Walmart is selling the nooks in store for nearly the same price - Nook HD, HD+ General

In store only. nook hd 8gb is $129
nook hd + 16 gb $149
not sure on the others. i live in valparaiso indiana. in store only. i price matched mine with best buy. used a $20 reward zone card. $139.09 out the door. best buy called and verified stock and price. Walmart seems to have a ton of these

http://slickdeals.net/f/6073000-B-M...-HD-8GB-129-Nook-HD-16GB-149-Nook-HD-32GB-179
Here is the Slickdeals thread for the Walmart sales. The HD+ 32GB is higher, but the others are comparable. It depends on which is more hassle for you, trolling Walmart stores or getting a membership and trolling Nook CSRs.

Target is getting in on the act. Same sales price as Wally, starting June 9. Regardless of whether Nook is getting acquired by MS, it's pretty clear that all these aren't just normal sales, that B&N is indeed clearing out its Nook hardware.

Well, perhaps they finally found that they cannot fix the broken sdcard controller without a new hardware revision

My guess is they are bailing from the hardware business and trying another approach to remain part of the user content side of the industry.

Picked one up at Walmart today for $149 running cm10 off SD card.

Target, Best Buy, Staples price drop

Target $399 + $50 gift card
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have next weeks sales flyer. Starting tomorrow (Sunday 7-17-11) Target is selling the A500 16gb for $399 + a $50 gift card *while supplies last.
If my math is correct that is like getting the A500 for $349 .
Best Buy and Staples both advertise the "new low price" as $399.99 starting tomorrow.
I think we are going to be seeing many more Acer A500 owners

Yep Which means this place is going to be flooded with "where's my 3.1?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" posts very soon unless they become more timely for folks.
Boy oh boy.
What Acer needs to do is drop an update file with explicit instructions on their site so people can update themselves. I believe they will do this eventually, I think there just needs to be incremental ones before the most recent one which is why people are getting them that way for now. They'll probably move to a build that doesn't require piece updates hopefully.
Of course, it's still not a win situation because you know some idiot is going to do it wrong and come here wanting to sue Acer or going overboard as usual (even though it's their fault).
Bought mine from Target on June 24th for $487 after tax. Called today to see if they would give me difference on price drop, they said only if bought less than two weeks ago.
I went to Target prepared to return and go to WalMart and by another one, but Target said I could return and then buy my same tablet back at new price, $432 after tax. So I didn't have to mess with setting up a new tablet and messing with regetting 3.1.
They didn't say anything about a $50 card but I'm happy with the $55 savings. I love the A500.

[Q] NC refub, a good idea?

i'm looking for a new tablet and found a refub of NC for 120$ is a refub a good idea?
with all the shipping cost it will go up to 169$, there are also other no name tablets (some of them are good) for this price (with the shipping...)
need some advice
Yes, great deal. I have bought one new nook and one refurb and you could not tell the difference. Do NOT go with a no name tablet or you will be crusing trying to do anything. The Nook is a great low priced tablet that is very hackable and easy to use. Plus it is unbrickable and can boot from an SD card

well... orderd mine a min ago... 127$ with NJ tax + 44$ local tax and shipping...

Ditto on buying a refurbished one. I also bought one new and one refurbished and could not tell difference. But check out the refurbished ones being sold on eBay directly by B&N for $119.00 plus sales tax and free shipping. Look at posts here in this thread for a direct link.
I have a refurb also that I got from Overstock. It was shipped from B&N. Paid 139.
It was in perfect condition with no issues. 1 year warranty.
So...at 119....it is a steal.
I'm glad to see that you guys have good luck with your refurbs. I ordered one from B&N on Ebay last night. $119 plus $9.29 OK sales tax. I can't wait for it to get here.

Refurb is even better than new. They rigorously test the refurbs so they are pristine.
Barnes & Noble is presently selling them on eBay for $129 with free shipping... And since you are essentially buying from B&N warranty issue should also be no problem.
I scored one for 119 plus 7 dollars missouri tax on Sunday night. Its gonna be a xmas present for a 4 year old who won't leave his mommies evo3d alone. I look forward to being part of your community.

It's a great idea mate. I bought mine refurbished with a 1 year warrenty and I'm happy as can be. Buying a NC new at this stage would be a waste in my options as long as you get it from a good source with a trustworthy warrenty furbed.
Get a good deal from B&N with ebates!
Ok, so I learned that ebates doesn't give cash back on Nook purchases. Now if you buy B&N gift cards (not customizable ones), that should qualify for cash back (8% as of now 11/30/11). B&N also has a $10 eGift card for every $100 gift card purchased promotion ($10 to be given after Christmas 12/26/11). Buy $200 in gift cards and get $20 later. You will also qualify for first ebates $10 gift card and cash back ($200 x 8% = $16). So if you're willing to wait for gift cards and cash back later, you can spend $200 and get $30 back in gift cards and $16 cash back via ebates!

Found a coupon for $10 gift card for $50 purchased at Target (in store only). Expires 12/3/11.
http://coupons.target.com/facebook-friends-and-fans-coupons
Don't forget to signup with ebates to get cash back and $10 gift card (Target, B&N, others..).

I was able to return/ rebuy my HD+ that I picked up on BF. If you have bought your nook from BF on, you have until January 12th to return your nook at staples.
You saved me 70 bucks!! Thanks
Thank you for the heads up!
I've been running a rooted Nook Touch for quite some time, as well as an older Nook Color with CM installed. I'm actually on the verge of looking for a larger tablet that can better handle PDFs, and had almost passed on the HD+ until I saw this deal...
That said... For those of you with the HD+, how would you compare the experience with the rooted CM10 HD+ to the stock unit? I used the stock reader on the HD+ to look at a larger PDF in the B&N store, and it was absolutely terrible. I'm not entirely keen on having to rely on dev supported workarounds in order to have the hardware work, but for 200 bucks, I might look the other way. My other runnerup is the Lenovo A2109. Though it has a so-so screen, the hardware and other functionality seems to be great. It's also available for about $230, making the price point quite attractive for a 9" tablet.
If the HD+ experience post root and CM10 hugely improves on the capabilities of the hardware, when compared to the B&N stock software, then I may have have to reconsider it. Did you all find the tablet to be much improved?
I'd appreciate any feedback you all can throw at me! That Staples price makes this very, very tempting.

I would not say the CM10 is any faster than stock HD+. In fact the nook reader is much worse on CM10 than stock. I don't know what you were using to read that PDF on stock, but the stock nook app on stock was very smooth and fast reading a magazine and very choppy using the nook app on CM10. And the post root does not change the underlying speed of stock, just makes it so you have access to more apps. So maybe you could run adobe reader that does a better job than the stock reader for PDF.

Low cost sleeve for HD+
This sleeve is good quality (was sold by verizon for ~$40) and fits the Nook HD+ very well. Lengthwise the nook just fits, while there is a little bit of extra space vertically. The nook slides in easily, but is not loose. The edges all around have a hardened seam which might help protect the nook if dropped on the edge. The sleeve is not flimsy, but I would expect it to protect the screen only from minor impacts.
It has been on sale for as low as $1. I'd say it's still a good value at $5 as the alternative is some poor quality neoprene sleeve. It has a small verizon logo on the front which is hardly noticable. If I see them go on sale again I will probably buy another.
URL:bensoutlet.com/products/verizon-deluxe-leather-tablet-sleeve
I imagine they're on clearance due to many 10" tablets not being able to fit.
Nice post I was going to give the heads up too.
Things of note if you go and by it off the shelf it will cost regular price. If you reserve it at your local store from the website you can get the sale price and have it within an hour. I took mine back to BN drove across the street and pocketed $70... love it.

the 22nd? heh, nope. the price is already back up.
I actually had it in my cart at the lower price and....I dunno what happened...I lost the page and was gonna redo it but the price had changed.
Saw this on woot community deals Sunday. Ordered. Got it Tuesday, wow.fast. Made a sd card with Verygreen's CM10 and am rocking. Went back on Staples.com to verify price before I told anyone but the price had already gone back to regular.
Just to post an update...
The price has indeed increased. I suspect Staples ran out of stock, and removed the discount. That said, I swung by Staples last night, and decided to give the HD+ a try. Manager matched the online price, and I was out the door for 199 and tax.
Impressions? CM10 via SD card is vastly superior to the stock B&N offering. It feels snappier, and rendered my PDFs much quicker than the HD+ store demo unit running B&N's version of ICS. I was actually quite surprised at just how much better the tablet feels and performs. For $199, it was quite the steal. I figured if I didn't like it, I could simply return it to Staples and find something else, but as it stands, there's nothing that would make me want to do that. It's a great piece of bang for the buck hardware, and the screen is fantastic.
SanDisk?

Do you have a SanDisk microSD card? I tried it with a GSkill and it's a bit laggy, and nearly unusable in the browser. I'm getting a SanDisk today. Hopefully that fixes my problem.
I have tried Lexar Class 10 32GB card w/o any problem or show any lagg.

$50 Bestbuy gift card

Go here: http://tinyurl.com/d3eczlq by 2-9-13 to reserve your gift card. Activate a new phone between 2-10-13 & 12-31-13 to receive the gift card. Good in store or online.
Checked best buy website, they did what I expected. The note 2 price bumped up to $250 from $200 so the gift card offer is useless since amazon has it for $200 or less.
May still benefit other phones, I didn't check them.

That may be true, but how long can they keep these prices up for? They're bound to go down by the end of this year, which is fine since the promotion lasts that long.

If you signed up for the deal then call your local best buy and ask if they'll price match amazon wireless and give you the gift card. I just got off the phone with a store by me and they said I can get both. So I'll be picking up a note 2 next week on upgrade for $150+tax. Maybe less since the amazon price keeps changing. Its $69 right now for a new customer.

Best deal on HD+ or wait till Black Friday

I have gone from Nook Color to Nook Tablet and now want the larger screen of the HD+. My previous devices have all been refurbs directly through the B&N ebay site and have never had a problem. It seems like most of the local stores don't seem to have the HD+ in stock any more so I'm wondering if there are going to be any good deals for a brand new unit for Black Friday. Should I just go with one of the ebay sites selling refurbs for around $115 now, or wait to see if I can get a new one during Black Friday? Does anyone know if B&N ever sells the refurbs any more or do they just have other sites doing it now? I felt a lot better getting it directly through them before.

You can do what I did- Staples lowered the 16 gig price to 129; I called them up about 3-4 time till one of their customer service reps applied a $20 off coupon manually (it technically probably shouldn't have been applied). Got my brand new 16gb for $117 including tax and shipping. Having a little trouble getting it to run as smooth as I like, but once I work all the little kinks out I believe it will be one of the best deals I've ever gotten. I wanted to try waiting till black Friday, but I figured a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Good luck!!

Staples does not have them available online and there are no staples in St. Louis (or nearby) for some stupid reason. Best Buy seems to be out of the 16GB. B&N retail stores have them, but I doubt they would price match Staples since they are not available. I just ordered some screen protectors so that when I do order one, I can stick one as soon as I open it. Hopefully the Black Friday ads start showing up so I can see if there is going to be any deals. I'm almost ready to just pull the trigger on one of the Ebay refurbs.

Ahh that sucks they dont have them anymore. Wish this thread would have been up even two days earlier, just friday I sent back a $99 refurb That I had ordered right before I had caught the staples deal.
But either way, depending on what your using it for, this can be a great tablet. Even though its a little older and not pushing as many pixels, I have found that my touchpad was running a little bit smoother than this. But I think as more builds come out, and people keep tweaking etc. this is going to be a really really solid tablet.
Has anyone else seen any good deals on a new HD+ from a local store (B&N, Bestbuy, Target, Walmart, etc)? I'm hoping I'll be able to order one online through one of these sites on Thanksgiving day (or earlier). I won't be able to go out in all the Black Friday madness.
Only thing I would suggest is to watch those deal sites such as Bens bargains for deals or try craigslist. Good luck.

They come and go at that price. I bought one from beststopdeals for $99 ten days ago. They are higher now.
I would not expect Black Friday to feature any Nooks at fire sale prices. Black Friday specials feature second and third tier merchandise at ridiculous prices, not "pre-owned" skus that have been on clearance for months. Maybe someone (probably B&N) will be selling new units for $129 (again).
Here's how I get the best prices if I'm willing to be patient:
1) set up a search with email notification at stuffalert.com. This free site only searches *bay but you can specify the country, buying format and price, etc.
2) set up an alert at slickdeals.net. I often find very good prices at big box stores like Kmart and Walmart where I don't usually shop.
Good luck.

I'll check a couple of local OfficeMax's and see if they have any. Too bad you can't check online. I might be willing to go $129 for a new one.
Right now a local Staples is holding a Nook HD+ for $130 for me. While the local GameStop is selling off the Nexus 7 2012 version for $99. I am unsure which one to get. I talked to the Staples store and they will price match the Nexus 7 from GameStop I know this is a Nook forum but which would you recommend. I like the bigger screen, but am worried about being able to upgrade to KitKat like the Nexus products will be able to do.
I ended up buying a refurb one on Ebay for $115, it arrives tomorrow. I was just out shopping and looked around in sears and they had a new one for $129. Wish I would have stopped by there last week. Their online price shows as $149 and it also says they didn't have them at my local store. If you are interested in a new one, it might be worth stopping by your local Sears to see if they have any for $129.
I just bought a 32gb this morning from staples with a $50 off coupon and the amex $25 off $75. Came out to $115 so I'm really excited! I saw one of them on display at target and thought they look great! I was ready to get one from ebay refurbished too so am really glad I didnt. The 7 inch tablets are too small (have 1st gen kindle) and tried an Asus 10 inches that was too big so this is middle ground.
