NEW firmware (10.1.1.A.1.319 and 10.3.A.0.407) certified for the Xperia Z - Xperia Z General

Sony has certified two new firmware's at PTCRB !!!
The first one based on 4.1.2 (i think), it is the 10.1.1.A.1.319 at Jun 4, 2013.
The second one based on 4.2.2 or maybe 4.3 (i think), it is the 10.3.A.0.407 at Jun 4, 2013, too.
w*w*w.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=23321
Thats crazy, why became the C6606/6616 (the US T-Mobile Version) the newest firmware first. The funny you can buy this version of Xpereia Z only by T-Mobile US.
For two weeks i became the .253 and wait now of the .307, two weeks update is the new way of Sony update policy .

Done it on my first XZ, now if something goes wrong with this one theyll send it to repair and if i flash another rom even official sony im sure theyll use that as an excuse not to fix my phone.
After warranty expired then ill see, anyway really annoying to be stuck on old firmware.

Unlocking bootloaders has nothing to do with Flashtool. But yes, as long as you don't unlock your bootloader you can pretty much do whatever you want.

We're talking about flashing with flashtool, but how many people that own the phone never heard/went on XDA how many of them never heard of flashtool. All of those people rely on their operators to push updates.

Unless your phone from country "x " from provider "1" and you flashed to country "y" provider "n" so to be safe make a backup from your original blobs and take the time and learn how to create your "backup.ftf" ... At some point, could save your phone... Occasionally.

That's right. Before flashing anything to your phone, it's always a good idea to create a backup of the original firmware customization, so that you can easily restore your phone to factory state if required, especially if it's difficult to find an FTF file online with your customization.
Luckily, there is also a way to return to your original customization without FTF file, but it requires a rooted phone with a locked bootloader:
[GUIDE] Download ANY firmware customization with SUS and create an FTF with Flashtool

I'm very happy that Sony is taking software updates seriously for its flagship phone. The more updates, the better the phone can become.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Arc getting Android 2.3.4

There's still no confirmation as to when it will be headed to the soon-to-be-released Verizon Xperia Play, but Recombu is reporting that at least some iterations of the phone will be getting upgraded to Android 2.3.4 next week, at which point the Xperia Arc will also get bumped up to the same version. Assuming there's no surprises in the next week, that would seem to make them the first non-Nexus phones to get the update.

Yup. Looks like SE is keeping their promise.

As far as I know you will still be able to update with an unlocked bootloader and keep it unlocked. You will however most likely lose root.

DO NOT UPDATE! all signs point to the fact that you will brick your phone if you update with an unlocked bootloader.
When costum roms appear it probably won;t take long for them to implement 2.3.4. I advice to wait for that if your bootlaoder is unlocked.
Sony Ericsson has confirmed that you will be able to still get SEUS updates as long as you carry on using stock SE firmware, even if the bootloader is unlocked.
Click to collapse
It’s also noted that, while Sony Ericsson have provided this service, using it may void your warranty. Also if you change the bootloader or load custom ROMs on to the handset, you will not be able to receive updates provided by Sony Ericsson through SEUS. However if unlocking the boot loader is all you do, you will be able to continue to receive updates from Sony Ericsson as usual.

SE themselves allowed the boot loader to be unlocked and not some third party unlocking it. So surely as long as the boot loader is unlocked and nothing else is done it should be ok?
Maybe rooting your phone and removing bloat makes SE think you have modified the firmware? Not sure but some guy on SE fourms http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/75368 claims to be able to use SEUS to repair his Arc with an unlocked bootloader and the thread is from the 18th may.

Yes it's but they don't support the versions available for us end users. Odin available here and there is a leak of the Samsung Odin which leaked some years ago and then developers have added a windows UI to it and made it available for us. No but I think it's the same here, some guy found a leaked Sony tool and then made a new one himself to suit the needs of us users. This is just my thoughts about Flashtool thought and not sure if it's true.
Edit: I had right, Sony is offering a Flashtool them self. http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/ so he/she didn't even need to get inspiration from a leaked one, but an official tool made by Sony.
Well you do it your way, but I'm offering this as a help to users that both want to unbrand or save their device from a semi brick.

I don't know actually I guess that the root exploits that exist works on that version too and otherwise you could backup TA partition unlock bootloader, root with an su.zip then restore ta and wola a root that works on all versions and you'll still have locked bootloader and drm keys

does this also apply to me? I'm currently on .253 firmware, locked bootloader, root, CWM+TWRP dual recovery, navigation bar mod, frooze or deleted some bloatware apps.
Root will be lost I assume and the mod? Will the bloatware be back but everything else like apps, save games, pictures, music, settings be retained? Is there root yet for locked bootloader and .423 4.2.2. firmware?

Thanks. I'll try Emma again soon. Ironic really - Emma is a Sony developer tool which is meant to give updates a bit sooner than the usual methods
For those of us that are on Cyanogen, is there any way of finding out if the FTF has any important firmware updates in there?
I can rename the .370 FTF to ZIP and see all the sin files, but the vast majority I am unsure about.
Otherwise, I can always nandroid and do it that way

Relock your BL or wait for a ftf.
The problem is not using a custom rom and update with pcc (the rom doesn't matter but the kernel yes), it's when your bl is unlocked you can't update via SUS/PCC no more.

Emma has the 4.2.2 version despite the fact is says 4.1.2. I used Emma and it worked fine for me, though I didn't get my correct region (I'm in Canada and it gave me a UK firmware)

Once the FTF is out and about is there a way of knowing what we need to flash (and perhaps how) to not affect our existing custom setup?

When you flash a ftf file with flashtool, deselect DATA in the wipe section (box in top right corner). That will preserve your data when you flash.

Ok, sounds like a good compromise
When someone uses PCC to download the firmware, is a local copy stored?
Just wondering what the chances of getting this file are!
I like everything is this update, except the recent apps tray. Swiping away should always be 'swipe across' not 'swipe up or down'.
Few new features might have been nice, but can't complain. At least it's arrived!
It also has the thumb keyboard!

Make sure you read the service information of the update and make sure it says 10.3.1.C.0.136. If it doesn't then its not 4.2.2.

Flashed using the latest flashtool, lost my camera. Just a black screen. Other apps declare they cannot connect to camera... trying to figure out what went wrong. Hopefully it didn't brake my TA.
Edit: I am sure I flashed danw_oz's TA onto my device. I have no TA backup. I think I am ****ed.

No, your TA will be fine. When I upgraded it force closed the camera twice then after it was fine.
I am having another look at this file, because the FTF creation has changed slightly from the Xperia Z.
It shows an update on Sony Companion but not OTA. I am waiting for OTA coz I don't want to lose my root.

This is my first ever FTF flash on the Z1. It was a telstra branded phone.
I will note that I un-ticked 'data' under the flashtool wipe options on my initial flash of your FTF. I preferred to keep my settings intact, but that wasn't a deal breaker.
No matter what I did (re-flashing, rebooting, changing apps, etc), camera was broken for a couple of hours... I was getting a bit panicky.
I decided to let PC Companion to fix it by clicking 'your device is up to date' and in the pop-up selecting 'repair my phone'. It picked up as a generic 4.3 device, re-downloaded the 14.2 firmware and installed it. Part of that process is a factory wipe. Camera works now and I have firmware from Sony server. It is possible a full wipe would have achieved the same result, but I was looking for the most reliable, first try, answer.
Thanks for the FTF, though. I now have an unbranded 4.3 Z1.
flash rom
I have a Telstra branded Z1, so if I flash generic stock Australian rom and change the software id to match will I still receive OTA updates like it was from the factory. Phone details are : model number: c6903 build number 14.1.g.2.259 software id : 1277-2878 r3a . thanks in advance
When I flash UK-Vodafone firmware SuperiorAuto can capture 20MP but in Europe firmware can 8.3MP in SuperiorAuto mod,why is there difference?

I am not sure because I am always too impatient to wait to see if an OTA arrives there is no reason why not, you just receive carrier specific updates

Cool, sorry for all the hassle, I am in the process of uploading a cut of the FTF that uses a generic loader rather than the one from my phone, this fixed issues before with the Xperia Z
Just confirmed, you definitely get OTA updates with this region.
Ok no worries, will have to give it a go That telstra splash screen must die. Thanks for the reply

mmm I think I may give it another 2 weeks and see if our slack network provider pushes the update. They're generally about 3 weeks behind the world. If nothing, then I may just give this a crack.
The question is, can I hold out for 2 weeks??
I see some FTF's have 20mp auto with the camera. Is this 20 or the normal 8mp?

It's not worth waiting , this update makes your phone really fly, and better battery, camera is slightly better, I don't seem to have 20MP, but am sure it will be ported to work soon
I can't wait OTA. I did up upgrage via PC Companion. Phone is flying now. I did flash generic AU to debloat all Telstra stuff then upgrade to 4.3.

I purchased a Telstra branded Z1 C6903. I can confirm after installing generic stock Australian firmware that PC companion recognises my phone as a generic C6903. I would presume that OTA will be the same. If not, I know I can always get future official updates through PC companion anyway.

It takes time to bloat a ROM
Grabbed this today as my carrier in NZ hasn't pushed out the update yet, am new to this and want to make sure there won't be any issues flashing a different country FTF?
Thanks
