Installing CM updates from settings - Nexus Q Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm using my nexus Q with cm10.1 steelhead. Release candidate updates and nightlies are available to download and install from settings. However I'm only able to download. After download I click update, the Q flashes red for several minutes, reboots, but the update doesn't install. It's still on the same version. I know I'm missing something. I know the forums are full of experts and this has to be a simple solution.

can't install FLASH on 4.1.1 ?

Just bought our 2 nexus 7 tablets today....We want to root them but haven't yet. I was trying to update the FLASH to the latest as one of my websites and one game wanted me to do that. I was taken to the google paly and there was a message that the lastest FLASH can NOT be installed on this device and I read that it is NOT support for OS over Ice Cream 4.0? Can some one tell me what I can do? Do I have to root to do this?
Thanks

No, you don't have to root to install flash. You have to download the apk and install it, that's all.

I did root my nexus 7 and I did install flash by sideloading...but I get a blue box sometimes and other times I get the message that I need to upgrade flash...I used Dolphin HD browser on the nextus and chrome and the same thing happens in both.
Somewhere I read something about renaming two files...don't remember where I read that or what two file. I do know I didn't do it because 1. I wasn't able at the time to find the files 2. it didn't say what to rename them????
Any suggestions on what I have to do...my nexus 7 is now updated to 4.1.2
Thanks
Tried this doesn't work either...

Slimbean auto rotate broken

Just flashed slimbean on nexus 4. Works great except for orientation stuck in portrait. Been flashing my Vibrant for years so I'm not a total noob, but haven't posted much and can't post in developer forum yet.
Anybody else experience this? I flashed latest stable build and then AIO addon. Could that add on be the problem since I didn't flash the gapps alone first?

UPDATE
Tried reflashing ROM and Slim Gapps, but rotation is still broken. I've checked all of the settings and it is enabled in all of them.

RESOLVED
Okay, did a little more searching and found the problem was the radio. I still had the .48 radio from 4.2.2. I didn't realize the ROM didn't include a radio/baseband. So I flashed this radio (http://d-h.st/hlR) from this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087227) and all is well!

Stock rom rooted issues

Hey guys I have recently rooted my Nexus 4 and left the stock rom on it. Now a few days later I am experiencing issues mainly with apps that change settings, like juicedefender or a cpu speed app.
I have done some research and according to juicedefender error log it shows I need to have busybox or I should have CyanogenMod.
Ok i hav 3 questions
1. Will installing busy box cause me to lose any data?
2. I know installing CyanogenMod ROM will clear all my data is there a way for me to backup need for speed and bad piggies?
3. Is there a way for me to keep my stock rom and fix these problems?

Since you're rooted all you need to do for backups is download Titanium Backup and use that to keep all of your data.
Alright im a noob at all this any idea if i should get cm nightly, stable or whatever version ? And if i go with release candidate can i change it to nightly in the future?

You will probably want to start with a stable release before jumping into a nightly. Nightly build aren't really known for stability.

To update cm all you need to do is download new rom, boot to recovery, flash rom and gapps, wipe cache, reboot. Of course this only applies if the rom base hasn't changed, which is infrequent.

If you are going to flash cm for the first time a wipe is required. Usually wipes aren't required when flashing a newer version of a Rom.
But will it wipe data automatically? No. Wiping data is an option you have to confirm in recovery.
Is that what you are asking?

Thanks thanks i will be flashing cm soon, thx so much yall. Sent a donation to mskip for making it so easy to do all this.

[Q] How to find out which app cause random reboot?

Hi,
Since the last 2 months (maybe the last android update), my nexus 4 reboot ramdomly. Do you guys know a way to find out which app causing my those reboot (I've already install catlog)? Do you guys witness the same behaviour?
It would be nice to fix the problem without reseting the phone.
I'm running stock rooted android JWR66Y. here a list of the app using root access:
- ad free 0.8.64
- greenify 1.92
- permission manager 2.0
I use apx as launcher.
Thx
Right after reboot grab your last_kmsg log

Hi,
what to do with last_kmsg?
It shows lots of numbers, some info etc.
and last line saying: Last boot reason: kernel_panic
How to understand this log?
thanks
What kernel are you using? Your kernel Dev will likely be able to assist.

Chrome is the issue. If you guys want a easy way to take logs use syslog app from playstore

Simple ROM and Device compatibility question

I have a Nexus 4 running on 4.4.2 update base ROM. I've unlocked and rooted my phone, with multiple root tests to be sure. I've also downloaded the Franco kernel. Though its not working, so I assume its cause its a nightly version. From the information I've found those don't always work.
Back to my question though. My devices is a Mako, which goes along with being a Nexus 4 right. So why is it when I downloaded the cyanogenmod mako latest ROM it didn't work? Came up with an error comparing device and product as being mako, and some status 7 thing. I did a restore and now I'm here.
I've tried to install it view clockwork recovery, and from the ROM manager app. Both came up with those errors. Am I doing something wrong?

It looks like you don't have the latest version of cwm on you're phone. Try updating you're CWM to the newest version. Or install twrp recovery ( newest version and try again.
Be warned if you install twrp recovery then you're backup made in cwm recovery wont work should you wish to use it.
Below is a screen shot showing you're problem.
Phone : Nexus 4 /Rom : cataclysm / Kernel : Stock.
Thanks. I updated clockwork and it worked perfectly. Though its extremely annoying that I don't get my apps and data and all that I would normally get when doing a regular Google based ROM. Is there a way to get all that with custom ROMs? Do I just need to do a flash of Google play store or something?

If you flash Gapps immediately after flashing the ROM, it should give you the options to download your apps and system settings during initial setup, if that's what you're asking.

You need to flash gapps package for google apps like playstore, gmail..etc. Link are often given together in the OP of the rom thread.
Excellent. Thank you all. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those! You've all been a great help.

One more question. Kernels. I know some are ment purely for custom ROMs. But is there a place I can get Kernels for a stock ROM? I haven't decided on a custom ROM yet, but I'd like to tweak this one as much as I can before.

They support both, the exception being with CM kernels.
