Battery issues - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've problem with battery. Yesterday when I go sleep have my phone 93% battery. After 6 hours when I woke up I look at the phone and there was 91% battery - thats not bad but after 10 minutes SOT it dropped down to 87%. And it was dropping twice by 2% down in a moment. I'm using Franco M3 and PA 3.60. Is it normal? That's not first time. But normally when I'm using phone during day it not happen.

it might just have been because it didn't hardly go down at all in those 6 hours. That's happened to me before where I left it for a while and the battery didn't go down and when I started using it it went down faster than normal. Not sure what it is

Flash a different ROM or kernel and check if the problem is still there first

Hi, so I tried change ROM and kernel but it happened again after deep sleep

Hi,
it happens to me too. But I think it is quiet normal for a Nexus 4.

How old is the battery? You can pick up OEM Samsung replacements for like $7.00 on amazon. I have 3 myself.

Have you tried using a different kernel? Matr1x and marmite work best for me!
Well running pacman rom with matrix so gonna see how that does

Did you turn off auto-sync?
Looks normal to me lol... I'm getting horrible life... My 4G never turns off and I'll get maybe 3hrs screen-on time... Running stock 4.2

since you're talking about battery issues, idk if this is "normal" or not, but just now, my battery was at 38%, so i started to plug it in, tried doing a reboot and when it finished rebooting within seconds, all of a sudden, the battery jumps up to 60%...i think my phone's battery is fu**ed up

that always happen to me too ... deleting stats isn't usefull ... maybe it's a battery problem ... my battery isn't perfect but it can make about 2 - 2.30 screen on time and a total of 14 hours all sync active ... a newer battery could give me probably some more juice
Yea same result running matrix so I think its the battery
Hopefully.....

I forgot to mention that my battery was replaced a few weeks ago!

using straight aosp 4.2 with any kernel gets me at best, 5 hours of standby time. I noticed this about a month ago and immediately started looking for ways to prolong my battery life. What seems to be working best for me is disabling mobile data when I'm not using it. Just this one setting gives me a boost from 4-5 hours in standby to well over 12 hours of normal use (of course, with the exception of any web service). I have come home from 13 hour shifts and still had 30-40% battery left several times!! However, this only happens if I disable mobile data.
Something needs to be done....and QUICKLY!!! My phone is pretty damn well useless for anything involving internet connectivity unless I'm using wifi
btw, my battery is about 14 months old.
I'm pretty sure the battery drain is from 4.2, when I was running 4.1 I had no issues

Battery goes from 14% to 1% in minutes.

Hi there
Yesterday my phone just went from 14% power (after giving me the usual battery warning) to 4% in like two minutes. The other days before that, it's been very shirt time as well.
I don't turn anything off (like 3G, sync, etc.) when I get the 14% warning, but going down 10% in few minutes seems a bit extreme.
Have anyone tried the same? Or can someone explain why?
Thanks in advance.

Well at least you have no deep sleep issues. It can happen after a deep sleep period that the battery levels indicated are not up to date at the time it wakes up. Then comes a correction of the actual battery level.
Sv: Battery goes from 14% to 1% in minutes.
Okay, thanks a lot for the answer. So I should only begin to worry if it continues?

That probably will not happen, usualy only after a longer deep sleep period.

wow guys are you all serious??? i lose around 10-15 percent overnight man
Dude.. My phone was on 60 percent at 6pm once when I slept... Next morning at seven it was off... Wifi off data off.. All **** off... I dint even get a call or msg... Definitely not 1 percent I guess...
If I leave data and WiFi off, about 2% to 10% but that isn't usual. When I am home, I leave WiFi on and that gets my currents and YouTube video preloaded. 15% to 20% Max. I rarely leave it to charge overnight.

any suggests ?
REBOOTED - nothing, drain battery like hell, lose about 30-40% in 5 hours...
I woke up with 15-20% battery drained... wtf guys ?
I kill all apps, turn of data, wifi and etc, still nothing...
BATTERY STATUS - messaging use 84% of battery... wtf ?
To all of you having problems with battery drain, you should know that last Google Maps update messed up the deep sleep state of the system.
I´m running Carbon ROM, but also tested with other 2 ROM´s and the results were the same, around 20%-25% battery drain over night.
I read that disabling "Reporting Location" and "Location History" under Location settings in the Google Settings app(the one with the green icon) helps a little, but still is an issue.
With these settings disabled, I get around 5% battery drain over night. Although the wakelock has decreased, is still there waking up the device. Already reported to Google to see if they can do anything to fix it. The wakelock appears as "Android System" or "Google Services".
Before update I had around 3% battery drain over night(around 8 hours) with WiFi.
Hope this helps.
:fingers-crossed:
As a battery life druggie, I get 1% max. Regardless rom. Usually wifi off and 2g data on. (wifi on is bad for HUMAN DEEP SLEEP).
A not sure useful or not hint, set pm.sleep_mode=1 in your build.prop
Disable everything you can think of. Wifi, gps etc.
Uninstall bloatwares, replace with downloadable ones, use greenify to freeze them.

Hello guys i know thats my first thread in xda and that tread maybe looks noobish to you but i wanted to ask how is your Battery life with the OTA 4.3 update on nexus 4 i personaly installed

That is outstanding. But how in the world is it possible that you have a "screen on" state without being awake?
I have been fighting battery issues for so long now, I'd really like to get to something as good as what you get...
i get 5 hours on heavy use until i hit 10 % well my setup is in my signature on light use i am sure i can stretch it to 6 hours with brightness on auto and wifi is on most of the time
battery life is never going to be better for me unless i uv. the previous setup, i used cm 10.1.2 stable with matr1x kernel. i uv and set the max cpu to 1350. it was really really good. i can use the phone from 8am to 9pm.
now currently using aosp 4.3, the default setup battery life has improved a bit compared to 4.2.2 stock, but after semaphore kernel installed and uv a bit, even with max cpu at default which is 1.5ghz, battery life has been really great.

I've terrible battery usage after 4.3 update. I never had any issues before but now I get 20 to 30 percent drop during the night when before it was under 10 in the same scenario.
Android os Showing 6h usage...
Any help on sorting this out highly appreciated.
Battery life has increased a lot for me.
No heavy usage, I know. But still awesome compared to the stats I had when I bought my nexus 4

Just out of curiosity, are in you the US/North America?
I had the same issue of losing tons of battery to the OS overnight. I reflashed to an older version of the modem. Most of the people I have seen so far with these symptoms have been in France and India. Must be something about the cell services and how they interact with the phone.
@Calebz: I'm in Ireland.
I've restarted the phone since and the battery usage is back to normal, will see for how long.

It is normal. Battery level is an estimation and can fluctuate with reboots. I've had this with every phone with every rom, including stock.
