[Q]run games at 720p on fhd devices - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed some lag on my galaxy s4 during games, I think it would be much smoother if we can make the games run at 720p instead of native 1080p resolution.
is there any way to do that?

Lag? What games are u playing? My games run buttery smooth and I'm not rooted.

[Q] How to play 1080p HD videos

Hi,
Did anyone here managed to play HD videos of 1080p or 720p format? I only managed to play 360p on my phone.
Not possible..Im mean they will play in Rockplayer 1.5.5 ARm6...but will lag sufficiently and not allow you to enjoy movie smoothly...
I think about 620 p should be fine in Rockplayer..or yxplayer...not above that..you will have to resize them...
Even 720p is quite laggy with rock player. Processor is just not fast enough
Why would you want to when the screen doesn't have the resolution to show any difference?

@bullchicken: it's just that my friends had gave me lots of 1080p HD MVs but I couldn't played it. He is able to play all HD videos in his Samsung Galaxy though. Maybe you're right due to legend processor limitation but i'm wondering if there is any customized/tweaked ROM which able to support it.

video, gaming and multitouch performance?

how is video performance? what formats and resolution does it support? does it play 1080p smoothly e.g?
and how is gaming performance on it? are heavy games like asphalt 6 or shadowgun smooth on it? is it on par with other tegra 2 tablets?
finally how is multitouch performance? how many touches does it support? no particular issues to report?
Games are smooth as buttter. yea I spelled it with three t's because its that smooth.
Video playback is not that great to me, but it can play pretty well.
Multitouch only registers 4 fingers as far as I can tell.
thx for the reply... the thrive suffers from the lack of codec support by tegra 2 right? read the most highest compression that the tegra 2 can handle is only main profile 1080p... there are no video player that can play 1080p high profile smoothly using software decode on thrive? like mx player?

Mobo players new update and codex seem to work very well. The thrives. 0011 update seems to have made significant changes to video playback as well, and just use sales rom version not ota if you want to root.
Sent from my Thrive, rooted and looking for more.

Note 3- Some games are laggy. Can I do same as pc and change the resolution of games?

So I have really nice internet speed, around 50mbs download and 50 mbs upload - tested with speedtest app - and when I play I get laggy sometimes.
On my previous phone I had an octa-core with 1gb ram but the display was 720p and it was moving almost the same as note 3.
Is it possible to change my ingame resolution from 1080p to 720p ?

Game experience not so good

Hello guys!
I'm trying to find out what to do to have a lag free gaming experience.
At least for CSR Racing 2. It is lagging so hard sometimes, even if it is on 720p, 1080p, 2K.
Any tips or tricks?
Get Game tuner from Google play or galaxy apps.

And lower the resolution? or what?
Sometimes it is running @60fps (15% of the time), but most of the time it sucks, lagging, lag spikes, 30fps, I don't get it why. Cause the game can run @60fps without problems. I still didn't find any solutions...

Resolution capped to 1080p and 720p in games

So it's been like this for pretty much forever on past Samsung phones: most games were capped to 1080p whereas some like clash Royale were capped to 720p. You could back in the Android 8 days use game tuner to raise the resolution to the godly 1440p, but I didn't do it much because it lagged some games on my s8+. Fast forward 2 years later and on my s10+ it was the same until I got the Android 10 update which finally allowed me to play my games in 1440p. Then I rooted my phone and installed ambasadii rom (idk if the rom matters) and I now have my game's resolution lowered again. Force uninstalling Game optimizing service would get by this restriction but it removes some important features integrated in the whole game launcher game booster system. So my question is, has any of you guys had this problem and fixed it, what could I do I pretty much tried everything up to this point.
