[Solved] Google Calendar May29 update features missing - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just got the update for google calender (the one with the new color chooser and date/time picker etc) and updated it, but everything is the same, no difference at all, date picker is still the same, doesn't look anything like the new screenshots.
I am using ParanoidAndroid rom btw. I even tried completely uninstalling the calendar app using titanium, and the reinstalling from google play, still it is the same as the older version.

Screenshots would suggest the new view is tablet view, not phone...apart from the last few

You should have the new colour thing and the new date/time picker. You can check the version number in the menu, from Settings->About Calendar.
The new version is 201305280.

Im having the same issue. But it looks like they might have reverted the version on Play. Play lists the version as 201212060 even though it was updated yesterday.

Hmmm, yea mine is still the older version, looks like they aren't sending the update out yet, even though blog said "yesterday". I guess this is solved, try to get an apk from someone who has it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

Well I got it, but I don't know how to upload to this site away from the pc

Here is the apk for the new Calendar.

[Q] Google Maps Live Wallpaper Gone

I noticed that the Google Maps Live wallpaper is no longer part of the options on Froyo.
Does anyone know how to get it on there or any news about it?
This happened on an update.zip upgrade from DI18 to EB13 on multiple phones.
Also looking for it
I'm also looking for it. Please update if you find it.
In the meantime, you can use this alternative:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700786
Also, in this thread people are also looking for this wallpaper.
Thanks for the links. I tried the one you suggested and it just force closes everyone I try to load it. Oh well, the quest continues.
Thanks again for the help.

Who is "they" and how do I activate this on my phone? I have never been able to find out how even though once in a while I come across a reference to "Google Maps Live Wallpaper" on the interwebz. Can't find it on the market. Can't find it as an option in Google Maps. Can't find in in my wallpaper picker.
Any further explanation would be appreciated.

'They' would be GOOGLE (thought that was obvious, but maybe not). Your phone and Android version must support 'live wallpapers'. I think it started at 2.2. If it does, when you go to WALLPAPERS from home screen there will be a LIVE WALLPAPERS choice.
Until a recent GOOGLE MAPS update, if you have GOOGLE MAPS installed, MAPS would appear on the WALLPAPER/LIVE WALLPAPERS list. It started appearing there many iterations of G Maps ago.
I got all excited today when another update for G Maps popped up, thinking maybe they had accidentally left it off the last one and were updating to fix... no such luck.
I am back to using Advanced Map, which does a FORCE CLOSE everytime you boot phone, but after that works fine.

Can you not roll back the update in the application manager?

I am trying to get older version now. Will check the 'roll back' angle, but found website with them.

6.0.1 didn't do it, trying 5.8.0 next
I just tried the "uninstall updates" method. It only went back 1 version, and did not restore the wallpaper function.
They mustve removed it a few versions back.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
OK, now I am wondering WTF. 5.8.0 no go either and it was working on my phone just a few days ago.
I just got a 'certified like new' warranty replacement and am running GB where my old phone was still on FROYO. I am starting to suspect that may have something to do with this.
I did manage to restore my fascinate to state it was before warranty exchange, Blackhole 4.4, a Froyo rom. Goolge maps was 6.xxx and the wallpaper was woring. Am now back on GB rom and it is not on available list of love wallpapers...
i just don't get it.

New Market Music Section...Wont Work

Every time I try to download something it gives me an error saying it was unable to retrieve data from the database...or something of the sorts.
Anyone else having issues?
I take it you're in the US?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Yeah, US.
Tried clearing data, rebooting, etc.
I think it's because they're still rolling it out. I can't even see the music section yet. You can use the web market for now, it works perfectly

Mm, would make sense. Yeah, it loads but says it cannot retrieve the data from the server.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll try the web version.
Everything I'm reading is that v3.3.11 is the version with music, but I have that version on both my Nexus One and OG Galaxy Tab and music is still not showing. Will it just show up eventually?

For me, I was at the movies last night and during the previews I saw on Facebook that Android posted that Music was live on the market. I opened up the market and it made me accept terms again like I just flashed a new ROM and when it was finished loading, I had a music tab.
So as an experiment, I went into settings/applications/manage/all and uninstalled all updates to the market, then went and opened the market, it asked about terms, accepted, then it showed an older market(2.3.4), backed out, loaded market again and it was the new market (3.3.11) and it's still not showing music.
It may still take some time for it to roll out, so I'll just wait some more.
I received an email from google about the new store/music app. In the email it said that they are rolling everything out over the next few days. The new app is available, but the store is gonna be a few more days.
Both my N1 and my OG Galaxy Tab have since started showing music now.
I was trying to help my parents stock EVO 4G's show music though, but their phones are still on Market 2.3.4 and I can't get them to update.
It's working for me
I just cleared data on my market, and the music tile showed up. Downloaded Busta's free song with no problems. Good luck.......
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
T-Mobile did a red carpet event today to officially announce the Music section, so it may be up now. I haven't checked, but I'll do so now..
EDIT-
Nope, still no luck. Using MIUI ROM, if that matters.
On CM7 kang and had to clear market data and uninstall updates for it to start working.

Strange Gmail update?

Dear forum,
I'm having a strange issue with gmail and I haven't seen any other references on the forum.
About a week ago, Gmail auto-updated in the Play store, and since that time the icon changed to a "postage stamp" with a "G" on it. The application itself is now dark-themed in the conversation list, though the message text background is still white (the dark/light issue makes some of the text difficult to read).
This application is really broken now, and I don't see anyone else complaining about it, so I'm curious why this ended up on my tablet.
I've tried wiping the data and cache and reinstalling google apps -- the old Gmail is restored, but when I reboot the bizarro Gmail comes right back.
Has anyone experienced this? I'm worried about some malicious app update, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm rooted on stock with the latest updates.

I'm afraid I haven't heard of any issue like this.
If you're reinstalling google apps (I'm assuming via flashing through a recovery), are you sure you're using an official / trusted package from a trusted source?
If the G-apps package is from a malicious or untrusted source this may explain why you can't uninstall it correctly and it has that weird type of persistence.
You can always get a trusted version of the G-apps package from the Goo Manager app from the play store (The app is free and without ads!).
I hope this helps in some way. Sorry I can't offer a more direct answer

[GUIDE] Nexus 5 apps safe to remove

Hi there!
I've put together a spreadsheet of apps that are (or so far seem) safe to remove from the Nexus 5. Note that I am running 4.4 KitKat, which has been unlocked with TWRP and rooted. The spreadsheet comes from the combined efforts of hallstevenson's spreadsheet on the Galaxy S3 for Spring (which I adapted and updated for the Verizon version), and referencing MoJo's script for removing Nexus 5 bloatware. I used Titanium Backup to go through and type in the packages and APK names.
CLICK HERE FOR ACCESS TO THE SPREADSHEET [GOOGLE DOCS]
Click the "5.1" tab.
If you have questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, or want to tell me exactly where I'm wrong about something, please leave a comment here! If such a list already exists, I couldn't find it through searching. And if I'm in the wrong category, I apologize; seeing MoJo's script here led me to think this would be the appropriate place.
**UPDATE FOR LOLLIPOP 5.1**
Here are the apps I've personally removed, if anyone is interested (this list changes with each update):
Basic Daydreams

Updated for Lollipop!
I'm back with an update! You can use the same link above. Note that this time I've added a tab for Android 5.0 Lollipop. (There's also a tab for what I believe is 4.4.4, which I started and didn't finish... Sorry!) Again, I'm on a stock ROM from Google's firmware page, and I used Titanium Backup (v 6.2.0) to go through this list. I had a couple of app updates after flashing the new ROM, so the version numbers might not quite match up. As usual, let me know if there are any issues, or if you've figured out if an app can be removed that I've left blank. If you're going to be adventurous, it's best to freeze an app and test rather than delete it, and make a backup before you delete.
Enjoy!

Not sure. I'd think the Photos app would still work, but maybe not. I actually use Google+ on a constant basis so I haven't removed the app.
You deactivated the exchange services, so do you get any emails with auto synchronisation ? Or are the exchange services only for the E-Mail app, which isnt working on L anymore?

I removed the email exchange services because I do not use them. I strictly use the GMail app. I imagine they still work fine!
this is awesome
awesome ... phone is a little faster now .. still have the google apps on it .. as i use all of them
Bump for 5.0.1 update (see original post)
Hey, I am a tad bit confused here..
I currently have two Exchange Services.
1) com.google.android.gm.exchange
(ver. 6.5-1520254)
2) com.android.exchange
(ver. 4.4.4-6936)
I'm sure the second one is the one I can delete but was just unsure about the first one.

The first one is the one I have marked as safe to delete. I don't know what the second is, maybe something left over from KitKat? Try freezing them with TitaniumBackup and reboot, see if they give you any issues. If they don't, make backups and remove them.

Okay, I didn't think this would have much to do with it but I am using Slimkat 4.4.4, so I didn't think to look in the 5.0 tab. I shall see what happens when I freeze the other EServices.
Thanks for the reply.
Edit: Well, I have backed-up both Exchange Services and removed them both and nothing seems to have changed *Shrugs* Ahh well.

Well, generally speaking, you should be looking in the tab for your current Android version. (Or as close as your custom ROM gets.) The list is based on a fresh install of the ROM, so if your apps have updated since, they'll show different version numbers and possibly different locations, too. Something I didn't think to include in my post, sorry!

Well I flashed the ROM last week, so anything could have updated. Anyway, thanks for the help. I just wanted to have an opinion on the random system app first before I went ahead and removed it.

The first works with gmail exchange second is for email app exchange. Should be no issue deleting both. I use 1 and delete 2.
Do not remove g+ on lolipop if you want photos to work. They are linked

Software update today 12 feb

Had a software update today, seems to be mainly bug fixes but there is also an extra 5th yota panel available now and also a white theme for the panels.
I seem to have picked up a bug too, the yotapanel people widget has stopped working, the contact pictures are no longer displayed and when the icon is pressed a string of random numbers is dialed instead of the contacts telephone no.
Any one else finding this problem?
Maybe it's time for a factory reset, that EPD is a little flaky
Sent from my YD201 using XDA Free mobile app
I've also received the updates yesterday. Contacts widget works fine for me though one thing that i've noticed - once i've plugged the charger in, some default YotaPanel is displayed on the backscreen and i can't seem to change it.. waiting for the phone to fully charge, hope it will be ok after that.
Even after the update, the Contact panel still works on my Yotaphone 2.
I lost the root after the update, though, which is a pity...
Thanks for the comments on this, it seems to be just my device suffering this particular problem since the update, there are however reports of other problems with the EPD since the update tho.
I'm not sure what to do to fix it, I've tried removing the widget and reapplying it, clearing the data and cache of the yota app. Other than a factory resent im out off ideas.
Sent from my GT-N8010 using XDA Premium HD app
Updates to the Yota app, contact app and organiser app via the play store has resolved my issue with the miss dialing people widget. Plus you can now have more contacts by having more people panels on the EPD ( the same also applies to apps, you can now have more app shortcuts by adding more panels on the EPD
Good work Yota ?
