft brick is more or less something that requires a JTAG.
A bootloop or a failed boot just isn't any type of brick at all really as far as I'm concerned.
You really should change the title of the thread. Franco does great work and really does not need to be slandered. After all cm is preventing your device from booting not Franco's kernel. If you want to rant maybe you could change the title to cm bricked my phone

Moto X Kernel Works on Droid Maxx

Probably known around here, but, this Moto X kernel works on Droid Maxx, all phone functions still work too, like active display ect. The dev isn't updating it but the source is available , for those of you like me who build your own.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/kernel-22-12-2013-enhanced-kernel-t2579884
Faux123 has a current kernel also with back ported features, active display works but you need to completely remove the Aon.apk / Aon.odex from the /priv-app folder and re download from the Play Store.
One thing I noticed with either custom kernel is active display is not as "active" , but does still function and for performance I did not have any better or worse functionality as far as gaming / benchmarking / battery life with either custom kernel.
faux's kernel works fine for me.
