Is there any way to force LTE? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I live right at the edge of a LTE tower and my phone is constantly switching between 3g and 4g. Is there anyway I can force 4g?

Other than getting closer to the tower not really. You can't just make the Sprint network better from your phone. Try updating your prl and profile while on a solid lte connection. You can try manual prls too but I never use them.

Unless its a option built into a custom ROM there is no way to do it.

Bummer. Thanks for the answers. Its just annoying when I'm watching a YouTube video over 4g and all of a sudden it switches to 3g.

If you are on a ROM that supports the dialer codes you can go into your phone and dial
##3282#
Select "Edit" then input your MSL#
If you need to get your MSL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271618&highlight=msl
select Others -> HDR/1X Selection and select "LTE Only Mode"
I am not in a 4G area right now so I don't know if this will work or not but it looks like it should do what you are looking for.
If it doesn't work change it back to LTE+CDMA+EVDO Mode
EDIT: The #3282# dialer code works on stock ROMs and I tried this when I got home from work and it does do what you are looking for although if you move into a non 4G area you will need to go back in and enable CDMA to get service.

Awesome! Thanks I'll definitely try this out tomorrow.

At&t officially starting to BLACKLIST lost & stolen phones

This is straight from the top. Basically if you put your SIM in a phone that is blacklisted, it will automatically suspend your line until you get another phone. I will try to get a copy of the memo up here at some point today, but the system is active immediately, so be careful.
MEMO:

Vzw is doing the same thing as well and sprint and tmo from my understanding.

The rollout of blocklisting has been pushed back for undisclosed reasons. It's still happening, but more time-sensitive resources are showing that the rollout has been temporarily paused.
Also, as stated in the memo, this will actually only apply to stolen devices unless the customer requests otherwise. In the case of lost, suspension is still the recommended action.

CDMA carriers have done this for a long time.

They are making a cross carrier list now from what I read somewhere.

Yep, CDMA carriers have done this with ESNs for ages. The big difference now is that by October the list will be compiled and shared by all carriers, and it'll work for GSM.
Also, as of today it looks like blocklisting is active at ATT.

We had our first example of this earlier this week. Someone came in with a phone they had just "been given" and a few mins after putting their SIM card in, their account was suspended.
He called in while in the store and was told he couldn't get it reactivated for 30 days. The only thing that I'm not sure of is whether the phone was blacklisted by the person who lost it or by at&t automatically when reported.. Still trying to figure that part out.

n7100 on ATT network speed boost

This all may be very old info because I didn't look much into it, but yesterday I stopped being able to use mobile data on my phone. After doing a little research I saw that changing my APN could fix the problem. And boy, did it ever! Doing this made my network speeds go from 7Mbps to 13Mbps! ping time also improved from ~200ms to ~100ms.
Stock it uses the cingular 410 APN. I saw one on another thread that someone just called "phone". Name is phone, APN is called phone, MNC is 410 and MCC is 310. Everything else is just left to "not set".
I hope this isn't just a repost.

Go to settings-more settings-mobile network-access point names and then hit the menu button to add a new apn. Then just enter the info in the previuos post.
I hope this works out for others like it did for me.

Of the speed tests or something else?
http://db.tt/8vcWzGdF
I had my doubts but was bored and decided to give it a go.
Putting in the "phone" apn did boost me about 3000kbps on the download and cut my ping in half. Just to make sure it was not a fluke, I switched back to cigular and tested and then back to phone again and sure enough the improvement was present.

I tried it and I couln't get data at all. Had to switch back to wap. I wonder if it has something to do with the data package I have with at&t......

Quirks I've noticed

I have the T-Mobile version and I've noticed some quirks and was hoping for some answers.
First Google Keyboard, why does it sound like a typewriter instead of the traditional ticking noises heard on the Galaxy S4?
Next is there a way to make WiFi Calling sound better? When I use cellular service the call quality sounds decent but during WiFi it sounds bad.
When I download something why doesn't it show up in downloads? I downloaded a new .apk from tapatalk to help them diagnose a problem with a forum. Went to my download app via app drawer and its not there. Had to go to the download folder via file manager to find it.
How do I access or turn off my clipboard. I use Dashlane and find this to be a huge security flaw. It stores way too many passwords or things.
Cyanogenmod support is this possible?

I also have t mobile variant of this phone, and I have not noticed the wifi issue you have explained. In fact it sounds a lot better for me, it might be your wifi itself, slow speeds = lower quality. Only thing I see fit is too get a faster wifi, or better signal. As for cm support its possible we are waiting for unlocked boot loader.

Tapatalk download in ANY phone won't show up because of the way it downloads. Dunno about clipboard. And..the phone hasn't been out for two weeks. Wait for more roms.

How much speed is needed for good WiFi calling? Perhaps it is my phone specifically. Typically I get around 50Mbps but for some reason I can't get past 35Mbps. Not sure what's going on.

Well I just got a replacement phone and it sounds the same. The guy at T-Mobile says he hears it too but doesn't think its bad. He thinks its just the way its designed. He went ahead and gave me a replacement just to "appease" the customer I'm sure but at the end of the day it sounds the same.

Question on t-mobile network

I been using this phone over a week now and I love it. Battery is great and it last 2 days for me. I am using this on t-mobile network but on notification bar it shows 4G, Does this not support LTE? My wife is using Moto x and LTE is showing up there. Do I need to change anything? Is wifi calling possible? Please let me know.
Thanks.
Yeah the 4G means 4G LTE. I am also using the phone on T-Mobile and the status bar only says 4G, but if you go into Settings > About Phone > Status you'll see it say LTE under Cellular Network Type.

As far as Wi-Fi calling goes, I'm not sure but I would assume if the phone doesn't do it now, it probably will be able to after a future update.

This phone doesn't support band 12 which t-mobile utilizes to deliver LTE to a lot of areas. The Moto X pure has band 12.

I guess I'm just lucky? Mine will occasionally switch to HSPA+ in some spots, but most of the time, I have 4G LTE. I have the 551KL, not sure if that's the one you're referring to or one of the 550s. It's hard to keep everything straight when there are so many variants of the phone lol.
Either way OP - if it says 4G on your status bar, you have 4G LTE service wherever you are.

Thanks all for your responses, and yes I have 551KL

I'm pretty sure that as long as the APN settings are correct, it doesn't matter what the actual APN is named. Are you on an unlimited plan and if so do you consume a lot of data each month? They may have slowed you down temporarily if you're in your area's peak hours.
I have same settings but it's LTE, that's the proper setting. Worry not the name

Ok thank you all and I'm on unlimited but have been on WiFi.. I know my note 4 pulls 35+ down but this nexus is barely getting 1mbps.... Customer service tried to say unlocked devices may not receive the same speeds etc

Its rare that a Customer Rep would know the correct answer, you'll get 10 different answers from 10 Rep's!
I changed my apn from default to the Nexus 6 settings....a quick Google search will take you to the T-Mobile support page. Haven't had an issue, except sometimes mms doesn't send, and I'll get duplicate messages especially from my girlfriend's iPhone 6s plus
