[Curious] Did you know this? - Galaxy S III General

Samsung's own user interface was changed by the time. If you have a Touchwiz UX phone running Jelly Bean, you can find something, a beta screenshot of how was the Touchwiz UX UI when was in beta stage:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Which is different from this one:
For me, the beta version was much better than the final one. You can find it at SecMms.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi. Maybe there's some other screenshots hidden in other Samsung Apps.
The screenshot maybe was took from an S3 Prototype by the resolution (1280x720) [1230x720 without the Statusbar] and because the leaked prototype has a pretty much similar ui:
So, what do you think? Who its better for you?

They're both awful compared to AOSP, but the beta is LESS awful

The beta one looks cool.

I can't understand people who think AOSP actually looks good. It looks like some nerdy high school kids with no sense of style made it. Blue status icons, are you kidding me? I can understand users preferring the advantages AOSP offers, but design isn't one of them. Both TW and Sense are superior in terms of design by a mile.
BTW, also on the list of the worst of the worst has to be the Android name and also the Droid series by Motorola. Both are horrible and are targeted to geeks still playing with their Transformers.

It's subjective. I disagree with everything you say. Touchwiz and sense are too "coloured". As a design buff, I much prefer AOSP. I prefer the regimented 1 colour background, 1 colour Icon. Anything else looks messy to me. Personally since I love pure black and blue is my favourite colour, AOSP looks gorgeous too me (once you get rid of the holo crap). Better than those Touchwiz and sense UI's that I used to draw myself with crayons back in the early 80's.
But design is subjective and you have to realise that. You will never understand why someone feels the complete opposite as you about something because you are not them.
Even back when I ran touchwiz roms, they HAD to be themed AOSP. I don't think there is anything geeky about slick design and uniformed colours.
That said, i run a similar design on Linux, because I do not like multicoloured icon sets.

The beta looks far better than the shameful end result. AOSP looks nice, but Sense beats all.

I much prefer 4.x AOSP to 2.3 AOSP. The blue is a much better colour scheme than the green/black that was on gingerbread.
In regards to AOSP generally, I prefer the look to TW. It might lack functionality (which is why Cyanogenmod and other aosp alternatives exist) compared to TW and later editions of Sense, but I do prefer the interface

Anywho, the beta do look better imo, than the final product.
I do agree with RootSU though, I also find TW to be too cartoonish and colorful, and really prefer the more simplistic colorscheme of AOSP - the dark holo theme that is. The light version doesn't fit my taste either

If you take into consideration that it was advertised as an sizeable upgrade of the UI. Which is not.

It wasn't advertised as such. That was way back when gingerbread was still 3.0.
Obviously that changed and so did most of the UI changes.

One-touch word selection and copy/paste
When entering text or viewing a web page, the user can quickly select a word by press-hold, then copy to the clipboard and paste. Pressing on a word enters a free-selection mode — the user can adjust the selection area as needed by dragging a set of bounding arrows to new positions, then copy the bounded area by pressing anywhere in the selection area. For text entry, the user can slide-press to enter a cursor mode, then reposition the cursor easily and accurately by dragging the cursor arrow. With both the selection and cursor modes, no use of a trackball is needed.

Well, there are tons of different sites that state the same. They all come from statements made by Google, granted a while back. However once they changed it to 2.3 instead of 3.0 which was like a month ago through a tweet of all things, they never changed their stance on the UI issue. So yes, it was advertised as such, and they rode that horse, among other things, until pretty much up to the video that was released for their voice app less than week ago.

Edit: Having looked at the first pictures in the link posted by OP, I can't imagine how you think those are ui improvements. It's not like they were gonna mimic sense ui or miui lol.
The user interface is refined in many ways across the system, making it easier to learn, faster to use, and more power-efficient. A simplified visual theme of colors against black brings vividness and contrast to the notification bar, menus, and other parts of the UI. Changes in menus and settings make it easier for the user to navigate and control the features of the system and device.

What am I supposed to use then? A amateur made theme? I think it's okay to expect a little (a lot?) more from the creator (who is loaded with talent) of the OS itself especially since Froyo looked way better. Anyway, this type of discussion doesn't really belong in this forum so I'll stop here.

I like it. It's still pretty basic, but the white status bar I'm glad to see go. I usually have it set to black now in CM 6.1 anyway, but it's nice that it's the standard. From previous links it looks like the pop up windows are slightly tweaked as well. It's not a huge departure form the previous versions, but it's significant. Not sure about the green icons though.

To those saying that this isn't "the big UI overhaul" we've been hearing about, I don't know but it seems like Google thinks it is. As part of the Nexus S youtube introduction they highlight the "refreshed UI" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SBMrauRSX0) on a dedicated video. I'm pretty sure that this is it. Disappointing really.
I don't even care about a whole new user experience (sure some maybe some new things which I guess 2.3 does kind of brings) but realistically I just wanted it to be a visual improvement from Froyo. What I see is just a bunch of sub par design choices that destroys the original identity of Android (white, matte, simplistic design with orange highlights). 2.3 brings a lot of visual inconsistency, loud/ugly/clashing neon color combinations, black void, and a whole lot of ugliness in terms of graphic design.
Man, I just can't get over how bad the design/graphics/visuals are in 2.3.

WoWzeerS! Blue seems to be the most popular colour in modding. (Android have noticed). Good luck with that.
I like it. The ROM needs a lot of work still, but it's still very good as it is. I really need the camera to work for me to switch to it permanently, but I've found it fast, responsive and plenty of cool features.
I'm waiting with ICS until HTC has released their Sense for it.
@acidspider
Maybe with Sense there will be less blue in there
Just a few days ago I flashed ICS and man, I'm never going back to cm7. I don't even care camera doesn't work at the moment since to me it feels like finally it's taking advantage of the power. CM7 after a month just because laggy and so slow.
Using it with Launcher 360, it's fast, fluid and I'm lovin it
I wasn't too impressed to begin with, but when I delved into the new features I started to get more and more impressed. I love ICS.
The one thing I do find poor is some of the system icons, the browser one in particular is a pretty awful design imo.

Ew.
This is how it should be done:
To me, ICS is much better than CM7 or any other ROM for that matter. Yea, there are a few little kinks that I would like to see fixed (Like the easier way to delete a contact), but we all have to remember that ICS was released in October. Thats not a long time for a ROM to become "Perfect" in the consumer's eyes.
I think ICS will become a VERY stable ROM, not just on the Desire HD/Inspire 4G, but every other phone that has the opportunity to taste it.
@OriginalPoster Honeycomb was designed for Tablets, and Tablets only (Although I'm sure you knew that) Tablets are designed faster and with more capabilities than most smartphones, so Honeycomb is probably more fluid in UI and design.
ICS+sense 3.5 is very stylish, ICS AOSP feels empty and minimalistic, but yes I'm not so fond of the tron theme feels a bit gimmicky
despite what everyone says sense will always save you a lot of effort and apps and unify the way everything looks, it was starting to feel outdated but I think sense 3.5 refreshed things again, also they to have improved their coding efforts considerably sense 3.5 is lighting fast and stable
anyone tried playing gta 3 on ICS? i'm getting lags on no matter which rom i try without OC.
I love blue. Blue is my favourite color. Although, I somewhat like MIUI better than ICS. Even CyanogenMod... Damn, there's something about CyanogenMod that makes me like it, even though it's stock GB. Every time I flash CyanogenMod, I remember there were better ROMs (like MIUI), and I flash back, lol.
ICS... I tried it on my old Desire (AMOLED) and on the Desire HD (LCD) as well. Damn, it was looking FANTASTIC on the Desire. Now... not so much... it's not as bright and vivid
Anyway, I'll stick to MIUI for the moment. When ICS will be ready...
Have to disagree
ICS is beautiful. It is very consistent unlike Gingerbread, which is very patchy

[Q] Why do people like CM7 better than MIUI?

Minus the bugs in the MIUI rom right now (audio, landscape mirroring) why do people like CM7 better than MIUI? I have backups of both, but keep going back to MIUI because of the look & feel. It feels like one whole picture, rather than a bunch of different pieces of things brought together. To me, it's important that my apps have a singular look & feel.
What are other perspectives, why do you guys like CM7 more than MIUI? I'm just interested in what features people like most in their ROM, because I can't seem to shake sticking to MIUI, including the current bugs, rather than booting up some CM7.

Personally because I don't like the iOS style...
Fair enough
The look and feel of iOS (and the locked down nature) was why i left apple in the first place. I dont want my phone to resemble that. I've yet to even try MIUI, but sheerly on looks, i never will.
I personally don't like the look of MIUI, I'm not quite sure how to describe it, bubbly? I like CM7 mainly because I just like the stock(ish) android look. Perhaps others feel this way as well.
Miui is the most customizable rom out there. Cm7 is fast but its bare bones and effing ugly. Miui is popular because its reeeally good looking. It looks like apple, but you can make it look like anything you want. So much theme support its stupid .

I can't buy any argument based on "I don't like how it looks." You have far more control over the way your phone looks with MIUI than with CM7 or any other ROM. You can make it look just like CM7 if you want.
My phone is actually faster with MIUI than with CM7 and it's gorgeous. The current build for the Atrix is suffering from some audio problems but I still can't bring myself to flash anything else or even change the background because it's so perfect.
As a recovering flashaholic, that's saying a lot.

Hows battery life for you on alpha 4?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I've never noticed a huge battery difference from ROM to ROM, unless I flashed a seriously overclocked kernel with it. So, the battery life is pretty much the same as always, which was never fantastic, but can be extended with certain apps and practices.
Edit: Replied to the wrong thing.
But I don't like MIUI. I tried it on the Desire, I tried it on the Atrix. It just 'feels' wrong, I don't like how stuff is organised and where various toggles have been moved to. Odd, I know - especially since I quite like using iOS (I just loathe Apple and the fragility of the iPhone 4/4S design.)
I personally prefer MIUI over CM7 any day and I used to be a Cyanogen fanboy but then I gave MIUI a try and I couldn't believe how many useful features it had plus it runs very smooth smoother than cyanogen ever did.
I really like MIUI, but I just like stock ics better.
I freaking Love CM7, and CM9 for that matter. Cyanogenmod is just so blazing fast, and looks pretty no matter what you do to it. I dont HATE Miui, but I have some serious ADD, and everything about it kinda bugs me. If we're just talking looks, The amount of customizables is nice, but it never feels quite perfect for me. CM7 and 9 both look minimalistic and pretty to me, and Miui feels like im running across a 4 way highway when Im theming it. Its fast enough to compare to Cyanogenmod for me, but the feel of cm pushes it to the top. But you know, Anything is better than effing Blur.
I have had better experience with CM7 and battery life than MIUI. I personally stick with whatever rom gives me the best battery life.

[Request]Inverted stock .apk's

I am a very big fan of a "Holo Dark" theme to my android devices. There are a plethora of theming options for system and or user apps for aosp based roms. However the LGHome launcher is a pretty feature packed stock home launcher and utilizes all of the LG .apk's designed to be part of the stock UI. You lose this functionality with a 3rd party launcher with theming support or with a non-stock based custom Rom.
I have a collection of user apps to satisfy my desire for the "Holo Dark" look and feel, but would love to have stock LG system .apk's to match! These would include:
Messaging
Dialer and the small incoming call pop-up
Contacts
Email
Calender
Settings
***system UI theme inverted with white and Holo blue text/icons on a black or dark gradient background
I know this would be no small project, but I believe I cannot be the only user who prefers this type of look, and if the request isn't made.... well then there is nothing to gain.
Anybody can feel free to chime in here. Suggestions. Alternative .apk's or T-Mobile theme chooser options? Is it even possible or legal to modify the LG stock .apk's?
Most importantly, are there any active developers and/or themers able and willing to accomplish this?
Thanks for your consideration
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Theming the things you mentioned would be nice. The bold typeface on white is a a torn on the eye, it refuses to obey the system font
I know it's possible, in Rayglobe ROM there's been some theming of the dialer and contacts app. In my opinion not for the better, though!
I'm using Rayglobe currently, not the themed version. Then flashed a theme made for version 3.x but it only themes the quicksettings colors and status bar dropdown background. Better looking than stock for sure. However, doesn't touch any .apk's

@dukat0s
That was awfully rude.
Even if you didn't know who_mike_d (I can vouch for some nice work he did for the Rezound), he has the Recognized Themer tag. Why would he try posting up something that wasn't his and pretend it was?

That looks good! I'm glad it can be done I especially like the toggle switches, the stock ones are just ridiculous.
I'm working on my Energy ROM which is mostly inverted. I think it's tasteful and I take great pride in doing everything right and in good taste.. IMO
Don't mind the bottom buttons.. those will definitely stay white... lol
Both look really neat,I definitely prefer inverted and it would be great to have these made available on the g2,will keep an eye out and hopefully work will progress - many thanks for info and pics

That looks pretty good aswell! I personally prefer the ultra flat design language that dominates the most recent mobile OSes recently, over the gradiented real-world-object-esque buttons. Your toggle switches are nice, but they look a bit messy when some are activated and some are not, in my opinion. The blue text color was also a bit too deep in my opinion. The buttons look good, and overall it's way nicer than stock

I agree with you. I guess I'm just used to the real world type UI that HTC started doing years ago.
I don't like the cartoonish flat UI's of today. Too common and too simplistic for my taste
I agree the blue might be a bit too deep.. will light it up a bit. In the mean time.. here's a pic of the incall UI.. hehe

April 22 Update: New Revamped LG UI Update
just in a few days G3 is going to be released, UI has a total revamp. now our G2 becomes more exciting with this new UI
Flat UI icons, New Transparent notification bar...... im really Excited
This looks awesome!

Non rooted G2 will probably never get this new UI...
My G2 Tapatalking
I never understood why so many mfg's sick with white background and everything so bright. This would be a welcome change, dark with transparent.

New status bar looks AMAZING but i dont like the homescreen stock android look. The current optimus ui is good enough for me . But that transparent status bar though

Ugly.....just ugly.....but hey that is just my opinion.
There are people who are gonna love it. It is like the child of Sense and Vanilla UI
Looks like Samsung's new TouchWiz, iOS7 and WP8.1 had a threesome and new child was born.
But I won't mind this on my G2.
I like it.

Why are they making ios-like styles, they could just create another style. Is it that difficult?
I'm not saying that the general style isnt cool but why always copying?

You do realise that flat style icons and pastel colours for icons and wallpapers existed before ios7? This 'copying' ios7 complaining is getting a bit stupid now. It's simply a current trend, and in a few years we will all have different style icons etc as stock on our phones, and then they will change, and so on.

I completely understand that, but as well finger recognition was also used before by the motorola atrix but when iphone featured it lg and samsung included it to the flagships, i know that apple isnt really innovating but it annoys me that android brands usually put same features than apple does without creating an own image or features(excuse my english)

And the G3 isn't out in a few days either (unless LG are really planning a big surprise).
Would like to see pics of the dialer/contacts and settings, hope they are all dark themed too!
I know LG won't release an update for G2, hopefully XDA devs can port it.

It really bugs me how iOS is given credit for the 'flat' look when in fact all Apple did was copy Metro. Metro in WP7 as the first true flat UI and its still the best looking.

In theory though it is a debate that goes round and round and round with no answers. We like to accuse apple of copying our pull down notifications, and now windows phone is getting that too. Companies will use as much of other peoples ideas as they can, just in their own way and always will (then apple will sue them anyway . . . . I kid, I kid). Luckily we have the option of changing our icons at will on android, so if people don't like it they can change it easily.
Compared to the Current & New UI ....... with same widget & icons i will prefer the new UI :good:
New UI is not awesome or amazing but compared to G2 or G Pro this is much better (IMO)
I like the new icons ok but they could tone that bright blue down some...

Lots of orange & blue in notifications
looks like a theme to me
Looks a lot like the iOS 7. Really, they have a solid OS and a solid phone, why are they making fools of themselves by copying Apple yet again ?
