[HOW-TO]Flash a custom splash screen - One (M7) General

With the arrival of S-OFF for the HTC One we also got the possibility to flash a custom splash screen. Many of us used this already on their previous devices and now it's possible for the HTC One too.
Preparing image for flashing:
First you need the image of your choice. Make sure you it has the size 1080x1920 !!!. It must have been already the correct size because the converter doesn't re-size it. The image can be in the format BMP, JPG or PNG.
Grab EZ Splash Screen Flasher and Image Converter and convert your image. Instructions how to convert it are in the original thread.
Take the custom.img in the place-image-here folder and rename it to splash1.nb0.
Download the attached splash.zip and replace the splash1.nb0 inside.
Have a look at the android-info.txt file and check if your CID is present inside. IF not than add it. I have already added a lot of CID's but if there are some missing I will update it from time to time.
Requirements for flashing:
S-OFF
Steps for flashing:
Boot your HTC One into bootloader and enter fastboot mode
adb reboot bootloader
Start RUU Flash mode
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Flash the custom splash screen
fastboot flash zip splash.zip
Make sure that there are no error messages when flashing
Reboot your device
fastboot reboot

If someone is interested this is the actual image in the splash.zip

THX for Tutorial, here my splashscreens.

Thanks for the tutorial, now i'm S-Off i can see me turning into a splash flashaholic!

thx for sharing..works fine here..cheers~

Hi chrisch1974,
I do not own this device myself, but Sneakyghost and I have been playing around a bit, and he confirms that this works for the One. It seemed appropriate to offer it up here in your thread..
For the One-S Ville, I have an online boot splash zip generator. You can upload a picture and it will generate a recovery flashable .zip file. I have now made a version for the One M7 that's identical, except it uses a different resolution and block device. (1080x1920 into P13 instead of 540x960 into P14) For people who don't have a windows box available, this might be an easier option.
http://jobiwan.net:81/bootsplash-one
I don't know whether S-Off is required or not. On the Ville you have to be either S-Off or on a lower hboot version. Again, the .zip files this generates are recovery flashable, not fastboot-RUU flashable, unlike yours.
Enjoy,
-Jobo
(PS: This is my original thread for the One-S Ville: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777223 The online generator is introduced in post#115.)

Hey Chrisch!
Nice thread really! I was a bit frustrated first when i found it because i spent all afternoon working out where splash is, how to convert it etc. Now you have been faster!
Well, at least Touch of Jobo can offer his form for recovery flashable zips as a supplement.
I will link your thread to my hboot modification thread so people who edit out the red warning have easy access to custom splash screens (in my eyes these two always go together somehow )
Well done mate! Thanks a lot!

I've tested it myself and it creates valid .zip files. I can not flash them because I don't have a One. Is the z.ip file you get zero bytes? Can you (zip up and) post the picture you tried to upload?
Edit to add: can 2 or 3 others please report? So as to see whether this is a special case, or it just doesn't work at all..
Edit2: I used the metallica picture you posted, and it generated a 905K .zip file. (attached)

It doesn't say FAILED custom id check (CID) but model id check (MID)
I have that on my thread for the hboots as well. I am still trying to find out if there are ONE devices with a different Model ID.
[EDIT]
OK thanks to Mike1986 Website i found the answer already.
There are three MID's
PN0710000
PN0711000
and a third one Mike didn't specify.
You can try to change the MID in your android-info.txt and see if that helps Maybe it flashes then!

Phone would not get past Rootbox bootanimation after successful flashing (the splash showed up fine). fastboot erase cache seems to have fixed it though. Thanks for the how-to!

Thanks, it worked great! I recreated the Nexus splash screen and posted it below if anyone wants it.

just a theoretical scenario, if I were to flash the custom splash screen and then revert to S-ON, would the splash screen stay? and would my phone become a brick?

Only a RUU or maybe an OTA can reset your splash back to stock, so yes, it will stay. The splash image is not signed. Having a modified splash on S-On will not brick you. (Having a modified hboot on S-On will brick you tho!)

No, I didn't. I saw the thread about removing it, but I don't know if it will overwrite the splash I already flashed. It doesn't seem to show up every boot, though, so it's not that bad in my opinion.

Seriously dnt understand that tutorial, All i have done is boot phone to flash boot mode and waited PC to detect it, I dnt know what exactly should i do after connecting it
First open CMD.exe (command/ black box)

then connect your phone and copy/paste the codes from that post.

Hence i download this image from 4shared, Not sure this is the correct rom or not.
Help me after this
This happened because you flashed bravo recovery and not the 32a recovery.
follow the link provided by danger_tweaker post no. 4
everything is properly explained in and download your recovery "carz-clockworkmod-3.0.2.8-recovery.zip" only or if you are able to turn on device then download ROM Manager and flash recovery because htc magic are legacy(old, outdated) devices so file are removed from most of the sites.
BTW have you ever flashed the recovery???
I had searched for your recovery but all links are expired. View attachment 1161540 See if this recovery works for you. I had downloaded it long back and currently I don't have any previous version of carz mod , neither I remember its source link . It is the same clockwork mod-carz-recovery only version is different v4.0.1.4 see if it flashes through fastboot :fingers-crossed:.

That's not working because your command is wrong, you forgot one "recovery". He's telling you that there is no partition named "recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-bravo.img" because the correct name is "recovery". The correct command would be
Code:
fastboot flash [COLOR="Red"]recovery[/COLOR] recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-bravo.img
But i think you'll also get "FAILED (remote: not allow)".
I think you need to tell us what's written in your fastboot screen on the phone. Also a
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
would be helpful.
C:\Android>fastboot flash recovery clockwork-3.0.2.8.img

As u said i got the same error
I worked on gold card mode and try updating using "sappimg.zip"
I get "Incorrect CID" as error even after me making an exact gold card asper the tutorial @ http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Create_a_Goldcard
Help me ASAP
You get this error "FAILED (remote: not allow)" because of your SPL-version - it seems to be a perfect one, you can't flash your phone with commandline.
Show us what's written in your fastboot-menu (everything, radio, hboot and so on, everything you can see).
Also give us the output of
Code:
fastboot getvar cid
please.
When did you get this error "Incorrect CID"?
Do you have some other Android-phone? Then create your Goldcard with GoldCardTool (for example as explained here).
Which sappimg.zip did you try? Don't just take one without knowing if you can take it!
1. Output for command
C:\Android>fastboot getvar cid
cid: HTC__038♦
finished. total time: 0.001s
2. Attached the screen shot of HBoot & Fastboot mode
3. I have an S2 i managed to fetch the CID using SimpleGoldCard_v1.zip from http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...d6/4ff07379/5/2/8/8/9/6/SimpleGoldCard_v1.zip
4. I slected mmc1 in the tool to detect my MMC CID to be changed to gold card
5. I used ROM v2.16.707.3 (NON-Perfected stock SPL v1.33.0009 from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
I believe i have provide u all information i have got. Please provide me support ASAP :highfive:

As i said, because of the SPL-version you can't flash with commandline. You have to use sappimg.zip or nbh. To flash those, the rom needs to have a higher version than the installed one.
Your main-version is 3.05.720.3, as you see here a higher version would be "3.05.861.2 Hutchinson Australia". To flash this you need the Goldcard - it lets you install roms of different providers.
Download that rom, copy it to your SD-card (Goldcard) and rename it to SAPPIMG.zip and try to flash it. If it still tells you "CID incorrect" your Goldcard isn't created correct or the SD-card doesn't work as Goldcard.
If you finished this we're going on. Just short:
When you're done your phone should boot the normal way. Now you need to get the correct rom for your CID on it - 39) 3.05.720.3 1.76.0009H 6.35.08.29 N HTC__038 is for your phone, it's that one 3.05.720.3 India.
You can't flash this as sappimg.zip because the version of this rom is lower than the installed one. You need to install a custom-recovery on your phone to be able to install any rom-version - to install this you need to root your phone (there are some tutorials on XDA). With the custom-recovery you're going to install the stock-rom and you're done. If you like to you can also install custom-roms on your phone - you just need to install a custom-recovery again to install that.
I'm not an expert - i just know what i read and experienced when i debricked my HTC magic. If somebody thinks i'm wrong with my suggestions, just tell!

This thread is a placeholder for all possible firmwares we can get from official HTC OTA's.
Your CID number must be exactly the same. If it's written "HTC__001" it means you can't flash it, if your CID is "02__001". The whole text must match!
How To: Find the proper firmware variant for the HTC device
How To: Flash firmware package on the HTC device
Please READ this small F.A.Q. before continuing!
What is firmware.zip?
Firmware.zip is a part of each OTA update from HTC. It contains important part of the firmware like radio, bootloader, recovery, kernel etc..
Why it's important to flash firmware.zip and when should I flash it?
It is recommended to have flashed latest firmware on your device for best modem performance and system stability. Sometimes it's necessary to have latest bootloader flashed because otherwise your device might not work well with new system update.
Does firmware.zip contains radio?
Yes, it does contain radio, and for S-ON devices the only method to update radio is to flash latest firmware.zip
Why it's important to flash it before flashing custom ROM?
Because firmware.zip contains boot.img (ramdisk and kernel) that will replace custom boot.img from any custom ROM you have. That's why you have to flash firmware.zip first, because otherwise boot.img will be overwritten with stock one.
If you already flashed firmware.zip after flashing custom ROM, just flash this particular custom ROM again.
Does firmware.zip contains recovery?
Yes, it does contain recovery image, that's why after flashing firmware.zip you will have to flash custom recovery again, to be able to flash custom ROM afterwards.
Can I flash this firmware.zip on any HTC One?
Not if your device is S-ON. To be able to flash it on S-ON device, your modelid (example: PN0710000) and cidnum (example: HTC__001) must match the firmware.zip version you are about to flash.
If my modelid or cidnum doesn't match, can I brick my device if I try to flash firmware.zip anyway?
As long as your device is S-ON flashing firmware.zip with non matching modelid or cidnum will result in error and nothing will be flashed, so there is no risk of brick.
Do I need to have locked, unlocked or relocked bootloader to be able to flash firmware.zip?
Your bootloader needs to be relocked.
If I can't flash newest firmware.zip because of wrong modeid (MID) or cidnum (CID) does it mean I can't use custom ROM based on the latest HTC update?
In most cases you should be able to run any custom ROM as long as hboot update is not mandatory.
What if there is no firmware.zip for my MID/CID?
Try to find latest OTA update for your original stock ROM and send it to me. I will post firmware.zip here.
How to flash?
(bootloader needs to be relocked)
If you are S-ON ---> Re-lock your bootloader (this will most probably wipe content of your device)
If you are S-OFF ---> no need to re-lock the bootloader.
Copy downloaded .zip to fastboot.exe location (e.g. c:/SDK/platform-tools/fastboot.exe)
Re-name .zip file to firmware.zip
Open command prompt
Boot your device in fastboot mode (vol down + power ===> fastboot)
Connect device to the PC
In command prompt cd to fastboot.exe location
Make sure you have correct modeid and cidnum (type: fastboot getvar all)
Type: fastboot oem lock (if your device is not relocked yet or in case it's S-ON)
Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU and wait for device to reboot
Type: fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and wait for process to complete
Sometimes flashing for the first time doesn't work, so flash firmware.zip again just to make sure.
Type: fastboot flash zip firmware.zip and wait for process to complete
Type: fastboot reboot
Unlock your bootloader and flash custom recovery if you are going to use custom ROM.

Did you get your phone from O2 Germany? As more as I read about CID and the other stuff, as more confused I am. Got my phone from O2 and have CID O2___001...have operators in one country also different CIDs? Which firmware you use?
Deleted. Wrong info
From what i have seen before you can have different cids but with the same main version number.
If i say this correctly the CID corresponds with regions, so basically you can have different cids yes.
Correct me if i am wrong please

This method isn't the quickest if you are already on a compatible version but if your not then this will get you sorted, i spent multiple hours getting this sorted.

Does this work if I converted to GPe earlier?
Just wanted to get one thing clear. If I have SuperCID, I don't need to change my CID to the one provided above, right?
Stupid question ahead: Will my data be whiped during the RUU flashing? Or will it just update it, with keeping everything in place. I just don't want to reinstall everything I am already S-Off and unlocked BL

It worked fine for me.

HBoot 3.19
I tried to follow your instructions and below was my result when i tried changing the MID to developer. I was on developer edition rom already, but i had the international MID. my phone is an AT&T variant. I changed MID's so x.xx.401.x stock rom would accept OTA's without a problem. i changed my MID back when i was on either 1.12 or 1.54 base, i dont remember. Now the OTA for 4.16 does not install. installing from android, it keeps saying download is corrupt. installing from recovery simply throws an unknown error. my guess is the MID being messed up. any information is greatly appreciated. in the meantime, im on 3.28 and the phone functions correctly for now at least.

[DISCONTINUED | GUIDE] HTC U11 How-To - Return to Full Stock ROM/Firmware

Hello folks,
as for me such guides were really helpful in the past, and there are alway poeple who are new to a device and modding it, I decided to do one on my own, to show you how to perform a reset of your HTC U11 to Full Stock ROM/Firmware.
In many points I tried carrying together all that has been written down prior to this guide in many others, by many others. Thus I - in some kind - just consolidate the fact, using my own words and a little bit different structure than others. Anyway I'll show you my steps again in this tutorial as I think it is of importance to many that they can read the hole to do in one thread. But I advise everyone.
Please note that I will not accept any responsibility for possible occurring bricks. I can only confirm that this tutorial has been used by me, for my specific unit and all went successful.
Look here for [Collection] HTCU U11 – RUU/Firmware/Recovery/OTA/Backups

Hi,
I'm new to android. I was advised to root my HTC U 11 but after doing so and exploring options I decided I'd rather just remove root and return to stock. However, I'm a noob and didn't do a backup before flashing the recovery and rooting. I found this thread and it seems to have what I need but I'm hesitant to take the next step as I don't want to brick my new phone. Can someone explain what I need to do to return to stock in as simple/dumbed down way as possible?
It's a single sim variant, carrier is Optus (Australia) and the original software version was 1.03.710.7
There's only this step by step guide. Couldn't be more precise at what to do. If you don't understand such a detailed guide I'm a little bit irritated at why you rooted in the first part, if you don't know what happens by doing so and how to revert back properly

Twrp-3.0.0.2-himar

Posting a new thread was my last resort, so here goes.
I'm looking for a TWRP recovery for a HTC One M9e PCE. It's obviously a rarer model so finding stuff for it is incredibly hard. While searching the forum I came to the conclusion that there once was a file named twrp-3.0.0.2-HIMAR.img hosted on androidfilehost. But all the links are dead.
Does anyone have a copy of that image lying around? I would greatly appreciate if someone would upload it again. If I'm not mistaken the author of that recovery was mars3712, if that helps.
EDIT: I'm aware that there's a repo on github also, though unfortunately it's on a 5.1 base. The device in question is 6.0 MM. Would it matter?
