I have tried looking for these, but it's been a long night of not understanding some of this stuff and I've gotten to that dreaded, "I give up, this isn't worth it" point. Because of this I may simply not be seeing the answers right in front of me. These are the things I don't understand right now.
1. I've followed the steps to the letter about installing CM7 on an SD card. Then I try to follow the steps to get gapps on there and can't boot into recovery. I don't think I actually can boot into recovery from sd but it doesn't say no anywhere. Confused.
2. I don't get why there is a dialer on the ROM. It's so strange that it makes me question whether I did something wrong. Am I the only one that thinks this is wierd or is there some backstory to why it's been left built into the ROM? There's gotta be some reason.
3. Still can't find anything that tells me how I would go about installing apps that I have apk files for on my computer, where I copy them to on my sd card, and where I put other files (pdfs, docs, videos, music) that I want to be able to run.
4. Is an sd card ROM install REALLY the same as booting from the nook itself? Or dual-booting? I feel like it couldn't possibly be the same speed or fluidity. i need to have the ROM but I also need easy access to the actual Nook.
Again, I'm probably wrong in my thinking with some of these things, but very often, even in noob guides, these questions aren't really addressed directly. Anyway, if someone can help me understand these things, I'd really appreciate it. I'm almost at my wit's end fishing for these answers.

1) Just let cm7 load up. Then hold power. A menu comes up. Select reboot. Then select recovery. Then it will do its thing.
2) Cyanogenmod's builds it rom for multiple devices, most of which are phones, so there are items in the rom that pertain to phones ie. dialer.
3) Apks can be placed on any storage area of sd card, or even emmc for that matter, all you need is a file explore like Astro or I believe cm7 rom comes with a file explore. Then just go to the location where you saved the apk and you will be given the option to install the apk.
4)This depends on your sd card. Sandisk cards are the pick of the litter and provide a good user experience. If you use a less worthy sd card then yes there will be lag and it will be less fluid. I myself am on emmc but my friend is on a sandisk card and both perform pretty much the same.

1. To boot into recovery easily boot into CM7 then on the homescreen hold down the power button until the power off menu appears choose "reboot", in the next menu choose "recovery" and press "OK". The nook would reboot straight into recovery.
2. Those apps are included to allow more apps to show up in the market. You didn't do anything wrong.
3.To install APK applications on your Android phone do the following:
Copy the APK file you want to install to your phone's memory card and insert the card into your Android phone.
Go to Android Market and search for the Apps Installer, App Installer, z-App Installer or Fast Installer application.
Open it and click on the Install button.
After it is installed, just open it. It will show you all the APK files stored directly in the root directory of your memory card.
Just click on the application you want to install and it will be installed.
You could also just install a file manager app like Astro File Manager and then browse to the APK and install it.
4. Depends on the SD card if you using a sandisk card there isn't really any difference but eMMC is always going to be at least a little bit faster and SD cards are more likely to fail quicker but if your using a sandisk you really shouldn't have a problem.

I've done it half a dozen times. It doesn't root into recovery. I've rooted and flashed my phone several times, so I'm comfortable with the process.

I only see a really tiny partition to save apks and videos and not enough to save stuff on the card.

Try putting your sd card back into your computer and put the google apps zip in the boot partition again. Then try the steps mentioned above.
That tiny partition is your boot partition there should be others that were created for storage purposes. I think verygreens process creates 4 partitions. You might need partitioning software to see the other partitions if your computer does not recognize them.

I dont know, Im thinking I might not have recovery. Is that even possible?
I had first used the microsd card to try a Honeycomb ROM and then used win32diskimager to place the cm7 rom on there thinking it would completely write over what was there. Should I have formatted instead?
Maybe this is an opportunity to try the rc 7.1?

Yes I would suggest that you format and start from the beginning using verygreens process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 and CM 7.1 rc.
As far as recovery no you do not have recovery such as clockwork mod per-say. This part of the process doesn't take you to a recovery menu. What it does is initiate the install process of the google apps zip.

I still don't get how I'm supposed to copy media to the microsd when I can only access a small part of it. This is all I can see on Windows Explorer.
How do I put a 600MB video file on the card or anything else (music, documents, etc) if I only have room for this much??

What you are seeing is the boot partition. Your storage is on the 4th partition. To access your storage space you should transfer it over through the nook via USB.

Actually, that is because when you created the image to on the card the software only formatted as much as it needed for the image and left the rest unformatted. Download EaseUS to your PC and you can then stretch the unformatted partition out or create an additional one and get your space back. Even so, you can only access it through usb via the NOOK, at least on Windows since it only sees the very first FAT32 partition, which appears to be the boot partition.
You guys are awesome. I've totally come to understand better this whole process. I was at that deep-end point last night where nothing was making sense, everything was coming out wrong, and ai was ready to give up. Now I have a pretty smooth running and sweet cm7 nook color. I wish it could run Honeycomb but alas... maybe in time.
For now, the only thing missing for me is to know what the best video player is for CM7 and whether Flash runs on this ROM or not in browsers.

Hmmm... Weird. All of a sudden, I can't move any apps or access the pop-up menu when I tap and hold the home screen. It's almost like the screen is locked.

Thanks, just noticed this.
I have a Nook Color. Somehow (and I really can't recall how), I can no longer get to the B&N side of my Nook. Even with the micro-SD out, I still go directly into CYANOGEN. To make matters worse, every single app I try to get from the market will not download. Once I 'Accept & download', the app starts to download then I get an Error overlay screen: "name-of-software" could not be downloaded due to an error.
So I have a V--E--R--Y generic tablet that can't do much. Please help.

That's part of the problem. I did not consciously install to internal memory, I wanted it to boot from the SD card.

That's what I did once. I unwittingly installed it onto the internal memory. It also happened to be really buggy. I restored it to stock using Clockworkmod Recovery. Did you use the installer for the SD card?
On a 16GB microSD, I used Win32DiskImager to write 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer to a newly-formatted SD card.
I put the ZIP file for: gapps-gb-20110828-signedgapps-gb-20110828-signed, and gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.
I tried the home-power key combo. It asks me if I'm sure that I want to restore to the factory. I say "Yes" but when the Nook starts up, I'm still in cyanogen mod.
Should I (re-)format the MicroSD, write 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer (or another version) then move recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.1-encore?
Aside from not being able to get back to B&N-supplied software, I can't do anything with the NC as an Android tablet.

Power down your NC. Wait approximately 10 seconds or so-- just give it a bit of a break between shut down and factory reset.
Press and hold power button and your "N" home button almost simultaneously-- press Power first and then the N.
Hold these until your screen flashes the "Touch the future of reading" message; hold for a second or two afterward, then release. You will then get a prompt asking if you want to reset your nook to factory. Press the home button to continue. It will ask you to confirm. Press the home key again. Your nook will deregister, reset, and when it reboots, you will see "Kate" in her tutorial video, as if you'd never registered it in the first place.
(Obviously your account info will still be valid-- simply register with your email/pw combo instead of creating a new account.)

I did this (more than once - grrrrrrrrrrrrr!). I never see the "touch the future....." message. Instead, I get a cyanogen mod 7 screen with the message "Booting into Recovery". Then I get a sickly yellow-greenish screen that asks (twice) if I want to teset. I confirm both times then it "wipes" the data. It then boots into a cyanogen mod 7 screen (and the skateboarding 'droid) and I go through the registration process.
Now, when I select a Google app, the downloading (Google Maps) seems to be taking forever, but at least I'm not getting the error I got before.
Also, I do not see the progress of the download that I'm used to seeing on my phone. All I see is "movement" under the "Downloading..." message. How long do I leave it before I abort the download?
Your micro sd card is removed right?

Eyeballer is a clockwork recovery bootable SD image which is used to install stuff (e.g. CM7) to internal memory.

VeryGreen (size agnostic thread) is the SD image which creates a full OS on the SD card itself leaving the internal memory alone.

You have used the Eyeballer method and have therefore done an internal install. You must also have installed a CM7 zip not just the gapps zip as they are just google apps and not an actual ROM.
You have 2 ways forward.
The simplest is if you want to end up with internal CM7 and are not interested in running the B & N ROM. Start again by creating the Eyeballer SD card using win32diskImager. Make sure you use a real USB SD adapter and not a card slot on a laptop. Put onto the card the CM7 ROM zip. I recommend the one from the KANG MiRaGe thread in the development forum. It is the most up to date and stable version available at the moment. Also put on one gapps zip (20110828). Now put the card in Nook, Power up and when in recovery then use the menus to format system, data and cache. Do NOT format boot. Then flash the CM7 ROM zip, then the gapps zip. Power down and prepare a clean SD card either by reformatting the eyeballer card with something like the HP USB card utility or a partition manager in the PC like miniTools. You could also use a different SD card if you want to keep the eyeballer one for future use. Put the card back in, power up and you should now be in a stable CM7 environment where you can set up wifi, register with the Google market and download apps.
The second way if you really want to return to stock on the internal and run CM7 of the SD card then use the eyeballer method but instead of flashing CM7 and gapps you now use a return to stock zip. Make sure you still format the partitions as before.

Once you have it back to stock and upgraded to whatever stock you want then follow the VeryGreen method from the link above. Once the SD card has put CM7 on itself, do not worry that there is only a 114MB space if you ever put the card back in the PC. That is normal; it is just the boot partition that the PC sees. The rest of the card can be seen if you USB connect the Nook to the PC.

I'm back at the NC "baseline". I tried to go back to a 1.2 (which is what it came with) using "update-nc-stock-1.2-signed". Once I re-booted, it kept returning to the NOOK COLOR screen. Then I used a 1.0.1 from your last post. It came back fine with 2 exceptions. 1) I now have a message that I need to install a SD card. When I do, my (Windows Explorer) "Computer" screen only recognizes the SD card and not the Nook. These are piddly little issues, but if I can get them fixed, great! (Right now, I cannot upgrade the NC or move any books or load any apps.

I had this same problem. Since I am a new member, and can't post links, I'm going to try to help.
Install Clockwork Recovery to an SD card. Yes, the same way you did when installing clockwork to the SD the first time.
There are some threads on other fourms (google is your friend) that have links to Update files that allow you to update while keeping clockwork recovery, and some that will remove clockwork recovery. If you can remove the SD card and boot into the Stock Nook OS, then don't worry about installing 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 like some of the forms say. Just place the .ZIP file of the hacked update (usually 1.3 or 1.4 I think) into the root folder of the SD card, then Install it on your NC just like installing CM7 onto the internal memory. Your nook should start working again. It restored mine to full functionality. I can now pay 3 Dollars for angry birds, but at least its not as terribly slow and laggy as it was with CM7.

I had the same issue last weekend, somehow my internal memory had become unrecognizable to anything, and the local Barnes and Noble store had a SD card that repartitioned the internal memory, and I was back in business. And as an added bonus I now have the 4 GB app/BN partition and the 1 GB mostly useless partition.

The instructions I see when googling around where I see that image mentioned are instructions for installing onto the Nook Color internal memory.
In the simplest case, making an n2a card is much less complicated than that ~ all you need is on the PC, write the size agnostic image, then drop in the CM7 build you want to use, then put the card in the Nook and it creates itself. There are upsides and downsides to different n2a methods, but that one seems to be the easiest ~ I've done it successfully several times, and I'm certainly nothing like an expert when it comes to these Android systems.
A recovery card image will make a bootable recovery card ... and while that might not have been what you needed to get what you want, its what you need to get the nook back to stock.

... to get a version of the 1.4.1 upgrade that your recovery card can install. You'll probably have to wipe all sorts of partitions, which means you'll have to sign in with the B&N store again and you'll get to download you B&N apps again, but that's pretty straightforward.

That post above has 1.4.1. There should be a signed 1.4.2 lying around somewhere, but if not, once its back to stock, you can update to 1.4.2 the normal way, download the B&N update file, drop it in the root of the Nook, make sure its at least 30% charged, and let it go to sleep, which will run the update file.
Nook Color 1.2.0 Brand spanking new. I have no intentions of purchasing anything from Barnes & Noble. I basically want to transform this little reader into a mini tablet, for games, reading, web browsing via wifi hotspot, email & movies. And maybe a few other do dads. I'm not a techie and not very familiar with much of the technical language. I don't know it this really matters, but I do not have wifi at home. It would only be used some place where is was offered for free. I have read pages and pages from all sorts of forums, but I am just not getting it. I think I would like to change the ROM so that it runs without the aid of anything on a secure digital card. I'd like to hang on to the card for future storage. I think, what I want can be done, but dont understand the full procedure of doing it.
And if I see something that says the file comes with a built in root, into the rom, does that mean the Nook Color doesn't need to be rooted ? Or, is the beginning of any and all procedures here begin with a rooted Nook Color ?
I hope someone can help, because all this information is beginning to run together and confusing me to no end. I'm looking for some sort of "beginning to end" step text. Starting with the NC right out of the box.
Read through the steps in the link in my sig. It's my attempt at making the process of getting full Andriod on the Nook Color as straightforward as possible. I gotta tell ya though, with no wifi you're gonna miss out on half the fun. For instance, when people have the "Sent from..." line they are using an app to post directly from their device.

Select the 7.2 RC3 version. And after you have it installed and running, you can change a setting so it does not need an SD. (Go to settings/cyanogenmod settings/application settings and select 'use internal storage'.)
I'm not sure whether you will want the google applications (gapps) or not. If you have no wifi, you may not need it. But without wifi and the Market that comes with the gapps, you will not have many apps to play with. If you want gapps, get them at goo.im/gapps. Select the newest gb version.

I too have been looking to find a book or two on Android, but as I found out this afternoon, there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of information available on Android at the library, at least in Springfield, MO. anyway.Going to have a look at Barnes and Noble store later this evening).
So, if I am reading this right, I do not hove to root the nook first, before applying these mods. Correct ?

He means to start up the original nook into the stock software that came with it. Then register with B&N before doing any flashing of other ROMs.

Download 1gb CWM 3.2.0.1 sdcard image from here. MD5 of .zip: 1319739d33642ed860e8044c3d55aa56. (I made this based on work in this thread. credit: to cmstlist and DizzyDen, and kevank for hosting). You really only need the 1gb image for this guide, no matter what the size of your card is. A smaller image will burn faster, and when you're done with the guide you can reformat the card anyway.
Extract the clockworkmod .img (if you can't open the file use 7zip)and burn to sdcard using win32diskimager (free). These apps will need to be "run as administrator." If you're not sure how to do this see step 3 here. ***Some internal laptop/desktop readers will not work to do this, you may need an external USB reader if you run into problems.***

If you don't, you did something wrong... please review the prerequisites and the steps and try again.
Remove the microSD card from your computer. ((OK))
Run the AutoNooter on your Nook Color using the uSD card you just burned.

Shut the device down completely. Make sure the USB cable is unplugged hold the power button down until prompted and choose power off.

The NOOKcolor will boot the microSD although the screen will remain off.

No. The problem you are having is that the Nook is very particular about how the card is formatted before it will boot from it. Your PC can see the card and read the files, but unless it is just right, the Nook will not boot from it. So you need to experiment with burning software (win32diskimager or winimage) and with different card readers (external usb or internal pc readers). If you use winimage, write to the disk with the menu choice 'Restore Virtual Disk Image to physical drive' instead of 'write disk'. I know it is a pain, but this is what you must do if it is not booting. Experiment.
You can also try the one I have attached to my tips thread in my signature. I have an updated CWM (5.5.0.4) on my version. (Under item A9).

Okay, I did it. I think. Made a bootable sd card and copied cm7 and gapps to the sd card. A lot of activity on the screen. The linux pinguin resting above a lot of blue data. It finally stopped and powered down. Now, it will not power up. Not with the SD card. Without the sd card, it does. Have I performed the procedure correctly ?

Sounds like you did it right for an installation to SD. But I thought you were trying to install to internal memory. That's what your last post was all about.
When you say it does not power up with the SD in, do you mean it starts to power up, but stops at a blank screen, or it just does not do anything?
Also take the card out and put it in your PC and look to see if the CM7 and gapps zips are gone. If they are gone that means they installed. If they are still there, it means the install failed.
MLO uRecImg uRecRam u-boot uImage uRamdisk are what is left on the sd card.
Sounds like you did it right for an installation to SD. But I thought you were trying to install to internal memory. That's what your last post was all about.

No, once it powered down, it never came back on. And I couldn't power it on. Not with the sd card in. Only after I took the card out, would the NC power up.

How are you trying to power it up? You should just hold the power button for a few seconds until a tiny flash happens and let go. If you hold it too long, it turns itself off.
I tried pressing the power button until i saw anything on the screen. .
Press and release. Press and hold a few seconds and release. Press and hold a long while. Still nothing. Just a black screen.

Press and hold power for no more than 3 to 5 seconds and release. If you hold it 10 seconds it powers back off

What kind of partition software do I use to restore my SD cards that lost volume after my attempt to nooter my Nook?
I am sorry to post this but it seems like there is very few information available for someone who wants to have a rooted Nook but is not a complete expert on the subject. I cannot post on the developer forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351 and it seems like developers are a little isolated from the users of their work.
What do I write to my Nook? Do I need to take out an internal memory that contains the default Nook software on it?
May I get something user-friendly for a common combination of Windows 7 x64 and a Nook Simple Touch?
Is there a any step-by-step solution that is up to date that I can apply to do this?

After reboot it try to load and showing progress dots. And on the third dot screen would flash and do this in a loop
I tried factory reset by holding down buttons and after I reset to factory.same loop flashing.
The scripts are included in NookManager. What the author means is that he doesn't just blindly replace original Nook files with his own, he modifies them programmatically so that even if NookManager is used on a version of the Nook firmware that it wasn't designed for, there's a good chance it'll work (though this is no reason to go without a backup first!)
I'd be surprised if all the rooting approaches didn't use Linux under the cover, as a) it's free to use and distribute b) it's commonly understood by devs and many users and c) Android itself uses a modified Linux kernel and UNIX-like user environment.
As for getting your SD card space back afterwards, Windows makes this harder than it needs to be for no discernible reason. Essentially, you need to delete the partitions, delete the second and resize the first, or wipe the entire card and repartition. I don't tend to use Windows for that sort of thing, so I can't give clear advice. But googling phrases like "repartition memory card" seems to throw up useful-looking stuff. It all seems to vary from Windows version to Windows version, though. And the .inf file that is associated with each particular brand of memory card and memory stick.
Just a little tip for getting the SD card back to normal (Windows) is to use the Raspbmc installer. Once you have downloaded it just open it and click on the "Restore device for formatting" button and that will sort it out.

I have done some programming in my time, but Linux is not something I want to deal with. There is no way I can edit a program that is already compiled.
What are the steps that I need to follow to get NookManager to work?
Folks, if you are trying to teach the masses for free, how to hack their Nooks then please do it so masses would understand, not a small number of people who are obsessed with Linux.

The NookManager instructions aren't as apparent as one might like but they are there at the bottom of the first post on the NookManager thread referenced above:
The download must be unzipped and the NookManager.img file must be written to an empty SD card. On windows, you can use disk imager. Linux and mac users can use dd.
To run, shut down your nook, install the SD card and power on. You should see the NookManager boot screen followed within 15 seconds by the welcome screen.

straygecko pointed out the installation instructions from the original post above. You can prepare your NookManager memory card from Windows (or Mac or Linux). So no Linux required there either.

Its one of the NookManager menus. Its really all very simple so I suggest you make your NookManager SD card, boot it up and look through the menus before asking more questions.

Alright, finally got a chance to do follow instructions, Thanks so much
I'll have to admit i panicked with what stuff Tarakan5 was posting but it is really that simple.
Download any free partition software for XP and delete partition on SD card to leave just one partition,. reformat with SDFormater
Extract image file to PC, and use Win32DiskImager as before.
Voala, it boots to NookManager with a nice menu,
Select option for factory reset.
Nook back ALIVE.
Get latest firmware from B&N
Upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.2.1
Stick SD card again to boot into Nookmanager again
Select backup (Wait 20 mins)
Boot again and select Root
And I think I'm rooted now.

I finally figured it out. I installed Nook Manager and it worked.
Is there any way I can browse internet with my Nook on any basic level? I want to be able to see an online dictionary.
Is it possible to disable automatic updates on the Nook? I really don't want to hear from the Barns and Noble capitalists ever again. I have my own books on it and that stupid update that cannot install (for known reasons) interrupts my reading.

FWIW, here the process I used to install CM11 internally (on emmc*) on my HD+:
Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on SD card a Primary FAT32 partition, and set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows.
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip and extract the .img file from verygreen’s emmc-cwm-early3.1.img.gz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)
Use the archive file manager to extract the files from the .img file and copy them to the SD card: first MLO, then next u-boot.bin, uImage, kernel, ramdisk.cwm.
Copy to the SD card:
verygreen’s flashable CWM recovery zip file cwm-recovery-ovation-6.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49192422&postcount=1)

Put the SD card into the HD+, and boot from its power-off state.
[Optional step but highly recommended] Select Backup to backup your HD+ current ROM config (/boot, /recovery, /system, and /data).
Select Wipe data & factory reset.
Select install zip from SD card and install flashable CWM recovery zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install CM11 zip file.
Select install zip from SD card and install Gapps zip file.
Remove SD card and select reboot.
Once the HD+ boots up, set up the wifi connectivity and your google account info.
If the Nook fails to boot off SD -- the two most common symptoms of failed SD boot and their likely causes are:
The HD+ boots straight to stock -- most likely the boot partition's type and/or flag are not correctly set, or the HD+ cannot find the MLO in the boot partition (make sure that MLO is the very first file to be copied to the freshly made /boot partition).
If the HD+ consistently boots straight to stock in spite of a valid /boot partition and boot files, it's possible that the tablet is one of those HD+ units that have difficulty booting of SD cards, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688 for more info and potential remedies.
The HD+ screen stays dark for seemingly a long time then eventually boots to stock -- most likely the MLO or u-boot.bin are corrupted. When in doubt, compare the size of the two copies of the files in bytes.

First off I really appreciate the time you take to answer my questions.
I still need some guidance however.
Again I have "Android 2.2" The last stock upgrade they updated.
So with that being said. What files should I download, and what order.
Everyone is giving me different links and i am not sure what to do.
This is my first time every doing something like this on a nook or tablet.
So please be patient with me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Should I download the cyanogenmod software first to my nook folder on my computer desktop, and then what other files do I need?
Once I download them I plan to transfer them over to a card for my usb slot that is on the bottom of my nook I am assuming, correct?
Once I have the software I need, Then I need to know what order should I install what first.
When I am doing this software installs. Do I need to worry about what is on there now.
This is nothing I need to save so I am not afraid of loosing what ever is on the nook at the moment.
All of this stuff can be let go or deleted or refresh install. Don't care.
I just want to get my table to work like a computer basically. So, I can watch the videos that i want to watch on my tablet, and still
be able to surf the net and read internet websites, you tube .com and other websites I like of course.
By doing this process this will still allow me to do this I am assuming. Again, I have never mode so I am not sure what this
cyanogenmod is or what it can do to help. I am game for trying to do it if it gets me what I want it to do.

First of all, you need to realize that installing any kind of aftermarket ROM on your android device will void your warranty with no manufacturer support.
Second, installing ROMs is inherently risky, since there is always the possibility of bricking your device.
Thirdly, any kind of ROMs that you see in the Android Development section are not completely stable; they are usable but there will be bugs & glitches. So all ROMs come with a caveat: use at your own risk!
That being said, here's how it works:
You will need three files; (a) SD Card Image (b) Recovery Image (c) ROM that you want to install.
For this purpose I am using CM11 as the example, the thread is here.
[1] Every Android device has a manufacturer installed recovery program; to install a custom ROM you need to have a custom recovery. This custom recovery is what allows you to make changes to your Android device.
[2] The Nook HD+ has the advantage of being able to boot from its SD card slot (kinda like a computer booting from a CD/DVD drive).
[3] Download the image files and create a bootable SD card. Copy the Recovery Image and the ROM to this SD card. You will need WinImage to create this card in a Windows computer.
[4] Insert this card into the HD+ and reboot your device. Here's the kicker, the HD+ may not boot from the SD card and may simply go to normal boot. If that happens you will have to keep repeating it. Check older threads about this issue.
[5] Once it boots from the SD Card, follow the instructions listed in the first post of that thread.
Brief summary (this is true for most devices): Create a bootable SD card, use this card to boot the device, install Custom recovery into the device, then install the ROM. Once you have a custom recovery installed, you won't ever have to use the bootable card again unless you run into some issues.

FWIW, I am running CM11 (M11 snapshot build: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=ovation&type=snapshot) on my HD+, and Flash works reasonably well on the Chrome browser.
New Issue with SD Card 8gb, Centon
Hello,
I tried to follow the instructions on deleting partition on SD card. I also did get it wipe. But, the new issue is I am not able to go any further in the process.
I tried to read the card in my computer and now the card is not being recognized by windows on "my computer" It is H Drive.
IT was now its not. I deleted partition then was going to try to create the new partition. That was not highlighted on the partition magic software.

Now my SD card is not being recognize by windows 7 ultimate.
I also tried to do the right click trick on my computer then computer management. Then did click storage and then drive then so on.
However when I did that, only that screen recognizes my sd card before and after. But no other screens like my computer screen.
What do I do next with this card to continue. I was trying to follow that tutorial above then go to the windows disc 32 part.
Then drag the software over to start installing it on my nook. But, obviously I never got that far. Can you help me get the SD card to work again and tell me what I did wrong and what to do next so I can move forward to add CW & whatever android software will work well with flash. So I can use the other sites I mentioned in my other post.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am stuck and not sure what to do next.

Weird.
I just put the sd card in a usb card dongle that inserts the sd card into usb thumb drive and all of the sudden I see the drive on this computer now.
What should I do now?
Do I still have to go and do the windows disc 32 imager part.
Then drag and drop the software I need and drop in the card to my nook then install.
Or just drag software that I need like CM and Android and move forward with that.
Which should I do first. If it is the later part, which CM and Android should I use for the Nook color HD +?????

I've followed all of the instructions and downloaded recovery, CM12 (cm-12.1-20160220-NIGHTLY-m7.zip), and gapps for 6.1. The system boots and I an navigate; however, Google play is not loading, when using the browser the content area becomes untouchable (touch screen in areas of the body of the page doesn't work), and there is not choice to set up a google account.
Any advice would be appreciated!

What tablet are you having this issue with?
AFAIK currently there is no CM12 nightly build yet for the Nook HD+ ("ovation") or HD ("hummingbird"). Make sure you pick the CM build specific for your device (e.g., cm-11-20160208-NIGHTLY-ovation.zip for the Nook HD+); using a ROM build for a different device can brick your tablet.

Thanks for your quick reply. This must be the problem. I originally installed the CM11 and Google Play did not work so I went out and found another 'walk through' via the link given to me last time and thought CM12 was the right choice.
I'll go back and reformat after getting the right gapps for CM11.

Thanks, so what I did go back and reformat the sd card and start over with the early, cm recovery ovation, cm11, gapps 4.4; however, apparently I didn't unzip and copy the early correctly because after I rebooted the hd+ after going through the wipe/install process, I got an error that the setup wizard could not start. I powered off, wiped the sd card and began again following directions very carefully making sure the MLO was copied first.
Now, it seems I have somehow bricked the device because it will not power on and has only a green light when plugged in, instead of the normal amber. Any ideas of how to get it to turn on and boot to the SD again?

Okay, as I stated in my edit, I got it to boot, but I'm still getting the popup "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has sopped. Any ideas?

Did you do a "wipe /data & factory reset" before you flash/install the zip files of CM11 ROM and GApps?
Did the installation of the 2 zip files succeed without error messages?
I got it working after I got it to bypass the error by dragging down the menu and connecting to wifi. Once I did that I was able to set up the Google account and everything was fine thereafter. There is a bit of flickering now and then, but everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks so much for your time and help!!!
Recover Data?

I've jut reinstalled cm11 onto my nook HD+ & realise I failed to copy a text file over before I formatted the HDD. Is it possible to recover a deleted file off the nook HDD via a PC? I've tried changing the developer option settings - Android debugging on, ADB Over Network on & connecting via USB both MTP & UMS (I think that's what they were) but when I run any of my Data Recovery programs in win7, the drive isn't recognised as an option to recover from.
Any help would be appreciated,
