[Q] Tips on A500 playing HD Videos (ROMs) - Acer Iconia A500

Dear A500 Users,
i would like to use my A500 just to play videos ranging from normal to HD (720p is okay, not on 60fps anyways)
I have used some ROMs and i would like a tip on what's better for my purpose
The two best ones i tried so far are Civato's REFLEXX and Smaury's Lightspeed, both on 1.4GHZ kernel with BFQ and LULZACTIVE governor
RE_FLEXX gave me better quadrant scores, but Lightspeed has no additional stuff afaik..
What could you suggest me?
Thanks in Advance

[Q]CPU overclocking kernel

Hi there,
I noticed on Antutu.com website people submitting Vegan Tab benchmark results running their systems at 1400Mhz. Where do I find the kernel with such options? Currently am running CorvusVegaRom, and both SetCPU and Antutu is maxed at 1000Mhz.
Would like to squeeze extra juice from the tablet. Anyone knows howto?
Thanks.

kernel will be compiled over the weekend to include these Overclocking changes from the G-Tab.
Look out for a Bumble-bee (Apache14) Kernel over the weekend or early next week once he has merged the changes.
Cool. Thanks. It is good to know that Tegra 2 is overclockable. In future this extra speed will be usefull once someone and somehow will port the Honeycomb for us Vega/Viewpad tablet owners.

o wow good spot will have to give this one a try out, corvus was allready smooth as grease it, this should be good
Yeah my vega is overclocked to 1.4ghz using setcpu on corvus5. Its amazing and benchmarking it on smartbench shows that the vega beats the xoom which is at 1.5ghz!!!
official cm nightlies now have 1.4ghz overclocking, too. you dont need any setcpu.txt file and can change overclocking with cm-settings without any setcpu at all

Prime 1.6 + Netformer vs Revolver 1.1(2)

Has anyone got any opinions on performance with either firmware? In terms of how fast/well they perform. FC issues and battery life?
I am currently using Prime 1.6 (without Netformer). Revolver has OC from Netformer built in. I'm trying to figure out which has the best performance/battery. Prime 1.6 with Netformer or Revolver.
If you think Clemsyn is better you can also throw that into the mix. Maybe we should have a shootout using some benchmark apps
netformer at 1.4 is realy fasy
I've installed it just yesterday, and changed the wallpaper to a regular pic (not live), and i gotta tell you the thing is just flying!
i've set the cpu to 1.4 - i could go up to 1.6, but i guess that will have a huge impact on the battery and the temp as well...
Im runing revolver right now and i hinks its pretty good. i have only had my pad for 4 days but have tried out most of the roms and kernals already. best preformance and battery seems to be revolver 1.1.1 (1.1.2 was just a test to see if his OTA app worked) with the elite tegra 18 kernal. not sure if that will work on your i have been told it is unstable for most people who dont have an elite processor. i have model b70 so that might factor into what kernal is best for you

Don't tell me it's 10 times faster than an already overclocked TF in Vellamo. I've seen several reports from people with 1.4-1.6Ghz, and they all are in 1100-1300 range, getting 1195 myself @ 1.4.

minor nit pick: kernel

Revolver is really fast, I'm running at 1.5 GHz. I haven't tried out Prime 1.6 yet.
I'm on prime 1.6,i havent tried revolver or netformer,of course i am using nets kernel @ 140000GHz,runs real smooth, even with my live wallpaper, battery doesnt drain too fast.I like running the themes and most of them are only made for prime 1.6.

What is the fastest least buggy rom with best battery life and OCing

So many to choose from and i don't have any experience other then Virtuous Picasso 1.1.0. that is the only one i've flashed. Does it hurt your tabby installing new roms constantly over and over again. Just seems like something at some point would get corrupted or something. I don't know.....lol This is very new to me.
What rom is everyone using.
I was wondering the excact same thing, maybe everyone's waiting for an acer 3.2 update.I'm on virtuous picasso 1.1 also,I was hoping for a vp update as that rom seems pretty good so far.Anyone know when we'll see anything as good or are there better that you guys use like taboonay, etc? Thanks.
you will ALWAYS get different answers to this question. It all depends on how you use your tablet. Your best option is try them out and see for yourself. Load the ROM use it for a day try a kernel see what fits your needs, don't rely on other peoples answers.

Hey question for you since your using the same rom. Does your Tablet turn off at night by itself. I used my tablet all day and at night I charge it while i sleep. When i wake up in the middle of the night i unplug the tabby if the power button is white meaning peak charge and then go back to sleep. when i get up in the morning the tablet is turned completely off and the battery is around 90%.........i don't get it. does yours do this?
I'm on Taboonay and loving it...
Currently using Taboonay 3 and richardtrip's 3.3 kernel.
Loving the speed and stability. Good power usage despite being OC'd to 1.5ghz. Had to apply patches to get Netflix going and still having ALL cameras intact.
Needed alt wpa supplicant file to enable adhoc networking...
... But yeah. Good ROM. I'd highly recommend it.
Some people were having issurs with the install, but I followed the instructions CAREFULLY and had zero issues...
Good luck!

do you have links to the rom your using and then the kernel so i can check out the instructions and get the right one.

so how do you install a kernel? Do i go through the same process wipe all, flash taboonay 2.0 rom reboot into recovery and then just flash the new kernel the sameway i flashed the rom without the wipe and stuff?
I'm running Taboonay and richardtrips kernel but I found that when I intstalled the latest version youtube wouldn't work. So i reinsatlled the earlier version of the kernel and now youtube works fine. Bit starnge but a few others had the same problem. I'm also haveing problems with the keyboatrd on the site here. No matter which keyboa$d i use the back/delete button doesn't work hence all the typos here
Not sureif this is a kernel/rom/site issue?
Taboonay 2.0 using richardtrips 3.4 kernel (3.4 addressed h.264 playback and overclocking stability)
stock 3.1
Rooted via IconiaRoot - Richardtrip's kernel installed - max cpu set to 1504, min 256 - switch my Setcpu app between "ondemand" (when i have plenty of battery) and "conservative" (when my battery is low).
is taboonay built on original iconia stock or some other rom? or total original honeycomb (if there's a such a thing)

I would check the taboonay thread but afaik the a501 is the only one we have a 3.2 rom to work from. So if i remember correctly it is based off of a a501
I am running HV 1.1 with HV 3.4 kernel, OC'd to 1.4Ghz. I find this combo stable and fast. My quadrant score is 4124 and I have no WiFi or YouTube issues. YouTube would not work when I was running the HV 3.3 kernel with the HV 1.1. I wonder what quadrant scores other people are getting with their ROM/kernel combos?
I re-flashed with Taboonay v.2.0/Richardtrips v.3.3 Kernel and it fixed every problem i was having. Best ROM/kernel combo ever! Super smooth, zero lag and amazing battery life!. Overclocked to 1.4ghz and getting better gaming performance then i was before as well! Awesome!
My Quadrant Standard Score at 1.4ghz is ( 3952 ) but i'm a hell-of-a-lot cooler then you! LOL

I'm jealous. I keep getting random disconnects with all acer firmware 3.2 roms. I hope with the acer pushing out the new update today it'll fix that issue in the custom roms.

Youtube hd was choppy before, and if you did a lot of benchmarking it would throttle back the cpu. Both addressed in 3.4

[Q] Best SetCPU settings for Acer A500?

Anyone have any recommendations on how to setup SetCPU for optimal configuration on an Acer A500 tab? It's the full licensed version, and the tab is running Skrilax_CZ's v8 bootloader ROM'd with latest FlexReaper (if that matters...).
THX!

At the risk of repeating myself.... see here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723376
Posted an hour or so ago in the General Forum.
(you folks need to look a little bit)
And, "Optimal" is a personal choice between OC and battery life.
thx
Sorry... I didn't see that specific link on the site search, but I was asking more specifically about voltages and governor options.
E.g. Should I change my "boost factor"? "Max boost"?
I know there's tuts for SetCPU available, but I was asking more specifically about the A500.
Sorry for the noobiness?...
Thanks.

Not a problem. Here's some cliff notes on OC/UV
Rule #1. Not all Tegra2 processors are created equal. Some are more tolerant to OC than others. This is due to the manufacturing process. Example, I can run 1686 on mine, and remain relatively stable. Most are not so lucky. Depends on what manufacturing lot they were created.
Governors. This controls how the processor behaves. Generally, most use Interactive, On Demand, or Performance. Interactive gives the best battery life, and still a responsive tab. On Demand, is probably the most commonly used. Gives processor power when needed. Performance keeps the processor ramped up all the time. (uses more battery because of this). Then there is Lulz which is relatively new to the 500. This is like a combination of the prior. In theory, will give you the most bang, while still not killing your battery.
Schedulers. This is your IO. Currently for the 500, there are 2. Noop and BFQ. Noop comes stock. BFQ is by far a better IO scheduler.
As with SetCpu, I don't like it's new interface. I use SystemTunerPro. Nothing wrong with either though.
You have to decide what you use your tab for. If it's for normal use, I would leave it at interactive with BFQ. If you are playing games, I would run Lulz or Performance, and increase CPU to take advantage of the GPU overclock.
Max boost you probably won't need unless gaming or watching video.
I run mine at 1200mhz, -50UV across the board, lulz and BFQ with 1024.(system tuner pro)

tablet running slow. best rom for speed?

Hey hackers,
I need to pick a rom for my TF101. My tablet has been running a little slow and a little choppy, so I'm thinking it's the rom. I'm currently running cm10. I'm thinking Revolver or Revolution would be the best for performance and speed - would one of these be a good choice?

Well ive flashed them all lol and CM10 is by a long way the fastest (equal with JB AOSP but more stable) both Revolver and Revolution are about the same as far performance goes, I prefer Revolver for ICS roms but is still much less performance the cm10. Ive found CM10 to be a little choppy with the stock launcher, Apex is much better might be worth trying that before flashing another rom.
Thanks for the tip about the launcher and other roms. Tried apex - it was awful, actually I'll let you know what happens with some other roms.
Revolver ICS runs great but CM10 is improving everyday.

Which CM10 rom are you running? There's a few out now and not all run the same. If it's the RaymanFX CM10 then I'd be suprised you're having performance issues.
Speaking of which, did you overclock at all? A little boost to the CPU speed can make a world of difference. Depending on your tablet, however, you may experience some crashing if you push it too hard. 1.2 to 1.4 GHz seems to be the sweet spot for most people.
AnTuTu CPU Master (Free) is what I use. I've set it to 1600Mhz with smartassV2 scaling and the sio I/O scheduler. My tablet reacts to overclocking very well though so your mileage may vary.
