[Q] Nook Simple Touch Frozen - Nook Touch General

I had a nook simple touch and decided to root it etc.
I originally used the touchnooter from the following lifehacker post:
lifehacker -/5889158/turn-a-99-nook-into-a-fully-fledged-android-tablet-in-four-easy-steps
It all went fine but then if froze on the 'your nook is starting up' screen.
but I realised that my nook was on FW 1.2.1 so I factory reset it.
it still hangs on the same screen.
then i tried rooting it using the nook manager method on this site:
babblingengineer /how-to/how-i-turned-my-nook-into-an-e-reader-monster/
this all seemed to go fine but alas still stuck on the same screen!
So I factory reset it again!
and lo and behold still stuck on the same screen!
I am sorta at my wits ends so any help would be much appreciated!
sorry about the URLs but forum rules wont let me post them!

I'm still new at this (I had the same problem as you last night, actually).
I forgot that the SD card was still in the NST. The NST boots off the SD card first (compared to the interal file system) if the SD card contains a bootable image. If you take the SD out, it will boot on the internal file system and not the SD card. My problem was I had a faulty boot image on my SD card and so it was hanging on the boot because of that.
So I would take out the SD card and then hold the power button down until it reboots. Then immediately press the bottom two buttons on the front at the same time until it asks you to factory wipe, which is sounds like you have done before. I did this and it started up again, just like new.
Although you said that you used NookManager, which asks you to take out your SD card before it reboots, right? So maybe my help is of no use.

Right, the SD card was out and I tried the factory reset again anyway.
Still no luck.
cheers for your help though.
Anyone else have any ideas?

[Q] Stuck at rooting

Hello,
So i've tried to root the nook. Copied the touchnooter on my card, booted the nook. And then : forever stuck on the "root forever" or the "read forever" (when i get the card off)..
The hard reboot (20 sec on power off) doesn't work and i'm stuck at this "read forever" screen.
Is there a way to recover the nook ?
Thanks.. !
When doing the hard power off (long press) the screen doesn't usually change and you might be fooled into believing nothing happened.
Have you tried to let the unit settle for 10 seconds and then press power for a few seconds to see if it tries to boot?
Hey,
thanks for replying. I have tried a 30 sec hard boot + a reboot try but nothing happened. It freezes on the "nook is starting screen".
I afraid i have broke my device... But strangely i followed the rooting steps and nothing seemed to do wrong.. I guess.
Bye
If you can in fact get the unit to start booting, just long press power (10s +) as soon as you see the unit try to boot to interrupt the boot, then power it on again and repeat this procedure for 8 times (sucks, yes I know) and you should drop into factory reset.
Ok so i have to say : WTF !
So this morning i looked at my nook and saw that it still was on the "reading forever"/"starting" thing. As i saw your advice i tried to boot 8 time..
On the first boot attempt : it worked ! So maybe is was the eighth..
The nook started and asked me if i wanted to continue with android guy or "es something"... so i pressed android guy..
SO now i don't really know if the procedure went well ? Is it supposed to be rooted now ?
Thanks anyway for the time you took replying !
I hope my english is not too hard to read.
Bye,
By "android guy" I guess you're referring to the Android Welcome screen?
That would suggest that the Touchnooter went trough successfully.
Did you get Go Launcher and ButtonSavior up and running?
IIRC, whenever you do a fresh boot and try to use ButtonSavior you'll get a notice saying ButtonSavior has been granted superuser access, which would indicate that you're successfully rooted.
I had a similar problem, using touchnooter 1.11.20 and it was too quick. Maybe 45 seconds, removed card and restarted. Stuck in a boot loop, on tne "Nook" screen with the little blocks move across the screen and just keeps restarting. Fortunately I made a backup and was able to restore. Not sure what the problem is but I tried TouchNooter 5 times, downloaded it twice, wrote it to the SD cars 3 times and same result, Stuck on the nook screen, animation gets to the 4th dot and restarts. Tried salsichaNooter .4 with the same result. Any ideas on what the problem could be? It would be really nice if I could get a decent reader on this thing.
I made my life a little easier by having 2 micro SD cards to use, nookie on one and touchnooter on the other. I also made sure I had a good backup of my original ROM by opening the image with 7zip and the nook with partition wizard and verifying they were the same. At least I can gat it back to a working stock rom.
Why dont you try my new method?

PS:
..... insomnia Sucks......
Thanks, I'll see if this works.
Not really insomnia, trying to get this fixed before I have to put my wife on a plane. It's her nook touch, I have a color, it was so much easier.
I'm having a similar problem: I used SalsichaNooter, I let Rooted Forever to be on the nook screen for an hour, there were no messages on the screen no progress indication of any sort. I did a hard reboot after an hour and it seems at least some part of the rooting script worked - but how do i know the nook was rooted all the way through since it didnt reaboot during the rooting process as it should?

Sigh... I ran unooter on my nook color's drive instead of my sd card. Derp.

So yeah, the Nook and my SD card were plugged in and I ran unooter on the drive for the nook instead of the SD card. Needless to say, it borked my Nook. It boots up fine but as soon as the OS loads it tells me the nook needs to be reset and if the problem persists to contact customer service. I think it's pretty obvious that I resized the partion on my nook so that it's too small to even operate correctly. Any ideas? Plugging the nook into my computer no longer activates it as a drive. Thanks guys.
If you can still boot, couldn't you burn the clockwork image to an SD card and do a factory reset from CWM?
If that doesn't work, you could get the zips that repartition the internal memory that are found on ths site. I don't think I can post a link yet, but just search the forum for internal memory partition and follow the directions.
At worst, you could also try the three finger reset (hold down power, both volumes, and n button for ten seconds or so until the nook turns off and restarts, and then repress as it begins to reload a total of eight times in a row.) the nook will reset to factory stock upon the eighth consecutive restart.
Of course the easiest would probably be to restore a CWM backup, but I would think you would have tried that if you could.
I don't know much about autonooter, but I am willing to bet one of those would definitely work. as long as the boot process is starting you can preempt it and then have tons of options.

[Q] "Your Nook encountered an error that need to restart

I bought a new NST because I wanted to root it and use it as a summertime reader in place of my rooted Nook Color. I downloaded the required files from
[N2E][1.1] TouchNooter 2.1.31. Stupidly rushing though the install, I made two mistakes.
One, I didn't check to see what version of B&N software was running. Since it was newly opened, I'm suspecting that it was the earliest version.
Two, I inadvertantly left the NST plugged into the laptop when I did the install. When it booted up I get the Read Forever screen, then the scrolling dots, then it flashes a couple of times. When I slide the slider I see
[Q] "Your Nook encountered an error that need to restart
No matter how many restarts I try it shows this error everytime.
I tried both fixes in n2T-Recovery - Nook Simple Touch - Factory Restore / Recovery [v:0.2 17.11.11]. Neither helped. The .2 version indicates that it is doing a factory restore and it takes a bit of time. However, upon reboot, I am stuck in the same situation.
I am currently thinking I should try the initial TouchNooter 2 process and see if it helps.
Does anyone have any suggests? Thanks
I had similar problem. my problem was due to a disorder in "Media" drive.
I've solved this way:
I plug in device to pc and restart nook. after it booted up , nook drive and sdcard appear in My Computer. I format nook drive and restart it again and my problem solved ...
Thanks for the input. I tried the steps you outlined. When I rebooted the Nook showed up as another disk drive. I could see the contents of the drive. When I attempyed to format it, it immediately disappeared and says there is no disk in drive G:
I repeated the process and was able to created a folder in drive G:. I tried to do a chkdsk this time and got the same message as before.
Any other ideas?
did you test this tutorial :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360994
my idea is : first use "sd_128mb_clockwork-rc2.zip" image only.
with CWM ram you can format data and cache and system drives.
after solving error message , you can restore nook and root again...
Sounds reasonable. I'll make the CWM recovery card now. Would anyone else like to comment on this idea? I would hate to make things worse.
Well, I tried this. I booted to CWM.
First, I did a factory reset and rebooted. Still got the error.
Next, I formatted cache and data and rebooted. Same error.
Next, I formatted system. When I rebooted, I was stuck at the Read Forever screen.
I did some more reading at this point and thought I would try
n2T-Recovery - Nook Simple Touch - Factory Restore / Recovery [v:0.2 17.11.11]
I installed and rebooted. The system rebuilt itself and I am successfully running again. Thanks for all the advice and thanks to the developers

[Q] [NST] Stuck at boot screen NookManager

Hey,
I just read these threads to root my nook:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071855&highlight=nookmanager+loading+
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351
My NookSimpleTouch has the latest firmware from B&N.
Using dd I put NookManager on the microSD, turned off the Nook, inserted the card, and turned it on again.
The Nook is stuck at the startup screen saying 'NookManager Loading...' already for 20 minutes.
So I flipped the MicroSD card out, turned the Nook of. Made sure it still boots into NookOS and then repeated steps above with a new and freshly downloaded NookManager Image.
But also this second time I can;t get past the screen 'NookManager Loading...'.
The screen flashes every 20 seconds or so. But other then that no sign of live or progress.
Any tips?
Thnx!
(I use a Mac with OSX10.8.3)
try factory reset

but did u take backup???
try take backup before do that from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142983
good luck
Don't mess around with a factory reset. NookManager runs entirely off of the SD card and should always boot to the start screen no matter what.
I suggest trying a different SD card.
I have the same problem. Bought a second SD card, same problem.
Having the same problem on a 1.2.1

bricked Nook Glowlight 3

My Nook Glowlight 3 (rooted) was running quite slowly, and it seemed there were some problems with the disk, as some books were damaged and can't be opened. So I entered the TWRP recovery, wiped the partitions and then a factory reset followed. However, after that, Nook restarted and stuck at the following step. Tried POWER+HOME, POWER+RIGHT UP, POWER+RIGHT DOWN, Nook just restarted to the same screen and can not enter recovery any more. No ADB device as well.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
fixed
So how did you fix it? Seriously, this is so annoying for people who come later with the same problem to just see "fixed" with no details.
