[Q] (Q) S4 19500 VS 19505 developers support - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
im thinking of upgrading to s4 but im confused between the lte (19505) and the 3g (19500) versions in my country the 3g model is 100 $ cheaper than the 4g , but what i really care about is the developers support which one of them will get better support (roms,mods...etc ) , i searched the forum for similar questions but they were posted before launch now that they are both launched which one is better , and is the 4g worth the extra 100 buck , one more question why does samsung keep dropping the prices of their devices while other phones like the iphone keeps consistent prices even after the release of its predecessor

I have the i9500 and sold it poor development and sammy not releases the exynos source
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Android market is more competitive, many handsets out there. Apple only have one device so can keep their price the same with no competition. Markets fluctuate, prices drop, competition forces prices down and such, demand and supply etc etc.
As for development, the i9505 will be the most active, if the GE edition is based on the same hardware then without a doubt this will be the most developed for model.

is it worth the extra 100

anyone ?

I9505 is better
It has more power than I9500
Because 8cores will not work together
Cyanogen will support I9505
I9500 won't support from developers
Because the informations about Exyon are very less
Buy the LTE model

Does your carrier support 4g? If so, it'll be better to get i9505. Moreover, there seems to much more development for i9505 than i9500.

Get i9505 then. It has more developer support and you can also use the 4g for your carrier.

S4 Octa-core Version on USA LTE

We know Octa S4 can have LTE on it, But will it have USA LTE BANDS? Will the International LTE version work on ATT or tmobile?
Who would like octa s4 LTE work with USA LTE bands? How would it work, if it support either att or tmobile LTE?
well Samsung said OCTA-CORE (I9500) will come with LTE Support? it was just said that Exynos chip do supports LTE, but they will not add LTE Chip or whatever it's called in I9500, although i would like to see LTE Version for everyone, one model is better than two different variants

i9500 does not have an LTE modem (although it would support a LTE modem, if Samsung decided to add one). So no, you can't have LTE with the i9500
Well guys Samsung made one but it's Korea only. samsung is not releasing it for the whole world because they can't produce so many octa chips. Here is a link confirming it. Hit thanks please

I hate it when people ask for thanks....especially when they really didn't even do anything - you shouldn't do.stuff on xda looking to raise that thanks bar...just do them to be helpful and if people find you helpful then they will thank you...simple as that
asking for thanks just makes you look desperate in my opinion

LAtin America S4
What variant will the LAtin America S4 have? And will the Korean version work on AT&T HSPA+21 ?
South and Latin America are getting the non LTE version. The only market (announced) getting the Octa with LTE is Korean and not even all of that market since the LTE variation is being made for a specific carrier if I understand it correctly.
I hear that korean version has issues with sms in NA since their software is a bit different. The octa shouldn't be worth importing the device... The snapdragon 600 it still a great performer and you won't notice real world performance difference. Benches are going to be better but are you buying your phone for benchmarking or to use it?

[Q] The korean SGS IV (SHV-E300) possible to import?

Hello XDA!
Does anyone know if it would be possible to import the SGS IV edition with exynos octa core and 4G (LTE) (SHV-E300) to Europe?
I can't find any thread with that suggestion - Is it because it's just not possible (some import/export restrictions), technical difficulties (carriers not supporting etc.) or just too expensive?
My case is: I own the SGS II and my carrier has planned to open for the LTE in late Q3. So at one side, I want to have the i9505, but when I read the benchmarks I really want to buy i9500. Then I saw a thread in here some place and an article at gsmarena saying that the korean version would be, kind of a fusion of i9500 and i9505
So is it possible or should I just forget about it?

Just be careful in doing so. To my knowledge, a lot of firmware built into those S4's are to support Korean specific carrier features which can interfere with your carrier's features. For example, I know texting is usually heavily effected. Given the limited release of it, just be ready to run into difficulty and have patience if you're going to do so before it's fully compatible with what your carrier has to offer for just a few higher benchmarks.

I live in South Korea, the official release will be 25th of April which are couple days counting from I posted this.
I am also still waiting for the detail review and official specification, even here in S. Korea, some web just mention internal memory 16 G, 1.9 octa core, some mention 1.8 octa core.. well wait and see.
I sent some cellphone frequently to South East Asia countries, so far ok but need to deal with custom stuff. Not sure about europe.
Yes, absolutely right if S.Korea smartphone made very custom to S. Korea market, like limitation of SMS to 80 character, they have DMB TV that only works in S. Korea etc. You have to deal with it if you use it in your country.
cheers
If you really want 4G, not sure if really worths buying the Octa. There is an Antutu test where S600 gets 28k, just as Octa and S600 have better GPU.
For me, 4g is just stupid, I want Octa but waiting some reviews, more precisely some opinions related to the battery life and some updated GPU benchmarks

Usually get the K version for Asia countries. As mentioned you have a second choice of the China variant as well.

It's a good choice, but it's same as the international one. I don't want a limited edition, because I know that I will have few-to-zero support for it.
Exactly the same. I live in France and we only have that ****ing snapdragon with its old fashionned adreno 320. I wish I could buy the octa version, but with 4g (carriers are upgrading to 4g 800MHz 1800MHz and 2600MHz I think) **** I'm fed up, always compromise with samsung. I wanted to import the shv-e300 but it is too specific to korea. It's gonna be hard to find international upgrade. Maybe the rugged version "active" will fully satisfy me I'm ready to pay for it. But not ready to pay for an ordinary s600

The screen is fabulous, definitely one of the best I've seen especially watching videos. There's some very bug in the stock ROM but overall a very polish product. There's still 80chars sms limit but I hope I can find some time and port CM to it

Apparently, a GS4 with a Snapdragon 800 chipset has showed up on Antutu benchmarks, clock speeds are apparently going to be 2.3 ghz with the Adreno 330 GPU. So, if it was me, I would wait for that one. Also it's called the Galaxy S4 LTE Advanced or something.

I just upgraded to the SVH-300K and rooted it. It is an excellent phone. The SMS limit doesn't bother me simply because everyone I know uses kakao talk or viber. I only know 2 people that don't have smart phones here. I have found no flaws with it that can't be fixed after rooting, i.e. removing bloatwear. The phone is extremely fast and I love the dual application usage feature were you can actively use 2 apps at one time. To the best of my recollection I hadn't heard anyone mention this on reviews for the I9500 and I9505. Is this application not on them or are people just not using it much?

How to get hold of the S4 Octa?

This week I'm upgrading and will go for the S4. I live in the UK and will go onto Vodafone, however I will be open to switch carriers. I understand there are 3 variants of the S4 the Korean, International and UK/US. And the latter being the Gt-i9505, with the Snapdragon 600 and Adreno 320, while the International is the Gt-i9500, which has the Octa chip and PowerVR SGX 544MP3, yeah I know people will tell me there is virtually no difference, however I'm interested in buying the i9500 as I'd like to see what such a chipset can do, and more so to the point, I dont want to spend so much money and not even be the best (me being me). So my question is, where can I buy on contract an S4 i9500, the 3g version? As after searching all the carriers websites I cannot find one anywhere, and the area I live anyway will never see 4g, so whats the point? If its impossible to get one through a carrier, is there anyway to find one without a £550 upfront cost? As buying the 505 would be pointless, as I wont buy the 4g deal, so I'll have a 4g capable phone which I cant use, in an area it wont appear, with a worse processor and GPU. If it is totally impossible I'll accept that however I like choices and as a buyer spending this much I would like a choice..
Thanks in advance for any answers!
I'm intersted in this too . .specially now that the AT&T S4 has the bootloader locked.

No one can say for sure, but you'll likely need to get the 9500 from an online retailer or another carrier. Samsung has yet to put the LTE radio in its Exynos SoC (system on a chip - what powers the 9500) so that's not going to happen mid-release for the Galaxy S4. And its highly unlikely they are going to release an LTE-enabled one and non-LTE one onto the same carrier in the same market. That just creates buyer confusion.
Only thing is for you "best of the best" types, the octa will run on the arm 7 chip most of the time. So in reality the snapdragon version is better, unless of course you just get off on running benchmarks all day. The arm 15 is the best but what's the point if it never gets used? Just my opinion, I have no right to tell anyone what they need. I WANT LTE, but all I really need is a big screen, email and a decent talker.

I see what you mean, and I've been checking performance numbers of both the sxg 544mp3 and Adreno 320, and it's pretty similar.. so I feel pretty happy to get the 9505. It seemed great in the shop, far smoother than my S3, thanks for everyones help:good:

[Q] i9500 vs i9505 vs The 'Google Edition' S4

I'm going to buy the S4 in a few weeks, and I can't decide which one to choose, especially after google released the one running vanilla android.
The international, i9500 exynos variant is the best one, I think, as its the international version and it might get more dev support.
on the other hand, the i9505 snapdragon variant is more reliable when it comes to dev support, as qualcomm does release the source code for its SD600 processor.
The google edition, as its going to support LTE, i think will be based on the i9505, as our dear Samsung very conveniently disable the LTE radios on its exynos processors.
So I am confused which one to buy.
If i get the i9505 (snapdragon), would i be able to flash an AOSP/AOKP rom perfectly, without any issues? Like will I be able to switch between AOSP and touchwiz without any hassle? and as the google edition will have the same chipset, would i be able to run rock solid and bug free aosp roms on it? (i honestly am more inclined towards touchwiz than aosp/aokp, but i dont mind switching for some time)
Also, I heard that i9500 has a better camera sensor, and has slightly better battery life than i9505. Is that true?
And qualcomm is going to release the snapdragon 800 within a couple of months, and i dont want to buy a phone for about $800 (nearly 50k in rupees here in India) only to realize that my latest gadget is now obsolete. I have already experienced that with my iPad 3 .
I'll be moving to USA in august for college, and honestly, i dont think LTE would be much use to me as 3G is more than enough for my needs. Plus LTE is a huge battery hog.
Also, as our dear Samsung does not release source code for exynos, more CM/AOKP/PA devs will move towards the i9505, and with that logic, the i9500 should get more support from devs working on TW based roms, like salesale and :indie: (I love neatrom on my S2).
So which one should I get?
P.S. Only the i9500 version is available in India, I'll have to get the i9505 from amazon if I end up buying that.
Just be careful what bands the phone supports. I think if you in the States it would be wise to get your carrier branded version

as both the i9500 and i9505 are unlocked and unbranded, I think I'll go for either of them, as they will be compatible with all bands worldwide, not only US and India. Also, I prefer not to be tied to a network with a contract. (I'm more of a free bird )
But the question that remians in, which one should I go for? The i9500, the i9505, or the stock google edition?
The google edition will be based on i9505, so on one hand i'll recieve updates as soon as they are released, but would i be able to switch between AOSP roms and TW-based roms?

I just received my i9500 a week ago and I am lovin it! The phone is one heckuva beast and I have yet to run into any problems with it. Also a heads up, I've heard TouchWiz runs smoother on the i9500 than the i9505 as it is optimized for it better. The camera is definitely one of this phone's highlights and I can say for myself that I see the differences in camera sensors/image quality between the two.
Sorry for the late reply, I was busy with my high school finals!
And thank you all for your opinions, but im still pretty much confused on which one to go for. the i9500 or thr i9505?
As I said before, the variant needs to be GSM, and only two networks in the US offer GSM: AT&T and T-Mobile.
I'll be moving to West-Lafayette, Indiana in a couple of months, therefore, I need to know which one of the two (AT&T and TMobile) would support the GS4 properly. I dont care about 4G LTE as HSDPA+ is fast enough for me, but I've heard that some frequencies don't work properly on those networks, resulting in poor reception and slow data transfer speeds.
So, it would be really helpful is someone could point me in the right direction, should I go for i9500 or i9505? I'm a bit more inclined towards i9500.
Thanks in advance!
Go for the one with Samsung's modified version of Android. Don't wait for the Google Edition. The advantage with this one is as soon the Google Edition drops, there will be AOSP ROMs for the Samsung edition S4 but the vice-versa won't be true.

That's all fine, but now I'm asking which one should I go for? the i9500 (Exynos) or the i9505 (snapdragon)? I'm not sure which one would work better in Lafayette Indiana on AT&T or T-Mobile (in terms of network coverage, 3G download/upload speeds etc)

LTE is not avaliable on your hardware. You will need to purchase the 9505 variant for LTE.
So your question is redundant

will you have the need of downloading stuff at high speeds? if not, then no, its not worth it
Well ive been living in cyprus for my whole life, fast speed for me is 10mbps and the fastest speed available in cyprus from an isp is 20-30mbps, in cellular in H+ i get approx 7- 8mbps its very fast for me if u consider that my house network is 2mbps so for me is not really worth it.

this suggests you will be able to use LTE with your i9500
And that would be incorrect. The I9500 is not LTE capable. The E300K/L/S versions support LTE.

the reason i bought galaxy s4 GT I9505 here in italy is because of the lte radio in it. and i say the speed is very impressive. i have already tested 3 networks here namely vodafone, tim and h3g and i spend lots of money just to activate and test their speeds via speedtest.net. h3g has the fastest reaching speeds of up to 73.46 Mbps download and 13.89 Mbps upload, but it is still very costly to download files through this technology, maybe in time it will go down. however, activation of lte here in italy costs 1 euro/month for h3g, 6 euro per week for tim and for vodafone its automatically activated without cost, its the traffic that costs a lot. rigth now i am limited to only 150 Mb per day but good enough to browse the net and do my banking transactions using this phone via lte due its speed.

Yeah, to be exact, the 9505/E300K/L/S supports LTE but not LTE-A, which is what the 9506/E330 supports... I think? And neither on the 9500.
Edit: got it wrong first time around...

Ahaa, useful, thanks both. How sure are you about the 9506?
So if I wanted a 32gb white S4 with LTE-A, I can forget about the 9500, and potentially forget about the 9505 since I can't find it for a good price/at all in white in the USA, and also it's maybe worth waiting anyway since the 9506 is the 9505 with a souped-up processor?
Don't suppose anyone knows any more about the 9506?
It can't be far away, a telecom company in Germany will be selling it and it's soon to get FCC approval in the US http://www.sammobile.com/2013/08/17/international-lte-a-galaxy-s4-gt-i9506-visits-fcc/
Almost wishing I'd waited now!

Been looking into it: seems that IFA (a tech show in Berlin) is on literally now here and Samsung are currently going through their wares. Nothing yet about phones, only smartwatches & tablets, I assume they'll be the big finale.
Or not: looks to have finished, nothing explicitly about the 9506 or 9507. Peculiar. Maybe the situation with the S4 has gotten so fractured and confusing they can't even bring themselves to announce the new models?!

Apparently Samsung are planning a review to look into the disappointing sales of the S4. I wonder to what extent those poor numbers are attributable to Samsung flooding the market with a confusing myriad of ultra-similar models?
By my reckoning there are 3, soon to be 5 variants of the same model, with up to three (64gb never seen in the wild) RAM options and colour schemes differentially available depending on location, with international capabilities mostly understood from enthusiast messageboards (esp here). There's already talk of the S5. Why on earth didn't they wait a while to get everything in place and make one international LTE-A compatible variant with the best version of their Exnos chip tweaked and mass produced and working well, all RAM & colour options available from the outset?
Yep. The number of S4 variants is crackers. It feels like the phone was rushed to market to meet a deadline set by PR/marketing people who weren't communicating with engineers... that's just me speculating though!
I wonder if the 9506 will have a bigger battery? That Snapdragon 800 will surely consume more power.
