Help! My S4 keeps crashing after pausing MP3s. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my S4 for about a week now and only put music on it a couple of days ago (I had been waiting to get a micro SD card). It's a Fido SGH-I337M, 16 GB. I rooted it using Motochopper. There's a strange thing that keeps happening every time I pause an MP3. After pausing, when I try to unlock the phone from the lockscreen, it freezes up and crashes (happens every time). Sometimes it ends up rebooting.
Now, this only happens with MP3s. It does not happen with FLAC files. I've searched high and low on google for other instances of this and have found nothing. It seems like it's a software bug but I tried restoring to factory settings and it continued to freeze up. I tried unrooting it and had the same result. The crashes happen whether the MP3 is on the phone storage or on the SD card. It's not due to any of my downloaded apps, because after doing a factory reset I was able to recreate the MP3 crash before doing anything else to the phone.
Anyone know anything about this or can offer suggestions to try fix this? I'd like to try to resolve this before I take it in to get it exchanged.

HD2 w/ updated version of ROM freezing

I bought an HD2 last week that is already running the updated ROM (2.13.531.1) but the phone still freezes, turns off, then turns itself back on immediately. It does this several times a day. Is anyone else having this problem with the updated version? I love the phone, but it's getting really frustrating. I check the task manager frequently and close out of all programs that I'm not using. I don't really watch videos, listen to music or run multiple apps at once, and the phone goes through this freezing process during all different types of activities; there isn't any single app/activity that seems to trigger it. Also, I initially didn't realize that I had the updated version, so I waited a few days to install new apps (until I had time to update), thinking that I would have to re-install everything, and during that time the freezing did occur just as often, so I can't attribute it any app that I have installed. Once I realized that I already had the updated version, I installed a couple new apps.
Any advice on what could be causing this and what I might be able to do to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

have you tried a hard reset?

I had this problem with my HD2 also even when I had did plenty of hard resets and installed custom ROMS problem was the processor was bad so I got a replacement for my defective HD2 now the one i have now runs perfect does not freeze at all and the battery life is perfect im now running MAY 31 Energy ROM
I just did a hard reset. I am going to avoid installing any news apps for a few days to see how the phone does. I' ll post a reply in a few days to give an update. Thanks for the help.
same here.
I have been having this same problem since i have upgraded to the latest version from tmobile website. What is worse it that, i am also having problems with playing videos on youtube. The video would start to play and after few seconds it will freeze and makes a very loud and annoying sound, then shuts itself off and restart, sometimes freezing while restarting, so i had to take out the battery. Sometimes it would freeze right after it restarted. It's becoming so frustrating dealing with these everyday. 40 percent of my time using the phone is spent on restarting, taking the battery off and waiting.
someone please help. thanks!
Have you done a hard reset since installing the new ROM. It's recommended by the super intelligent people on this site. I am not there yet, but I did a few hard resets on my phone after upgrading to the new ROM and it works great.
i would either
1 go back to rom 2.10
or, more likely since its so new
2 go get a new one, see if its the same.
I received a text message from t-mobile indicating that a new update rom was available for install. After updating I noticed that the mobile phone would freeze for a split second and then instantly restart. After having the unit freeze several times throughout the day, I performed a hard restart and did not install any cabs. I noticed that it would freeze when I would go online.
Just yesterday I downgraded back to the original rom and no more problems.
After the hard reset last night, my phone froze several times in the next couple of hours. It even turned off, then back on three times when I wasn't even using it and the battery was full. I have only had the phone for five days, so decided that is wasn't worth the headache and I called T-Mobile to exchange it for a new one. Hopefully, I have better luck with the new one.
Well, I received the new one yesterday and it's doing the same thing. Not sure what to do at this point. I'm irritated that HTC and T-Mobile released this phone when it obviously wasn't ready.
HD2 Freezing issue: Try this
For everyone who's having tons of freezing issues with their HD2. I found something interesting. I got my HD 2 a couple of months ago in June. It ran for almost a month, no freezing but sadly I had to return that one because the output resolution was bad. Some kind of defect. The second one I got for a replacement didn't have much freezing issues but I did encounter a couple and then I installed BeeJive. That program freezes my HD2 sometimes. Then I discovered that my WI-FI wasn't working, no idea what happened. I tried everything thing I could but it would not work. So I did a hard reset.
After the hard reset, the HD2 freezes all the time and was soooo slooooooow. It was so bad that I could not work on it. Having experienced the HD2 before all the freezing issues, I know that it had to be something else causing the freezing. So I hard reset again and reinstalled my applications again and tested each to make sure it was working and not causing the frequent freezing and most importantly, the slooooowness.
So far so good. I still installed BeeJive because it's the best IM software I found out there that uses your data plan for IM. It still causes freezing but I know what functions will cause it so I try to avoid it. I also keep my list of installed applications down to reduce the chance that it's one of my infrequently used apps that's causing the freezing.
So if you're daring, hard reset your HD2, then install your most used applications first, test it, then installed the next frequently used application next, and so on and so on.
One more thing, I've discovered that the auto update for stocks, weather, and frequently direct pushed emails, as well as gmail/yahoo accounts will cause the HD2 to be slow. I still set my gmail to update every 10 minutes because it's my main account, but yahoo gets updated once an hour and outlook gets manually updated during work hours, since I'm at work, and gets direct push for the hours I'm awake at home. No need to push email when I'm asleep.
Another possibility for resolution - microSD card
I purchased a new microSD because I noticed that the one that came with the HD2 is a Class 2 device. I could not take videos for more than a minute and then it gets real choppy.
I bought a new Class 6 card. After getting the card, I tested it against the Class 2 card. Huge difference. It seems that SD card speed and HD2 performance are directly related. I tested the cards with the following applications: Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, BeeJive, Camera, Video Camera, and Email. On both cards, on certain programs, the card access goes down to below 1mbs. However, for the Class 6 card, it ramps up quickly. The class 2 card, being already slow, lingers. This in itself causes a huge lag and freezing. I discovered that on certain applications that froze before, it now doesn't freeze but it does take an extra 'second' to recover.
My biggest relief has been that BeeJive no longer freezes where it froze before on certain functions. I've been running for over a week now without any freezes. I'm not saying you should replace your SD card, yet. However, you can test it to see if the lag is causing the freezing.
A new 16gb card costs $75. Make sure you test it, if you decide to get one. I got 7mbs max access with mine and consistently got 6mbs, which is what it's suppose to be.

SD card failure CM7

Hey. i was wondering if anyone else was getting freezes and issues when listening to music from the sd card using the default android music app in CM7.
For the last couple of weeks my phone will play music for a little while just fine but then randomly the music app will freeze up, my sd card will stop working and so far the only way I have found to fix it is to restart the phone. sometimes the phone wont even restart properly, so i have to pull the battery to get it to work again.
I ordered a new sd card online today, so hopefully when it comes the problem will be fixed. But for now it is very annoying and i was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and can confirm for me that it is the sd card and not some other problem
thanks

I9301I Issues

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me out with this issue I've been having with my Galaxy S3 Neo.
Some time ago my phone started to randomly crash internal android services and processes. It kept working after reboots until up to a point. The things that didn't work properly were Music apps, phone and (so I figured) all apps that somehow are connected to audio. A factory reset did not fix my issue.
I brought my phone to a local repair shop and they fixed it with some sort of factory reset, which they told me was done over reinstall by PC.
It worked for a few months and I had no problems at all.
Now, since a few days, my phone starts acting up again.
I don't get the crash reports like I used to get, but it's 'dying' nonetheless.
It started with the Facebook app not working anymore, it kept 'looping' the 'setting up facebook'-message and crashing the locations process, so I deleted the app.
That helped for a bit.
Now:
- I can't call anymore, it hangs.
- I can't listen to music, it hangs.
Again, any sound/audio related apps make my phone crash or hang.
The Music app, I can start it up, press play and it just doesn't respond. It says it's playing, but the counter remains on 0:00.
The weird thing is, that when I hook my phone up to my Bluetooth car stereo, it plays music fine.
It seems that whenever the phone is trying to connect to the speaker, it has issues...
A factory reset through settings didn't fix it, and neither did a hard reset in recovery mode..
Help is required!!! Please!!!!
I tried CWM, wiping everything, put CM12 on it, but no luck. Could it be that the speaker(s) is (are) dead and Android can't work properly when that happens?

[Q] Recovering files from messed up SD card and other problems with GT-i9506.

Hi!
So around christmas time my phone stock Galaxy S4 GT-i9506 4.4.2 started getting weird.
I kept wondering why my sound profile kept changing to something else eventough I've set it ie. for vibrate.
One day I noticed what was going on.
Everytime I open "settings" no matter how, through the gear in the upper corner of the notification drop down screen or from the app drawer, whatever...
My phone changes the sound profile automatically to silent. Once I exit the "settings" area alltogether the sound profile automatically changes to sound again.
No matter what profile I had to begin with it changes to silent when entering the "settings" area and to sound when exiting the "settings" area.
This problem still exists.
If i mess around in the sound settings area, everytime I open a setting to change, the sound profile goes to sound
momentarily until I back out from the menu to somewhere else in the general settings area, then it instantly goes back to silent again.
I haven't installed any apps that mess with sound settings.
Problem number 2 :
My phone started to randomly get really hot during which the battery drained really fast. And sometimes the phone would freeze.
Shutting down and starting the phone always made the phone work as normal again.
Next phase was that the phone started to randomly get hot again as before but this time the phone went to a boot loop.
The phone kept restarting itself over and over again.
In fact my aunts Samsung phone (don't know the model) started doing the same thing recently. I told her to remove the SD card and the phone was back to normal, so I guess this is a common problem with Samsung phones.
Next phase was that on top of the boot loop the phone kept unmounting and mounting the SD card. A Kingston micro SDHC 16GB class 4 card that wasn't too full.
Shutting down by removing the battery and starting again made the phone stable for a while. While the phone was stable "Gallery" functioned normally as any way of browsing the files on the SD card.
I still figured that the SD card was the problem, I removed it and the phone was back to normal apart from the sound profile problem.
Now to the things I need help the most.
I really need the files from the SD card but the SD Card wont open anymore in any computer, card reader or phone I've tried.
How can I recover the files from the SD card? A file recovering program perhaps?
What program is the best for this? It doesn't have to be free.
Also I guess an factory reset would fix the sound profile issue and some other occasional problems, but I would like to keep my phone as it is .
Is there a way to backup the whole phone, and do a factory reset and then restore every app, setting, file etc. I MEAN EVERYTHING back as they were? I just wan't my phone as it is without these bugs.
You can factory reset your phone but you can't recover everything. This is the idea of reset to get a fresh phone...

Random reboots when/after listening to music

Hello,
I'm experiencing some weird problems on my Nexus 6P.
Everything was fine until like a month ago, when I tried switching to F2FS. I didn't notice any improvement and so I reverted to EXT4.
That is when the phone began randomly rebooting itself, often freezing while I was listening to music. (I have a huge music collection, like 15 to 18 GB, but I've never had this problem on any other phone)
At first I thought it was caused by maybe one of the music files being corrupted and forcing reboots, but I have the same music files on another, older phone and they work flawlessly.
Moreover the phone seems to be randomly rebooting after I listen to music, not always while I'm doing it, and even with streaming services.
What's worse is that it doesn't always reboot properly and most times gets stuck at the Google logo, then reboots again and so on. Bootloop.
I can always access recovery though, and re-flashing the rom (I'm on the latest PureNexus) seems to temporarily fix it.
Do you think I can fix this? If so, how? I'm afraid this may be a hardware issue :/
