[Q] [q] [concern]htc one nexus edition - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What does this mean for our Nexus Devices...I remember a thread by someone saying Samsung S4 Nexus edition even though released wont affect the way Nexus devices are developed in future. Many people had argued on the thread that Nexus wont die and there would still be huge demand for it. But now what I ask is...Why is google launching Nexus Edition of other devices? Has it lost its faith in the existing line up?? Even LG has backed out of making N5 (Good for us but then who is making it?) ?? Could someone be helpful enough to explain why google is doing this?

Lost money.they had a company tell them they can keep up to the demand and when it came down to it they couldn't. Remember the phone sold out in hours ... This way hardcore HTC fans like myself will actually buy a HTC cause I always hated HTC sense but loved the build of there phones .and believe it or not there is a lot of amoled Samsung fans out there to who have been running cyanogenmod since day 1 on all there devices .
Makes sense really

What i meant was y has suddenly LG withdrawn from making N5 when rumors said that it was! I mean there is kind of no future of our precious Nexus line up if third parties are allowed to relaunch some of their phones as a nexus! i wouldn't say i would be a proud owner of a nexus device then! It wont be unique anymore...a symbol of devpt

4.65" is including the part for "buttons" since they will be on the screen as there aren't any physical keys. so technically it isn't 4.65"

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

Why Nexus4 is dead cheap?

can somebody tell me why the #nexus4 is that much cheap ($350 ). to recall, the #galaxys3 cost is #700+. do you think #nexus4 is better than #S3 in all aspects?
dont tell me that wait for reviews...it will be fun to discuss before release....
what I am thinking is the samsung hardware better than lg.
From what I've read from different articles it's supposed to be a budget smartphone thus the price tag. Who knows what the real reason might be.
I'd say they did it to further compete against apple and their rip off prices. Really that is how I see it. Discuss

The Galaxy Nexus has been just as cheap, and the Nexus 7 is also much cheaper than most other comparable tablets.
Google makes most of their money off advertising. They want more people using their product, they're not looking to make all their money via device sales.

Samsung gets money off their devices, Google gets money off their advertise and Google play services. This is also a reason why Nexus 7 was so cheap
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
I think google don't try to make much money from the hardware, but the nexus 7 and nexus 4 at those prices serve to get people into the google ecosystem, which is where the money is for them; advertising, collecting data, etc
It's an Android reference device. The point is to get stock Android out on modern hardware for development and hobbyist users. The low price is probably to increase the adoption rate amongst devs. If they get the price low enough (this is probably the sweet spot) it's worth buying even if it's not their daily use phone.
Google is reinventing the smart phone market. They price their products at an extremely affordable price. With it being brand new, completely awesome and it destroys the iphone. Who wouldn't buy?

Seriously what's with all the LG hate? Have you used the Optimus G? It is amazing and if the Nexus 4 is anything like it I will be VERY happy.
As for why the Nexus 4 is so cheap, Google is trying to create a brand, and what's the best way to build a loyal fan base then to offer an amazing device for an amazing price. They want to reach out to as many people as possible which is why they offer an 8GB model of the phone. Someone will buy one, show it off to their friend and then THEY will want one. It's a great strategy and I can see it working for them in the long run.

I love this phone already and don't even have it in my hands yet. Google=Genius for putting this monster piece of tech out on the market at such an affordable price point. They are essentially subsidizing the price so that they can build their ecosystem. Mad props to Google on making what looks to the be the best phone on the market and mad props to LG for the hardware. After my G2X, I told myself I'd never go LG again, but with Google handling the OS, it is safe to assume it will be nothing but buttery goodness.

That's just not true. Read some of the previous posts, as Oxirane wrote "Google makes most of their money off advertising. They want more people using their product, they're not looking to make all their money via device sales.". The price has got nothing to do with the popularity of the manufacturer...
Samsung galaxy nexus was 700 went it 1st come out. Nexus 4 starting price is no where near that. There r both Google.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The price you're paying for the Nexus 4 off of the Play store is Google selling the device at cost. Real world retail price would be much closer to the $599 that T-Mobile is charging for it when you factor in their subsidizing after the $199 up front.
They didn't skimp on features or hardware, this is just so they get as many people as possible on Android devices to spread out the advertising and get more people excited for development.

That $700 price you're referring to wasn't Google's. It was the price charged by retailers for an imported device. It was a lot cheaper when released in the US in the Play store.

there are a few developers and belive me i know a dead device i developed for the zte warp untill the androidforums.com mods told me there was no use move on.... the diference is there is no "community development" when multiple people work together to build the best rom possible and there id no themeing either which is a substancial part of any development community. i respect you evol4g otherwise i wouldnt have asked you to my team you are doing a great job keep it going the point of this post was to motivate some of the other developers that have been dormant since jellybean came out you all know that they are out there.
Mostly because people are waiting for 4.2. A lot of the current ROMs are similar and very stable so no need to really make new ROMs unless its say Touchwiz, Sense, or any other custom Android firmware. Wait until 4.2 and devs will probably start making more ROMs.
Incorrect thread is incorrect.

I will preface my comment by saying i really do appreciate all of the work still being done here. But, let's not kid ourselves. Compared to a year ago, or even 6 months ago, the development has slowed down substantially. I wouldn't say its dead, however this device is showing its age. There are new and better devices that a lot of the people that used to frequent this forum. have moved on to.
Again I do appreciate all of the work still happening in here. This is by far the best supported device I have owned!

After a year and a half I don't think there's much potential a dev hasn't thought of for this device. You don't see a lot of rom development much after the 2 year mark. Mainly because the devs upgrade to a new phone. I'm just grateful for the work the devs are currently doing!

It will pick back up when el goog releases 4.2 source. I don't think nexus s will "officially" get 5.0. I do think that a few devs will build it for this device regardless. I might even still be here for that, I haven't decided if I'm going to get a nexus 4 yet. The fact that there is potential for glass to break on both sides of the phone doesn't excite me...

Good points and when development does eventually grind to a halt for this device, none of us can really get upset about that. It seems to me for the age of this device, development work has far outlived many other phones.

Maybe we should all learn how to develop ROMs. That go's for all non developers in this community, including me. If there was any guides on how to build really good ROMs I think the nexus community will be more understanding of how it is to be a developer and evolve the community.

Why Is This Device Has Low Developing Activity

I've been watching this space for last few days, especially to know how much active development this device would get. There is no doubt that this is one of the best device you can buy right now in the Android market. But it still has less active development than a high end device would see after a month of its release. And being a cousin to Nexus 5, I thought this device will see the added advantage of much more development but what ever is happening is absolutely opposite to it. The development activity is so less, compared to what previous flagships HTC One, S4 had after one month of their respective release, there isn't a need to create separate forums for each major (carrier) version of the device.
Is it because locked bootloaders? or something else?.
blame it on Samsung S series and Note...Plus LG isnt known yet for the average consumer
I've also seen a number of people say that they like what LG has done with the stock ROM on this one (and I agree). I used CM for a year and a half or so on my GNex, and the couple of times I've tried getting used to it on my G2, I've always gone back to stock within a day or two.

Yes, I agree that LG G2 is not as quite as popular as it should beconfused but an average user doesn't hang out in XDA looking for different roms. Even Sony's one or two years old phones are getting KitKat where as this phone has not even having more ROMS to choose from. This is supposed to be the flagship & highest speced device along with Galaxy Note 3. And as I said, being a distant cousin device of Nexus 5, I thought many ROMs from different beloved developers will be available for this device but it is not the case. Many people like me choose Android platform over other(Windows Phone 8 & IOS) because of the availability of different ROMs to choose from. But seeing that is not the case, even those people back off from buying this device.

If you want more development then learn to develop and provide your work to the masses. Seems to me there are a few good devs working on this phone. Keep in mind there are several variants which complicates things. I believe that the Nexus 5 will help get more ports for this device but I don't feel entitled to ask for anything or complain about slow development.

With due respect, before giving those heroic comments & suggestions, you should have understand what I'm trying to do with this thread, which is to get to know the reasons for not seeing as much development as we usually see with flagship phones(I don't know where you get the notion that I was complaining). I never tried or try to complain or demand anything, heck who the hell I'm to even think of those lines. I clearly was asking for the reasons in the OP(than complaining about any thing) that is it because of locked bootloaders or some other reasons. And every flagship has different variants, its not this phone alone.
But one thing I'm sure about is, any one who visits or comes frequently to this wonderful forum, he/she buys the device which is supported by our beloved developers, they don't care about the manufacturers supporting them in software update.
The "why no development for this device" threads are getting tiresome no matter how an OP tries to disguise it.
If you want a device with a lot a ROM's, I suggest you get a Nexus or a Galaxy S phone and not an LG, Plain and simple.
A lot of xda users know that LG suck at providing updates to the latest version of Android. Samsung and HTC used to be the same way but they have really improved. Besides when it comes to GSM devs, I think most preferred going with the cheaper option the Nexus 5 offers. Also, quite a few people don't really like the rear button placement. Most of us have gotten used to it but try convincing someone who has yet to try the device.

I think this is one of the reasons. Prior to getting the G2, I used phones that were as close to vanilla as possible, and modded my phone to be that. I am actually very pleased with how LG built their UI and I appreciate tge customization that is built in. I have never seen so many people on here so happy with the UI that they weren't in a rush to ROM their phones. Hell, the only reason I even rooted and added TWRP was to use certain apps.
The second reason I don't think it's not getting the support you're looking for is tge cost and how close to tge Nexus 5 it was released. If I was a developer, it would be hard to justify spending $600 outright for a phone when the Nexus was right around the corner with similar hardware for $350. The only thing that might motivate me to purchase the G2 would be the fact that I'm on Verizon and we won't be getting a Nexus.

Is it true the LG one would have 2 gigs of RAM? I sorta expected 3. . . Even though LG's my first preference, the 3GBs of RAM on the Huawei variant kinda makes me wanna buy that one. (Of Course it's all rumors and speculation still) I intend to use loads of Xposed modules and recently xposed seems to be ram hungry.
But I hope the Huawei one also gets great developer support for custom roms and everything..
Cause I dunno, there's just something in the back of my mind that still isn't a hundred percent on-board with the idea of purchasing a Huawei.

Naawww... Rumored specs are 3g ram for both 5x and 6p
Nexus 5X all the way!
Waiting for coming
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Free mobile app
I currently own an S4 and wanting to move on to next Nexus, I just have a query. S4's camera quality on CM roms is really pathetic as compared to stock TouchWiz, does same go for Nexus devices? Do they also have poor camera quality on custom roms when compared to factory images?

Camera quality is not changed in custom ROMs on any Nexus device and all Sammy phones have better camera quality on TW ROMs that's a fact.

OEMs like Samsung, LG etc have proprietary drivers that custom ROMs don't have access to so the cameras are far less in my opinion but Nexus devices being Google, we have them, so you won't see any difference.
Can't wait to have a Nexus again and use your awesome ROM and all the others (sorry ☺).. Do you guys think it will have front facing speakers? Loved them on the N6.. It was just to big..
Is there an app to notify when the new devices are added to the Google store?

I'm sure this has been talked about, but what do you guys think the chances of the nexus 5 2015 having Verizon or sprint bands? I'm hoping for Verizon. This would be my first nexus and am anxiously awaiting.
Had a Nexus 5. Fell in water. Bought a OnePlus 1 but really missed Nexus so I´ll be getting this new Nexus 5 as soon as I can.

me too
I'm very pumped about the 5X as it will be mine. Interested in the 6p as it may become mine. October always has me in a tissy because of the venerable Google phones!
"Upgraded" from the original Nexus 5 to the Galaxy S6. Though the hardware may be better, I still miss my Nexus 5. Android just felt much better when it didn't have anything over it. My body and wallet are ready for the Nexus 5X!
