CM 10.1 mounts in the internal SD in the proper root directory: /sdcard/
Just a thought if it's a deal breaking feature for you.
EDIT: I'm actually not sure this can be done on CM10.1 either....

Edit: ive just found out a day ago that if u install the international version of software that has been pushed out as an ota update it has this done ! Apps 2 sd!! But still have to wait for ours on att. Or hopefully a dev will code it into a rom for us . I was just actually mad becuz the sell it as internal sd storage when it really is not separate from the phone memory that the system is on . I had a captivate that had it separated. But still loving the phone regardless.

Anybody know if custom ROMs like cm10 would help us get back some SD card space (after bootloader unlock)?
9GB is ridiculous.

Of course they would, they don't have any of the Samsung proprietary stuff that takes up all the space

Yes, we just have to wait for the bootloader unlock to be released and the nightlies of CM 10.1 to start.
So SD card repartition would be covered in the ROM install? I wasn't sure if these were separate activities.

I don't believe the SD card is partitioned different, I believe if you hhave root you can access all the samsung stuff in hidden folders and not on a desperate partition
I have the 16gb and was thinking about upgrading to the 32 on the 10th... I know cm10 and other roms will take advantage of the external sd card. But will the other TW based roms give you the freedom to use external as the main storage? I dont see a point in upgrading if they do...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
Even with custom roms you still can't move apps to sd card as the limitation is android where Google does not allow it. You will still need to use some kind of app to accomplish moving apps to sd card.

Would apps like GL to SD work on S4?
I have s3 right now and I'm wondering if I can use this app the same way I did on S3.
Lack of memory is a major concern to me as I have lots of large games...

Moving Apps

I have just migrated from GS2 to the GS4,
Why cant i move Apps to extSD card to enable me to free-up more of the internal SD memory like i could with the S2??
The option was removed in ics/jb (not sure which version exactly) because Google think that microSD card aren't reliable enough.

I know something called redpill was available for the galaxy note, which changed the external SD card with the internal SD memory and somehow enabled users to move apps across to the external SD Card thought something might be available for the S4 by now??

[Q] Can't move my apps to a sd card

Hey
So I installed the newest official Samsung firmware which was suppose to allow moving my apps to my sd card. When I go to my apps I can see tge button that says "move to sd card". When I press it the app goes from the phones internal memory to the so called internal sd card which is the same in all s4's instead of the "extSdCard" what is the actual sd card I have.
Why those apps doesn't really go to the sd card and why would Samsung hype this newest update with that feature when it doesn't even work.

some apps do not support app 2 sd i.e : whatsapp antutu etc... its how it works.... im sure things will get better with newer android updates
Its moves the app only, not the data files.
If you still want to move the files, use foldermount.
Directory bind doesnt work anymore. Only foldermount has a patch to work around it.

No, it doesn't even move the apps. I just said that in the first post. They just go to the internal "sd card" intead of the "extSdCard". I tried with every one of my apps so it's not about some apps not supporting app2sd.

I just got my samsung galaxy s4 (GT-I9500) but it seems that it is impossible to move apps on SD card.
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: I9500XXUAMDK
Build Number: JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDK
I also read some forums and learned that samsung already addressed this issue by making the upgrade or updates but unfortunately my phone is up-to-date already.
Can somebody please tell me when does the said update will come out here in Philippines? I believe there's a lot of S4 users who also has this trouble as our phones int. memory gets lower and lower. :crying:
thanks
The update will not save you much of any space, so I'm a bit surprised that people are still so fixated on it.

Is working exactly as it should. Only the apk is moved. The bulk of the space is consumed by the app's data, which is not supposed the be moved by this "feature."

WTF ?! And what then is the point of this feature?

custom rom or remove bloatware?

Hi,
I will be receiving a galaxy S4 soon.
I need to know what would be the best option.
I am going to root & then either:
remove all bloatware using a no bloat or root uninstall app.
or
install a custom rom Doc Barebone possibly??
I would like to get as much space back as possible as I have heard that you only get around 9gb on a 16gb model.
Ideally I would like to keep (or reinstall with full functionality) the stock camera app.
I am not fussed about all of the touchwiz wizardry.
I also need to be able to install apps 2 sd card
& have live wallpapers & a music & video player
How much space is usable after a doc barebones rom install?
Apologies for all questions, coming back to android after a few years on iphone.
None of roms than I see opens more Space, you can move some apps to sd card.

I read that the Google play rom gives 12gb usable space as there is no bloatware & was considering it also. I thought the doc barebones may give slightly more.
Do all of the custom roms have app2sd functionality?
Can you install live wallpapers on the doc barebones rom?

Thanks for this , it looks like I will install doc barebones as it keeps the stock camera & if I can store apps on sd as well that will be great.
One more question, if installing a rom with no bloatware doesn't give more space, would it not be easier to just root & remove bloat ware from stock.
I'm a bit disappointed I thought I could have got some of the storage back. I read on another thread that Samsung have partitioned it so that 8-9gb is free regardless.
Read elsewhere that the google version of s4 has 12gb free.
Is there no way to completely wipe the phone & installation rom that gives you the same 12gb as the google edition..?
The apps to sd "feature" does not save you any appreciable space. You are far better off using a third party app to move the data to external sd and symlink back to the internal memory.

Reasons why people use Modified Stock ROMS is simply because the developers do a lot of editing as well as build.prop tweaks to insure Performance and Overall Stability.
Regardless of what TW Rom you use, you will have about 8.+ ----9Gb free space...
Don't Say Thanks. Hit IT LOL..
Hi.,
I have the i9505 version. I have rooted using Odin & now have su rights
I noticed that the docsbarebones rom is for the other galaxy.
Are there any roms that keep the stock camera & have apps 2 sd
Apologies noob
*** edit I have tried a few roms , but what I did was unrooted & loaded the german version of stock rom that has apps2sd then used auto root so I can remove bloat.
When I send an app 2 sd it sometimes says your device cannot move 2 sd card.
It still lets me do it though.
*** further edit. It isnt actually working.
Get error "/The_Device_does_not_have_a_real_primary_external_storage_or_the_primary_external_storage_is_emulated__Moving_app_to_SD_Function_my_not_be_supported"
What can I do to get apps2sd?
Does anyone know how to get app2sd on galaxy s4? It says its installing to sd card but its just writing it to internal.
I checked by installing a massive game, said it was all on sd, but when I uninstalled it gave me the space back internally.

Hi, none of the files ever get copied to the external sd card though. They end up in some sort of sd/emulated/0 folder.
They arent on the external sd card. Everything seems to get stored internally.

That's the way it is supposed to be. The apps to SD feature is such a waste of time, I wonder why anyone even bothers. Only a single small installation file is moved to your external. Everything else is left internally. That is by design. If you want actual app to SD functionality, you're going to have to use a third party app such as Folder Mount to get it.

I think link2sd can do it. I have had no luck though. I cant get it to recognise the second partition.
2 of my main reasons for getting this phone was ability to store apps on external sd & a good camera . They are both frustrating me now as I cant get any method to work for my sd storage & seemingly galaxy s4 has hardware limitation on camera functions my iPhone 4s could do.

[Q] Question about installing Apps to SD on I-9505 16GB

I read recently in the papers that there's a way of being able to install Apps onto a SD card in the phone instead of on the device due most of the internal memory being taken up with all kinds of crap.
If so, how do I do it if I install a custom ROM as I'm planning on rooting the phone ASAP and putting in a 64gb microSD card of which there should be plenty of space to install games onto it.
You can transfer app from internal memory to SD card with app.

So if I use a App like App2SD, there shouldn't be a maximum size limit on installing apps to the SD card, except the one for the SD card itself, I take it?
You are correct

To be clear, the stock app to sd implementation is extremely limited. You only move the apk. All of the app's data still resides on your internal
