Customizing? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, I unlocked/rooted my phone and I'm wondering if there's anyway to customize which settings are in the notification bar? I'm hesitant to install a new rom because the stock rom has been solid, and I had less than stellar results on past android devices when using custom roms (random fc's, slowdowns, etc, even with CM).
Anyway, I basically want a quick flashlight toggle, and maybe put a few more quick settings options in there. Would it require a new rom?

Thanks, another question... what about customizing the unlock screen? Like dragging the slider up opens voice search and left opens camera?:good:

Install battery widget reborn, it has nice notification area, with flashlight, wifi settings, bluetooth, data sync, pretty much everything you have in quick settings

I'm pretty sure that it would require a ROM to put it on the lock ring but there's a camera lockscreen widget and you can touch and hold the nav bar on the lock screen to get search

OP, this is a Nexus. You won't find more functional ROMs. Just pick one and flash it.

[Q] change lockscreen wallpaper w/pattern?

I am sick of looking around and searching so I am sorry if this has been discussed, I have tried using widgetlocker but cant seem to find where to setup a pattern lock, any ideas, all I would like to do is change the lock screen wallpaper but still have my pattern lock. Thanks in advance.
ps. I am rooted running CM7-EX
I haven't seen that option un any apps or roms beside miui

any devs out there that know how or are maybe interested in a way... I would be willing to donate for something like that and I am sure others would too....
MikFroyo 4.4 has it if you flash the rotary lockscreen mod. I'm using it right now. He adds an app to set up patterns or gestures, then you can disable the slide lock, and have an only gesture lockscreen.

I assume that is not something I can flash over my CM rom? Let me know if that is not the case, but thanks, this is on the right track.

toggles on notification bar

Hi,
The notification bar of the stock Nexus 7 rom is really useless except the notifications. Is there any way to add toggles like Samsung Galaxy series phones to the notification bar ?
also, in description of some custom roms, I read:
Custom Navbar Targets (Up to 7)
Custom Navbar Ring Targets (Up to 5)
What does that mean ?
Thanks.
For adding toggles, I've been happiest with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc

Thank you. That's a good one. Although I was looking for a something integrated to the systemUI, Power Toggles does what I need.

there's always notification toggle as well, which should do exactly what you're looking for
Best way to get the integrated experience is to use AOKP or CM10 (or one of the variants).

what do you mean by "integrated experience" ?
do I have to wipe data when passing from Stock 4.1.2 to any custom rom (4.1.2) ?

The only way to get then built into the systemui is to flash a rom that has em. Yes you will need to wipe data going from stock to cm10 or aokp. I would suggest buying titanium backup and use that to backup all your apps. Then once reflashed on your custom Rom reinstall TiBu and restore apps you absolutely need data from like games. And then just restore the app only for apps you don't needs data from.

Try this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...rch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5qaW0yIl0.
I use SwitchPro Widget rather than ones that come with the roms. Plenty of custom options. Well worth the price.

There is actually an app called "notification toggle" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwiZGUuajR2ZWxpbi5ub3RpZmljYXRpb25Ub2dnbGUiXQ..
no linky.
+1 for notification toggle..good app.

+2 for 'Notification Toggle' in Play Store. Unbelievable # of choices, including single-digit battery %, user apps, all the normal toggles.
thanks for all the solutions , apps that are suggested on this thread.
I've tried most of them and they seem to be working as requested.
However, the best solution is to use a rom with integrated features.
I've used Cookies&Cream 10/16 1.3.1 and it's fine enough.
thank you all...
Power Toggles, Notification Toggles, 1TapQuickBar and Notification Bar Deluxe are all I know

[FEEDBACK] What do you want in a ROM?

Hey Guys/Gals!,
Just wanted to make this quick thread and ask everyone what would YOU like in a ROM? I've been flashing all types of ROMs for a multitude of devices and have never made one before. That has changed, I'll be making and releasing my first ROM for this device.
It'll be built from source and will have any additional/available goodies I can bake in too So please let me know your thoughts and/or requests
Requests so far:
- Undervolting
- Button changing toolkit (Shapes and positions of the nav buttons so that everyone can choose their favorite )
- Ability to have the buttons and notification bar at the bottom, to save space
- A permanent menu button
- Combination of SuperNexus' battery life, ParanoidAndroid's hybrid modes, DPI central control, status bar and navigation color control, AOKP like ROM manager and tweaks
- SetCPU like control with profiles, system app mover built in, optional choice to click which apps to pre install
- GPS lock tweaks for faster GPS connection, undervolting (which was already said), custom vibrations, tablet style notification bar on bottom of the screen, center clock, custom led indicators for different apps, any other speed tweaks you can bake in!
- Expand desktop feature like on paranoidandroid!
- Built in boot loader changer.
- Paranoid Android, tablet mode + keys. Boss.

How so? Like for the nav buttons on the bottom?
Ability to have the buttons and notification bar at the bottom, to save space.
And a permanent menu button.
More specifically, being able to launch different shortcuts from the navigation buttons.
Possibly even having the ability to toggle the navigation buttons either by long pressing the back button or whatever, while returning with a swipe up from the button type thing.
Just some ideas that I've used on my TF201 running Eos.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone! Keep them coming

2 Features that I think I had in MIUI-XJ on the desire:
1. The ability to lock apps with a password / swipe code.
This was great for me as I could just swipe to unlock my phone, then lock down email and social networking apps. I wasn't concerned about the dialer or contacts.
2. In the same vein, MIUI also had private mode. Hit the button and your call history is hidden as well as all your SMS messages. Microsoft WP8 has the child mode. Something like that would be nice for those times when you hand your phone to someone else.

Tablet Mode on 4.2.1?

Hi!
I want Tablet Mode on my Stock Nexus 7, but the Tablet-Mode-Patch is for the oldest Stock ROM. Does it still work with 4.2.1? Cuz I dont like DPI Change...
Its rooted
It seems that the patch still work on 4.2.1 according to the folloing post. (sorry, I'm still on custom rom based on 4.1.2.)

kodiak, how did u deodex it?
You don't need to deodex. Grab the 4.2.1-TabletUI.zip from the following link (Post 912) and apply in recovery. Laucher is messed up but Nova Launcher free works great.

you could also install paranoid android, where you can choose which layout (phone, phablet, tablet...) you wish to use, you can even set layouts for individual apps or app groups (e.g. Launcher + google mail in tablet mode, other apps stay phablet)

I am currently running paranoid androids latet rom, and the main thing I'm struggling with is that the 3 buttons (back, home, and the 3rd button that brings up recent apps) are centered, when I want them on the let side. Does the patch fix that?
Also, is there a way to remove the lock screen tiles? I think I saw other threads saying that this change was related to the lawsuit but didn't find anything that allows you to take those off. At the very least I'd want to change the font if I have to keep it.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Yes the tablet patch takes the 2 seperate nav bar and task bar and puts them to the bottom like they should be imho.
I dont even run the lock screen so I cant answer that question.

In Paranoid settings, change the UI to Tablet UI (mid) and you'll have the navigation bar buttons to the left hand side like you want.
Also, the way to get rid of the lockscreen tiles is to install Lockscreen Policy.

Sprint GS4 - Rom 'Rootbox' Help

Just recently flashed Rootbox rom and it's not a bad rom at all. Loads of customization along w/ all bloatware removed although the onscreen nav bar buttons are insanely annoying. The onscreen buttons take the place of your capacitive buttons at the bottom of your phone. Since they take up precious screen real estate I'd love to see them gone but can't seem to find anywhere in settings that allows me to deactivate the nav bar. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me solve the troubling issue... Thanks!!

1) Where did you get Rootbox from? I haven't seen it posted on XDA.
2) You should probably ask in the thread where you got the rom.

Solution
I uninstalled Rootbox and instead flashed Triforce which is an alright rom but too similar to Jellybean 4.2.2. I also found out how to remove the onscreen buttons (Hold down power, Disable expanded desktop). Well, I thought I had fixed it until there was no status bar up top (Bar on the top of your screen that includes, Battery, Wifi, Network, Clock). Only way to see that status bar that I had found was to enable expanded desktop which brought back the onscreen buttons...You see my dilemma?
